On the run from the government despite being one of the most successful and attractive alphas in the entire League, Chen Boqiao unexpectedly has to spend time with Zhang Jue, one of his admirers from middle school. As they get to know each other better, he realizes that Zhang Jue seems to still have feelings for him after all these years. However, was Zhang Jue really an alpha as he had always claimed?

Why is it that Colonel Chen, who has made great achievements in the war, has been jailed and sentenced to death? Is it true that he conspired with the enemy and reneged on the country and killed his father for profit, as reported in the news?

In an expected jail delivery, an unexpected person appeared.

The former alumnus, Zhang Jue, who had confessed love to Chen Boqiao once, gave him a chance-of- a-lifetime on the pretext of unlocking a gene lock.

Zhang Jue– meek, timid, humble, and honest.

Chen Boqiao– with fortitude, prideful, gentleman, alienation.

After all the changes in Bangkok, they began to understand and slowly fall in love with each other.

Only 1 review?! Man, this is such a good novel!

Chen Bo Qiao is a calm and gentle person. Zhang Jue on the other hand seems cold to others but is able confidently do his work well (like arranging to rescue CBQ from his jail delivery). Towards CBQ, ZJ is very reserved and fumbled a lot with his words and actions.

The early part of the story makes my pained my heart. Because ZJ's unrequited love for CBQ is so humble - he doesn't insist on things and always silently pour out... more>> his care towards CBQ. Even if in return he gets so little, he would still treasure anything and everything and be happy with it.

The later part of the story got a bit sweeter because things developed with ZJ. CBQ is very observant and knows exactly what ZJ is thinking. Some readers were scolding him at first but I think it's because he's also a virg*n at love. He is definitely very gentle towards ZJ and never force him to do anything. He asks first before everything which shows how respectful he is. Even with the car scenes, it was very well written and you don't feel "dirty" - it's so loving.

This novel really warms my heart very much. The ending was well done including the extras. This novel does not have those big ups and downs of love/hate but it's the tiny interactions, flashbacks that makes it very memorable and I felt so much happiness radiating from the couple.

P.S. CHEN BO QIAO IS A REAL MAN. RESPECT. <<less

The best thing about this novel is that it was an ABO setting that wasn't centered about gender gap, s*x, and other stereotypical cliches like how powerful alphas are, how delicate omegas are, and how boring it is to be a beta. Sure, there are some flaws if you want to nitpick. But the whole vibe is so warm and I love how the author treated them like a normal couple and didn't insert some weird dogblood bs.

Beware though, ZJ's pining can be so painful to read. There are no... more>> waterworks here or angsty prose waxing on and on about his love. Still, the simplicity and directness of how it was displayed to readers had me yelling "NOOOOOO" every time he hurt 😭 But CB was in the end all worth it, and I really like how the story showed little by little how his feelings progressed.

I guess I would've liked it more if it also showed why ZJ was so infatuated with him in their youth, but it's also not unrealistic because sometimes it really just takes one smile to fall into the pit and never get back up. <<less

So I decided to read this book after reading some of the reviews and here's my two cents.

I understand that the book was about unrequited love and its fulfillment in the end but I really couldn't stomach some things that happened in the book. Not that I was angry or anything just very uncomfortable. An example will be the first time they had s*x, CBQ did it out of pity and it was so mechanical almost cold even, and when ZJ cried into the sheets I felt helpless for him.... more>> Also the Unexplained hostility pei shu had for the MC and how the ML never really addressed it or admonished him.

ZJ character is cold on the outside but warm to his family and his friends, people who love him but what I didn't like was that when he was with CBQ he was too humble. His unrequited love humbled him to the extent that it wiped clean his self confidence and assertiveness as an alpha (or at least someone who has lived as one for a time). His entire world was CBQ and he didn't expect anything back, it made me sad to see sometimes. The fact that he actually got his alpha glands removed later so he could remain with CBQ irked me so bad, although CBQ never asked for it.

I actually started the book with an open mind and even faintly expecting a lot from the ML but I was sorely disappointed. Tbh even after I got to the end there was no evidence that CBQ loved ZJ back, it was almost as if he was going along with everything due pity, empathy and probably some amount of lust. He always let ZJ make the first move and take the initiative and never once did he do the same, it's so absurd. Also the part where he'd turn his face away when ZJ tried to kiss him just to tease him and see his crestfallen appearance made my stomach turn.

All in all this was a story about unrequited love, that to me still felt unrequited even with the so called happy ending. Even if one is to say that CBQ actually does love ZJ, it doesn't come close to even a quarter of the intense feelings ZJ harboured for more than a decade and even required psychotherapy at some point to help him forget so he could move on.

