Only the industrious need apply. Semi-historical dog-blood nonsense? Right this way, Mary Sue. Is there anything you won't read? DBZ enlightenment grinding to godhood. Ultimately unsatisfying. Relationship grinding is okay though. What can I tell you? Love triangles are a no-go. <<less

It is a theme in many novels. In almost every novel, ML starts out as a Scum*! But there are different types of scum* ... some more acceptable (in context), others intolerable and unforgivable!

They are described as handsome, cold, dominating, powerful, intelligent, ambitious, arrogant, proud, heartless ... However, ironically, they can be easily deceived by misunderstandings, evil suspicions and "the pitiful white lotus"...  and end up mistreating, harming, hurting, abusing, poisoning or torturing FL unfairly. ლಠ益ಠ)ლ

Later, when the truth is revealed, they regret everything they have done, discover that they love FL and cannot live without her! They change to be the best male for FL! Humpf! But it is so late ... hahaha a joke! t(=n=)

We like to see them suffering, begging, crawling ... but it is never enough! Or, unfortunately, they don't even suffer from anything, they don't beg for anything but they keep the girl in the end! (ಠ ∩ಠ)

They are all Chinese novels and the romance is BG, there are a lot of rebirth/transmigration novels. No instant love here!

The female leads in all these novels is quite badass but not OP. They are smart and can be more or less scheming but they are all resilient in the face of adversities.

So here is a collection of nicely written second chance BG romance (mostly through rebirth but could also be transmigration or misunderstanding). Both historical and modern.

Higher rating goes to novels where there’s a sufficient amount of groveling. On the ML part obviously.
