Stories I enjoyed, in some different genres/ story styles, some are funny and others are serious; they all have some romance aspect

What I focus on the most is character; specifically, the MC // and how the main romantic relationship works

I usually prefer calm, level-headed MC's, but there are always exceptions - as long as they aren't infuriating; bonus for respectful ML

I will add my comment on all the stories for reference;

placed in a vague order, from my more enjoyed novels from the top; although new added novels will be placed higher for more spotlight

!!Don't place too much importance of placement, a lot of these are on the same level as others novels on the list, but I can't quite show that

If you have any recommendations for me based on this list, please, I implore you to!!! I am always on a hunt for these kind of stories, and I can never get enough of them:D

and it really lives up to the hype! barely 10 chapters in and I've cried multiple times, I was amazed at how I was so quickly emotionally hooked; if you want a more reliable and in-depth review definitely check out the ones of people who have read the full thing, cause they have a lot to share, and convinced me for sure.

it starts out with our MC, a girl who has no memories of her past and who she is. As she gets punished for a crime she wasn't aware of, you are introduced to this new world, where genetic mutations and altercations are the norm and future in space.

she is further dragged into this strange new world's problems when she is offered her life in exchange for replacing a princess in a political marriage and posing as her. Of course, she agrees.

I thought that the next steps would be showing how the forced marriage would turn into a real one, but this story is so much more than that, I can tell even just a mere 12 chapters in.

And our MC here is no pushover; in the beginning she may be like a newborn deer, without anyone or anything familiar to support her, but she strives ahead with her own strength, facing people head-on when she is blatantly shunned and disrespected, improving herself through training, setting goals for herself,

Usually i prefer to read about a cold and calculating mc because of how satisfying it is, but I really have to admire this MC when you follow her story; she tries to be friendly and is kind-hearted, but she is also smart, can get angry when wronged, and just has so much endurance and will to live despite being thrust into difficult situations with her loss of memory.

Based on the reviews I have no doubt that the author is not afraid of making the story heart-breaking, but something inspiring about that is the author's own words to the reader, in which, life has changes that can cause you pain, but along with this we can learn to appreciate what changes life has laid out for us.

I am anticipating a wonderful story that will drain my heart, and fill it up again, and teach me lessons about change, acceptance and growth that i will remember every time i think of this story.

Yes this is how much I am expecting from this novel after a mere 12 chapters, I've never had high expectations like this for a novel before, but Im sure it will deliver that and even more. <<less

Don't be fooled by the title- it turned me off a bit, but after reading reviews, I settled down for an emotional earthquake, and torn between all the characters

Summary is that MC, a son of an aristocratic family died, then is returned to his younger days as a chance to redo his life for the better.

In the past, he was quite the scum- all for the emperor's second son, who he had a crush on- he treated his family wrong, and did many schemes to help him ascend the throne. But after that, he is punished to work as a prostitute, sold, abused, and shamed for the rest of his life.

From this, he decides to do all the thing right he did wrong in the past.

The present him is cold and calculating when working with and against others

A good quote from the novel that suits him the best,

"He is ruthless to himself. A man that is ruthless to himself will be even more ruthless to other people"

Because of his past faults and experiences, he doesn't treat himself as important, and this eventually does harm to him, physically and mentally

ML comes a bit later, and for me, their romance came a bit abruptly, but even later it shows how they were connected in the past, which ties it up nicely. ML is caring, but also has his own obstacles that are foreshadowed and may lead to his demise

What pleasantly surprised me the most was how well each character was written;

Even the emperor has depth!! I rarely see an emperor who shares his past and feelings with both the MC and the readers

And the antagonist - the emperor's second son- is also one of the best written villains that has so much substances than regular scum antagonists from other novels

Let's call him 'AN' for antagonist

At first, the reader will hate him as a selfish, greedy man who is willing to sacrifice everyone under him for his goals- "You want this country?" "I will get what I want, without fail"

But even in the first chapter, when MC's soul is still near his own body then leaves, the AN reaches and touches the MC's rotting corpse in a way, that will stick in your mind until he talks more to the MC later into the story

He is ambitious, and self-important, and is clever is his schemes, but as all humans, he does get tired, from failure after setback after setback

The scene that absolutely sold this book even more for me was after MC had destroyed one of AN's main/financial forces, they are both waiting near the emperor's room, and after the meet, they don't say anything; they just stare at the outside scenery in a moment of tranquility. Because they are both tired, and worn out. Also because they were once closer with each other.

Another thing is that when the MC does manage to hit a huge blow to AN, he doesn't feel happy or fulfilled, instead he feels the opposite. But he continues to do what he's doing, because he believes it's the way to protect his family.

