I typically find "Child Protagonist" stories hard to commit to because of how slow the plot progresses and how Mary Sue-like the fmls are but this one was too wholesome to put down. I never felt like the story was dragging on like I do with most other similar tagged novels. The synopsis doesn't do it enough justice. This story is more unique than the other childhood love stories because it incorporates the female athlete x genius student trope which is super uncommon in CN romance novels. I really liked how the ml was mature and not in the tsundere, despising-the-fml's-intelligience type of way. They were both really supportive of each other's paths.

I like how the ml isn't your typical rich guy in CN novels. He's definitely on the higher end of the spectrum, owning a successful milk tea shop and all, but he doesn't have some ridiculously prestigious background. On that same note, it was also nice to read about a fml that's a mangaka of all things. While the story doesn't go into depth about the profession itself, it was nice to get something different.

My only complaint-that's-not-really-a-complaint is how kind of calm the storyline is. Because there's no drama, there's not really a climax although I think that is how it should be considering the fml's anxiety. I think it functions very well as a short story though so if you want something quick and heartwarming, this is it. <<less

1v1 QT novel with a tree-demon female protag. The story follow fml as she binds to a system and travels to different worlds with the purpose of collecting "energy" to restore her leaves that were damaged every time this one beast (ml) ate her. In each world, there is a "son of heaven" who is a god descending to that world as a mortal to refine themselves/face a tribulation. Fml must help that "son of heaven" fulfill his goal whilst also helping her host fulfill their wishes. Fml always has an idea on how to help the "son of heaven" but but ends up causing the ml to fall in love with her, causing him... more>> to blacken when she dies and leaves him. 

What I liked about this story was how the fml was able to be in a lifelong relationship (and even papapa with) the ml in the different worlds without attaching any feelings. Granted, that may change as this story is tagged romantic, but for now, she holds no feelings and only views the mls as missions. I also love that her character set-up as a tree demon makes her steady and logical but also stubborn and ignorant of human behavior. She's not very coquettish and is actually rather heartless which I love. Unlike some of the other QTs I've read, this one involves tragedy so be prepared to cry! 

"The Villains I Raised All Died" has a very similar premise and personally, I liked that novel better than this one but they're both good. <<less

I thought that the premise of this novel was really unique. The fml, Chu Yin is reborn as her younger self and gains a system that allows her to change the words of the novel she's a part of every time she accomplishes a certain study mission. Although she is unable to directly harm or change the mind of the ml, Lu Zhen, she finds creative ways to take revenge against him and prevent him from becoming obsessed with her. Naturally she's not very successful but it makes for great humorous moments and the changes she makes to the story are unexpected. It was entertaining enough for me to read all in one sitting.

The novel's description is a little misleading. I thought that the ml would be like "Transmigrating to Become the Boss's Little Fairy"'s ml (rough delinquent but a puppy to the fml) but he's more in-line with the overbearing CEO-type (which becomes more prominent when they're adults). The time skips were well placed and did not cause the story to drag as it followed the two from their high school years to their working adult lives.

One thing I really enjoyed was the development of the relationships within the fml's family. No spoilers but it was a nice touch and made the story more than just a romance novel. 

The main story is completely translated but not the extras. I MTLed them which wasn't great but enough for me to get the idea.  <<less

It was refreshing to read a xianxia story where there is a clear distinction between the good and evil cultivators. Not only did it eliminate a lot of petty, envy-driven drama, it allowed the readers to focus more on the relationships and characters in the story. As I continued reading about how peaceful the relationship between cultivators were, I did feel like it was unrealistic but the short-length of the story (at least for a martial arts one) prevented me from getting sick of it.  <<less

(SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT, read with caution) I felt that her sudden acceptance of the love interest in the last few chapters was very abrupt and didn’t have the same ingenuity as the story preceding it. While very sweet, the ml’s loyalty seemed out of place considering their limited interactions. Idk, I think I’m mostly upset because it didn’t give me the conclusion that I needed.

I still recommend it though because the rushed romance doesn’t change how good the bulk of the story was.  <<less

Out of the all the novels listed above, I think this one is the most mature in terms of complex relationships, character growth, and titular responsibilities. It resembles a published book more than a webnovel in a sense if you were to ignore some of the tropes and terminologies. I typically don't read these types of books because of their sombre tone but surprisingly, I finished it in 2 days. I think this novel does a good job of incorporating the convoluted ties between the elite in ancient society in a way that doesn't burden the audience with a heavy chest. It also provides a satisfying closure at the end with side stories that wrap everything up nicely.  <<less

I wrote my review for this in my other rec list ('fmcs with uncommon occupations'- since the fml is a CEO while the ml is on the lower end of the social-class disparity) and I'm too lazy to write a more refined one so here's my copy-paste:

I really like this story despite not normally enjoying the dom!fml trope. In this case though, it was more of a flirty!fml and inexperienced!ml. I like more of a traditional gender role type romance but I never felt "pressured", for lack of a better word, by this one. The author also did a great job in taking those typical upper-class society drama tropes and turning them into something interesting for the readers. The originality may have been lacking but the execution was phenomenal. I binged the entire thing in one go. In fact, my main criticism is how short it was! Some juicy tidbits were starting to unravel in the last few chapters but were entirely glossed over on the basis of the leads respecting each other. I didn't need the story to get into the gory details but the HE in the last 2 chapters was too sudden even for me. The four year time skip could've been spaced out a bit. They went from just stabilizing their relationship in 25 chapters to suddenly getting married. While I was happy for them, it didn't give me the satisfying closure that I was expecting for such a well-written novel.

Would still highly recommend for those who like fluff. <<less

If you liked works like Eight Treasures Trousseau and To Be A Virtuous Wife, you'll probably like this one too. I was misled by the description into thinking that the fml would get the golden finger of knowing the plot and will immediately begin seducing the ml but that is not how it went at all. Unlike other fml's, Tang Shishi had a clear goal to pursue the original ml (not Jing Wang), was continuously met with setbacks and failures, but persisted stubbornly. I really loved the fml's character. She was flawed and not as "smart" as other protagonists but she did what she could in the position she was in. She had great self-awareness... more>> and used it to her advantage, not afraid to bow down when disadvantaged and be pretentious when favored. The tr*sh talking between women was expertly written.

Also, bonus points for the fml and ml both being of adult age in the modern sense. Historically, it would not be accurate but the characters were formed in a way that provided a reasonable explanation for it, not to mention that this was a fictional work in the first place. The extra chapters about what happened in the previous life were also so sweet. <<less
