Edit 1: Read it until c151 the second time round and felt that the e-sports portion is…draggy. If you really like e-sports/ sports anime/manga style, competition format etc., you will probably like it. I’m a bit eh on it so I’ll drop it. A bit disappointing that the author just…pushes the romance aside near the middle for the sake of e-sports entirely. IDK it just gives me a cheap cop out feel and I don’t feel like pushing onward or investing more time just to get to the romance I was promised.

The story and romance between the MC and ML is done very well though, the past and present is interweaved satisfyingly and their happy ending is well-deserved. It’s a short and sweet read I tend to go back to after crazy, convoluted, complex novels. <<less

So…this book is really 80% description of food and 20% plot. Ok maybe 70:30? Anyways, the point is that this is a really simple story. I find the premise of a world where culinary arts are lost due to war intriguing, and I appreciate the author not hand waving it entirely. It can get tedious to read because after a while, the writing gets plain, with the author simply writing down what is happening. The pacing is ok tho, which is why I finished this. A brainless, ‘feel-good’ read. Also the translation is really good!

Oh yeah, there is a part in the middle about eating bugs that weirded me out so beware of that if you can’t stomach it (ehe. Get it? Cuz the book is all about food-)

And yeah, that’s about it. This book isn’t for everyone and some may think it’s a waste of time reading it, which I would think is justified. If you have nothing to read, I think there are worse books with more thoughtless writing out there than this. <<less
