In the distant future world where genes determine life and death, searching for love that lasts until death——

Earth’s environment has reached the point of deterioration and its energy is already exhausted, mankind has to go to Interstellar to survive. At the moment of life and death, the door to genetic research was completely opened. In order to obtain a stronger physique, greater strength, and more survival opportunities, humans have modified their genes.

With the passage of time, various modified genes blended with each other, and the problems hidden in the genes gradually emerged. Mankind then discovered that genetic modification not only increased the chance of survival, but it also brought some devastating problems. Those people who have gained extraordinary powers by fusing genes of other species are called “human beings with heterogeneous genes” and rejected from normal human society. Especially those groups whose physical appearance is different from humans. They are called “mutant” contemptuously. When a woman with pure genes but no memory meets a man with a heterogeneous gene, how far can their love go?

Out of all Tong Hua's work, I love this the most. Prop to Luo Lan for being an amazing protagonist. The world-building is so magnificent!! This is Tong Hua's longest novel so far with around 900k words!

I'm not here for the ending, I'm here for the journey.

I agree with most of EuRee's review and EuRee didn't lie when she said her thoughts are full of spoilers. Try to not read EuRee's thoughts for full enjoyment! Just read the first half of it! Because she already did most of... more>> the work, I will try my best to do this review from another perspective.

Tong Hua already warned the readers when they decided to read this.

"In life, there is never a way to plan and there will always be unexpected changes in destiny. Changes not only mean pain, but also new scenery. We must know how to appreciate the scenery bestowed by fate and let go of the pain that fate gives us."

There, that paragraph already summarized the entire novel.

MLiS is full of unexpected changes. You could be laughing in one moment, then get hit by a truck in the next. Those changes could be a happy change or a painful one. To enjoy this novel to the utmost, "we must know how to appreciate the scenery bestowed by fate and let go of the pain that fate gives us."

I didn't realize the significance of that paragraph in my first read, I just went "Hmmm, wise words". I only realized its significance after I read this for the nth time. This paragraph is in Volume 3 Chapter 5. Titled "The Thing I Hope You Remember the Most" or "最希望你记住."

There were connections from Volume 1 to Volume 4. This paragraph also appears in Volume 1 Chapter 8. Titled "There are Always Variables in Life." It's not exactly the same paragraph, but the speaker and the meaning are the same. "This place is the most beautiful and tempting place to climb. Just like life. There's no way to plan it and there will always be unexpected changes. Those changes mean not only difficulties but also different sceneries. It is precisely because of these changes on the climbing road that people will always be in awe of life and look forward to the next moment"

You see, Tong Hua keeps reminding us. She hopes we remember it. Luo Lan's journey was full of changes. There were many hints scattered in the novel. It's not only this paragraph, there are lots of foreshadowing even from the very first chapter.

There are many things I liked about this novel. I won't have enough time to talk about all those things. Though I said that, I cried a lot when reading this. Especially when those changes happened. The warning wasn't enough. My heart wasn't ready.

Continuation from Volume 1 Chapter 8, Qian Xu and Luo Lan had this conversation.

"Because of these changes on the climbing road (life), people will always be in awe of life and look forward to the next moment"

"If the next moment is still windy and snowy?"

"Then continue to wait for the next moment."

Because of those changes, I was awed, but I couldn't look forward to the next moment because for me it was still windy and snowy. So I waited until I could look forward and saw the next moment turn into beautiful scenery.

MLiS is not an easy read nor is it a light read. It's normal if you dropped this midway then come back later to continue reading this. It's too tempting to not to. Tell you what, on my first read, I didn't finish this novel in one read. I took a break because I can't look forward to it. I picked this up again when I reluctantly accepted those changes. Perhaps at that time, I hope I read wrong and nothing had happened, just pretending everything was fine, haha. God damn, It's painful.

The second read felt like I was reading a different novel from the first one. It's not a bad difference per se, it's more like a pleasant difference. Because even though I already know all of the plot twists, there are still things that surprised me. Things that I didn't notice before; Things that actually had a double meaning; Things that foreshadowed the plot.

The more I reread this the more I can enjoy it. Probably because I could already let go of most of the things that happened and could learn to accept those changes. Enjoy the new scenery and let go of the past. That paragraph didn't lie, huh. Of course, there are things that I still could never let go of, and reading those passages still left me empty (I'm looking at you, Chapter 188.)

