After dying alone in a mental institution, Fang Junrong discovered that she was the evil mother-in-law in a prominent family doting novel. Her daughter-in-law was the female lead who was loved by all.

In the novel, the female lead was kind and nice, and the male lead loved her so much that he’d die for her in a heartbeat.

Her future father-in-law doted on her and treated her better than his own daughter.

Fang Junrong, the evil mother-in-law, was the only one who didn’t care for her. She had gotten the evil character’s script and wanted to set the female lead up every chance that she got and finally landed herself in the mental institution.

After she was rebirthed and facing her son who wanted her blessings, Fang Junrong tore up the script. Whoever wanted the role of the evil mother-in-law could have it! She was going to get a divorce and take half of the money, then she’d figure out where she wanted to go from there alongside her daughter!

I wouldn't classify this as romance so much as a story about a mature woman throwing out some tr*sh and slapping anyone who wants to throw said tr*sh back into her home. Divorce isn't an end but a rebirth.

You don't see her struggle in this story, just give out slap after slap to anyone who dares hurt her or her daughters. Men? Not needed. Although there is a ML he's an assistant and not the power... more>> player in this novel. She's the one with the golden finger of a bracelet this time around and as the true owner her glory is greater than the so-called heroine in the previous life.

In fact, it's not until the last 10 chapters he even shares with her he's interested in her and it's at the very end (136) she seems to accept being bf/gf and not just ambiguously good to each other. So while this is a mature woman, we, unfortunately, don't get the mature scenes. Their age difference of 12 years is addressed and thrown away, likely because due to her space/absorbed aura causing her to look more like her daughter's sister than a mother.

There's a lot of intrigue and family drama thrown in here (which the FL gets involved in because these families are interested in her and had a hand in her previous life's tragedy). Speaking of the core unit of the FL's family, her and her 2 daughters, they only get better and this drama doesn't touch them. After all, there's a mama tiger watching.

In the end, all the antagonists are slapped, hard, and the FL isn't a forgiving Madona. She says she isn't going to be soft to her BBQ pork son and she maintains this attitude throughout. People forget the whole saying is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Blood ties don't mean sh*t if those ties lead to ab*se and devastation.

This is great if you want to watch a woman come into her own power and rebuild after discovering the man she married is tr*sh. If you're looking for romance I would look elsewhere as family love is the cornerstone of this story, not romantic.

I think we'll get romance in the extras only, I just haven't been able to get ahold of them yet.

Spoiler

It should be noted that this novel involves multiple metaphysical moments, as the ML is also rebirthed and at the end a book transmigrator pops up out of the blue. Apparently, it was a book within a book. I wonder if the author was learning about frame stories in school and wanted to incorporate the concept? Lol

The description is a little misleading. Our characters embody the typical roles in one of these white lotus novels. So far there hasn't been any transmigration into a novel. These events played out to one of our characters and time travel happened. Only our narrative and pov is the "Evil Mother in Law"'s. We find that Fang JunRong has returned to 8 years ago and won't be following the script of her old life. She' s got a mystery on her hands as she needs to find ways to counter... more>> the gas-lighting and to save her own daughter. Fang JunRong will be our heroine now. I typically like these revenge or time travel plot devices and it's been very compelling, 5 chapters in. Give this story a try. <<less

Okay so I read the first couple of chapters from FuyuNeko and I was hooked on the book so I MTL-ed (that explains my chapter threshold.) Also if you guys want to MTL it was really easy to understand it.

Anyway this premise is one of rebirth, in both name and the spirit of our MC. We go with her through a journey of discovering why she was left in such a sorry state in her last life along with her comeback.

I really enioy this novel since it doesn't waste any... more>> time with the scum in her life. It's pretty fast-paced and seeing the hidden intricacies with rich people is really fun to see.

I say to give this a shot for some mind-numbing entertainment. As for the romance, at the fifty chapter mark where I am I do believe we are introduced to the ML and he isn't an overbearing president type (thank god, well at least I think so.) The MC is more than capable enough to turn her life around ;). <<less

There is no romance so far, unless one counts the scum husband derailing, or the white-lotus collecting various spare-tires along with MC's tr*sh son...

Initially, it was interesting as MC takes revenge on her ex-husband and cleans up that s*upid tr*sh of a son, starts up a huge business, living a queen like life. But then, it started getting very repetitive, MC's one-man show with barely any interactions with other characters, business related inconsistencies, too many descriptions of the products and people's comments etc. made me lose interest...

PS: 41 translated chaps... more>> = 15 raw chapters <<less

Ran through the entire novel (not mtl) in a couple of days. I would recommend changing the tags. There are hints of romance, but I feel like one chapter of the extras has more romance than the entirety of the of the novel.

In general, the novel is really good. There is a lot of face slapping, but not to the point where the Villains revive again and again.

Rather than romance, it's more about how a woman can stand on her own, even without a man. The story focuses on the... more>> MC making her business flourish and doting on her daughters.

It's really well written, just exactly the right amount of plot twists, and the MC has really strong beliefs and morals. She doesn't feel sorry for her son after he kinda betrayed her and she also dislikes the girl that her son fell in love with, but at the same time she would never get revenge (though revenge is also nice, in its own way).

