The human emotions are depicted so well. They talk a little about the human mind and feelings. Brought me to tears, but they’re so beautiful. Some are lighter, some a little more heavy. The journey to a beautiful romance isn’t easy. Life is complex, and it is bitter and sweet. By the way... the ranking doesn’t really matter. 

I wanted to rank this according to how much I cried, but sorry it doesn't seem to be working XD No worries, it isn't like some sort of dog blood drama. It's just...tragic but with a happy end. It has a lot of sweet, fluffy and funny moments too!!!! in fact, only certain part hurts. Some doesn't hurt as well! In fact,  it was so beautiful and sweet I cried  <<less

I used to read western novels mostly but after the hype of Mo Dao Zu Shi, I got attracted to Chinese BL novels. And recently I have fallen into the BL hole. So, I continuously read Asian BL novels and what I have seen is that many of the BL stories have the following characteristics:... more>>

1. Stories are repetitive in nature with one main character completely obsessed with the other main character. Also, most of them focus mainly on the lead characters. Most of the time, side characters are just there to be the lead characters' lackeys or face-slap recipients.

2. Even the writing style and plot are copy-paste from some older novels of the same genre. 

3. R*pe is highly romanticized especially on Asian BL novels.

4. Toxic relationship is depicted as romantic . 

5. And lets not forget the segregation of 'top' and 'bottom'. 

6. 'Tops' are aloof, cold, otherworldly handsome, possessive and sex-driven.

7. 'Bottoms' are feminine, meek and cute.

There are really only a few stories with proper world building, character development, healthy relationship, intricate and original plot, realistic characters, original writing style, etc.  These are what I personally think are the best Asian BL novels I have ever read: <<less

What constitutes a good story for me?

PLOT. It must not stray away from its intended plot. No unrelevant arcs just for the sake of DRAGGING the story. THERE MUST BE SUBSTANCE. 

As much as possible, NO RUSH ENDING. The conclusion is the most important. If the story ended with some questions unresolve, the story is a failure. Open endings are acceptable, since it is closest to reality you can get. 

CHARACTER GROWTH. I believe it's one of the essential part of the story. I can stomach s*upid and naive characters, ONLY, if they showed character development along the way. 

LOGIC. No one wants to proceed on reading if they couldn't understand nor make sense out of anything. I'm willing to make an exceptions for WORLD-BUILDING. But there's what you call an out-of-this-world logic and an out-of-this-world s*upidity. The former I can accept, the latter, thanks but no thanks.

ENJOYMENT FACTOR. A STORY MUST EVOKE EMOTIONS OUT OF ME. If I couldn't feel anything while reading, then the writer failed to connect to their readers. Even if the genre isn't my cup of tea, it should be able to convince me otherwise. That's what it means by a good writing.