Yin Nanzhao told a certain someone, "You have the ability to say no to anyone and anything. However, there are lots of people in this world. Fate isn't kind to all of them, some are robbed of their ability to choose. The things in the world are not only white or black; The people in the world are not only good or evil."

Can you say someone that sacrificed their lives for their country is evil because of your different beliefs? Can you say someone that chose to hurt others and himself because he thought he didn't deserve the kindness that was given to him is bad? Can you say you love someone, with all your heart, your body, your blood, your soul regardless of who that person is? Can you say you love the past them, the present them, the future them regardless of the sins they had committed?

The characters felt human. They have their own egotistical desires, they have their own beliefs. Not all of them were cardboard characters. Most of them have distinctive features and characteristics. Luo Lan is one of the best female protagonists. Ever. She has her temper. She knows what she wants and how to achieve it. She is decisive. She is amazing. Her character development is *chef's kiss.* From a trembling newborn fawn to a dazzling and confident adult. Like a butterfly in its metamorphosis stage.

I am satisfied with the ending of MLiS, but I always hoped Chapter 188 didn't exist. The ending was suitable for the plot that had been built across 4 Volumes. What's your definition of a happy ending? Everyone lived happily forever ever after? Well, only those who survived can get their happily ever after! Their happiness was built from the hard work and pain of the previous generation, but at last, from now on, because of the previous generation's hard work; because the previous generation didn't give up; because the previous generation keeps moving forward; everyone would be able to reach their forever ever after. Is it a happy ending? Maybe. Is it a bad ending? Maybe. Is it a bittersweet ending? Also, maybe. In the end, it was a beautiful ending on its own.

Don't get too attached to a character. Learn to love them all. The good and the bad. It's (not) alright to be biased. See, I'm also very biased to Qian Xu. I love him with all my heart. Chen Sha is also good, but pales in comparison to my love for Qian Xu and Luo Lan!

Remember your experience from reading Tong Hua's novel. Getting too attached to a character is a one-way ticket to suffering! I experienced it myself, I won't lie to you!! Remember Chi You and A-Heng from Tong Hua's other novel! If there is no deep love, there won't be any deep hatred.
Spoiler

The one who left first was happier than the one left behind. It's because their moment was frozen in the moment of happiness while the other was left tortured by the memories day by day.

[collapse]

Read the novel description!! The "Tragedy" tag and "Death of Loved Ones" are there because of reasons.

Spoiler

My only solace was that my ship reunited in the end, they met the same end, in the same way! I don't care what you said, it's a happy ending for me, if they can't be together in life, then lets them be together in death! They finally reunited! Even death can't do them apart anymore!! The world that he wanted was realized, but he wasn't in that world anymore! She finally realized his wish, so she finally have the courage to meet him! They are soulmates. Period. Fight me if you want to change my mind. She was his wife and he was her husband! The ceremony was completed!

...

Hey, now I said that. I realized it could apply to both ships. Huh. Interesting. STILL! You know who my favorite is.

[collapse]

For the "Unreliable Narrator" tag, I totally agree with that. It is not noticeable in Volume 1 and 2, but even then there are many unreliable narrated led you astray from the truth. Not only from Luo Lan's side, but also from other characters' side. However, in Volume 3 and 4, this tag shines. Holy, so many things between the lines; so many unsaid things; so many things you could (and must) notice on your own. Even though this novel is from 3rd party PoV, most of the PoV is from Luo Lan's view. You must read between the lines to know what Luo Lan really thinks, what she really wants, what she really hopes. Not everything that had been said by characters in the novel is exactly true. Even if someone said with a certainty that "A" will happen when "B", it's not necessarily true. Stand firm with your beliefs.

Spoiler

After all, in Volume 3 and 4, Ying Xian Luo Lan is a liar. She can even lie to herself, how could you foolishly believe everything she narrated? If you really want to know her, want to understand her. Don't rely on what she had said, rely on what she HADN'T said.

[collapse]

Edit: Based on what Mochi Lover said, maybe the tag "Unreliable Narrator" shouldn't be there, but as far as I know, while the "Unrelliable Narrator" tag is mostly used in the first-person point of view, it can exist in a third-person limited point of view, in which the lines between character and narrator becomes blurred. In this case, Luo Lan's limited point of view. While Luo Lan never outright lied to the readers, she doesn't know all things that happened in the novel (because she is a character in the novel, obviously) and her own beliefs about people/things that she kept narrating with sureness even thought some of them turned out not true. In that way, her unreliabilities bleed into the narration. Obscuring us from the truth. Misleading us. Creating a plot twist later in the story. However, that's just my experience and understanding of "Unreliable Narrator, " tags in NU, i.e. ErHa, Death Progress Bar, SVSSS, etc. So I may be in the wrong.

