1.5 stars: Super cringe on multiple levels story with a way, waaaay overpowered very, very Mary Sue MC that literally everyone loves and worships and adores because it's genetically instinctual for them to love, worship, adore, protect, pamper, serve and obey him because he is born as their genetic "king". I saw all the reviews saying how cute and fluffy the story was and gave it a shot and boy do I regret it. This is just not the novel for me, though it clearly hits a bullseye with a... more>> lot of people, so your mileage may vary.

The only thing I liked in this story were the beginning zerg who were fully insectoid/beastlike, simplistic, and protectively regarded Gu Huai as a baby. Given that Gu Huai transmigrated into a giant egg and hatched from it looking like an adult human male, I found it super cringeworthy and weird how the other more humanoid zerg treated him like a baby-adult but were still super obsessed with him as adorably cute, to the point that he'd be sitting in a council room full of brutal military generals who are humanoid zerg and they'd all be crowded around staring at him and taking videos of him drinking his milk (since he is technically a baby), and going into a frenzy of cute aggression because some of the milk dripped from the corner of his mouth. Because he's their king, and everything their king does is lovely and adorable and they'll do anything for their king, anything at all, and are determined to pamper and protect him.

Later, Gu Huai can turn into a cutesy fluffy baby zerg, and so can the ML for reasons I no longer remember because my brain leaked out of my ears from secondhand embarrassment and a surfeit of utter cringe. But let's be real, the reason is so that they could be "cute" together as baby fluffy animals.

Everything Gu Huai does is treated with reverence and his every whim and wish is a command to be instantly obeyed, and although he's frequently hesitant and bemused by his position as King of the Vicious Zerg, because he's such a beloved king he has literally no trouble instantly turning them from a violent, aggressive race feared by all into the peacekeeping protectors of the galaxy. All he has to do is tell them not to go around killing people anymore and to protect innocents instead and they are eager to obey.

The ML is super in love with him because Must Love King but also there are other reasons for his blind love and adoration, and the MC is super special for reasons to him. I guess it was fluffy, as so many other reviews have said, but it's all fluff and no substance.

Later on, as if not already OP enough, Gu Huai develops like SSSSSSSSS-level psychic powers on top of everything else. The scene is incredible. In a super bad cringe-y way.

Multiple times I almost dropped this story but my morbid curiosity and masochism compelled me to continue reading (more like skimming) because my god, how much worse could it get? And the answer was: A lot worse. Even more worse. It can always get worse.

It got an extra half star from me for those simplistic animalistic zerg. The way they looked out for Gu Huai was genuinely kind of cute. Maybe they were cuter because the rest of the novel was so awful. Otherwise this was definitely a 1-star. <<less

I'm shocked that I wasn't able to leave a review right away. (I thought I already did.)

This is an alternate universe. (the expansion of the story of the King's Game) there might be some similarities with it at first but as the story goes on, it's much more developed.

The MC and ML's story still touches me. This novel is just pure sweetness and fluff.

... more>> It's the kind that'll leave you warm for a long time. I've already re-read this for the nth time.

All I can say is that: "I CAN NO LONGER VIEW THE ZERGS THE SAME WAY EVER AGAIN."

Whenever I read other novels depicting the Zergs as cold-blooded and cruel, I think about this novel and I was like: "..... The Zergs are cute...." (It just has that effect to me.)

Really, I had to plant myself face first on my bed just to stop the feels. It's too heartwarming.

I'm healed.

Try to give this novel a shot. <<less

If you already read 'The King's Game' and you love the Zerg arc, this novel is definitely for you. Same story but has more chapters and profound plot.

This novel is a standalone version of the Zerg arc from The King's Game.

The summary is pretty accurate. The only thing it doesn't tell you is how goddamn adorable this story is. I've only read like one other novel with Zergs (the species that the MC reincarnated as) in them so it was a bit hard to picture them, but they were written so cute here??? Although they're described as vicious, cold monsters, they're so soft for the MC. He's their precious treasure, their baby king, and all they think... more>> about is how to protect him from the whole universe and how to make him happy and comfortable, and as someone who grew up in a welfare home in his previous life, the MC is all for receiving their parental love despite being an adult both physically and mentally.

