By "good romantic story", at minimum: no bs that isn't justified or explained, or is overly done; romance is not offensive, neither lead being an as*hole to each other; romance that isn't overly dry or has too much drama; leads may be either slightly stereotypes or codependent but at least it's cute and they are not 2d but the sides may be a little; chemistry is good and story plot is mediocre or vice versa
At best: independent badass leads where the romance is a build up of them doing their own thing and getting to know each other; solid world building; 3d characters all around; fluff that makes you happy and not bored to read; there is actually good plot; there is life beyond romance but the romance makes it nice to read too

Still reading. This is probably the best abo bl romance novel I've read and I don't really like abo novels. I dislike abo bc they excuse too much toxic behavior as biological as if humans aren't biological yet still have to stay logical. However, honestly, seriously, meaningfully, this is an incredibly well written bl highschool romance. All the characters feel like real students. Events seems real. I don't know why I like this so much but I just do. Sike I have a full review if you want to read. But in essence, this primarily a romance/cultivation novel in an apocalypic setting. See? Isn't that so interesting? It's fluffy bc nothing really happens to her but imo a lot happen to her mentally. She and ml grow in their own way. I think there are some serious themes about standing your ground admist pressure and knowing your standards while being generous to the degree you can. Still reading. I like this but it's incredibly slow. The only reason why that's ok is bc it's a slice of life. At the same time the setting is a farm so the pacing is very appropriate. Rip here lays my broken heart for the low-key 2nd ml... Damn it!! I knew it too. This is a pretty in depth book on family and relationships (in a wealthy family). Still reading who know if it'll stay but I am enjoying this very much! For people who love family novels, shameless MCs who are so smart actually, history, and books in books. The mc is a male in a bg novel - how rare! Rarer still that he is not misogynistic nor seems to suffer from internal misogyny - if anything he suffers from ignorance but never for long bc he always asks questions! This is what I call a filthy guilty pleasure. No dogblood. But incredibly cheesy in the beginning. I think the book really hits it's stride when they get together actually. Pacing is a bit slow but it is a food businesswoman novel; I probably would've dnfed it for the pacing if it weren't for the fact all the characters are likeable.