Ah, this went from a serious review to spoilery review... Sigh, I really can't hold myself back, sorry. Well, it's a vague spoiler so I think I can give myself a job well done there??

In all honesty, my favorite line. ever. is "Then, try both." 笑笑笑.

I'm sorry, I'm going to jail for that and I have no regrets. If you also remember that line, come, accompany me in jail. None of you are free of sins. This is also one of the reasons I like MLiS, it may be a heavy read, but Tong Hua could slip some light-hearted comedy that won't look out of place.

I especially recommend this! If you only like a light read, Volume 1 and 2 are enough! Just pretend volume 2 ended happily ever after and Volume 3 and 4 didn't exist (ha.) If you like a heavy read, go all the way to Volume 4. You can drop this book anytime if you feel the plot was too heavy, but remember to go back and finish this because it's worth the journey. It's very memorable and full of nostalgic feelings. Otherwise, I wouldn't read this so many times. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not that fond enough of collecting one-way tickets to suffering just to suffer, you know *cries.*

This is just personal enjoyment ranking, but for me, Volume 2 > Volume 1 = Volume 4 > Volume 3. Not because I dislike Volume 3, no, no, I like the plots in Volume 3. But, God, Volume 3 is full of knives. I always cried whenever I reached Volume 3, haha.

My #1 is Volume 2 because... how can I not love Volume 2 when it is focused on my bae?! They are so happy?! How dare you not love Volume 2!
Volume 1 and Volume 4 are equal in #2 because both are so good! I am attracted to this novel because of Volume 1 and I keep re-reading this because of the finale in Volume 4! Both are interlinked.
Volume 3 is in #3 because Chapter 188 is in Volume 3! I actively avoided that chapter with all my heart and my soul! Thank you!

If you want to know my review about the ending, below are my thoughts. Beware of spoiling yourself, though.

Spoiler

In a matter of honesty, it depends on your perspectives and preferences. But, we can agree that this is definitely not a happily ever after ending. Some may say it is a bad ending, some may say it is a bittersweet ending. For me, the ending is a happy ending, but not a happily ever after one. There are many reasons as to why I said that it is a happy ending.

At the very end of the novel, Luo Lan and the first ML realized the world that they wished. They had steadfast and the best love in the world. They had crossed paths, they had loved each other passionately. They die contented. In the same way, because of the same person. Everything she had done, consciously or unconsciously, were for/because of the first ML.

"Life for his ideals. Die for his revenge."

It was tear-jerkingly beautiful.

Some of you may say, "but her last words were said to the other ML! Not to the first ML! The other ML was the true ML!" Why would her last words be for a dead person? For the first ML, everything had been said and done. There's no need for other words. Instead, she still has a lot to say to the other ML. Their time was cut short. Their separation was unexpected.

Her and the first ML's love was steadfast and very vibrant. Their love had already been cultivated to that point. Their love was the best love that was engraved for a lifetime in their heart. Don't get me wrong. She loved the other ML, that's the truth. She also wished to spend their life together, that's also true. She was willing to bear his child and loved their children, that's also a fact. However, compared to her love for the first ML, it was cut short. Their love hadn't had the time to change into a steadfast and very vibrant love like the first ML's love. If given a chance, it'll definitely turn into that, alas.

Denying the other ML loved Luo Lan was like denying Luo Lan loved the first ML. Denying Luo Lan loved the other ML was like denying the first ML loved Luo Lan.

Both loved each other. But one was cut short after it start, one was cut short before it even start.

Ever wondered why her last words were "I'm sorry, please live well" and not "I love you"? Because at that time she already knew, living in a world where the person you loved left you behind was hell on earth. Full of pain and suffering. She knew because the first ML left her behind. Her only salvation at that time was her 'hatred' for the first ML.

If you noticed, in terms of relationship, Volume 1 and Volume 2 were parallel for Volume 3 and Volume 4. Volume 1 and Volume 2 were about Luo Lan and the first ML's love, while Volume 3 and Volume 4 were about Luo Lan and the other ML's love.

