The tags are a little misleading. This novel is more slow burn romance, with a convenient backstory of esports. Even if you added up all the esports scenes I don’t think they can fill a chapter.

ML and MC’s interactions are cute, but it’s not memorable. And the novel had pretty bad pacing. After chapter 15 when ML and MC met in real life, there was a lot of scenes where MC is running off doing acting/variety show gigs or cooking for ML which is sweet but doesn’t add value to... more>> the plot. And ML showing off the presents that MC gets for him which again sweet but saying it once is enough. It’s to the point where I’m not sure what is the author’s end goal. All the scenes could have been written in the extras. I would have preferred to see more of ML competing and MC fanboying (since that’s the whole premise of the novel) and slowly converting into an admirer. Because right now I’m convinced ML loves MC but MC only treats ML as an idol. <<less

Was camping out for good esports novels. I tried to endure since not everyone is good at world building ang all that jazz. Let me emphasize that I read it on a surface level disregarding all the esport stuff since it was in the warning yes? Redacted cause they think my expectations are over the roof when I read this lmao.

My main point on this is that plastic surgery shaming was too much. I'm petty I know fight me. I think the scenes would still be okay without the MC... more>> shaming others for getting plastic surgery just because he has a plot armor where he's conveniently more handsome and good looking than other people.

And his sister actually calling Glutinous Rice illiterate cause most esport players are drop out. Oh No. Once again I'm petty so fight me.

It was already a surface level read where you have to leave your brain at the door but boy oh boy oh boy. It was overall rude for me, cause I'm petty F.i.g.h.t.m.e.

I'm surprised no other people pointed it out, but maybe it's because I'm petty (I will keep on emphasizing this why yes of course). Anyways. It was a tough pill to swallow. Would never try to reread again. Efforts are recognized though.

And for a troll, I make damn good points you completely missed all the points I made, yes? <<less

Overall pretty cute, but nothing special. Not much depth to the characters or the writing itself - everything sort of happens and although it's all logically placed, it lacks the element of surprise or intrigue. If you're looking for a story to read through without much (or any) thinking, this is it.

It is majorly focused on our couple's romance journey. One thing led to another and their feelings develop. Sometimes I feel they have their own little world. Not much depth. Our MC and ml, including his sister is omnipotent that puts others looking like they're beneath average :<

No coming out to the parents and no coming out to the masses. They didn't find out who the tyrannic spender is. It's up to our imaginations how the sister and the kid will develop. It's also up to us to imagine that... more>> someday fans would just gather too much sugar and/or connect the dots and unearth their relationship. Other characters also wasn't shown much, and if there is an interaction or a separate gc or some care from the MC, the ML would act domineering. Sometimes I feel the MC has brains and sometimes it goes offline. Kudos to his manager. Some characters and situations are just there to push along the plot. Got a little tired in the middle. Didn't think there would be an easter egg - a little nsfw. It was an okay short read. To pass the time. Chill with not much thinking required. :≫ Thank you! It's a 1/5 <<less

It’s actually pretty cute. A fluffy story so if you’re looking for something deep, skip this but if you’re looking to just enjoy yourself reading an uncomplicated plot, go read this one.

It really has its own good points!

E-sports and entertainment circle are only background in this novel and the focus lies with the romance. This story is a bit fast paced and skips a lot. The writing itself is good and the MC and ML are likeable.

Just an ok read for in-between.

Fine

Not a masterpiece but it can be nice to read once

Had some typical issues that I'm not gonna bother nitpicking.
It's only 35 chapters, don't think too much while reading

Spoiler

also one thing that happens when MC and ML are getting to know eachother is MC bakes cupcakes for all 5 team members but ML decides to eat them all and lies to his team and also when MC asks how the others liked it ML lies and said they don't like sweets and I guess that type of situation happens occasionally in webnovels but I was thinking how it would be weird and a huge red flag if someone did that irl, definitely rubs me the wrong way

[collapse]

E-sports is used as a background setting, it's much more romance focused

Really cute story. I like how both are excelling in their field of choice - lot of equality in the relationship. I thought it was adorable that they're actually fans of each other.

Towards the end though, the story lost some of its momentum I thought. The extras were nice though!

Not too bad. It's an okay novel, nothing special.

There's a good amount of fluff between the MC and the ML. No angst, no dog blood drama and no character development or whatsoever, so if you're looking for something with strong plot, then this is definitely not for you. Also, don't expect a lot of eSport scene since the author kinda mentioned that it's not the main point of the story.

Also, ... more>>

wondering what's their parents reaction to their relationship, when MC's mom kinda pushing ML to MC's sister. Oh well, there's no way to know the answer.

Short and sweet! A lot of hehehe moments and some butterflies.

Putting aside our loveable MC’s slightly odd reaction to ML’s younger chuunibyou self (wouldn’t a hard headed teen be dejected/embarrassed—not turn into ML’s biggest fan?) the rest of it was very well executed tropes and plot points.

Very satisfying. Kind of wish it were twice the length with their romance build up fleshed out and their acting/gaming careers more in-depth, but it still works as a short & sweet novel.

Enjoyed the fluff. Wished there were more smut lol. Would re-read in... more>> a blink. <<less

The translator did a really excellent job on this one. Sure, there are still some occasional typos but they're not grammar errors, just misspellings. This is my second time reading the whole thing all the way through, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

I’ve read so many danmei and other types of BL (untold thousands if including manga etc), and there were many good authors that wrote some outstanding stuff. But this short piece of fluff is one that I like to recall with a lot... more>> of fondness and remember many of the scenes with better clarity than any of the more famous works even after a couple years. I really like sweet fluff! Moreover, it's an e-sports fluff fest too, and e-sports is one of my fave sub-genres of danmei novels.

