One of the cutest novels I have read and I'm very glad that it got picked up. The female and male leads have known each other ever since they were eight years old. This was where the female lead was asked to 'work' because she has good Chinese characters (if I remember correctly) or something that she has a good life and where both of them were born on the same day (29 February) and same year. Thus, she was 'hired' to stay near the young master of a wealthy... more>> family (the male lead). Something unique about this novel compared to other novel is that the male lead didn't 'dislike' her compared to other novels with similar storyline.
Spoiler

This can be seen where he left two apples near the female lead when she first arrived as she was hungry after a long journey from the village to the city.

[collapse]
The young male lead did wanted to ask his family members to send her back to the village/hometown and to stop being superstitious. Of course, in the end the male lead's family members did not. And there started their lives together.

Their lives together is really cute. The female lead would look after the male lead as she felt that it was her job. This is because she compared to the other older youths in her hometown where they said it wasn't easy to work in the city etc. Every day, she would accompany the male lead, coax him to take medicine, have meals together, take a stroll with her after meals, comfort him when he wasn't feeling well. Slowly, they became closer with each other.
Spoiler

The male lead wasn't sickly anymore after the female and male lead were kidnapped.

From what I have remembered, the male lead's mother brought them out. As the male lead's mother was a celebrity, she was always surrounded by paparazzis, reporters and fans. On that day, when they came out of the car, they were surrounded. Someone then suddenly kidnapped the male lead and the female lead tried to struggle to help and was kidnapped along with him as well. When they woke up, it was in the mountains or a hill near the village. They shared food together and the female lead pitied the watch dog that was tied down and had a cut on its/her neck. The male lead was worried on whether the dog would bite her but she insisted that it won't since it looks hungry and it was pitiful. After this, they slept and when they woke up again they heard the kidnappers demanding money from the male lead's family. The male lead's family gave the money but the kidnappers didnt release them. On one instance, when the police arrived and the scene was messy, the female and male lead rushed out and found an escape route. They brought the dog along with them. They rushed towards the mountain/hill and hid in cave in the mountain. As it was an environment where the female lead was somewhat familiar with, so she managed to find edible fruits and vegetables for them to eat. She was also worried that the male lead would fall ill or have a fever thus she kept checking on him the entire night and covered her jacket on him. Both of them stayed in that area for a few days. During the period, the dog gave birth to two puppies. And that was when they realised why the dog was so skinny but had a swollen tummy previously. Also, the male lead has also realised that he wasn't sick and that he actually didnt know why he was ill or the illness he had. They were later found by the police and the male lead's family members and from then the male lead's family was very grateful towards the female lead. It was later found out that the housekeeper and the doctors were the master mind of the whole kidnap and the smallpox (?) the male lead had where they had placed a blanket that was infected with the disease and the male lead had used it (since to him it was the same and it didnt matter).

[collapse]

The romance of this novel is cute. Though I have to say that the male lead is the person pampering the female lead most of the time.
Spoiler

such as attending all her competitions in person and watching her even though she didnt know of it. He even skipped a lesson to attend the competition which was often joked by his friends. Or travelling long distance to find the female lead which wasn't staying in the city at that time. Waiting for her calls every time and throughout the years.

[collapse]

There is also development in the other characters other than the main leads. This is such as the male lead's family members, female lead's family members and the female lead's friends (when she attended the sports school for her badminton). Also, there is a rather realistic perspective of a person in the sports career.
Spoiler

Such as even though the female lead may have won competition. On one instance, she couldn't participate in the Olympics because her knee muscles were strained (or something like that) or when the female lead goes out she cannot eat the meat (other than her home cooked food) at all since there is a risk of the female lead being disqualified if the meats were injected (?).

[collapse]

In conclusion, I would recommend this novel if you are looking for a novel that is not too dramatic, does not have any misunderstanding, female and male leads having grown up together, and a sweet novel. I wouldn't recommend this novel if you are looking for a smart female lead (as in scheming or with her studies (anyways it is mainly focused on the female lead's badminton skills). Anyways, I hope other readers will enjoy the novel as much as I do (hahah and I apologised for the skimpy spoilers). <<less

Cute story, but there are too many silly plotlines because of the extreme lack of depth in character setting coupled with no research that resulted in lots of logical fallacies. This can be seen clearly in the side characters in the first 30ish chapters.

