10/10. (UF) Psychological horror, gritty and raw gore, and characters that are dynamic—this novel is really one that deserves its tags. The slow but vivid reveal of the atmosphere, setting, and mystery all contribute to the striking impact of the plot. This is for those that want a thriller that is on par with Silent Hill 2. The BL aspect of this novel is very much slow and late-game; don’t read this expecting to be greeted with romance.... more>>

9/10. (UF) Possessing everything from a fantastic plotline to amazing characters to a happy ending, the author does a fantastic job at engaging the reader with every chapter. There is almost no filler or dragged out plots in this novel, and thus the pacing of the story is really well done. Though the characters all seem to be a little too "smart" in that they make logical leaps to come to a correct conclusion, the tension that is brought about by the competitive relationships between characters is phenomenal. This is less a romance story, and more of a thriller/action novel.... more>>

9/10. (UF) This is for those that want a horror MC that is fantastically characterised and rendered. He is quick-witted but utterly realistic in his circumstances; constantly met with dangerous situations, he is understandably vulnerable and has to rely on his teammate(s) to get through. On top of this, the side characters are phenomenal and distinct in their personalities: the author did an amazing job with that. The overarching plot is just as riveting as the characterisation with its pace and foreshadowing: there should be a mystery tag attached to this novel.... more>>

8/10. Absolutely phenomenal is a way to describe the world in which this novel is set. The author does a fantastic job at creating a unique setting and premise, and only makes it better by adding characters that are both realistic and charismatic. The translator does an amazing job at discerning the nuances in the novel's atmosphere, allowing the author's vivid imagery and background to shine. The romance is secondary to the plot, and it only just makes the novel better.... more>>

8/10. (UF) With a very innovative premise and fun characters, this novel shines in its ability to balance horror with levity. In a single chapter, the author manages to impart disgust and revulsion due to their graphic descriptions, but also manages to bring laughter due to the hilarity of the MC’s adaptive behaviour and thoughts. Though some characters sometimes fall into tropes, they are all very robust and distinct; each setting of every “arc” is very well-written; and the plot points are cohesively brought together.... more>>

8/10. (UF) With a fascinating plot as its premise, this novel boasts fantastic characterisation to bring the readers along on a fun journey in which the MC is the sole person able to remember the horrors of the world in which they are constantly reborn. The author does a marvellous job at world-building, and has obviously taken a lot of effort to bring an uncanny feeling to the worlds that they create. The gore and terror aspects of the worlds written within are beautifully rendered by the fantastic translations done by White Sky Translations.... more>>

8/10. (UF) Ignore the comedy tag, this novel is an absolute gem of a thriller QT. The author wonderfully balances the horror aspects of the ML with the MC’s levity and optimism, really bringing out the harmoniously dichotomous nature between the two main characters. Having said that, this isn’t a pairing where opposites attract. Rather, they are each other’s complements. The romance is a slow-build one, with the author focusing their attention on how the MC adapts and grows with each experience he has in his various arcs. Please note that the depiction of mental illnesses are not entirely accurate nor should it be considered realistic—DID (dissociative identity disorder) and AID (associative ID) are not... more>>

8/10. (UF) Fantastic premise, intriguing settings, and characters that are both interesting and full of levity, this novel doesn't fall short of others within the same genre as it. The MC is quick-witted without seeming overly OP, and his vulnerability makes him all the more engaging as a horror novel protagonist. The intense terror of each world is brought to life by the vivid descriptions written by both author and translator. All in all: read in the dark for the best effect.... more>>

8/10. (UF) This is one of those novels where you head in expecting a light read, only to be hit over the head with a lot more plot and complexity than you expected. The MC is absolutely the shining star of this novel, with the focus being on her character growth in a world that is both uniquely suited for her and yet attempting to devour her. The ML(s) are far from the cookie-cutter yandere trope, with the author managing to make them engaging as antagonists throughout the novel.... more>>

8/10. (UF) With the MC taking on the unique role of tour-guide for every world to which he is subject, this novel doesn’t fail to set up an intriguing premise for the reader to enjoy. The characters involved all have distinct and dynamic personalities, and with the cunning plots of everyone involved, the plot and survival of the characters becomes increasingly convoluted. Though the action itself is fast, the overarching plot is rather slowbuild. This is for those that enjoy acting and scheming on multiple levels.... more>>