Luo Lan forgot everything and by chance, met with the first ML. Later, the other ML forgot everything and by chance, met with Luo Lan.

For Luo Lan at that time, the other ML was her safe-haven, the other ML stubbornly let himself into her heart. Therefore, she gave up resisting and was willing to spend her life with him, because his love healed her. For the first ML at that time, Luo Lan was his safe-haven, she stubbornly let herself into his heart. Therefore, he gave up resisting her and willing to spend his life with him, because she was his light, the one that healed his wounds. His everything.

The other ML remembered everything, then he decisively left her. Just like her, when she remembered everything. She decisively left the first ML.

When the other ML left her, she was in pain. Then, she remembered how she decisively left the first ML. The other ML gave her mercy and didn't leave right in front of her eyes, but she left right away in front of the first ML's eyes. Right when he was dying. How much pain was he in at that moment? He was dying, yet the person he loved the most abandoned him. It must be so painful, right?

No. The first ML was in pain, but not because of her decisiveness to leave him. It was his choice, to let her 'hate' him. He was shot by the Gun of Death. He was dying. Maybe you'll ask, "he was so strong, yet he couldn't avoid that shot?" He could, but he didn't. Because the gun was shot at Luo Lan. He couldn't let her die, so let him be the one that dies.

He said, "I'm sorry." Why? Because he failed to protect her, to protect her happiness. He chose to let her remember everything. He let her remember all the pains that she had forgotten. It was a cruel decision from him. So, even when she decisively left him, he still loved her. Until the very end, it was his choice. Because he believed her. She could overcome this. She won't lose herself on her journey. She would know the way back home.

Seeing her left so decisively was a mercy for him. He was willing, he'd die contented. She wouldn't be despaired because of his death. He was content. Let this person, whom he loved with his heart, his soul, and everything, be happy without him. Let this person, whose past, present, and future were loved so much by him, move forward without hesitation.

He let her 'hate' him because if she 'loved' him, she wouldn't have the strength to survive

Near the end of the novel, Luo Lan met a dead-end and she nearly gave up. At that time, the first ML, who was rarely mentioned after his death, came to give her hope and salvation. Came to find her because she was lost in her journey. Came to take her home.

Before this, she 'hated' the first ML. She denied everything that had happened between them. Like the way, the other ML denied everything that had happened between them.

Then, came his message. A message that let her accept herself, all the good, the bad, the light, and the dark. A message that let her move forward with confidence because she knew even after everything, that person still had her back. All the prajna was her, the unique her. She let go of her pains, of her hatreds, of her obsessiveness.

Because she was loved passionately by him, because their path had crossed, because she had been given the best love she could ever want and wish for. She stopped denying herself. The past her, the present her, and the future her. That person loved her regardless of anything, so she would accept his love and accept herself, for him. The years she spent beside him, wasn't a lie. Wasn't a deception just to dig his secrets. He wished for her to be happy, even without him, then she would be happy.

"Once love happens, there is no if, only result"

She was sure the first ML loved the past her, the present her, and the future her. She wasn't sure about the other ML. The other ML loved the past her, the kind 'Luo Xun' and the aggressive 'Luo Luo.' Would he be able to love the liar 'Ying Xian Luo Lan'? She didn't know, but the first ML could, surely the other ML also could? She had the time to realize it, those memories she created when she was amnesiac weren't a lie, weren't specks of dust in her memory and she had come to terms with it. The other ML hadn't. They never got to meet to resolve their knot, they never got to meet to create another steadfast and vibrant love that was the best in the world.

Ying Xian Luo Lan died. In the same way, the first ML's died. Under the same person. At that time, she was in pain. Not because of her wounds, but because she finally realized, it hurt so much when she was shot by the Gun of Death. She thought that it was painful enough when she left him decisively, turns out it was way much more painful.

So, back to the question, why "I'm sorry" and not "I love you"? She was dying. She laughed with tears. She had her regrets, one of them was leaving the other ML when she had provoked him to love her. She could live because she 'hated' the first ML. He wouldn't be able to live, because he 'loved' her. So she said, "Sorry, please live well." Saying "I love you" at that time would just drag him to the abyss. That's why she rather said "I'm sorry" and entrusted him with the world that she created. He would live because he wanted to fulfill all her wishes. Like her who would continue to live to fulfill all the first ML's wishes. Sadly, she didn't get the time to personally do it.

