first danmei of the year! been a while since i read an enjoyable UF novel, this really scratched the itch. the instances were all memorable esp the school arc and judgement day. the protagonists have their halo but i liked that the side characters eps all the sclasses were all significant characters. esp no.2, no.3 and no.10 were standouts, loved them all. also i liked how unpredictable the death was sometimes bc it kept the tense atmosphere going despite how unfeeling the mc was. speaking of the main characters, theyre very unique, like sociopaths almost, were downright brutal with each other even during their intimate moments, but hey that works for them. esp esp loved the devil bc of his backstory, the only time i cried. the romance tho,... it starts developing like 80% into the story.. going from slow burn to final showdown living with each other for a year.. so yea when it says enemies to lovers it really means actual enemies who plot to defeat the other throughout the story to lovers who will choose to stay with each other at the end.  <<less

10/10 [complete] a danmei that will stay with me for a long time. a story rooted in reality where it felt like i personally knew... more>> and befriended all the characters. there is so much to love about this story i dont even know where to begin, of all the things i enjoyed the mc is my favorite part.. so so gentle both by nature and nurture by experience by the way life treated him, he made me cry he loves and cares for the few people in his life so devastatingly noticing every little detail about them,, all the characters are so well written, the ml whos so different from first impression, the kids, mc's mother and brother, dudong, came out of this feeling a lot for everyone. esp the CP, their relationship with each other and their kids. their love was so sincere yet bc of their age, so mature and understanding.. how they had responsibilities and yet were accomodating to each other so they could preserve their love for a long time. life happened to them before the start of the novel, and it will continue to happen...  the last letter i need to have it printed <<less

10/10 [reread complete] been wanting to reread qjj for the longest time. just finished volume 1 and its still as beautiful as the day we met. the audio drama is sooo good too, i cant multitask so ive been listening to it after i finish the chapters. [update] took me so long and somehow i love it more, probably the combination of being able to catch the foreshadowing but also get surprised occasionally since it had been a while. while cezhou is still my favorite part about the story, i was able to appreciate the sidecharacters and their relationships and development a lot more. i absolutely adore feisheng, his relationship with SZC, the loyalty and... more>> the trust they built over time and also with yin cheng ughh broke my heart, he adores his master and adopted father. SZC's relationship with Yaowenyu and QTY, their friendship and how they know each other like the back of their hand and came to respect eachother. cried the most during their last conversation. QTY and YWY's relationship with each other, i dont think i can ever get over it, i hope theres a side story about their idk reincarnation and spring date i need them to get a happy ending (alt) so bad. UGH cezhou relationship with their families and teachers is the most pivotal part, its so tied in to their characters and the decisions they make. i was focused on the romance and SZC's journey during my first read, but this time i was able to appreciate the side characters and the politics so much more too. the story humanised everyone so well, from amu'er to LJT and XXZ, to empress dowager even though they were antagonists. it didnt feel like a story where you were supposed to be enraged but more like a retelling of dazhou. still one of my favorite danmei, possible my favorite historical danmei of all time. now back to the audio drama. 

Its been days, and i keep thinking about QTY, the heaven really trampled all over him :( from his familys betrayal to him waiting for everyone only to find out they died.. having to kill his friend and his shifu.. and AHDHFHHhhHhhhghhhfhrh  glad QTY atleast has the little kiddo with him :( i hope he heals and reunites with SZC eventually i adore their friendship  <<less

9/10 [completed] i was missing royal road esque kingdom building novels, so im here. the best part is clearly the old married couple dynamic of... more>> the cp, give me more stories of people being domestic and farming and maybe saving a country together. my favorite aspect of the relationship is how they are at ease with eachother, no matter the situation even if theyre surrounded in enemy camp, and this has been constant throughout the story. i love how each arc focuses on different aspect, from farming, business, studying, war, war politics, court politics, yet it feels so seamless. theres only a few major characters to keep track of, and its fascinating seeing how the story takes them, and how ym navigates it. have to say, i love how hes smart yet his bonds with the people he formed throughout the story is never forgotten. the story is still very character focuses rather than letting the plot take the wheel. that aside, i enjoyed the interaction with teacher sun, esp earlier idk the way he imparts knowledge on how to learn, his philosophy was unexpectedly memorable, he really taught ym on how to live. ym's relationship with san dianxia is just as fascinating, i would love extras from the other pov. also have to say the writing is so good it doesnt go out of the way to trick the readers into these huge twists, everyones characterisation informs their decision and nothing comes out of left field. <<less

(update) okay this gives me such sunset boulevard vibes with XZ's unrequited love and how hes so selfless about it, gaahhrh he makes me want to cry hes burdened by life and his life is just one endurance after another :((( he wont ask for anything from LHY even though hes ready to give anything to him, professional yearner. this cp is personification of the moon and the tides.

(update) completed. this was enjoyable, even the tropes that i was dreading was fine enough. a few personal criticisms: i would've loved to see LHY's POV post-time skip, also there should've been a few more chapters where we got to see them together. That aside, this was a solid read, from good romance, good character writing and good side characters. a few more chapters would've made this wouldve been a 9.  <<less

ML idk what to feel about him till everything is cleared up. going to read the manhua as a continuation since it seems like it adapted p most of the novel. (update) screaming crying throwing up okay alright he won me over, not to say i doubted ML's love but my dude is so desperate f*ck his family, like yea he was really immature (and still is) and hid a lot of things, hurt MC bc of it but he also hurt himself just as much (or even more) bc of it, hes at fault but he was punished enough let this baby heal and be happy :( gotta say one of my favorite thing about the CP is that while theyre not a switch couple, its always MC who has the upperhand and is the more 'dominating' one outside of bed lmao <<less

the story is so good bc you start with preconceived notion of unrequited love only to find out the moon has been looking back the whole time. i tried the manhua for a few chs and the mc comes off innocent and happy go lucky, which hes that BUT i adore the novel version bc hes so much more. hes not a goody two shoes, if anything id say hes green tea adjacent lmao he will obtain the moon, he will get what was rightfully his. also yang duole didn't know anything either so cant begrudge him for living a life he was brought into, but if taoxi is resentful i wouldnt blame him either, his life is hard enough as it is but i like that he also admits that his life was still better in some aspect (health), i love this child. the ml is just as good, lqh's restrained but selfless love for taoxi and the more you read the more you realise hes been looking back the whole time, giving everything to taoxi but never revealing it bc he doesn't want gratitude or feeling of debt, he wants taoxi to walk alongside him proud and free :((((  

(update) i have to say i hate all the adults in this story from the biological family, adopted family and lqh's family, its f*cked up how they treated these kids. i dont blame taoxi, lqh or even lele's resentment (except for that plagiarism arc) towards their families or even eachother, its bc thats how they were raised, but the fact that they were so absent and were haunted by fengsui's ghost in every aspect of their parenting that they never saw the kids for who they were is f*cked up. the only part that wasn't satisfying about this was lele's conclusion, wym the people who raised him just let him leave (note: he also had terrible health) after they found out they werent related ???? im a huge advocate for adopted kids, so that plot line soured this novel for me, like i said i dont blame the kids but the family elders continue to f*ck it up. <<less