Spoiler

A family doctor who discouraged perfectly capable patient to light exercise, never gave any diagnosis for years, yet the family never questioned anything while still trusting him unconditionally. I highly questioned this family's lack of IQ.

Reporters who swarmed a hospital just to interview an 8yo child of an actress without his parents accompanying him.

A professional butler who risked his longtime job just to plot against a girl who was said to be able to save his young master superstitiously but silly enough to make s*upid mistakes to get caught.

A family who let their 8yo child practically imprisoned in his home without giving him proper schooling.

Kidnappers who successfully kidnapped two kids in the middle of the day in the town center while being surrounded by tens of fans, witnesses, and bodyguard, without any weapon equipped and managed to leave the scene unscratched, and why would they even bother to only kidnap the kids when the bug actress was practically there, they would've gotten bigger ransom with her. And why would they kidnap MC anyway when they already had insiders working for them and understand that she's not part of the family. It would've worked way better if they only kidnap the ML or his mother.

Supposed fans of said artists who surrounded her called her queen yet only watched a kidnapping happening right in front of them without giving any helping hand when said artist fell right in front of them nor calling ambulance / police, only serving as spectators who gave way to kidnappers.

Marketing numbers who brilliantly could pick up the kidnapping story up to the ransom details (how much and meeting point) even without information from the family members and kidnappers, the only reasonable explanation was that they placed a bug on the actress, which is silly and too expensive.

[collapse]

It's clear that that the author is an amateur who lacks life experience, at most still studying in high school. It's fluffy and cute, but honestly I cannot read one chapter without having to question the logics. My brain is dead reading this. <<less

This is probably the most wholesome read I've had the pleasure of reading! A tale of unlikely childhood sweethearts brought together by grandma's belief in fates and superstition.

While the key line in the summary ("They said I can live a hundred years, I'll give you half, okay?") , that hooked me into reading this, didn't occur... it's still super lovely to read :')

ML falls for MC way, way, w a y early on in their childhood--as seen in his actions and mannerisms.

Spoiler
    • secretly leaving 2 apples in front of MC' s door on her first day (he's not so tough and cold huh)
    • trading jade pendants bc he wants hers
    • acquiescence to everything she asks for he's gonna coddle and spoil her rotten in the future!
[collapse]

It's a little confusing early on when he's described as a teenager (unless I misunderstood something) but he and MC are born on the same date, same year! He's more mature than MC, given his health experiences and his home life which gives the illusion that he's older than MC. The moments they spend together are so wholesome, my mum could bake loaves with them and never run out! Those moments are when ML gets to be a normal kid again. in my feels. jpg

I'm honestly stunned by how well the author portrays the childlike innocence in our MC, who is a kid. Often times kids get portrayed awkwardly mature or very baby, but our little Shui Shui is the perfect child imo! She takes things at face value and is ignorant of the evils in the world. Her big focus is on her task and that is to keep her gege healthy and safe!

I'll probably get diabetes by the time I finish this novel because it's so full of sweetness between MC and ML!

If you needed a wholesome read and a positive MC, this novel is probably it for you ^^

Based from the synopsis, I kind of came in to the novel expecting I might hate it because romance novels where there is clearly a power imbalance between the couple (ML/FL starts/maintains the romantic relationship because of a favor/money/etc) - but ooooo boy was I wrong.

It was such a pleasant surprise and it was SO refreshing to have a *young* MC act her age (sure, ML was more “adult” but still). I enjoyed her character well. Even if ML & FL were a little bit too OP, it still flowed... more>> naturally. And I am a huge fan of hardworking characters!!