At the very last, she looked up to the sky. Why the sky? The sun is in the sky. The first ML was in the sky, he was her sun. When the first ML's died and his body dissipated, he turned one with the sky. She looked at him. One last time. That's why she laughed. She tried her best, don't blame her for dying early, okay. At least, she had created the world he wished for; She had avenged him; She killed his killer with the same weapon that was used to kill him; She died in the same way as him, dissipating into the sky. In the end, she became one with the first ML. A light scattered in the galaxy. She died contented.

"They can't grow old together, so let them be together in life and death."

When she died, a tear fell onto the necklace; When he died, a tear fell onto the necklace.

The same end, the same way, the same wish, the same love.

So, yes, for me, it's a happy ending because I shipped Luo Lan with the first ML. A tear-jerkingly beautiful happy ending. I love the other ML, but I will choose the first ML every time I get the chance to.

The other ML got a tragic ending. He got back his honorary status, but he lost the love that he wanted to cherish.

"In life, there is never a way to plan and there will always be unexpected changes in destiny. Changes not only mean pain, but also new scenery. We must know how to appreciate the scenery bestowed by fate and let go of the pain that fate gives us."

Let me share a cent of my thoughts because Memory Lost in Space needs more recognition. I already prepared my heart before reading Memory Lost in Space yet it didn't change the fact my heart shattered into pieces when reading this. This... more>> is Tong Hua we are talking about, don't let the happy beginning deceive you. I dropped this twice, purely because my heart needed a break, before I was able to brace myself to continue and finish this.

In Memory Lost in Space, we start with an amnesiac girl that accidently got a death-sentence because she ate a precious research object, an apple, yeah, you read it right, an apple. Not wanting to give up on her life, she made a deal with Dr. Mu. She switched place with a princess of Aerdes, Ying Xian Luo Lan. She needs to get married to Odin Federation in Ying Xian Luo Lan stead. From there, she started her journey in Odin Federation as Luo Lan.

  • Story - If you love Tong Hua's works, then you probably will love this one! Volume 1 to Volume 4 cover different aspects and the novel description have done this novel justice (the foreshadowing, ouch). The world-building for this novel is magnificent. I think Tong Hua did a good job when she put some light-hearted comedy in it, it feels more natural compared to Tong Hua other novels. 890k words for 4 Volume (Volume 1 - Lost, Volume 2 - Stealing Dream, Volume 3 - Butterfly, Volume 4 - Brilliance), I tried to binge read it twice and both cost me a day (and boxes of tissue). The novel starts with Luo Lan and ends with her. This is a story about Luo Lan and her journey. Each time I finished a volume, I feel emptier. The tag "Death of a Loved ones" isn't to be underestimated and when I though there were already enough deaths..

There is little plotholes here and there, but it won't reduce your reading experience. About the ending, I think overall it's happy ending for everyone else, except for the main casts.. Main casts got a very bittersweet ending bordeline BE. With more bitter than sweet for each casts. Including MC and MLs. Seems like being cannon fodder in Tong Hua novel is better than being the main casts..
  • Character - MC From start to finish, I adore her. Her past self, present self, future self. Because in the end, it's all her. She was very self-aware about her condition so she tried her best to improve herself. Her tenacity never fails to surprise me. She knows what she wants and won't hesitate to obtain it. I see her grow, from Volume 1 to Volume 4, and feel proud. At some point, I don't want to see her grow up, I want her to remain as she was so she could take a well-deserved break but she can't, she needs to grow up. She definitely shines brighter compared to the MLs and other casts. I am not gonna complain about it.

    ML

There are only 2 (3 if you squint hard enough) MLs here. I love all the MLs, but I admit I have a bias and prefer some ML more than the others. They didn't outshine MC, instead they let MC grow! A supportive MLs that let MC grow? Sign me up. They love MC in their own ways.

    Spoiler

    1. Qian Xu - kind, gentle, considerate, decisive. Luo Xun's source of light. Reliable senpai that is always willing to help and pamper you but still let you stand on your own feet and do things on your own. I love him too much, send help.

    2. Yin Nanzhao - like An Rong said, Yin Nanzhao was the best in the world, with the face of an angel and heart of a devil. Selfishly selfless, how can you do this to my heart? I love him too much. How to unlove, send help.

