The 80s Chronicle: Addiction To the Army’s Young Wife

3 - This novel follows Xu Ning and Xie Zheng and their friends over a period of about 35 years. It starts with MC and ML being reborn. MC is 13 and ML about 16 when they are reborn. In her previous life her parents died several months after her rebirth. Her mother came from a wealthy family. Her parents didn't agree with her marrying MC's father and wanter her to divorce him and marry a wealthy man from their town. She died in her parents home refusing to divorce and marry that man. Her father rushed to her parents home after he heard about that and died in an accident on his way there. In her previous life MC didn't learn well and liked money. She became pregnant with an educated youth who made her lose her baby after which she couldn't get pregnant anymore. She stole her grandmother's money and left town. She stayed poor and alone all her life and always had a bad health after that. She died at about 48. 

Her grandmother came from a landlord's family. Her elder twinbrothers got kidnapped and when the whole country was in turmoil her entire family was destroyed. She married a farmer in the local village and had a very difficult life. Her mother-in-law treated her very harshly. 2 of her sons died in the army. Her eldest daughter starved to death because her mother-in-law didn't like daughters and wouldn't let the girls eat enough. When her mother and father-in-law died, her sister-in-law took all the furniture and food and money in the house, leaving her with nothing. She thought of committing su*cide with her 2 remaining children (a daughter and a son), but got some help from Xie Zheng's grandparents and survived that way. Xu Ning's father became an official and her aunt married a farmer in a neighbouring town.

In his previous life Xie Zheng got married to the daughter of a family friend and never had children. He became a general in the army. His parents were influential people who died when he was young. He is the only remaining descendant of the influential Xie family. His wife only thought about a career and when she wanted children she found out she couldn't because of cancer and died shortly after. He stayed alone afterwards. After he heard about MC's death (they grew up as neighbours and he always liked her) he fell asleep and was reborn.

After her rebirth Xu Ning finds out she has a magical space. It has a spring with water that has a lot of health benefits and she can grow plants in there that also have a lot of health benefits and taste better than other grown foods. At the start she has about 1 acre. She decides she wants to change her life and starts to study. She was almost illiterate in her previous life. Xie Zheng notices right away she must have been reborn as well, but he only tells her about his rebirth a few years later. He offers to help her study and gives her lessons every evening for a few years. She slowly starts to catch up and after a few years becomes the best of her school. She has to work had to get there. The time in her space moves much slower than the time outside, so she makes good use of that. She studies decades in her space to catch up. So it doesn't come easy for her.

After half a year her mother's family calls her like in her previous life under the pretense her grandfather is ill. Xu Ning immediately states she will go along to her mother's family and her father decides to go as well. Like before the Qin family want her mother to divorce her father. The only one who treats them well is Qin Zhao, a nephew of her mother. He is very fond of his aunt. His sister Qin Xiang embarasses Xu Ning at a party by letting her friends destroy her dress. The family decide to return to their village afterwards. Xie Zheng interferes without their knowledge to let them return safely.

When they return her mother finds out she is pregnant. 9 months later she has a son, Xu Rui.

Xu Ning decides to tell her parents and grandmother about her magical space. They decide to starts a can factory and can fruits grown in Xu Ning's space and sell these. Her mother, who comes from a merchant family becomes the owner and director. Since her fruits taste better than other's this becomes a quick success. However because of limited space Xu Ning has, they have a limit of how much they can make. 

Xu Ning starts learning medicine from grandpa Yao in their village. Grandpa Yao's family where imperial doctor's. He is the only one left in his family. His only son left after a quarrel and never came back. He likez Xu Ning's grandmother and they get married a few years later.

Xu Ning's grades are slowly improving and she is accepted at highschool. A teacher there doesn't like her, though she is one of the best students and at one time punishes her by whipping and beating her. The doctor's think she will have scars remaining on her body because of that. Her family calls the police, but the teacher's husband is pretty influential and stops the investigations. Xie Zheng interferes again and resumes the investigation. It turns out this teacher is also responsible for the su*cide of another student a few years ago, who was also quite a good student and has caused several girls to stop their studies. She is jealous of good looking girls because one is responsible for the death of her son. She is arrested and sent to jail. Xu Ning can heal her wounds with the water from her space.

Xie Zheng confesses to Xu Ning, and after some reluctance agrees to become his girlfriend. She thought he had an ideal marriage in his previous life and felt ashamed of herself in her previous life, so she hesitated to agree because of that. 

A few years later Xu Ning is accepted at the best university in the capital as the student with the highest grade in the country. Xie Zheng has gone to a military university like in his previous life to become a soldier. Xu Ning becomes good friends with her 3 dorm roommates. The family buys a courtyard in the capital that original belonged to grandpa Yao's family. She knows it will become very valuable in the future.

Her mother starts a real estate company, with the money earned from the can factory and 10 million Xie Zheng lends to her. Xu Ning advices her in what land to buy at the start with her (and Xie Zheng's) knowledge of the future. Within a few years she earns a lot of money with the land she bought. Her father still holds his job in the province and does his best to get promoted an join them later on.