Update:

I made a mistake. I couldn't hold myself back from reading the Zerg arc of The King's Game because I was curious about the ML and if the MC had any Zerg characteristic and let me tell you guys IT WAS THE WORST THING I COULD HAVE DONE. THE STORY WAS NICE AND FLUFFY AND FREAKING AWESOME BUT I HOPE THIS ONE DOESN'T GO IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THAT ONE BECAUSE MY HEART WON'T BE ABLE TO TAKE IT. I CRIED.

Update:

So it went in that direction.

I cried again. <<less

This novel is really good! My only dissatisfication is not having enough. As known by the other comments and readers who've read a really similiar work, this novel is indeed the extension of The King's Game's first arc. Long story short, Gu Huai (MC, same name different person from The King's Game) who's an orphan that became numerous award-winning screenwriter suddenly got transmigrated as a Zerg King. So, it begins, the fluffy story of a mutual caring (& kinda healing) by the former orphan Zerg King and his family (Zergs).

Of... more>> course, there's ML as well. If you've read The King's Game, The People Who're Supposed To Kill Me Fell For Me Instead, Everyone Knows I'm a Good Person (last arc, especially) or such novels with incredibly adorable MLs and you like it, then you'll definitely like this one as well.

Also, those who gave this low stars because they're apparently dissapointed that this isn't suspenseful/ dramatic, the MC's not cool, domineering, OP, and stuff... I just wanna say, please make it a habit to read the tags before reading, and did the description deceive you? How could that be? It was clearly written that the "Zergs saw him as a baby" & he felt "pressured". This indicates:

1. This story's fluffy.

2. The MC has a soft (towards kindness & persuasion from loved ones) and kind personality.

3. Which means, not much bloodshed, drama, and the likes.

4. Once more, READ THE TAGS BEFORE READING SO YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE A FOOL BEING DECEIVED BY YOUR OWN PERCEPTION AND UNREASONABLY GAVE HATE COMMENTS. This stands for every novels, mangas, manhwas, manhuas, animes, and other such works. Seriously, how could you blame the novel for your own mistakes of not checking carefully. Since you didn't check the tags, you shouldn't blame others, it's clearly your own fault and no one else's. <<less

Look, is it genuinely a 5 star novel? No - it doesn’t have the quality, plot, or depth to justify that rating. But at some point after your 4th or so reread you reach a point where you just have to admit that there are some things that are so damn likeable, healing, and easy to consume that you should just throw a 5 star rating at it and be done for the day. This novel is exactly that.

Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against the story. The plot is ok, this is sweet and fluffy.

My problem is with the yaoi tag. Why write a BL if you have no idea about what is romance or love? Does it sell better?

ML: I want to monopolize MC = love = let's pursue him

... more>> MC: I should say no, but ML is too cute, can't bear to disappoint him = love = let's accept all he wants

MC and ML are innocent beings who feel some fleetings things while interacting with each other. Deduce after some time, it must be love and should cutely and shyly explore this mutual love. Of course, there are no actual feelings in the novel, you don't feel anything, apart from the fact you've already read numerous chinese "BL" with the exact same development. There is no witnessing of romance that make your heart react, just the same steps in the "relationship" that all this kind of stories have but can't seem to make you feel.

I'm so tired of these stories which seem to be written on the same mould. <<less

I don't usually leave reviews, and I dont know how to do it, so I'll the main things that I think when I remember reading this novel: this is extremely fluffy, the extras are really interesting (I dont usually like extras tbh) and I have never seen the zerg portrayed like this so it was very interesting too
Also, if you want to know if it has a HE or not:
Spoiler

Yes, it has a Happy Ending, maybe there's a little bit of angst at the end but everything will be alright

I died from blood loss because of the fluff a was resurrected also because of the fluff. This cycle repeated over and over again until the very last chapter of the story.

This is my first time writing a review and I normally don't write one, but I really feel that I should give credits to both the author and the translator for the joy they have given, because of this novel through this review.

The plot of this novel wasn't very deep, there are also no action or face slapping like... more>> in other novels. This story, I can describe by: pure, heart warming and cute. Personally, I think those words were not enough, but that is mainly how I can describe this novel.

Spoiler

The story is mainly about the MC being born in another world as a zerg. In many novels with interstellar themes, zergs are the natural enemy of humans and other interstellar species. They are always describe as cruel on this stories and always have a bad end.

