This was good read. The FL (Bai Zhi) was badass. She's strong and independent, her emotion and reason for revenge was deep.

Her vengeance & retribution were so satisfying.

This was the best short story! I just absolutely loved the plot and emotions. The main character truly struggled and overcame her issues before destroying everyone. The revenge was sweet. FIVE STARS!!!

Worth a read, but it is very rushed. It would be emotionally very hard to read it in the form of a full length novel because of what she goes through and how despicable everyone is. So there is an upside to it being so quick. Still, it would be a lot better if the pacing were less hectic.

BTW, repeat after me. Having "a setting" is not the same as having "world-building." A setting is a basic, world-building is advanced. You probably mean "the setting" not "the world-building."

This is a quick read but the story doesn't feel lacking at all. The writing, translation as well as the flow of the story is amazing.

Does anyone know if there's a part 2 for this? The epilogue was just full on cliff hanger.

Rather than a short story novel, this seems to be a shorter story novel that was abruptly cut off while being heavily rushed towards the end. Though MC achieves revenge, all the plots weren't resolved, and the story cuts off with her trying to find her parent (s). With it being short, the story was very fast paced to cover her journey of weak to strong. Plot armor is blatant, everything is oh too convenient, and all characters are very hard set predictable.

This reads like an AI summary of an edgy novel. The MC is OP, the villains and supporters are one-dimensional NPCs. With the limited chapters, it feels like the author is checking off wuxia tropes while being chased by evil cultivators.

Spoiler
    • Angsty backstory: All of MC's family got mu*dered, twice.
    • This is a book: How else can MC take the secret treasures meant for the "heroine"
    • Villains are evil: All sect members must torture the MC for no reason.
    • Cheat item: the jade, which has all the pill and manuals.
    • Fake white lotus: Pure girl who everyone loves is actually *gasp* sleeping with all the guys. I think MC actually didn't poison her, the colorless odorless toxin must have been syphilis.
    • Special power: MC alone has the chaos root.
    • Secret heiress: She was actually the heir of a renowned sect, which defeats the whole mortal seeking revenge against cultivators plot
    • Cute animal side kick: the qilin
    • Mentor sacrifice: the white-bearded dude who got introduced then immediately died to save MC. It's alright tho bc she conveniently got a resurrection pill to use on this guy whose name we don't know.

That's not everything I'm just not willing to spend more time writing this review.

Whoa so much action packed into 19 chapters. This one is full of angst, injustice, and hardship. I don’t like how the ending left me hanging.