All the characters have good and bad traits;

the 'bad' side isn't merely a flat personality who only does bad things for the sake of being bad, they have families, desires, motivation, and accept the consequences.

The 'good' side isn't all good either; they can kill, sacrifice, threaten, lie, and hold hostage if they have to, if it means that their goals are achieved and they protect those important to them.

11/10 Highly recommended, characters and worldly events are well written, things are foreshadowed so much, I'm a little scared for the ending, but can only brace myself <<less

Wow, I honestly wasn't expecting much, but this story certainly delivered!... more>>

An 'anti-fan' of a popular cultivation/fantasy novel in the modern world is transmigrated into that same novel- as the villain who abuses the protagonist. With his system, it is his job to fill in the plot holes, and make cannon-fodder raise their IQ again!

I went into this expecting a fun read, to not be taken seriously... but I was slowly s**ked into the good writing, the witty and light-hearted humor, and also the turmoil between MC and ML

I was also surprised by how often I would burst of laughing and hit my table

But as you read on, things get a little heavy and angsty; MC is pressured with his life (because his original body is dead, so if he's sent back he's a goner) to do something to ML that follows the original story plot in order for ML to get his 'golden finger' while going through hell.

This is the start of MC and ML tension, and many misunderstandings- but don't worry, it doesn't last forever

Some warning though- after ML blackens, he gets a little rough with MC because they fight it out a few times, and ML has some feelings of vengeance--

and there is a scene where it is stated that MC knows and allows ML to papapa him- albeit not gently at all- in order to distract him/get close enough/let him vent and dispel a curse that clouds ML's vision

MC strives to be calm on the outside, but is always flustered and panicky inside as he has to continuously plan out his next steps for surviving and following/fixing the plot. He is definitely strong in his own way, always persevering and keeping some of his morals

MC befriends a lot of people, and these characters are not one-dimensional- they have their own personalities and they care for MC. My favourite is the snake demon that MC saves, he is just so pure and I loved him so much, I wish there was more written about this fellow.

ML is originally a pitiful true white lotus, and after the incident where MC does something to ML to get his 'golden finger' in hell, he blackens and becomes heartbroken.

To be honest, I'm not quite sold on their relationship, even after finishing it.

After MC realizes ML's feelings for him, he often repeats how he is a straight man, and tries to keep their relationship as a teacher-student... you can see it being hinted and slowly shown that he cares very much for ML, and I thought it was foreshadowing MC's change of feelings, but it never really established that MC loves ML, so the end feels off/slightly forced and doesn't make sense to me.

But I did read an extra where MC and ML are interviewed, and it did expand their relationship a bit, and made it easier to accept them as a couple

Overall, a read that made me unexpectedly cry, a read that definitely made me laugh multiple times, and oddly philosophical as the MC realizes his wrongs in seeing ML with a tunnel vision.

Try reading with lower expectations, and maybe you'll find yourself surprised as I was with how much I was invested in the story:D <<less

Our MC is a lady with top fighting skills and strength, with a cold, indifferent attitude. She is quite OP in this aspect, but in this story, it doesn't solve everything, which I like.

Summary is, MC is a concubine who was gifted to the Emperor's most trusted enuch, ML. In serving him, she only serves him tea, and tucks his hair in when it falls out. Giving as much as she asks for. (admire points +1) However, the ML is a hated figure among the court for exposing everyone's crimes, no one is with him; in the end, ML tries to save MC as he is killed by one of the princes, though MC is killed as well. She is reincarnated to before this happens, and decides to dedicate herself to ML, because based on her previous life, she can trust him.

Hence the title, haha

MC, although she has great power, she doesn't have much will to live, and for now, her goal is to 'repay' ML

ML, has noticed MC for a long time, because of her indifferent attitude. He secretly longs for someone like her -who never smiles or asks for anything- to care about him, so hasn't kicked her out even as he cycles through concubines after concubine, because he is an enuch after all.

When MC approaches ML, they become slowly but surely entangled.

Their positions in the relationship are reversed from traditional ones, where MC is the one on top (and inserting) and giving to ML- she wants him to be able to feel pleasure as a 'normal' couple would be able to. At first he is resistant, but later gives in haha~

ML is also lacking in confidence about himself, as an unexperienced enuch, and constantly worries about MC finding a better partner. So he a clingy man, and possessive of MC, though no one can really trap her.

The main problem is that because everyone hates ML, he now worries that once the current emperor dies, the new one will kill him ASAP. So this story is a mixture of MC and ML slowly solidifying their relationship, as well as solving their problems in the royal house.

This story had me drooling, but I recommend you go into this slowly, with an open mind, and even then it may not be a story for everyone. <<less