    3. Chen Sha - your typical cold and domineering Commander. Emotionally stunted/no. Actually a good and sweet boy but he is awkward so he seems cold. Give him a chance.

4?? Zi Yan - Your big brother next door that always teases you and be there for you, tried his best. Give him a break and a salary raise, please.

5?! Ying Xian Ye Jie - Is he a ML or is he not? Hehe. He just wants his Luo Lan back. At least, his love for Luo Lan is real and you must agree with me about that one.

(remember, there are only 3 MLs in the novel)

    Side casts

Some are more memorable than the others. What you see may not be the truth. Not everything is black and white. I didn't doubt a certain someone until it's too late and I ended up hating said someone. That mf. I doubted a certain someone but it turned out said person was pretty loyal to Odin even if said person wasn't loyal to the leader, I can't bring myself to hate said person's actions even if I despise said person. Those side casts have life outside of MC's. Some support MC and some oppose her. They have their own reasons that fuelled their action.
  • Relationships Relationships develop naturally (and painfully). MC's social circle consist of those who interact often with her, not all side casts interact often with her because MC has her own job and they have their own.
I want to put my thought toward some of the relationship but it may too spoilerish and spoil your enjoyment.. so here it is, I tried my best to make it not too spoilerish! Below are my short thought (I tried my best, really) toward:

[Don't read my in-depth thought and analysis for full reading experience because it full of spoiler and my personal thought, meaning it will be subjective.]

  1. MC and 1st ML
    Spoiler

    1. Star-crossed lover.

    2. Soulmates.

    3. Look at number 1 and rethink your life choices

    4. P a I n

    5. Tooth-aching fluff

    6. Tooth-aching angst

    7. Yeeted halfway but always present even until the end. Truly a soulmate.

    8. Chapter 188 broke me

    9. Chapter 308 broke me

    10. The only ML that able to say "Love not only the present you, but also the past and the future you" out loud to Luo Lan.

    11. "You gave me a beautiful view, and I give you the world that you want"

    12. A blood-sucking vine is their baby

    13. I'm gonna pretend first half of Volume 3 end up in Happy Ending for them

    [collapse]

Below is my in-depth thought and analysis toward MC and 1st ML, containing heavy spoiler and subjectivity. When I said heavy spoiler, I mean it. Read at your own risk.

    Spoiler

I, as said above, am a fan of Yin Nanzhao and Qian Xu. A man born in darkness and in control of his own destiny, who does not need anyone's sympathy. There are many sweet and bitter moments with him. I don't even know how my heart survived him. Honestly, I don't think it did. Even when I'm writing this I want to re-read Memory Lost in Space again because I want to meet him and see his and Luo Lan journey once again. Even if it hurts, even if it pains me. That is how much I love Yin Nanzhao. So prepare yourself for my bias below.

If you have read Chapter 308 and still think Yin Nanzhao only loved Luo Xun because what happened in Chapter 188, you are wrong and I will fight you. Yin Nanzhao let Luo Xun recover her memories, not because so she can live and die with him, but he know he can't protect her anymore, and if Luo Xun stayed as Luo Xun she won't be able to survive without him in this cruel world. He could only let the ruthless but powerful Luo Lan back so she can survive, but he believed that Luo Xun would not disappear. And true to his believe, Luo Xun never disappear.

Chen Sha is very good, I like Chen Sha. But for Ying Xian Luo Lan, Yin Nanzhao is the home for her soul. I personally think that Luo Lan's love for Yin Nanzhao is carved in her bones, even when Luo Lan doesn't admit that Luo Xun is her. The only person in the book who really understands Luo Lan and truly loves her is Yin Nanzhao. Whether it is Chen Sha or Zi Yan, Luo Xun is the one who they love (at first). Even Xiao Jiao's natural closeness to Xin Luo was because unconsciously Chen Sha treated her as Luo Xun. That kind, firm, and gentle Luo Xun. Luo Lan knew this, so she subconsciously hated Luo Xun. Luo Xun is just a derivative of her, why can she get so much love but Luo Lan can't? She even felt that Yin Nanzhao only loved Luo Xun, and everyone hated Luo Lan.

Luo Lan cried like a child after she heard Yin Nanzhao message that he purposefully left in her childhood home, because at that time she finally understood that Yin Nanzhao had known her identity a long time ago and still loved her and did not differentiate her and Luo Xun. A child that was lost finally found her way back home. Yin Nanzhao loves the past her, the present her, and the future her.

