I often... more>> see BLs where the MC doesn't treat the ML as well as the ML treats them, creating a hierarchy in the relationship that you can sense. If you are someone who likes to read plot-heavy stories that only show small snippets of BL, I don't think this list is for you. However, I will put in a few plot-heavy ones that has equally heavy BL.  All recommendations made here will be a HE (Happy Ending), angst will be close to zero, if not none. MCs will have character, i respect that some readers might like glass vase MCs that are there to highlight the male lead, but the list here will be mostly made of MCs who have a goal, character, and moral compass that they will stay true to throughout the story. Stories will be compiled from different eras, from ancient Chinese to medieval, to relatable modern, to interstellar. MCs will be pretty because I'm a face-con, following up on this, I might have one or two recommendations where the ML falls in love at first sight with MC. But you can rest assured that MC will not drag his ML around and lead him on endlessly. Translation standards are guaranteed.  <<less

Some of these I read several times because even though I don't like tragic plots, sometimes I like a story with heartbreak... I removed the action and adventure titles and put them in my Action BL rec list instead.

Modern settings only. Includes shounen ai, yaoi, and BL with smut. Too many titles to sort in order of personal preference, so I sorted them alphabetically.

I tried my best to leave some trigger warnings on this list where I think some readers might find objectionable content (there seems to be more of that in dramatic and action oriented novels). I hope that people can take the genres labeled Adult and Mature as well as tags like R*pe, R*pist Becomes Lover, S*xual Abuse etc seriously. I think it's always a good idea for people to check tags and reviews of a novel before starting out, otherwise you can end up wasting time because halfway through (or even further on), you read something that is upsetting and then drop the novel. That's a habit I picked up after reading a ton of manga and webtoons. It's also very useful with novels! If you want to do that with Western novels, I would check out the website/app Goodreads (which also has Asian web novels, mangas and more listed there along with reader tags and reviews). <<less
