[3.5/5] I really think I'm going to be jumped for this rating but /hold/ your knives, let me speak. This was an amazing novel, stellar, even. I'm a personal fan of playing cards since I grew up in a family that was pretty much an avid "family game night" type of folks, and so we reveled at destroying in poker and fight the landlord. So to have an entire unlimited flow novel based around playing cards was a dream come true. add onto the fact the interesting CP combination of a police offer and a forensic doctor was just the cherry on top!! like holy cow, power couple? for the first time in ages I... more>> sat down and LISTENED to each lengthy explanation in the heart rooms and allowed my tiny pea brain to absorb it because they were so damn cool. 

but there was one thing. /one/ thing. after the two began to start have feelings for each other Xiao Lou (MC) completely fell apart character-wise and became your normal damsel in distress. it was so distressing to watch my capable and intelligent MC turn into basically a blushing housewife :'))) it was the most rattling experience i've ever been through novel-wise... this would've been a 4/5 but I removed an extra half a star because of the sheer trauma this novel inflicted onto me of capable MCs turning into a stereotype of a bottom gay. its just. ugh. there's other flaws, of course, but still. this one fact shut me down COMPLETELY. but just my preferences!! i'm sure this is absolutely up other people's alleys (I mean, just look at the amount of readers this novel has) but this novel left too much of a bad taste in my mouth

Especially with the fact that a feeling of teamwork and community was fostered in such a dire situation, it really makes my old dog heart feel warm, especially compared to other unlimited flow novels where each player always seems to be at each other's necks. however the execution was...only decent at best. at times the writing felt like trying to walk through mud due to its repetitiveness among other things, and the romance wasn't even slow burn. its /glacial/, barely even burning. the leftovers of a fire from the prehistoric era. it wasn't even a solid junk read as it required actually a few... more>> braincells...its a shame

I mean, you've probably already read it anyway, and if you haven't, I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to BL in general.