I actually wish ZJ found his happiness with someone else or that this was a BE lol. <<less

This novel has everything I ever wanted. It's omevagerse but they start a relationship because they're genuily interested in eachother, not because some bullsh*t pheromone compatibility. A hot military ML. A shou that wants it just as much (if not more in the beginning) as his gong. An alpha who asks for permision to "help" an omega in heat. A gentle and caring ML and a sweet MC who will do anything for his man. No misunderstandings and no dog blood plots. And a heartwarming happy end.

Really good. In my opinion it's a mature story compared to most BL novels. CB, the seme truly embodies action speak louder than words with the way he shows his love and care to ZC.

To be honest, CB may seem like an as*hole at first to ZC but as you progress you can truly see that the way he treats ZC is very different compared to others who pursue him. Moreover, since the beginning he treated their relationship seriously.

Spoiler

Starting when he officially asked ZC to "try" their relationship out

[collapse]

In my opinion, I think in the end CB is seriously as in love with ZC as ZC loves him.

Spoiler

For example, during ZC pregnancy, when ZC is about to give birth he experienced severe blood loss. When he awakens, CB is by his side and soon after CB directly just did vasectomy to himself in order to prevent the pregnancy to occur again and ZC in pain.

[collapse]

This is especially recommended for people who like a pair where one is very insecure like Chu Wanning x confident like Mo Ran. If you also like stories with unrequited to requited love and one sided pining (till reciprocated) this is recommended for you. It is written in third person POV, also it is not exactly seme protagonist as the story is written from both of their perspectives.

The story is also very angsty, it is very slow burn and the angst is moreso on ZC's insecurities than the common trope of misunderstandings. It focuses more on the relationship between both characters than the plot itself. <<less

★★★★☆ [4/5 stars]

This is just a short novel that I've read in one sitting. I can't say that this is angsty but I got a tinge of pain in my heart a few times because of Zhang Jue's selfless, unrequited love. For years, he kept his feelings to himself and never asked anything. He never expect anything in return. It's painful to see him that way, especially when he has a little self-esteem and he always looked down on himself.

I understand why most of the readers got a mixed feelings... more>> towards Chen Boqiao at the first half because of how he handled Zhang Jue's feelings for him, because I sometimes felt frustrated too. But I can also understand that he also haven't fallen in love ever and he's trying to figure out his real feelings for Zhang Jue without being influenced by Zhang Jue's feelings for him. Their romance is kind of slow burn, but you can see how Chen Boqiao slowly falls in love with his introverted ex-schoolmate and how he dealt with it.

This novel has no spectacular plot lines, but focused more on how the two cultivated their relationship. This is worth the read and you'll be introduced to a precious character you wanted to protect at all cost. Throughout my time reading, I just want to boost Zhang Jue's confidence and tell him how precious he is and he's perfect the way he is. I recommend this novel to everyone. Just a reminder that it has mature contents. It won't waste your time because even if you ended up not liking this, it only has 51 chapters and can be read in one sitting. But I'm pretty sure that even if you didn't end up loving this, you won't hate this as well. Try reading this one and judge for yourself! <<less

This is a must-read story of unrequited love that hits your heart and evokes all your sympathy. A bittersweet story that has a happy ending, this story will definitely give you the feels.

Zhang Jue has an enduring and patient love for Chen Boqiao who was simply not interested in any romantic relationships at the time of Zhang Jue’s confession. However, after spending time together and overcoming challenges under intense conditions, Chen Boqiao gets to really know Zhang Jue.

The translation is fantastic but ongoing. I couldn’t wait for the translation to... more>> finish so ended up reading the rest of the novel using my mediocre Chinese reading skills and machine translation. Highly highly recommend this novel! <<less

I thought this was a very nice story. Some angst but not too much, the story moved quickly and kept me interested. The two main characters were well developed, important since most of the scenes involved just the two of them, and their actions stayed true to their personalities in the main.

I actually liked that this was a modern setting but an alternate universe because it took out all the current context of countries that sometimes gets in the way for me.

There were a few times when the characters withheld... more>> information instead of communicating, but that was in the early chapters. There were several times when the author could have increased the dog's blood by not having one or either character state the obvious but chose to have them talk to each other instead and move the plot with other means. That was very refreshing. There was one point where I was worried the ML was going to let the MC go on his way and spring a big surprise that would hurt him, but the author instead revealed it and went with the ML now having to confront unexpected feelings for the MC instead. Very nice.

Even before the ML figured out that he really cared for the MC I thought he was generally gentle (though there was definitely some mild bullying at first) and I liked how he started to encourage the MC to not belittle himself so much.

A nice story. Worth the read. <<less

Sweet story. Probably more a 4-4.5 star novel, but I gave it full marks since I couldn't find any real flaws in the story.

It's interesting to see the romance unfold. For the longest time I worried about the MC and his seemingly hopeless love for the ML, who's never had time for romance and has never fallen in love or had s*x before - the ML in the first part seemed thoughtless and careless towards the MC, who he new had deep feelings for him. Fortunately

Spoiler

The ML was never playing around with the MC, but just needed some time to fall for him and learn how to be in a relationship, especially with a partner who had very low self-esteem.