The only thing I would have wished there was more of was MC’s relationship with her family esp her brother and dad. <<less

I wanted to write a review early on before finishing this because I always forget to write one later onTwTbut so far this novel was a very good and cute read.I recommend this to anyone who would like fluff and nostalgic novels. By nostalgic I mean this novel really can be relatable to reality especially about moments from our childhood. Let me first elaborate the good and bad points for me in this novel:

    • I'd start with the ml. The ML was really a good break from all those cold male leads who seems like they don't have feelings and who always seems to look down on others (I mean he kinda is but he has a very good reason to do so) yeah he's the male protagonist but this one.. This one really gives me a peace of mind seeing such a cute ML who I can finally easily know his true feelings acting more like a normal person. Although he has op skills his interactions with MC makes it seem more like he's human also and not just some "male protagonist of a book" for example he finds puppies and dogs interesting and cute also, theres also the time he was interested on the food MC eats and so tries them and eats it together with her.I find it so cute and adorable and gives me serotonin~The way he takes care of MC gives me another serotonin~the way they take care of each other is also really sweet and is like a happy pill for me~.
    • I love the way how the MC and ML falls inlove with each other. They don't fall inlove at first sight and it seems more reasonable and more sweet how slowly they get closer and start to like each other not just some novels I read where they just met the 2nd time and ML already goes "what is this feeling?badump" wheeze- anyways seeing the journey and moments MC and ML has really is calming to my heart and their moments are so cute. The only thing I didn't like is that
      Spoiler

MC and ML almost ended up as real brothers and sistersTwTcause MC almost got adopted

      [collapse]
but atleast MC disagreed so glad to know she wasn't dumb she atleast still knows and cares for her real parents.
    • I disliked the part how they didn't made MC and ML engaged from the start instead of making her adopted.I mean MC takes care of ML very well and ML is fond of MC so I think they won't disagree with the engagement and they could break it early on too since the parents and kids have good relationships and they love them both MC and ML also and respects their decisions especially since
      Spoiler

MC saved ML from kidnapping although ML played a part in helping them escape too but MC mostly contributed

      [collapse]
Also I kinda hated mc's parents at first for selling off their own daughter but also regrets and redeems themselves later on since they'll start to support mc's decisions. Ml's parents I kinda hated at first for how they treated MC especially how the father looks down on her but after the kidnapping event he started changing for the good.
    • One of my favorite moments here is when MC went back to her hometown. She reminded me so much of myself how it's hard when those around you changed and your the only one left who hasn't. Seeeing her friends married and all on their own paths and how they used to only play together, chat, and bond where they still hadn't stepped the world of adults touched my heart. It feels so relatable cause of how once I went to my hometown also I see all my friends change so much and I was the only one left who hasn't. We both felt the same how we both wanted it to stay the same as before. Im jealous atleast she had the ML to cope with it and here I am lonelyTwThuhu but recently I started to accept but mostly reading novels helped me cope with it lol especially this novel.
I really recommend this to people who wants to read fluff and also to others who can also relate. This was like a happy pill giving me smiles and frowns~the drama wasn't too much either and was more relaxing~it also has sports since I also like watching or reading sports gave this a plus points for me. Now the sports part isn't too heavy on the plot so don't worry to anyone who isn't much of a sports fan. Anyways if you wanna take a break from all those drama and fights in plots then I recommend this~the serotonin this gave me is *chefs kiss* so please try reading it atleast~

Really sweet and beautiful novel. Plain fluff with not much deviation from reality. Also, no brainless evil cannon fodders here.

Some parts that I felt were really different than others & add to this novel's charm

  • No love at first sight
  • Spoiler

They stay in touch, and grow up together like normal childhood friends even when the adults thought it would be difficult due to their different social class

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

They realistically fade apart due to their different schedules but they are quick enough to realise & bridge the gap

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

How puberty hits them and they have the stirrings of realisation that their "sibling" might have his/her relationship

    [collapse]
  • Rural areas are not exactly "evil", they have early marriages than the city and are openly patriarchical than the city
  • Both the MC & ML have decent EQ, no denseness of sorts.
    Spoiler

They have feelings but they view the other as a sibling so they don't realise it soon enough

    [collapse]
Some people might be dissatified with -

  • Spoiler

The kidnapping. Mainly how they were able to hide and survive. But given her rural background & the description of the hideout, the plot hole is properly patched up in my opinion

    [collapse]
It's a smooth & short novel so there's a simple plot. It is more focused on their growth and relationship. This is halfway through so I might edit this review later but I have high hopes for this story.

