I wanted to like it. I am a sucker for supernatural novels. And if everyone else in this novel can be re-written aside from MC and ML, then I would like it more.

I can usually power through to the end of a novel, no matter how bad it was. So novels where I get the “you really should drop this” feeling is rare. And this one is one of them.

Even if the chapters are short, if I have to go beyond 50 chapters just for the story to get better... more>> then I would have to quit. The other characters so far are pretty two-dimensional and... annoyingly dumb.

Spoiler

MC’s mom separates with her husband because his elders don’t like her - BUT they managed to have 3 sons before they separate. At that point you would hope, this dude has done enough to protect his wife and kids from his own family but no. They still don’t approve of her.

So the mom lives in a different city and adopts MC to fill her lonely days. But then she gets back together with this dude after 20 years (of also ignoring her sons!!!), and so the sons understandably resent their mother and the daughter she raised.

I’m fine with feeling that resentment but not fine with plotting against this poor orphan girl this woman adopts and then just puts aside once she got back her family. And why is no one blaming the shitty dad for not having the balls to keep their family together - dragging this innocent person into their shitty “we’re powerful but not really” rich people drama.

[collapse]

I really tried to power through this because I like MC. ML also seems promising (even if his bodyguards are ???). AND I like organizations that handle all the problematic supernatural stuff normal humans don’t know about. So many good elements - wasted by this writing. <<less

First, kudos for a well-written novel. Just hope that the translation will do justice for it. The plot was written without any illogical ideas that make you swear and throw the book (in this case your phone or tablet) to the floor. A lot of novels have this illogical sense that lost the initial charm of the story. But this one, thankfully, belongs to the novels that follows a consistent thought.

The characters growth and their twists and turns are a delight to read. A lot of unexpected surprises will astonish... more>> the reader. The FL, Qiao Jin is a strong, no-nonsense woman. She can kick-ass those villains all the way to Demon World. She thinks first before taking action. She's steady and not all OP. Hehehe... her weakness.... studying and school attendance. Hahaha!!! 😉😂. Not saying that she's a delinquent, she does well in school but she's not a topnotcher like her 2nd brother Mu Qichu. She's the all-powerful Array Master that ever existed in the world. She only remembered existing 10, 000 years ago during the time of the 4 kingdoms where spiritual masters governed the order of the world and guide their respective kingdoms, not interfering in the secular world. She woke up after her su*cide with her current consciousness merging with her slumbering consciousness. Hence, giving birth to the Powerful Array Master Qiao Jin.

Song Yanqing, the ML, is not the hateful type of ML. He's the gentle yet decisive ML who's been sick since he was a child because his life and luck was "borrowed" by another family for their sickly son. He was saved by Qiao Jin of course. Their meeting started at the Song's Private Hosptial after she awakens where she saw his death aura. His death aura is very beneficial to her. So she saved him from death. Their further encounters started off with her helping him solve his borrowed life and luck and evolving with him participating in her several missions with the spiritual group as the group's foreign aid. Over time, he slowly fell in love with her and... hehehe... he guides her to accepting him as a man... first as her friend then as her boyfriend. His reason: being boyfriend and girlfriend would give them legitimate reason to spend time together as often as they want. Really black-bellied.😈. Qiao Jin has no concept of love. She's learning familial love from the Mu Family, friendship love from her group of ladies, Mo Jiang and others, she's supporting (initially) and romantic love from Song Yanqing.

The supporting characters were well-written too. There's drama in there as well as cute comedy.😉. You have comedic relief Mu Qilian, adorable grandpas Mu and Ji, seriously serious brothers Mu Qizhi and Qichu, sweet and TV drama addict mommy Qiao Fei (Feifei for Qiao Jin), money-grubber 4K years old, resurrected-from-the-dead Powerful Array Master (2nd to Qiao Jin) Queen Mo Jiang, Etc.

The novel's length is just right... it's not overly long like 3K chapters etc that takes years to translate. Pacing is great without any unnecessary chapters as fillers that you can literally skip and you still get the flow of the story. Each chapter is a must-read. There's no extra chapters just to write the recipe of a food or repetitive character descriptions of how beautiful and handsome the protagonists are. I'm not saying that the author didn't mention this throughout when it was actually mentioned a couple of times. But it's not overly done unlike the other novels, repeating the descriptions of their eyes, lips etc... so tiring to read.😪

This novel may be classified as romance novel but for me it is more than that. It has elements of romance but it it's not the only core. It has elements of suspense, action, comedy and even horror.

When you read this book, the consistent thought or theme you would discover is making a choice. Choices that leads to consequences. Consequences that you have a choice to bear or not. Choices are like karma, has its own cause and effect. What would you choose? How much are you willing to bear? How much are you willing to sacrifice?