However, this story will change your world view and make you separate the word cruel from the word zerg and instead attached it to the word cute.

The zergs on this story are completely different from the usual zergs that we know. This zergs know how to feel emotions, and knows the word protect, and that word mainly applies to our MC who become their king.

The story mainly focuses on the MC changing the other people's opinion towards the zergs who become his family and establishing connection with the other races.

The romance isn't lacking either and it's a very sweet one, sweet enough to give you cavities and diabetes and like me who died and resurrected again and again due to blood loss.

All in all this is a must read especially if your a fluff lover or just some passerby. This will bring healing to yourself? <<less

When I thought that the MC is a zerg, my mind keep thinking the appearance because almost all the interstellar story, the zerg is insect from head to toe.

But since the zerg in this novel is human like, I almost disregard that MC is a zerg lol.

Yet that's not the point! The point is, it's cute and fluffy! Their skin is tough but their interaction is fluffy. This novel more like child rearing lol. The romance is kinda side story in my point of view.

Don’t take this as offensive if you like this novel. Definitely cute for immature audience, not for people who like to read well-written novel.

I think it is written by a teenager and probably the initial work of the author when they don’t understand what is love. Just put together different cute thoughts into a story. I wouldn’t suggest to read if you are looking for well-written novel.

4.5⭐ (2nd read!)

This story is full of warmth. I cried a lot in the early chapters (and a few times towards the end; blame my shallow tear ducts).

The MC's relationship with his parent Zergs is very touching. Despite being low-grade Zergs with minimum intelligence, their behavior, actions, and care for MC moved me to tears. I still vividly recall their sadness and reluctance when they're about to send MC away for him to live in a better, more beautiful planet instead of staying in a deserted planet with them.... more>> *sob* It's so sad. That's the genuine love of the parents! It's far better than the romance between the main couple (lol).

Honestly, what hook me into reading this novel isn't the romance or the plot, but the sincerity between the MC and his Zergs, whether with his parent Zergs, capital planet Zergs, or those from the Grey Tower.

As the king, the MC loves and cherishes his Zergs dearly and treats them with great gentleness. And in response, all the Zergs reciprocate that feeling and present him with unwavering loyalty, creating an atmosphere that is exceptionally warm and loving, which deeply touches my heart.

In contrast, I found it hard to connect with the ML. Although his past is equally heartbreaking, I'm just... not so fond of him (sorry, a man with a stoic demeanor and possessive qualities is really not my cup of tea 🥲). Nevertheless, he and the MC do make an endearing couple, and their interactions in the extras are adorable.

I would recommend anyone looking for a light-hearted story to give this novel a try. <<less

What a great read. This is the perfect story to read when you need to just shut your brain down and enjoy a fluffy brain massage. Didn't expect to love the MC and ML this much either.

Not sure if I'll read King's Game as I am more than satisfied with this story. From what I've read, this story is an expansion of the first arc. While I am in love with these characters, as well as this concept, seeing the MC going through several worlds and experiencing these things is... more>> not as appealing as being immersed in this one world, if that makes sense, at least for now. So keeping KG on the back burner for now. <<less

I didn't expect a full of fluff novel to have a damn good explicit s*x scene, but I have nothing to complain about. Highly satisfied. LOL sorry but I just had to do an honorary mention on that...

This novel is something you read after a breakup, failing your exam, getting scolded on work, etc. You get what I'm trying to say. MC was 'misunderstood' since he's mentally and physically an adult, yet because he just 'hatched' soooo the zergs thought of him as a baby thus pampering him to the... more>> heavens. It was really too funny yet heartwarming at the same time! They love MC so so much, too much that it becomes overwhelming and they go overboard at times. But that's the charm of this novel. Just read it, honestly. It's great T__T <<less

Dropped. I know this is crazy but I just disliked first, the two humans existence in the novel and their role in that misunderstanding and second, how nothing happened to them basically and how nice he the MC was to them for his diplomatic strategy.

Then I know, crazy, but for some reason I didn't like his diplomatic strategy with the human officers and it's what made me want to drop it.

Also ultimately if it's about not being human, f*ck I'm pretty disappointed that the plot had to add humans in... more>> the mix as soon as the author could... it's probably just me but it annoys me. <<less
