Mixed feelings. Overall not bad, pretty funny and fluffy at times.

Maybe it's a cultural barrier but it does perpetuate some really bad (and incorrect) stereotypes:

  • for example, MC became gay because he was traumatized/assaulted by the opposite gender
In terms of the relationship, it felt that the MC had to compromise everything for the ML:

  • when they moved in together, the MC had to change literally everything to accomodate the ML's lifestyle
  • for example, he wasn't allowed to use his phone, play video games, or even relax after coming home from work, he was forced to go straight to sleep
  • left a bad taste in my mouth
  • MC literally had to sneak in phone time in the fcking bathroom <- this is funny but also disturbing, imagine being controlled to this extent???
  • furthermore, MC and ML did not communicate on MC's frustrations at all, MC just gave into everything
  • ML didn't have to do sh*t or even compromise a tiny bit on anything

I've known people who've tried changing themselves for their SO and became ridiculously happy/relieved after breakup when they realized how stifled and uncomfortable they had been. DRASTIC CHANGES do not last in the long term and does not perpetuate a healthy and happy relationship.

Finally, the one plus:

  • "s*xual apathy" (which should have been translated into "asexual/ace") was not trampled on. The author didn't have the ML try to change the MC through therapy or something, thankfully.
Overall mixed bag. Translation was pretty good otherwise.

That single 1 star review is a grave injustice to this novel imo. It's well written, well translated, and it covers some content and topics that doesn't often appear in the general BL you can find. The fact that the MC affiliates with somewhere on the ace spectrum gratified me too, as the author's portrayal was very well done.

There's an air of maturity in the clear-headed views expressed in this novel, but at the same time, our MC adds a sense of youthfulness to it too.

You can tell the author... more>> did a lot research or already had a good understanding of topics that come up such as chinese medicine. (Either that or she was able to write it in such a way that there's no suspense of disbelief required from general readers.) I'm not saying there's a lot of terminology along those lines, but there's more than enough to add dimension and generate interest in the ML, and far from having so much that the reader would have their eyes glaze over.

The relationship. Idk what to say other than it's soothing to my heart. I love these two and how they progressed as they spent more time together. They're both true to themselves and each other. In the end, I find it an extremely satisfying relationship. <<less

I really enjoyed this sweet short story. It has a mature and natural telling of what real relationships consist of. I know some reviews say that the ML is controlling or MC changed for his partner and ML did nothing but I have to disgree.

The POV is from the MC and it is his natration and outlook on their relationship. He talks about the choices he makes to build a life with his partner. ML lives a very simple but structured lifestyle and he admits that he thought the MC... more>> would grow tire of him and leave him eventually. And for some people that would be a reason to call off. However, this shows he also has insecurities abiut their relationship but we dont get his view point and only know a little about him from the MC and his parents.

Another example peoe gave was about the cell phone. However, MC admitted it himself that he was addicted to it. And the fact that the ML wanted him to sleep earlier instead of keeping himself up late at night to browse the web is him keeping his promise to the MC's mom to take care of him. Plus he is a doctor and wanting to help people live a healthier life is a given. Like dating a nutritionist and having to eat better. Theres no way around that.

Also, you cant blame the ML for the MC's lack of communication about his frustration. I do believe that this is a weakness in their relationship but thats also what makes the story relatable. We all have things we want to complain about but sometimes we just avoid it and try to fix it from our end.

Give the story a try if you are looking for something light and humorous. The MC is cute and likeable with funny daydreams!! The translator did an excellent job!! <<less

The translation is good, but honestly I couldn't read more than one chapter of this because of all the harmful gay stereotypes it incorporates. Perhaps it gets better, but I can't get past

This is a very short and cute story!

Ignoring all the background trauma, the interactions between the MC and ML are absolutely adorable!

The relationship between the MC and ML is healthy, funny, and sweet.

This is cute to you all? I literally got so upset reading this.

MC have to cater everything according to ML. Do you want this kind of relationship? I dont understand which part is cute. I wait for cute part but nah

ML doesnt have to change his lifestyle even a bit, MC tried so hard to follow his “old and good” lifestyle. Is this the relationship that you glorified? ML didnt even try to ask his hobby at all, didn't try to understand MC, didnt communicate, didnt say sorry, he expect MC to follow his words. I cant stay in relationship like that. Its exhausting <<less

I don't know who was the one who give this one star only because this story deserve a full five star or 4.5 at the very least. Very good characters growth even with only 11 chapters and the plot is very engaging. The whole story has comedic moments which really entertains and you should be able to finish this in an hour and will feel very satisfied with it. 100% recommended.

It's such a cute story I don't know why the rating is so bad. The ML is so gentle and cute reminds me of Lan Zhan.