[collapse]

It's somewhat slow burn and despite the premise it's not what I'd call an exciting plot, since it mainly focus on the interactions between the MC and ML. It's a nice story though if you want something relatively short and heartwarming, and the ending is sweet.

Self-sacrificing shou and calm, doting gong. <<less

Wow... This was an uncomfortable read. Smut wasn't that good either.

It's an unrequited story where at the very least I thought the ML would one day run after the MC, and where they would feel like equals.

But reading other reviews, and also reading the first 19 chapters, the ML is really manipulative and abusive, and it feels a lot like he LIKES that the MC is at his beck and call and blindly devoted to him. The MC makes use of his devotion, and he treats him in such a... more>> mixed signal way...

And then when he does the bare minimum and treat him remotely decently, it's like we're supposed to be rejoicing??? No cause what kinda emotional abuse...

It really made me uncomfortable. It's the fact that the story treats this, and narrates this, in such an impartial, cold way, when clearly what is going on here feels a lot like abuse. If not abuse, such hot and cold, cryptic, hard to read behavior and motivations feel psychopathic, actually. what does this author want to convey exactly?

Anyways. Based on reading other reviewers who have finished the novel, It seems there are mixed reviews on if the ML even REALLY loves the MC at the end of the story.

ALSO, the smut wasn't even that good. It was just as cold and mechanical as the narration and ML. Did not finish. <<less

I really had a hard time completing this novel. ZJ is a character that personally I didn’t like, his lack of confidence and self-steem was so frustrating, and there wasn’t any character development anywhere. And CBQ isn’t any better, he was a douche for most part of the novel, it wasn’t until the last chapters that he started being less sc*m. I don’t know why he thought that someone with such lack of confidence like ZJ would understand his actions we’re out of love when he said hurtful things to... more>> him before to keep distance and don’t give him any expectations. I really don’t know why they described him as “gentle” when he was so cold, distant and mean with ZJ, he didn’t even considered ZJ feelings most of the time and ZJ didn’t even dare to bother him with his negative feelings, didn’t dare to even say he was angry or sad and that never changed! What is this? Romanticizing a relationship with a docile/“tamed”/not confident person and an arrogant/cold/self centered person <<less

This is probably the best ABO I’ve read in a while. I don’t really want to go too in depth with a review, but I’d recommend it. It was short and sweet and i’ll be the first to admit that I cried way to many times for Zhang Jue.

I also hate that the MC’s friends kind of disappeared after serving their purpose of furthering the ml’s feelings and making him jelly.

The extras were kind of underwhelming, wished to see more about the bubby and maybe the relationship between Ai Jaixi... more>> (?) and ZJ once he was preggers, but we move on.

4.5 high end. <<less

The story has a happy ending but I just felt the whole story got a bittersweet feeling. It felt taxing emotionally to read it, but in a good way.... I don't know how to really explain it but it got a bitter aftertaste..

Anyway loved it and enjoyed reading it, plus the translator did an amazing job...❤️

Such a heartwarming story, the love between MC and ML is really endearing, I felt for the ML the most, the way he silently loves and cares without really knowing to express it into words or actions, his clumsiness whenever he tries to carefully approach the MC while still hesitating, his bewilderement whenever he gets outcomes that surpass his expectations that he had snuffed deep in their bud, his lack of self-assurement in his love, he's such a meek but strong character still, the author really did such a fantastic... more>> job portraying such a character and bringing him into life. How the MC notices all of the ML's insecurities and silent struggles, and tries to give reassurement whilst not giving false hope or expectations from the start is so endearing, he manages to pick out all of the good qualities of the ML and understand him without exposing him, and comes to love him for all of it including the careful and reluctant approaches of the ML. <<less

I was a little hesitant to read because I'm not sure of reading books with an all sacrificing MC but I'm glad I read this one. It's a good combination of plot+smut. The translations chef's kiss. And man the lack of self-confidence of the MC made my heartache.

About the story

Spoiler

it's not really made clear what made the MC fall so in love with ML. We didn't really get any backstory of MC and ML during their college days. That would have added depth to the MC's perspective of the ML and why he loves him so much. But man I love how gradually the ML fell in love with the MC. I can't even pinpoint the exact moment that happened lol. People are calling him mean but I understand where he is coming from. It's difficult for people who come from broken home's to accept romantic relationships easily. And I knw no matter how much Chen Boqiao loves Zhang Jue, it's always going to seem less infront of Zhang Jue. CB never asked for ZJ to go through any of the pain he went through and it is quite painful. I do believe CB was genuine later on and I came to like him as the story progressed.

Reason it’s 3.5/5

In my opinion, it felt a bit dull. There was a couple parts of the story I didn’t understand. The characters are a bit emotionless. I feel like it’s just me who didn’t really resonate with those story.

I did like how they did the ABO. 👌
