"This is really a heart-warming story.I love the MC. She's sweet, cute, and adorable but not s*upid nor dense. I've seen many of this kind of MC which acted dumb and made me gone mad, but this MC is just perfectly balanced. She's kind-hearted, a good girl, but not weak. She's also not that type of superdense MC whose usually in a pack with this cute and adorable traits. She actually notices the little things ML did for her and she knows her importance for him. She's not ignorant of ML feelings either. She knows he has many thorns, but she didn't pried his secrets, only stay by his side and gives him comfort. I think it's much more acceptable than forcing someone to tell you their secrets just because you "care" about them.

Another thing I love about MC is her boldness. Gosh, even ML got beaten by this trait lol. She's not afraid of mostly everything, and she also not shy away of showing her care and affection for ML--she actually treat it as a matter of fact that she behaves that way, because she loves him, it only natural for her to spoil him. It makes ML got embarassed most of the time instead lol. Oh but ML got it back for her on later chapters, he became so shameless leaving MC speechless lol

ML also not the type of genius bad boy who still get the highest ranking despite always skipped classes. It's more realistic how he started from scratch and how bad his grade is that he thought trigonometric as an english form of math lol. It's so sweet that he is willing to work hard for MC just to close the distance between their names on score board. I like how ML's change is instigated by himself, and not forced by anyone including MC.

The supporting characters are also good. But I especially like ML's homeroom teacher. Idk but it really moved me how dedicated he is to guide his bad students despite their ignorance and how he defends ML when other teachers doubted his change and suspect him of cheating. "In the first half, the FL is a klutzy, Bridget Jones Diary type of heroine/undercover spy. FL is a first-rate imperial beauty sent to military/border Prince Jing's estate. She knows that his adopted son (age 18?) is going to be the eventual Emperor of the novel she is living in, so she tries to become the adopted son's wife. (Remember, she's not reborn or transmigrated, she's a historical girl who thinks being Empress Dowager is the highest goal for a woman.)Except she doesn't know the details in the book, so she's often led astray. It's a comedy of errors. She's so transparent, beautiful and brash that no one thinks she has the brains for all the harem scheming going around.

The FL tries to succeed with/impress the adopted son according to the novel's plot (and overturn her own early death in the novel), but she shows her real side to the cold ML Prince Jing (age 24), who slowly falls in love with her very quirky personality.

In the second half, when the FL's family life is established, she reminds me of the wilful, captivating, freely enjoy-my-life-beauty-and-wealth type heroines written by author Butterfly's Shadow Beneath the Moon (like Eight Treasure Trousseau, To Be A Virtuous Wife, I Am This Type of Woman, etc.). The extra epilogue chapters are very cute too.

If you like historical romance novels in Ancient China, you'll like this. Coming from a zombie world where human lives are precious and rare, and Emperor runs around the Capital saving people and wreaking havoc with all the villains' plans.

Because humans have had to evolve in the zombie infested world, Emperor has the ability to heal, talk to animals, and super strength. These powers were ported over with her. Unlike other novels, the Emperor is not all-powerful. She inherits a weakened throne and all the military might is in the villians' hands. How she uses her abilities is part of what makes the story so fun to read.

A lot of the fun in this novel is the Emperor's direct and honest value system - where others try to scheme against her, she just straightforwardly does what is right. The nation has been falling apart and she is there to fix things and help the common people. She discovers the wrongs done by her father, and fixes them.However, because she grew up in an apocalyptic era where life is precious but short, she is very direct. She doesn't have any knowledge of the extensive rites, customs and laws of Ancient China. Unlike the scholars in her court, she didn't spent 10 years studying classic texts. It's because of this that the Supreme Commander (the hero) has to re-word/carry out her orders in a way that everyone else can understand. As the Emperor puts it, enemy zombies are easy to understand. The devious and complex minds of live humans, are difficult for her to decipher. Her heart is in the right place, though.