So like I said, romance is not the only main theme. Love and Choices are the core of this novel. So I hope you will enjoy reading this as much as I did.

Happy reading!!!🥰😘 <<less

@ Chp 758 (School Rules arc)

Really good novel with excellent writing. MC is a powerful Array Mage who reincarnates after 10, 000 yrs and the rise and fall of civilizations. The author does a superlative job in depicting her character - the worldview that comes from overlooking humanity is portrayed so well, not just in character descriptions but in the whole detached style in which the descriptions are written. Absolutely masterful. She is out of step with people because of who she is, but this also makes her very innocent and adorable in many areas; ruthless yet naive; loyal but extremely independent..

No-spoilers spoiler →
Spoiler

The plot follows the MC (and ML who also has a similar detached character but with different nuances) as she solves mysterious events, reads fortunes, cleans-up evil spiritualists, catches criminals, rescues and guides wakening spiritualists, [she's no do-gooder, she only fights someone in defense when they actually physically attack her, otherwise there is no 'faceslapping'; she just lets the 'cause and effect' and karma get the bad guys (another facet of her detached, universe-encompassing worldview). She's still righteous and never turns a blind eye to atrocities, intervening when she sees someone in danger - eg. Reading danger in someone's fortune →calling the cops on the criminal after ensuring the victim is safe - but this intervention is predicated on her 'fate' with the victim as they are her clients and she doesn't directly attack the bad guy just lets the world's cause&effect act via the cops; she empathizes with awakening spiritualists so she helps them but also because she has advantages in doing so] and tries to track down her lost memories. The multiple sub-plots as we follow these different people n places and their stories make the novel very interesting - especially as the author skillfully encloses hints that show us the deep connections between these seemingly unconnected events giving the whole story a breathtaking undercurrent of danger n hidden conspiracy.

[collapse]

In contrast to the emotionally cold MC and ML are the side characters esp the Mu family who are utterly adorable, giving a very warm, vivid hue to the whole story; or the villains like the Feng/Hurley family who are viciously involved. The play of emotions in the side characters gives a very rich depth to the plot which might otherwise have been difficult for the reader to empathize with given the cold, too-powerful-from-the-start nature of the leads; and highlights their own emotional growths. Basically, the author is friggin amazing, I'm a fan 😭😍🙌

Recommended story 👍🏻

Although it has a lot of chapters, they are quite short-length..

Both ML and FL made their 'debut' in the first chapter of the story, so that was very satisfying for me.. I like knowing who the MCs are from the beginning~

The story has a lot of mystery, because obviously, FL was an amnesiac resurrected character. I find it intriguing that her perspectives were actually not 100% accurate. So, when reading, I was kept to be on my toes, and reminded myself not to judge the characters until everything is known.

Spoiler

I find myself humoured everytime FL interacted with the Mu family. Even though I know FL's approach is considered to be rude from the eastern culture, her wit was quite novel. I'm glad the family dynamic continued until the end.

I also enjoyed reading about FL and her gang of rich/powerful misfits.. I wish there are more to read about them..

ML is super handsome, noble and strong. He truly loves FL. And his family is awesome and welcoming..

In the end, I think that the story is a long enjoyable reading, but at the same time, I feel like I can read more... 🌈

All in all, happy reading! 🍭 <<less

Honestly, this is one of the best written CN I've come across in a while (I don't usually real novels with more than 100 chapters, so it definitely is a feat to keep my curiosity for so long). The plot is cohesive, the reasons are explained/justified, and the characters are realistic/believable. Even a noob at fantasy elements will be able to read the story without any confusion. The plot maintains its mystery throughout the novel, without making the reader feel bored or repeating sequences. Still I felt some things could... more>> be explained more, (or maybe I wasn't able to understand it because of the MTL)

Spoiler
  • ML's proposal to the FL- He did trick her into the relationship. While she did develop feelings for him afterwards, she rarely invests in Displays of Affection and appears uninterested till the end, whick makes it look very one-sided from the ML's side.
  • The relation between Lattice Points and FL- There was no explaination why or how the LP's were placed? And why were they placed on humans when they could be placed on inanimate objects? How were these people related?
  • Meng Chuan was supposed to have a backlash due to killing her stepfather- The matter was never mentioned again. I know the novel isn't about her life- but.....I was curious.
  • In one chapter, it was mentioned that the Mo Huan wouldn't have come to China if the (Western???) Emperor hadn't instructed him. So who exactly was this emperor? And why wasn't he mentioned again- especially after Mo Huan disappeared?
  • An extra for Mu Qilian and Zhou's sister-- since the FL did mention he would meet his fated one in the army.

{P.S. I may have forgotten a few things because the novel is too long, and I don't have the best memory.} <<less