This site lists 35 chapters but the translator's site (Chrysanthemum Garden) has uploaded 2 more chapters of extras — one about the side BG CP (shou's sister x cute youth trainee), and one is the full NSFW version of the pool smut scene that was on Weibo (apparently author posted it upside down LMAO).

Caveats about the brief smut scene:

Spoiler

As far as a BL smut scene goes, the writing isn't that good, so I'm not sure I'd recommend that chapter to readers who are used to reading better quality smut scenes elsewhere! Gong says some awkward lines during s*x that gave me acute second-hand embarrassment for both the shou and the author hahahaha.

[collapse]

The reason the chapters aren't listed on NU is that those 2 chapters are protected by the CG's password that's changed weekly on their discord. For anyone curious about that, CG has been suffering from thieves who post their translations on aggregator sites, so they're trying to avoid this by locking the majority of their translations' chapters behind a password. The password is updated every Friday, the specific time listed on the password lock message that appears when you try to access a locked chapter (my timezone is at 8 am).

My fave character: Lin Xizhou, because he's a little silly white sweet (but not a white lotus) that makes you want to hug him in every single chapter.

My least fave character: Hong-jie, his manager, who comes off as a little too controlling even though you know the way she acts/speaks is in Lin Xizhou's "best interest". But I really don't like how she insists that his fans wouldn't be interested in his real personality or hobbies. Is it that difficult to imagine fans who admire an actor who is good at both acting and gaming, as well as having a more three-dimensional personality? Fans are human beings, and normal humans know that actors are also human. Yet we still like our idols despite their quirks, as long as those quirks don't involve criminal activity! Isn't BTS a great example of that? They post all sorts of sh*t on their social media and fans eat it up. The fact that ARMY has the opportunity to see the "real" idol's behavior, personalities, and foibles is what makes BTS so interesting to a lot of people globally. When you think about it, Hong-jie is kind of s*upid in her shortsightedness... but it's just a short novel after all, so I shouldn't be so picky lmao. <<less

I put chapter 21 for progress instead of the end because that's when I realized I was about halfway through and I was starting to force myself to continue, so I skimmed the rest. But still putting down 21st chapter because that's where I know I read every word and I wanna be honest in my reviews.

I saw another reviewer aptly calling this an "in-between" novel. Excellent way to describe it!

This is a light-hearted slice of life modern day romance story with a bit of e-sports on the side. No... more>> complicated plot, no deep characterisatin, no dog blood drama.

I like the way the author doesn't take itself too seriously and uses two of my favourite tropes: identity p*orn and black-bellied/yandere ML. The identity p*orn trope is used well enough without absolutely ridiculous narrative devices as I've seen in Online Dating Girlfriend Turn Into Brother. While the yandere ML trope is very, very light and mostly leads to comedic effects, which is perfectly in tune with the overall mood of the story. I liked this savviness a lot.

I didn't like the fact that there's no e-sports-related plot like in I Can Do It or FOG, and that some inconsequential scenes are described to excruciating, useless details (for example the ML returning to the base at the beginning of ch 20), while scenes that I thought were crucial for the story were glossed over (their first match together/their second match together/their first livestream interactions/the main couple's stay at MC's parents' house for the first time/reveal, etc). I didn't like this imbalance at all.

Overall, recommended to read but I wouldn't prioritise this over novels such as PUBG Romance, PUBG AMW, FOG, I Can Do It, Waiting For You Online. <<less

Cute, short, and light hearted read. Lin Xizhou is an actor who worships gamer Ji Beiling. One day, LX accidentally gifts 500 torpedoes (about 500, 000 yuan) to JB's livestream and catches his attention.

Spoiler

LX had been beaten by JB years ago in a game. This led LX to give up his ambition to be a gamer and switched to acting. Instead of hating JB, he became his obsessive fan. The mistake with the torpedoes led them to reconnect and romance unfolds as JX discovers LX's identity.

Short but the plot is delivered fine.

Unlike any other e-sport or entertainment theme, this one combine both but still give a similar satisfying feeling of the two themes.

It mainly focus on their relationship and not dangling around explaining about entertainment world or game system, so it's quite enjoyable.

Simple and sweet, nothing too complicated. Initial Premise: MC is a big fan of the professional e-sports player (the ML, Northland). But his acting career expressly forbids him from showing it. So there’s lots of mistaken identity shenanigans in the beginning as the MC proceeds to spoil his favorite idol in every way that he can.

I didn’t end up finishing it cause I fell asleep just before the end *sneezingface* and couldn’t pluck up enough interest after waking up, but I did enjoy the story as a late night casual... more>> read. There wasn’t anything too complicated in it, so I could read it before sleeping without worrying about being so anxious I couldn’t put it down. The characters are relative simple as well. The MC is the strong-willed and hardworking type of shou, while the ML is your usual stoic and overbearing gong. The romance was relatively fast-paced, though one can blame the length of the novel for that LOLOL. And as for the setting. Well, it’s not really covered in detail and isn’t the focus of the story. The MC is an actor and the ML is an e-sports player, it’s a fact but it doesn’t drive the plot much outside of blocking the romance for a bit.

All in all... ? If you’re looking for something simple and sweet, I say give it a try! The TL is good so there’s nothing to worry about there. Oh! There is a GxB CP, but it’s a side one and I thought it was actually a bit cute *thumbsup*.

RATING: 3.5/5

Because of the length, giving it a score higher than a four star is impossible for an epic-novel-length addict like me. Plus, it’s true that the story is definitely lacking in complexity and set-up. It doesn’t hinder personal enjoyment much though, so don’t let my rating scare you. <<less
