《 3.5/5 rating 》I read MDZS first and really loved it (will forever be my ult fave ln/manhua/drama!!), so i figured why not read the rest of the author's work. the summary hooked me in at first, and then i fell in love with the mc (ㆆᴗㆆ). however, i was really dissatisfied with the arc after the time skip :// i didnt quite enjoy it in my own opinion(!!). i didnt really like the ml, especially at the end of the novel. I guess i was still too enamoured with MDZS as i read this right after i finished MDZS, that i couldnt help but compare both quite a lot as i read this novel...... more>> the ending was eh :/ honestly don't know. I will probably re-read this as well once i have time!!

《 3.5/5 rating 》i actually enjoyed this story quite a lot. it's really rushed however -- it would have been better if it was a longer story as the mc didn't really get to expand his career in culinary. the author should have expanded more of the plot elements and world-building. i expected more of a culinary-driven storyline as it is literally in the title, but the mc didnt even get to indulge in this as the story ended in a rush :/ though the translation is amazing!... more>>

though, the food part was quite satisfying in a way that the mc's cooking process were written in detail everytime + the fact that images of the food were added, made me really hungry and sad that i couldnt eat them myself :( the mpreg part of the story was also really rushed and wasn't satisfactory. 

this really had the potential to be a great novel, sucks that it was short. <<less

update [06/29]: I've re-read this and i am not changing my rating. so many questionable things in this novel wtf. there are a few arcs that i really like, but most were honestly so weird and had so many red flags. Not really sure why this novel has such high ratings when it isn't really that good at all.  <<less

《 4/5 rating 》Loved the comedy, loved the banters between the mc and ml -- but the story becomes mildly interesting after a couple chapters. the ml is very devoted and sweet, and there were a couple elements that were entertaining. though, time to time, the story did bore me :/ there are ghosts but its not horror/thriller, and a lot of world-building for the ghosts, which i found boring sometimes. the title and summary doesnt really speak much about the actual story lol. the novel is very fluffy and no drama really but it does get bland, unfortunately (right around 50+). i still recommend it tho! great read nonetheless... more>>

《 3/5 rating 》tbh, i have mixed emotions with this novel. the ending was unsatisfactory, i was literally so confused when it ended so abruptly. all i could think about was "what the f*ck its done????". also, the last arc was not that good :/ it was eh at best and i really want to act as if it didnt exist at all. ... more>>

HOWEVER, for some reason, i actually enjoyed the rest of the novel (save for the ending and a couple of arcs including the last one....). I really loved Xiufan and Yan Lu (which are obv both the same ML), their arc and the re:arc were top notch imo. Xiufan was the best, i love him so much <3. The biggest pro in this is the main character, Shang Ke. He's actually so likeable and funny, and he's very omnipotent in this which i love the most. 

Nonetheless, there were quite some times where I really debated on whether i should drop or not, like when I was reading the last arc. It was so horrendous to me, the ML in that was so yikes (he was literally a full blown rapist. wtf. he even admitted it. yikes). There's quite a lot of dubcon as well (feels more like noncon tbh), which really f*cking s**ked considering this novel had a really good plot idea :/ There's a lot of things i want to say but i honestly can't even bring myself to say any more. The novel ended so abruptly it ruined the rest of the novel — and the last arc was shitty too. f*ck man :/ That's why im kinda confused on rating this novel 3-4 out of 5... there was a lot of good things, but there was also a lot of shitty things in this novel. kind of leaning towards 3 or 3.5 rating, or probably even lower than 3. 

overall, i honestly dont recommend reading this. some of the arcs are actually good, but some are so shitty. the ending is abrupt too and it doesnt even feel like the novel is finished at all, so i feel like i wasted all the hours i spent reading this book just for such a horrendous ending.  <<less