7/10. (UF) The fun premise of the MC being a spirit possessing a body gives this novel a rather unique setting, which is only made more fun due to the first world to which the characters are subjected. Though the MC comes off as rather one-dimensional (pun not intended), the progression of the novel allows for all of the recurring/main characters involved to undergo significant development.... more>>

7/10. (UF) Shameless, bold and provocative, the MC is the definite highlight of this novel—he is one to take things as they are and attempt to spin them to his own advantage. Despite his rather unfortunate premise, his cunning (and the ML’s indulgence) always bring him out on the other side mostly untouched. The setting of the worlds are surprisingly detailed, and the author doesn’t hold back at all in broaching the more horrifying of descriptions.... more>>

7/10. (UF) The dynamic personalities of the MC and ML carry this novel through its various creative arcs, bringing hilarity to an otherwise horrifying setting. The incongruity of the ML’s perversity and MC’s straight-man tenacity with the bleak background makes for a fun read. In other words, great characterisation and comedy—this isn’t for those that want a pure horror.... more>>

7/10. (UF) For those that crave some vividly written horror of the East Asian variety. Though not quite Junji Ito-levels of psychological horror, the author does an amazing job at evoking discomfort and fear with their descriptions and settings. The MC is surprisingly relatable as a shallow face-con, and his personality does a great job at bringing levity to the otherwise heavy atmosphere brought by the setting. If not for the weak ending of this novel and the loose ends of some plot points/characters, it would have scored at least an 8.... more>>

7/10. For those that want either of the following: gruesome gore-p*rn in each world setting, or an unambiguous and uncomplicated instant romance between the MC and ML. The overarching plot is slow to progress despite the rapid pace of each surprisingly novel arc, creating a mild dissonance for the readers as it prevents complete immersion into the respective arc’s setting. Despite giving this a 7, the translation does a fantastic job at conveying the author’s vivid imagination and descriptions, and the author does amazingly at creating suspenseful and horrifying situations. The relatively low rating is attributed to the pacing of the overall story.... more>>

7/10. To put it succinctly: a hapless hypers*xual man is unwittingly surrounded by yanderes that want to monopolise him. The author has a surprisingly deft hand at writing mature themes with levity; there are comedic undertones to the horrors and thrills that the MC has to experience, making what would otherwise be a horrifying experience far more enjoyable (for the reader). The world-building is also excellent, though the characterisation often falls into sidelines due to the heavy focus on the MC and his various forced relationships.... more>>

7/10. (UF) With a rather unique premise in which the players are split into those that are authors and audience members, this novel boasts a plot-rich setting and interesting worlds for the MC to explore. The characters in general are unsurprising due to their common trope personalities and behaviour, though the engaging plot makes up for this.... more>>

6/10. (UF) For those that enjoy a swift love-at-first-sight romance that spans multiple worlds. Barring the questionable premise for the ML in the first arc, the main characters involved are engaging and fun; though having said that, due to the focus on the fast-paced and short arcs’ plots, side characters tend to fall short and become two-dimensional... though it’s not unlike a typical horror movie. The main characters are also extremely OP, so for those that expect vulnerable characters, this isn’t for you. The worlds are mostly original, and the author does a thorough job at depicting the original movie and contrasting it with the changes unwittingly made by the MC.... more>>

6/10. (UF) A light-hearted novel for those that want an uncomplicated romance between a rather naive MC and his horror-BOSS love interest. The setting is the average run-of-the-mill horror UF, and the characters are occasionally tropey—for those that want an easy guilty pleasure read.... more>>

6/10. The initial world-building and atmosphere is really stellar, though it eventually falls to the side in favour of introducing the MC and her multitudes of love interests. Regardless, this novel doesn’t fail to remind the readers throughout that the world is set in a horror game.... more>>

6/10. Accompanied by a well-drawn manga, this novel follows the path of a transmigrated MC who slowly degenerates as she’s assimilated by the body into which she was placed: the Queen of a spider-like race. Needless to say, it’s gorey, it’s full of disgusting humans and monsters alike, and it’s horrible—in the perspectives of those opposing the MC. The way in which the author attempts to engage in the steady dehumanisation of the MC is really fun, and rather subtle.... more>>