Luo Lan cried because someone finally understood her, and someone loved her unconditionally, even if this person is her enemy. But Yin Nanzhao is dead, the man who knows her best and able to love her to the fullest is no longer here. Because of him, she finally can accept herself, all the good and the bad. Luo Lan accepted that she was Luo Xun and accepted Yin Nanzhao because she knew there was a man who loved her with his life even if their love was destined to be doomed. In the end of the novel, Ying Xian Luo Lan has the kindness and beauty of Luo Xun, the courage and determination of Long Xin, and the self-suffering and internalization of Xin Luo.

Yin Nanzhao did everything for her, trusting her unconditionally and love her to the fullest. Neither Chen Sha nor Zi Yan were like that at first. They only had that sunflower in their eyes, and treated Luo Lan like a nightmare.

Yin Nanzhao gave Luo Xun's a s*ave's wedding because he still felt that it was his truest identity. His existence was illegal as Yin Nanzhao and as Qian Xu. While watching the red waves, he prevented Luo Xun from cutting her fingers. Not completing the ceremony. Later, Luo Lan completed the following steps by herself and she was finally Yin Nanzhao's wife.

After Yin Nanzhao's death, Luo Lan, who rejected her memory as Luo Xun, still unknowingly lived like Yin Nanzhao, her ruling style, her pitiful attitude towards herself, and the way she looked at mutant species and the human world always reflected the shadow of Yin Nanzhao (so only the simple and warm Xiao Jiao can really approach her, just like the once warm and beautiful Luo Xun walked into Yin Nanzhao's heart), and finally they fell under Gun of Death in the same way. Becoming dust in the galaxy. Fulfilling this pair of star-crossed lover. It can be regarded as the same in life and in death.

I feel sad that until the end no one really remember Yin Nanzhao anymore, the only legacy left for him is Xunzhao Vine. But from the very beginning, Yin Nanzhao never sought fame, he didn't need his name to be written in history. As long as he can do something good for the world that rejected him, as long as he can love and protect Luo Lan to the fullest. He needs nothing

    Spoiler

I like Chen Sha as a character, really.

At first, I couldn't accept Chen Sha becoming the main Male Lead. You say, I spent 188 chapters with Yin Nanzhao as the main male lead, and have fallen for him. hard. just for Chen Sha to become the main male lead in the end? Unacceptable. Truly unacceptable. Fortunately, I gradually accepted that maybe it's good that Luo Lan can learn to love another person again. Yin Nanzhao will always have a place in Luo Lan's heart but Yin Nanzhao isn't there anymore. As Yin Nanzhao said, he also hopes Luo Lan can be happy even without him and that is why I reluctantly accepted Chen Sha as the main male lead. Letting go of Yin Nanzhao. BUT. CHEN. SHA. DISAPPOINT. ME. AHHH.

Does Luo Lan love Xiao Jiao? I think she does, but compared with Luo Xun's love for Yin Nanzhao, it pales in comparison. It may be a bit too much to say so, but this is just my personal opinion. Luo Lan is sensitive and suspicious, doesn't trust anyone, and acts in a harsh and vicious manner. Only if Xiao Jiao trusts her wholeheartedly and loves her unconditionally that she is willing to open her heart. Like Luo Xun to Yin Nanzhao. However, Xiao Jiao changed back to Chen Sha. Chen Sha is Xiao Jiao and Xiao Jiao is Chen Sha. Luo Lan knew this. Her love for Xiao Jiao didn't change but she would suffer because of that. This is also the reason why after Chen Sha betrayed her, she got drunk and delirious, regarding Ah Sheng as Yin Nanzhao. She didn't believe that Chen Sha would love Luo Lan like Xiao Jiao.

Luo Lan's last message said "I'm sorry" instead of "I love you" (sorry for making you fall in love with me, but failed to grow old with you, and chose to sacrifice myself for my country).

Goddamnit, Chen Sha. From the very start, if Chen Sha treated Luo Xun better in their first ten years of marriage.. if Chen Sha realized his love for Luo Lan sooner.. if Chen Sha confessed to Luo Xun earlier.. if Luo Lan sees Xiao Jiao's gingerbread earlier, if Xiao Jiao opened Luo Lan's gift before betraying Aerdes as Chen Sha.. if Chen Sha accepted Luo Luo call in the end.. if Chen Sha does not turn around when he saw Luo Lan and his children.. Unfortunately, there is no if. Chen Sha's story is full of regret that I can't help but pity him. Especially after the main text ends, he can't go with Luo Lan because there are Luo Lan's wishes that haven't been achieved. Luo Lan entrusted her wish and dream to him, to the entire galaxy. So Chen Sha can't go with Luo Lan, not until 200 years later when he finally can rest. He is so pitiful, sigh.