The other fun part is all the talking animals. There are no secrets in the Imperial Palace when the mice, birds, falcons, cats, etc. are all watching. Even the ants can

The male lead, the Supreme Commander, is an honest, loyal soldier. However, we learn that over the years, the Grand Preceptor's schemes have killed off the Supreme Commander's parents, brothers, and most of the honest and loyal officials in court. Being honest and loyal only led to the Supreme Commander being on the execution grounds. In order to protect the Emperor, the Supreme Commander starts being ethically ambiguous in his dealings. This may be something readers may not be comfortable with. However, when the Emperor learns, she's okay with it for most of the novel.

The best part is the first 70%, when it focuses on the Emperor talking to animals, eating nonstop, and driving her political enemies crazy from the palace with her antics. The focus is on the Emperor, who values human lives, saves people, and her and her entourage rack their brains constantly to outmaneuver and outscheme their enemies in court.

After that, the rebellion/opposition erupts .

It's actually shocking to think back to the beginning and how he was basically a corpse, and realize how far he's come.

The female lead is very bold, which is something I don't see a lot and I appreciate, and has great character development. She's his guiding light and he's her steady support.

If I were to describe their relationship it would be "perfect househusband who intimidates people behind his wife's back" and "inspiring adventurer whose cleverness and kindness get incredible results." They spoil each other.

I love how they both improve and how they support each other's growth. I think they have a very healthy relationship once they get together, and like how they both make friends and have support systems. Also half of the story is just their fluff and dog food lmao.

This doesn't have most of the misunderstandings and drama common in a lot of romances. Though there are certainly one or two characters that try to get between then, they don't doubt each other.

There are quite a few good subplots. It involved some dark stuff but it never felt too heavy, as well as some humor. There are some small questions that never really get answered, but I felt satisfied with the ending. The MTL is pretty good--the only think that's a bit messed up is some of the pronouns.

Overall this story is part fluffy romance, part apocalypse, part alien fantasy, and part superpower au. It has beautiful, subtle themes about recovery, love, human nature, what makes a monster a monster, bettering yourself, and one of my favorites - how powerful kindness can be. " ~ theliongirl

" really loved the plot. The character development of ML was so beautiful. The fact that he slowly learns to love again, was so beautifullly written.

Though the relationship between them develops slowly, it almost felt like natural. The fact that MC started to view there relationship as more then a fan and a bias was also so natural.

OgMC and ogML got what they deserved. I'm not gonna spoil what happens to them, well MC got her revenge in the best way she could.

The novel was so realistic. There was no magic, which I was so glad for. No unnecessary temple shit, no high priest or pope or whatever. The aristocratic society was depicted so well, I fell in love with it. The nature of our MC is also very good. The fact that she becomes a formidable duchess that no one can mess with was also very good.

"3.85/5!!! [Romance, Modern Day, Drama] To be honest, IDK why I read this. I'm usually not fond of modern-day romance novels. Wait, no. I remember, it's because I read one of the author's other works and was curious about how a person who wrote such deep worldbuilding fics would deal with a book for ordinary romance. Turns out, it's still pretty good! Definitely far from my favorite, though that's more a matter of taste. This novel is a lot better than some I've read before for things like character development and plot. ALL IN ALL, This is a novel with a lot of problems. But most of those problems become not so problematic because of the good points. Like, it's not meant to be perfect, so don't take it too seriously. Just enjoy the character angst and drama, as well as the face-slapping against the typical white lotus character.

SUMMARY: The MC of this novel is called Shen Zhen. He's the oldest son of the current master of the Shen family. Until, finally, the MC accidentally slept with someone and was forced away from the Qin family. Just like that, his life was over. He had no future, and before long, he died. The story officially starts at the moment of his rebirth. It's the day he had accidentally slept with someone. But this time, he chose not to leave the Qin family voluntarily. He stuck around, wanting to find a way to officially break off with everyone and establish himself.
