An internet troll who wanted attention, the reader criticized his favorite web novel, saying: “The protagonist is dumb and the author is stupid.”

Author: “… Got it.”

Unfortunately for him, the author actually listened to his (troll) feedback. The formerly lighthearted tale of a cute harem master suddenly became super dark and edgy. The reader could only helplessly look on as the the protagonist was abused and betrayed, finally embarking on the road to becoming completely evil. Everything was a mess!

After that the reader transmigrated into a strange world. How come no matter how he looked at it, the person in front of him is the protagonist (evil undead version)? Just what is going on?!

Note: Du Zhe (读者 meaning Reader) and Du Ze (杜泽 the character’s name) sound almost the same

The art and description make this novel seem like casual and silly BL-- but it's actually really good. It has a full-fledged story, and the plot development and action take precedence over any fluff.

Du Ze is a black-powder fan -- who writes terrible reviews and hateful comments on his favorite author's writing in order to draw attention to it and increase the novel's popularity. One day, his trolling accidentally goes too far, and the offended author changes his normal "stallion" harem story into a depressing and dark tragedy in which... more>> the hero destroys the world. Before he reaches the end of the novel, the despairing Du Ze is transported into the world of the story and to the hero who has already turned "black."

The two main characters, the reader and protagonist, are well-written and believable (despite the ML's protagonist-halo and otherworldly good looks). Their personalities and relationship develop slowly and surely. The dynamic between the stone-faced silly fanboy, Du Ze, and too-beautiful-to-be-true yandere, Xiu, is great fun to read. I particularly like how the author handled Du Ze's slow change in perspective from an outside observer to actually caring about Xiu as a person.

The pacing of the story is also very good, so it's easy to read this story without getting bored. The translation quality is GREAT, with helpful notes, frequent updates, and no difficult Chinese vocabulary to memorize.

The BL is also good. ;)

The minor downsides to this novel are that:
1.) None of the other side characters have major roles or developed personalities. (But really, this novel is only about the two main characters being in their own little world, so it doesn't really bother me.)
2.) It's still a parody of a typical "stallion" novel (you know, the ones where the protagonist has a golden-finger/cheat, rare treasures, god pets, harem, level-defying abilities, etc), so you have to be ok with those sorts of scenarios constantly popping up.
3.) There is an non-consent R-rated scene after Ch.50 that may offend/trigger some people. (Other rotten fujoshi may enjoy it, though... Just thought I'd mention it just to be safe.)

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. If you are a fan of stories with fantasy, parody, and the relationship between a dense/cold main character and possessive male lead, you will probably like this. <<less

This story is amazing. The main character is relatable, funny and surprisingly sweet. Watching him warm the heart of "you know who" is such an uplifting experience. The story moves fast and has a nice mix of humor, sorrow, action, mystery, and of course romance. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this. BC Novels is so quick with translations. The writing is clear, plus the notes at the bottom are helpful. I also love all the drawings included in the text. Just go read it, you won't regret it.

This is a great love story! The main character (the Reader) is deaf which is unusual for Chinese novels. MC is a very funny person. In the modern world he is a student still living with his mother. He loves to read web novels but he has a bad habit of always trolling his favorite author for attention. This ends in tears (bad troll! Bad!) as the author actually listened to his troll feedback and made the novel (the reader's favorite one) turn from the story of a cheerful, moe... more>> super OP harem hero into a super dark and edgy tale of a villain who was hated and betrayed by everyone he knows.

The real story starts when the MC is transported into the world of the novel.

Crazy hi-jinks! Shenanigans!

Very slight spoilers here since these happen within the first 3 chapters:

The MC meets the hero/villain Xiu for the first time and says "meow~." MC french kisses a skeleton!

The tone of the story is humorous most of the time but there are times when it gets serious. I seriously cried and laughed many times while reading it.

The MC is one of the best I have read. He's smart, he knows what he wants, and goes for it. He's very brave and loyal!

The male lead is very possessive and appreciative of the MC. He has eight different forms that he can shapeshift into. Each form has a different type of power and his personality also changes when he shifts but he always remains protective and loving towards the MC.

Spoiler about the smut parts:

The male lead's favorite thing is to have s*xy time with the MC in all eight forms. LOL, he really likes to give MC a good workout in bed.

The smut is only around 5/95 chapters so it's not a lot but what is there is very memorable due to the male lead's many different forms. The best thing about it is that the romance greatly overshadows the smut. I mean, this is not a story where there's tons of smut in the first place and what smut it does contain is very touching because it is always in the context of their rapidly evolving relationship.

The ending is perfect. Absolutely perfect. I have zero complaints about it. It's one of the most satisfying endings of any BL novel I have ever read. <<less

Honestly, this is one of the best web novels I've ever read. Not only is the plot a unique twist on something we've seen time and time again, the author is unbelievably talented at showing the emotional growth/emotional comprehension of the characters. The main character is probably the most human MC I've come across in a light novel; his faults and thoughts would sometimes cause me to stop and think about how I feel/what I think when reading novels.