I like Zi Yan more than Chen Sha. At the end, I felt sorry for Zi Yan inexplicably, especially when I saw Zi Yan holding Luo Lan's broken arm and howling. He was a man who accompanies Luo Lan and watches her accomplish everything.

His love for Luo Xun, his hostility and denial to Luo Lan, to his love for Luo Lan when he accepts that Luo Lan and Luo Xun are the same. His feeling contains lot of humbleness.

When I read the fanwai, Zi Yan died contentedly when he saw Chen Sha marrying Luo Lan. Tears rushed for a moment. His love is more humble than Chen Sha, because he regretted it all his life and missed it all his life.

He appears very arrogant, but actually the most tolerant. He loves Luo Xun, and in the end also loves Luo Lan. Luo Lan's final decision is witnessed by him. Once, he had the most perfect appearance in Odin Federation. He was willing to leave scars and marks on his face that were made by Luo Lan. There is nothing left from Luo Lan for him, then let this scar and mark leave evidence of a person he once loved to the end of life.

If in the beginning, Zi Yan is the one that married Luo Lan, will everything end up different?

    Spoiler

Ye Jie's death made me sad, as sad as when I read Yin Nanzhao's death. Luo Lan is truly alone. No one can protect her anymore, her protectors already dead.

Her last family member left her. Ye Jie's love is too gentle. He can use his life to protect his sister and tolerate everything about her. He truly loves Luo Lan. When Luo Lan came back to Aerdes just to see Ye Jie final moment... I can't- AH- my heart... What I wish is for Luo Lan to have her happy ending, but instead she gave everyone else a happy ending by sacrificing her own life.

Try reading Memory Lost in Space! You won't regret it! Don't forget to prepare tissues, though.. Reading this in CN is definitely more enjoyable, but if you don't understand chinese, mtl is also bearable. If you can't find/buy the original copy, just search for this novel original name in chinese and there'll be plenty of RAW lurking around that you can mtl using google translate extension in Chrome mobile/pc. Chapter 5 of PeachBlossomGrove TL is chapter 16-19 in the web novel. So you can continue from chapter 20: Choices or continue from book Volume 1 Chapter 6: Choices, section One. <<less

Hi, I love this novel. EuRee and Lyresian's reviews reflect what I think too. However, I just want to put out there that this novel does NOT have an unreliable narrator. Luo Lan is a super complex protagonist, but she does not fulfill the role of an unreliable narrator. An unreliable narrator always speaks in first-person (this novel is narrated in third-person) and is "unreliable" because they straight-up lie to the audience. A classic example: Lolita. Luo Lan never lies to the audience; we just have to surmise what exactly... more>> she's thinking.

A complicated protagonist ≠ an unreliable narrator. Just an English student wanting to put that out there.

That being said, Luo Lan kicks total bu*t and is the best female protagonist Tong Hua has written, easy. She seriously makes every other character pale in comparison. Read just for her! <<less

A truly outstanding futuristic space opera epic novel. The author's best work, imo. I read this entirely MTL and it was v readable (using ChatGPT improved the translation quality even more).

I really don't have words to describe the emotions this evoked in me. Very gripping. A complicated, fascinating FL, ethical and moral issues galore. Heart-warming and heart-rending scenes, equally. Absolutely loved it. I rarely give 5 star reviews but the world-building was done so well, plotlines just s**ked the reader in and left one in a state of suspense.

Highly, highly... more>> recommend. Don't let the lack of finished translation put you off! <<less

Why did I kept reading this? I haven't cried so much like this for a long time. Qian Xu is really too good to be true. Sigh. Hands down, best ML ever. If he's not a fiction I wanna marry him, please. Same with EuRee, I love him too much. Send help.

I haven't read that far yet, only until the latest translated chapter. You see, even if after this the novel goes downhill I think I would still rate it 5.

If this is anything like bu bu jin xing, the... more>> ending would surely surprise me. Can't wait for the next translated chapter. <<less