Xu Ning starts studying medicine with the intention to starts a restaurant with medicinal food. After a few years she decides to study at Harvard. She completes a 5 year course in 3 years, never coming home during that time. She also becomes a surgeon, doing hundreds of surgeries in this time.

Xu Ning's father has lived separate from his family several years, and is finally promoted to a job in the capital, so their family can be reunited. Later he becomes the minister of finance and stays in this function for many years.

When she gets home, Xu Ning and Xie Zheng get married. They get a son Xie Yang a few years later. Xu Ning starts her own company. Her mother's company has already grown quite large and is well-known. She intends to let her brother Xu Rui inherit the company later on. She starts with selling a moisurizer for the face. She uses alooe vera grown in her space to create it. It has incredible effects of rejuvenating the face and moisturizing it. It becomes a huge success. After that she starts growing grapes and makes red and white wine with it. The red wine has to sit for a few years, but when they finally sell it, it becomes an immediate success. It is right away known as the best red wine in the world. Her tea is also known as the very best and most expensive tea. Xu Ning starts selling other products in her cosmetics company, like eye cream, ginseng water, scar removal cream and her company becomes huge and a success all over the world. She also invests in an entertainment company owned by her neighbours (she knows it will become very succesful).

She gets pregnant again and this time gives birth to a son and a daughter. They can all learn very well and are very good looking. She decides to build a school that not only teaches knowledge, but also morals, etc. She intents to also get teacher from abroad and only hire great teachers. This will become a school for the wealthy, where students can also stay in dorms to live. Her children will also go to this school when they are old enough.

After that Xu Ning buys a huge plot of land and builds a film studio with all kinds of well known buildings from Chinese history that can be used in films.

Her cousin Qin Zhao has visited her family regularly after Xu Ning and her parents visited and has disliked his family very much after what happened. He starts his own company and this company also becomes very succesful. In her precious life he became the wealthiest person of China with his company. He gives his family an allowance, but does not let them interfere in his company. They visit each other regularly and he only likes her and her mother in the family. He even dislikes his sister Qin Xiang. Qin Xiang is quite spoiled and spends all the money her brothed gives her. She gets married, but is discontent in her marriage. She is set up by a "friend" and is caught cheating. She divorces her husband. Qin Zhao gives her a house in France and sends her abroad. After a while she gets bored there and returns to China, selling the house in France way under value. She gets an affair with a wealthy man, who breaks up with her after a while. Their grandparents die within a few years of each other. Their parents die at the same day in separate places. Qin Zhao had sent his mother to a mental hospital after she tried to kill his father and she commits suice shortly after his father dies of old age / illness.

Qin Xiang moves into a house in Hongkong Qin Zhao buys for her and lives on a montly allowance. She gets breast cancer and starts to change. A few years later she meets a movie start who lives across from her and they fall in love.

The novel follows them with MC's children growing up and ends when she is about 50. Their companies are hugely succesful. MC's space has grown very large in these years, but she doesn't know why it grows (seems to me like it grows when humanity benefits, but who knows). At a certain point Xie Zheng can also access her space. MC's largest companies are based on the products she grows in space. It is unknown what will happen after she dies. Xie Yang joins the army like his father. His father became the youngest general in the country. Her daughter starts to study physics like Xie Zheng's parents who died young and were genius physicists. Xie Yang gets a girlfriend. Xu Rui marries an English girl of novle descendance and gets a son. Grandpa Zhao meets his grandson. His son died leaving behind letters for his father and grandson found those and looks up grandpa Zhao. He and his wife are teachers at the university.

The descendants of grandma's brother also find the Xu family. Her brothers were kidnapped and forced to work in a mine. 1 brother died shortly after. The other brother managed to escape, but couldn't return because of wars in the country. He got married and had children. His last wish was to find his family. His granddaughter found the Xu family. The granddaughter and a few of the family are quite allright, but there are also several of them who want to profit of them. There is little contact with them later on. They only contact the granddaughter who found them on a regular basis.

This is a slice of life novel. MC and ML don't face serious problems in their lives after rebirth. Everything gets solved very quickly. Patriarchy, kidnapping, forced begging, divorce, etc, are used, but MC does not come across these herself, but through people she meets. The problem of what will happen to MC's company after she dies is not solved. It is discussed once and they say perhaps one of their children will inherit their space, but we don't know what will happen. The grandparents of both MC and ML are still very active when they are over 100 years old and travel the world with MC's parents who resigned from their jobs. They go skydiving, skiiing, diving, etc. Everyone in the family (even their dogs) stay healthy and younger than their age because of MC's food.

Lots of cooking. Xu Ning is a great cook, Xie Zheng also often cooks and Xu Rui is also cooking quite often for his friends and wife, though he is not as good as Xu Ning. Both like roleplaying with each other.

Xu Ning is called every now and then to do difficult surgeries. She does about 2 a month I think. Not much attention on this in the novel.