The romance is super well done. There's no immediate falling in love,... more>> no perfect love. The author just conveys the raw emotions so well you can't help but get sucked in; the possessiveness and insecurity of the ML have me switching from annoyance to pity, while the MC's denseness and attempts to hook the ML up with his harem while hugging his thighs take me from laughter to tears in a flash. Regardless of what happens though, we see that, despite the faults of the MC and ML, the only thing that will never change is how much they love each other.

Ugh I hope this author has more works because I'm such a fan of this one! <<less

Absolutely amazing. This is exactly what I look for in a novel. Not only did it have a complex and well thought out plot with great pacing, the character development was steady and believable. I loved that the plot actually ventured on a dark path and I enjoyed the grotesque descriptions. There was action. There was adventure. Most importantly, it was consistent. Sometimes I feel like halfway through BL novels (specifically), the author gives up on the plot so the main CP can get together. That doesn't happen in this... more>> story. Everything about it was intense, especially the romance. The attention to detail not only wraps everything up nicely, it weaves and threads the piece together.

The pacing was so smooth that while I was writing notes for this review, I had to stop and think, "Man, what really happened? I don't think much has changed since x happened besides y." However, I would then realize that while I was distracted by the building romance, there were other things going on, or while I was absorbed in the action scenes, the characters would break through to some important detail. I just didn't notice because everything just felt too natural.

The H scenes were written extremely well. Most authors either skim over the scene (damn those crabs and curtains!!), or write something really generic. However this author actually did their research into the anatomy of some of the forms and again, the attention to detail is amazing. Small, almost insignificant, interactions between the main CP will be brought up in a way that just really lets you feel the love, and it builds up into a mountain so sturdy, even the limits of space and time can't hold them back. I loved that this was a world made exclusively for the main CP even though it likes to throw trials and tribulations at them. Hell, even the title says so. When the world itself is rooting for you, you know it's gotta be good.

I love this novel! The writing style is very hilarious. The MC's monologues are laugh-inducing, blaming the Doujinshi (his life-long companion), the hearing aids (that always going on strike), the plotlines (that deviate from the original) and etc when the events that occur goes wrong (because he took over the harem members' role XP). I also love how the MC's expectation is so high for the protagonist but the protagonist just goes his own way without a care for the world. I have great expectation for this novel yay!

I... more>> want to thank the translator for translating this story! Recently, there are many BL being translated. It's truly a bless for us fujoshi haha. <<less

If you're looking for a BL novel that has a unique premise with a twist, good plot development, great humor and mutually exclusive loving couple... look no further. This is definitely a must read for all BL lovers out there. It has been so long since I ended a novel with a satisfied heart. It's amazingly good for a novel that only has 95 chapters! Best of all, it doesn't have pointless misunderstanding and dramas! There's too many moments that I love and nothing can justify the scene with... more>> my meager words... Go ahead and take the journey yourself to experience all these amazing feelings. You're gonna regret if you pass this gem up! <<less

Huhuhu even though this was a bit of a pain to read via MTL but when I finished it, I just wanted to cry QAQ

As the others have said, the ending was perfect. No loose ends, everything was properly explained. The plot was superb, there's lots of twist that will make you laugh and keep you hooked on the story.

If you haven't read this, you are missing out! Definitely give it a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. *-*

I like writing reviews for novels that really stand out to me. The reader (one of the main characters) is someone with a very special personality. He has a great deal of trouble expressing his emotions but he really loves (though not the right kind of love, yet) and idolizes the protagonist. The protagonist on the other hand is currently hating on the world because of the stupidity of the people he once considered friends and comrades. This story is funny, has great room for development, and keeps you hooked... more>> waiting for the next chapter. The translator is awesome too because they are updating basically daily and they are also including images to further give us an idea of what is happening in the story. Definitely recommend this story. <<less

I really like this story and I am definitely grateful to the translator for having so much dedication in translating this story. I mean, as much I can read a bit of Chinese, the translator's English translations had made it so much more easier to understand what was happening. Plus, BC Novels puts up great picture accompaniments to the chapters which makes this Novel all the more better to read.

To the translator, please keep up the good work and I do hope good fortune comes in your way since you're... more>> even willing to share to the English world this great story.

This is the first yaoi novel I've read. At first I was a bit hesitant to read it since I'm only half-fujoushi (haha XD) and I only read yaoi in manga, but booooy am I wrong! This is a must read!