The story is a nice slice of life, their relationship progresses step by step, their are certian complications but it gets resolved without evolving into a big issue so no dog blood drama here

Not 5 star I misclick it supposed to be 4 star. But anyway I finished reading it. At first I thought of not reading it purely because one comment mention how controlling ML is but I still in the end give it a go because I am bored and this story is short enough.

I will have to say I have different opinions on the controlling part. ML only ban MC from using phone during dinner and before sleep which makes lots of sense because its kinda rude using your phone... more>> while having dinner with another person and if you use your phone before bed you have more difficult times falling asleep because of blue light and also MC himself said he has serious phone addiction and he keeps forgetting times while playing phone which result him to have bad sleep schedule. Other than that 2 specific time MC is allowed to use his phone as much as he wants. I think there also misunderstanding with one of reviewer saying that MC need to "sneak phone time to bathroom". Its not that MC unable to use his phone in front of ML thus need to use his phone secretly in bathroom but instead its MC bring his phone to the bathroom and keep playing the phone while sitting the closet despite MC already finished his bathroom activity

so ML just remind MC not to stay at the bathroom too long since it may lead to disease. So to simply, MC can still continue to play his phone, just do it outside of the bathroom. It also never mention ML force MC to join his old man lifestyle activities it was MC own decision to try merge his lifestyle/ schedule with ML. Its like you have a partner that regularly go to the gym and because you like your partner enough you want to spend time with him thus dragging your ass to the gym with him even tho you hate exercising so much.

also I wouldnt say wake up early and sleep early, less eating junk food is controlling I mean MC is a doctor he would want his partner to live healthy no?

also since first chapter ML already knew how bad MC sleep schedule is and never bother him about it. Just simple reminder here and there. ML only start giving this phone rules after MC's mom told ML to help MC live healthier live and MC himself telling ML to help him control his sleep schedule

I also read the chinese version of the sentence "it seemed like I didn't even have the time to relax before I was already supposed to go to bed" and I think what the author mean is "it almost feels like" aka MC feel like the time to play phone/games is not enough before its his sleep time (probably because the case here is he got home late after work so of course his time to play phone is shorter) and not MC didnt have anytime to enjoy modern gadget at all and is directly force to go to sleep.

Also I think its not just MC catering to ML lifestyle, there are hints thta ML also very accepting of MC lifestyle in his life.

I mean when MC ask him to watch film together he agree despite he is doing his reading or when MC keep walking barefeet in the house he didnt get mad at MC he just ask MC why he didnt wear slipper and never force MC to wear one

. It probably because we are reading this story from MC POV so stuff like that isn't explicitly mention. Also ML is very doting and listen well to MC. As long as it not related to unhealthy lifestyle ML follow what MC want very well.

I would say give this story a go. Its just ML being old man and live healthy lifestyle that MC isn't used to. Not to the extend of ML micromanaging MC life. <<less

quite cute and heart warming. Plus its very funny. Even though it's a short story, I think its quite complete. The MC is very charming person tbh. Then the ML is those mature and serious type. But also cute at times. The only part where I'm not so pleased with the ML is the chapter with the valentines day scene. I felt so bad for the MC.-.

Very cute and heartwarming.

While reading this short story I was smiling almost the whole time. I can admit that there are some little flaws in this story, but it is overall a really nice read.

I would like to say something though. It's kinda spoilery, but tbh this story isn't the kind that would be ruined by spoilers. It the whole journey that is the best part of this story. Well anyways:

One thing that really didn't flow right to me is the ML personally. Dont get me wrong, I do really like him, but he is really demanding. I could understand you trying to help your lover develop better habits, but he is really strict. The title of this novel suggest that the MCs influence would rub off on the ML. (Which it somewhat did), but it's mostly the ML influencing the MC to change. By no means am I saying the he completely change the MC, but it did get a little oppressive. (Also them "changing" for each other is very minor and the story isn't really about that at all l, it just happens.)

Also I feel that this story would be really interested to read from the ML perspective as he comes off as cold sometimes, but becomes very sweet and kinda desperate at times. He is very interesting.

To the first person who rated this and gave 1... How hateful! I almost skipped reading a good novel ONCE again!!!

Ugh. Really. I made an account just to rate this one. Although it was really not my cup of tea, the way the shou stand up for the gong was really sweet! I enjoyed reading every bits of it.

P.S. The "teaching to use emoji" was not the focus of the story tho. It was rarely mentioned.

The story is simple and no-nonsense drama is involved!! The shou is cute and simple while the gong is upright and a bit traditional. To say the gong is cold character, he is not cold but just not someone who is talkative.

I like the shou way of shameless cause he's not really annoying and coquettish. As this story is from his POV, his monologue is really funny. This story is laid-back and suitable for those who just want a light reading and some laughs.

Their interactions not rushed and weel placed... more>> but there still some confusion cause no further explanation provided due to nature of short stories.

To sum up, great story to relax and read as past time. <<less