The MC is a bit OP, but she's the comfortable kind of OP to read (she's only like that cause she has cheats and there are also things she doesn't know. A part of why she's OP is also her personality being calm and rational, which is the biggest reason why I like this novel - if she had a bad personality the novel would have probably ended right from the first chapter).

So yeah. Don't read this for the romance. You'll only get a little dog food. But the plot is smooth and nice. It's also interesting to read, but that also depends on the reader, I guess. Sorry for the bad English. <<less

I finished reading the story in Chinese, and after reading it I really wanna question novel update's audacity in labelling it a romance novel. If it is a romance novel, it's definitely not a traditional romance novel. The story goes into depth on the author's views on love and romance, but a lot of it is satirizing both illogical blind love and loveless relationships maintained for the sake of saving face (and because certain women believe they are worth less without a man). The main character spends more time shaking... more>> off her scumbag of an ex-husband than she does pursuing new love.

Spoiler

To the very end, she does not pursue new love, but rather there is someone who is pursuing her. The novel leaves off on the note that they will eventually be together, but as readers we don't see that, which is why I wish the author wrote an epilogue but oh well

[collapse]

If you are reading this expecting a heated romance where the male lead is deeply involved in the female lead's life and the plot in general, then I think you'd be very disappointed.

Spoiler

The male lead doesn't appear until halfway through, and its not even clear that he's the male lead until around chapter 100 (untranslated, so about 300 translated chapters) He's not very involved in the plot and its normal not to see him to 10 chapters straight.

[collapse]

That being said, I throughly enjoyed this novel and think it is definitely worth reading, especially for people who like seeing green tea b*tches, white lotuses, and scum men get face slapped. Another reviewer said that the revenge in this novel is "success is the best revenge, let karma do its work" and I have to 100% agree with that statement. Everything our FL does is within the law, she doesn't let herself get stepped on, but she's also not going to waste her time on people who don't deserve her attention.

What makes this novel stand out to me is the maturity and level-headedness of the FL and the authors satirical commentary on various subjects, from irrational love to overprotective parenting to transmigrators. The author definitely has a lot of thoughts on selfish people who completely disregard the lives of others while believing they are most righteous.

Highly recommend! <<less

I don't really understand why this novel is so high-rated.

The first thing that really made me disappointed is the description and positioning of the daughter and son of MC. Really it's hilarious how plain they are. The daughter is the best and the son is the worst. And that's all. Not many descriptions of the mother's feels and regrets about her children.

Then, in my opinion, there is lacking logical reasoning of why every character behaves in the way they behave. Son and father betrayed mother and daughter. Why they did... more>> this? Did they really believe that MC is gone mad? Why they didn't help her daughter? And of course the MC and her actions. Do you believe that wronged woman didn't recall every hurting moment? Do you believe that a mother didn't try to understand her son's action and wash him in her eyes?

The third thing is that magical staff. I am fond of novels with hidden dimensions and cultivation, yet this time it is out of place. I think would be better if the jade bracelet was the usual thing and didn't produce that magical pills. Then it would be a simple story of daughter-in-law fancied the MC's bracelet and wanted to obtain. And not like she had a dream about a hidden space. What the heck with it? What the reason for her to have this type of dream?

The fourth reason is the main villainess. Again, I like smart characters and she is dumb, childlike, and naive. And this because of the scheme of this daughter-in-law, the MC ended so awful? Where these interesting machinations?

So far, it's 1 of 5. <<less

I really like it. The female lead is the only lead. She doesn’t need any man to come and save her. She’s cool, calm and level headed. She doesn’t waver once she set her heart to it. Her s*upid son is so s*upid, I’m glad the MC didn’t change her mind and at all and completely dropped his ass. Love this book. If you want a novel with satisfying face slapping, this ones for you.

Loving this so far! MC is a smart, successful woman (high net worth, properties, clout) who - along with her bio daughter - got screwed over royally in her last life by her tr*shy, two-faced, double-standard-having, money siphoning, sexist sh*t husband n scum son. Just reading about the crap that happened in the service of the white lotus Original FL makes you wanna AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH.

Garbage people.

MC is reborn 8 years in the past, and wastes no time getting sh*t ready for a face-slapping of epic proportions, while also cleverly exposing the... more>> villains’ hypocrisy/lies/double standards :D

SO excited for this story!!! GOTTA SLAP ‘EM AAAAAALLLLLL muahahhahahah <<less

I loved You-are-a-putz's review, and it inspired me to write my own since I feel like some reviews aren't doing the novel justice.

First: This is a novel following a forty-year-old woman through her journey to success after her rebirth. It's a different view on rebirth novels since it isn't the same when the protagonist is a woman with two adult children.