So far no s*xy moment has appeared yet and all seems innocent, but don't let that fool you... the protagonist, Xue, thinks otherwise. I found this story after reading the other translation this translator did before dropping it for another translator! I was so happy that I found this story because it's really good! Even though it's just the beginning I can already see how great the plot is and it's not totally serious or total drama but actually has lots of comedy! I really love the MC and ML as well as how they both act towards each other so far! XD

I know it'll keep getting better as it goes on and... more>> I can't wait to read more chapters of this! Also the translator is awesome and actually spoils us with a half chapter everyday which in my opinion is very awesome!! I would definitely recommend this!!!! \ (≫w<) / <<less

Sooo I just happened to read this because one of the translators I followed translated this (BC Novels). Putting it aside that this one has a manhua (which is not translated but is worth to see), the novel itself is actually pretty good for me. This is one of the novels that has a relatable MC since he didn't actually gain an oh-so-OP characterization except for some things (*wink), you'll know once you've read it. I also enjoyed the 4th wall breaks between the author and the MC (it's like... more>> a transmigration-ception kind of thing wherein the reader as himself is transported to the novel world and the author somehow reacts on every situation our MC is in as well as the ML). The ML also has interesting background and I'm definitely looking forward to this and how he'll be with our MC. It's interesting and enjoyable. I think it's worth your time ;) <<less

Ch17.1 may be too early to judge the quality of this story, but here are my thoughts.

The Reader and the Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love has a gripping premise of a reader being sucked into the world of a web novel in order to change its story. It promises to be an epic love story between the reader who adores the 'cute/meng' protagonist, and the sullied, broken protagonist. The story revolves around the premise that the protagonist's fate of suffering was caused by the reader, Du Ze,... more>> trolling the author so much that the author decided 'Fine, if you think this story is so bad, I'll make it bad'. And so, the web novel which should have been about an all-powerful harem-getting protagonist instead ended up with the protagonist betrayed and crushed by all of his friends and lovers.

There are several points which led me to not enjoy this story:
1. The timeline. This may simply be my lack of reading comprehension, but... well, it's very confusing. How much of the story is already written? How far did the protagonist get in his quest to unlock the 8 races of blood in his body before awakening his undead Lich blood and being betrayed and blackened? If this was the most recent development in the story (as it seemed to be since Du Zhe had been trying to encourage the author to write more after the author had flipped on the story) then how the heck does Du Zhe know so much about the other elements of the story to the point of pretending to be a prophet? And if the undead Lich blood was one of the first ones to awaken then how was there so much happening before that point to warrant an entire book being published and doujinshi being made? I really don't understand this.

2. The main leads have no chemistry, and they themselves have no charm points. As of ch17.1 the story has already left its cardinal promise unfulfilled: I, the reader, have not fallen in love with the protagonist. Du Zhe started promisingly with the idea of a rotten-mouthed but sweet-hearted character that uses insults to attract the attention of his beloved (author), but come the actual plot events and he becomes a wooden block. Add to that, the protagonist has no personality. He has the generic Personality Switch Set that comes with a standard BL seme. Switch 1: He is cold and tortures others. Switch 2: He is extremely possessive and thinks his love interest is only his (to torture/kill/love?). These two characters don't talk to each other beyond extremely bland dialogue about information exchange. If you set two rocks next to each other in a garden, that's the kind of interaction these two characters have. Du Zhe has told us many many times that "the protagonist is so meng/cute!" "So meng!" Yet where do we see that in the first chapters? Never. Actually, only in the author's notes at the end. The little noncanon skits were the closest I got to liking the protagonist.

What could save this is if Du Zhe had any sort of attraction to the protagonist, but of course this has to be a "wolf chases the rabbit" scenario where the protagonist falls first, for whatever reason. While we see all of Du Zhe's inner ramblings and personality, all the protagonist sees is basically a robot that lets him torture it and protects him with its own body. Is Du Zhe even human? Why exactly does the protagonist come to love him? Only in the latest translated chapters do we see the revealings of vulnerability in Du Zhe that could potentially lead to romance, but the protagonist immediately leaps to a selfishly obsessive possession. The author has not laid any proper foundation for a believable romantic relationship at this point of time, and so I am greatly unsatisfied.

3. Story and plot pacing. I get the impression that this story is written on the fly without any planning, as it jumps from one event to the next while padded with Du Zhe's panicked inner reactions. We get little sense of location and setting, despite the extremely detailed backstory of the novel. Rather, the world and its obstacles act more like a glass dome backdrop around the two protagonists as they are inevitably meshed together as a couple due to the fact that this is a BL novel. Perhaps this will change when more characters are introduced and the protagonist is forced to confront his past.

