One of the best novels out there. Engaging episodic mysteries, a satisfying conclusion, and a hard-working and smart MC. 

One of the best. It does get repetitive after awhile, and somewhere in the middle, there's a loss of tension because the ML and MC are too overpowered. The ending was a bit unsatisfying, as it has the 'open' ending type I've never been fond of - however, criticism aside, the side characters are truly beautiful. The villain(s) are not your stereotypical '1D jealous step-sister, arrogant rich guy', and actually do their job well.  The mystery is well-worth the slog through 100+ chapters, and the novel really asks the most thought-provokings on what it means to want to live - and why do we choose to? ... more>>

The face-slapping is unsatisfying, as the enemies get off with a slap on the wrist compared to the atrocities they committed. The plot is not linear - one problem crops up and then another and another, and they don't get solved until much later. The ML and MC's relationship is highly unequal - the ML can and does still have concubines and multiple children from his wife and mistresses (and even impregnanted one while in his early stages of dating MC). The MC is constantly oppressed - despite all his admirable accomplishments, he never really gets his rewards. I felt like the MC could have been much happier with another person that wasn't the ML, and had a more equal and fulfilling relationship.

However, the MC has some serious character growth - to the point where I feel like the ML doesn't deserve the MC.  <<less