Second: Don't be swayed by the bad reviews and give the novel a try! Our protagonist is an absolute girl boss, and it's super satisfying to read. Faceslapping comes aplenty,... more>> but you also get fresh characters
Spoiler

like the duchess

[collapse]

Third: The novel doesn't revolve around romance. Who's tired of reading novels about the female lead being reborn, meeting her true love, and beating up her stepsisters? Idk about you, but I sure am! Instead of falling in love, our girl boss
Spoiler

divorces her scummy husband

[collapse]

Overall: I could binge this for 72 hours straight and still not be bored. It's fresh, captivating, and Fang Junrong commands respect. You definitely won't regret giving this novel a try :D <<less

This story is amazing! Told from the "Evil" character's side; you get to see what happens when those we assume are evil, get a do-over. I love the way dreams are used to pull out the truth. The M-I-L always knew her D-I-L was two-faced, and had an agenda. But this time she can block her, save her daughter, and even save some other "minor" cannon-fodder, that knew her D-I-L in their last life. She is also unraveling other mysteries, that surrounded her and her daughter's down fall. Also she... more>> is just plain funny! I hate the husband, but can I say the son is the worse! The way she was set up.. ?? I love stories told from the prespective of an older woman; nothing is black and white. And this time around, mom truly knows best! 10/10. I re-read chapters all over again, waiting on new ones. The translation is amazing too! I couldn't wait for new chapters and have already subscribed to the Patreon. This is self-care at this point. Get into it! <<less

There is no logic for this story. The plotholes become bigger as each chapter goes by. The villains have negative IQ points. Everything somehow works in the MC's favour. There is no conflict or tension.

I hate every single character in this novel and regret wasting my time reading this. Some of the other reviewers before me, mentioned about the rainbow farts around the MC and I agree. It's way too much.

Oh yeah, I read the raws, not the translation so can't comment on the translations.

This book doesn't get nearly enough credit. It has interesting plot twists and a very satisfying way of handling matters.

At no point, did I roll my eyes because it went too far or became too illogical. In fact, the face-slapping and revenge was satisfying with just the right amount of over-the-top flair.

The book also has its cliches that are acceptable and to some extent, loveable.

That said, I deducted one Starr because the book has a small weak point. Agreeably, it is not about romance but when the romance comes up... more>> for the characters towards the very end, it is very bland, if not lacking. Just because the MC is older doesn't mean the love has to be colder.

Overall, a very satisfying rebirth story. You don't need a teen rebirth to make something of your life! <<less

Story is still going on.

With many mysteries of past life were involved not only involving MC but many other characters who had bad fate as MC due to ori FL "cheat" she stole from MC. Ori FL and her supporters destroyed MC. These "supporters" destroyed "supposed to be main characters " of their families with ori FL cheat. Now MC intentionally helping most of them so "supporters" won't come in power in their families. Most supporters destroyed her daughter life as heartless beasts even her son threw her Daughter as... more>> a plaything to a gangster subordinate. It's funny how is it shown most "supporters" and even ori FL n her son thinks that his mom (mc) is only angry at him and won't leave everything to her daughter showing asian biases. But to MC her son could be considered as placenta. <<less

6 stars out of 5 I'd give it 7 but the ending was a little weak and the side stories as well.

If you want to read face slapping that makes you smile and laugh this is your novel. I smiled the whole time I read it and just couldn't put this down.

Important points

The translation is very readable, and the MTL is as well

The story moves along quickly.

The comedy is exceptionally enjoyable.

Negatives: Weak ending but only when compared to the rest of the story

I didn't expect to like it so much! It is not a mind-blowing masterpiece but it is a very enjoyable read with the characters that are good to love and hate. Very satisfying face-slapping, very cool heroine and an interesting cast of supporting characters. It did suffer from the usual problem of such novels - it was too long - so it's better not to read it in one go and make interruptions, returning to it when you need something to lighten your mood. The writing style also sounds natural... more>> and flowing, and big thanks to the translator for that. <<less

Just as the title might suggest, this novel is about face-slapping, and it does deliver. There are no stakes, no struggles, no challenges, no emotional fluctuations, no intelligent antagonists, no philosophical depths. Our MC slaps every face she wants to slap with the barest effort. The characters are fairly dull and cookie-cutter, but -- after all, we s*aves of capitalism like uniformity and cookies. The novel may be suitable for consumption on the commute home from work, after a long day when one's brain is on low battery.

Under normal circumstances,... more>> my rating for such a novel would be a 3 out of 5. After all, I grew up reading Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet, so I'm quite tolerant of people sinking into faints as a way to end a chapter. However, I cannot really give passing grades this time, because this author seems to know so little about science, magic, or business -- despite MC relying on all three areas to rise. There is no functioning system, no planning, no logic to any of it. It's worse and more pointless than Edward Cullen's diamond sparkle skin. Some people's suspension of disbelief would not be disturbed by such things, but mine was. Toss in a big cup of limp exposition and you have a particularly tasteless soup for the mind. I drank slightly over a quarter of it for the water content, but I have to be honest about the lack of flavour or nutritional value. Two stars. <<less

I like it a lot. The only gripe I have is her son. I think I'm speaking as a mom. I see towards the end that her son is truly repentant and knows what happened in the past, what caused her hate for him. Even if you give him up, at least give him a chance. The first few times he approached her, you can see that he hasn't repented. But after getting revenge for her and getting a wake-up call, I think he deserves a chance from her forgiveness.