Since this story continues on for many more chapters with good reviews I am hopeful that the writer becomes more experienced and can successfully tie together all of the disparate elements that they have left undeveloped. Unfortunately, I think that they started this story with fatal flaws regarding the two main characters' personality attributes. In my opinion, I think this story would have been more interesting if it had been about the Reader and the Author's love, as at least there we had seen some effort on Du Zhe's part to chase the author, and the author's response to Du Zhe. For this story to be saved and for me to consider that the reader and protagonist are in true love, the protagonist has to start earnestly caring for the reader as more than just "a thing that belongs to him".

In any case, I give it 3 stars because it has potential and is well-translated. Overall, the story has an interesting premise but lacking execution. <<less

This story is one of the best transmigration novels I've read so far. The main character is funny and his observations of his situation are more hilarious especially since he had such a stiff expression all the time. The plot is very interesting and the romance when it hits its peak is very satisfying.

What I love is how the author intersperses parts of the original novel 'Mixed Blood' as a reference to situations happening and we get to see the impact of the reader on the protagonist. Theres also the... more>> skits that appear at the end of most chapters that are absolute the hight of comedy and a must read.

So if you love adventure, romance, and transmigration read this novel! Especially since the amazing translator puts out chapters daily. <<less

Okay, I spent several nights binging the MTLed raws, so I definitely missed out on a few points. However, it was 100% worth the read for me. The story moves along at a decent clip, and isn't overly predicatble. The romance is pretty solid, too. There are only a few side characters, and they don't stick around for long (they do come back, however).

The fact that the main character (reader) has 0 battle prowess is pretty interesting. Despite this, he manages his way through various situations. Rather than saying that... more>> he relies on the protagonist, it seems that he is usually left alive? He does have an interesting ability, which both helps and harms.

Overall, if felt like the author had a schedule for the series. It wasn't too fast, and wasn't drawn out with tons of filler, either. I felt that the ending left some questions unanswered. However, that might just be things I missed because of the MTL. So, I look forward to the translation. <<less

This is very funny. I really enjoy reading this novel.

The story is about a reader who showed his love for a web novel in a wrong way by writing negative comments which unfortunately taken seriously by the author. The story which MC should be a straight stallion-type hero became bent into an angst, revenge-driven one. The reader became so sad, but since he loves the novel so much, he still buy it online. And this is when the real story start : the reader transported to the world inside the... more>> novel after reading a R18 doujinshi.

One of the best danmei/bl story I've ever read. And I've read a whole LOT. It's also extremely romantic and I just love the MC & ML.

The ML starts off as very cold and paranoid which is justified seeing as he's been betrayed a lot but when he falls in love with the MC he's very romantic. (Giving him a ring and vowing that he'll destroy whatever/whomever hurts the MC, even himself.) The MC is great too, he never annoyed me which is a first since usually a BL/heroine will usually have traits that can get me irritated. (Childishness and being dumb etc.) I'm kinda obsessed with this story.

Loveable MC definitely. There is manga/manhua? For this and from it I can see that MC somehow has expressionless face.

This is a hilarious action/adventure/fantasy/romance story where an Awkward Lead meets an Extra-Awkward Lead. Du Ze, the reader, is a main character I haven't come across in many novels before.

He began losing his hearing as he grew up and hated wearing hearing aides, so he pretended to hear and understand his classmates. When he started wearing them, he realized they had been making fun of him all this time. This turns him into an expressionless and aloof character, who usually keeps his mouth shut. His eyesight is also poor, but he manages that well with glasses.

Considering all of that and the fact that he has no combat ability, he really undervalues himself.

The novel's protagonist, Xiu, was a standard Gary Sue bishie until his undead nature was discovered, and his happy adventure story twisted into one more focused on betrayal and revenge. Since then, he became paranoid and distrustful, choosing to become a cold-hearted warrior to be feared rather than to be loved.

They are both quiet characters who hardly talk and rarely share their secrets or feelings, so the awkwardness overload of two stiff stoic characters is pretty funny. As Du Ze's actions completely alter the storyline of the plot, it's fun to watch him get caught off-guard as events change. As Xiu becomes interested in Du Ze, Du Ze only focuses on trying to build Xiu's harem like the original Xiu had and is completely oblivious to Xiu's feelings. The addition of other characters makes their interactions more refreshing.

One of the biggest things keeping me hooked is...

the mystery of how Du Ze was sent to that world in the first place. It looks like the God of Light and the Gnome God of Forging are both looking for him. Was it their doing, or did the writer actually take part? What do they want with him? Why do some of the other characters feel intimidated by the weakling Du Ze? How does the prophecy Du Ze saw play out? Did he really receive that doujinshi by accident, or did someone send it to him on purpose?

The daily updates and comedy have me looking forward to each new chapter after work.

The main weaknesses of this story are its rough pacing and minimal chemistry between characters. The pace is fast enough to even out the awkward passages of time, but they are still noticeable. The side-characters make Du Ze and Xiu more interesting, but I'm more interested in the developing yandere aspects of Xiu rather than the anticipated romance. <<less