So, the novel started okay, even if there were no world details or loophole plots however I felt I had to stop because the author kept that feeling of: "I have two very nice characters ML and FL, and IDC about the world details or plot anymore, cause their CP will fix it all", the result in the late chapters made them Mary Sue+ Gary Sue.

Spoiler

1. It has unrealistic stuff in it, like FL winning at 14 years old the Olympic Badminton and every time she won at badminton, even the second Olympic she won it with 0 details.

2. The ML is a 100% Gary Sue and a rare handsome man as usual but the author kept throwing in the fact that he's so handsome, especially the part where his ex-actress mother needed help with a role of handsomeness, then he got popular. Another fact is that he got into University at teenage age, then very fast in one sentence, he got a driver's license. So I need FL/ML to be Almost Equal in achievements.

3. I think what destroyed my mood to read this novel most of the time were the CP fans after they got popular with different characteristics, particularly because the author kept writing this premature love as a problem 100% even setting us an example from FL's badminton group. Plus with the fact that the author had the obsession to make them be accepted by the people cause they had such "góød CP" and such good judges, like only with people's consent for their premature relationship in this novel would they be able to go on, the "benefit" for the couple by being photographed unknowingly and being admired by cp fans. Nah, I didn't expect to read here about actor/actress atmosphere with the people plot being set in this novel, it's uncomfortable

4. The kidnapping part although was unrealistic, it was the only tense plot.

5. ML's illness at the start:

-is unknown

-FL saved the day with her presence of being close to him

-bam, the plot made them meet unrealistically

6. The part where FL is still calling ML as Gege or Brother, even after they get in a relationship, no blood relations, but really now? I don't need that kind... of atmosphere, even their so-called cute interactions are overwhelmed by that word

7. Their dog food relationship is used as a shield to all the plot loopholes.

8. That village girl who was saved by the FL was ignored by the author, no more details if she got the kindergarten job, honestly, she has a more interesting character than our FL/ML being Sue.

9. The part where I dropped the novel, after all, reading till c101 and having a few chapters left of this bad novel doesn't hurt, right? However, their out of a sudden of s×x outside of marriage devastated my mood for this novel but of course, they are "adults" now, not in premature love, ofc it's accepted.

[collapse]

Overall, I don't even recommend this to be read with the brain off mode, there are better plots than this flat and tiring plot.

P.s. Bed scene outside of marriage, not detailed.

Good day. <<less

I really liked this novel.

They were childhood sweethearts and had lots of cute moments together. MC is really hardworking and I like that she is better at sports than ML and beats his ass in Badminton compared to the usual novels where ML is always a perfect god better at everything the MC does.

ML is a LOT better at relationships than the majority of other guys in other novels. He is super patient and makes 100% sure that his white moonlight is on the same page as him at any... more>> point in their relationship, unlike those pushy overbearing CEO types.

4.5/5

Oh right... I already mentioned it in other reviews, please don't put the "pregnancy" tag on here if it isn't an integral part of the story but only the cherry on top the relationship-cake thats mentioned in the epiloge/when 95% of the story is already over. There are novels where the whole getting pregnant and having kids part is a very important plot-point in the story providing lots of either cute/fluff, or angst/drama moments, this novel ISN'T one of them, its more like a "oh I've forgot to mention they had kids/family in the end and lived happily ever after fairytale ending"-novel and I think those novels having the pregnancy tag is kinda misleading. <<less

I'm giving this a 5 rating. I don't know why others say that this novel was boring. This is a very good read. So what if they don't have a very eventful life? This feels therapeutic to me. Sometimes, you just need to slow down and enjoy every bit of it.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading it. If you want to take a break from novels with heavy plots, you can try this.

After I finished reading this novel, my heart feels like a warm stream~ This was exactly what I wanted to read after reading Sweet Nothings. No angst, no major drama, just warm, soft, and fluffy romance. It was as if I watched the ML and FL grow together and eventually fall in love and become a family.

The FL was an absolutely pure and naive person. Add to the fact that she has a very innocent-looking face and big crystal clear eyes, she was just such an adorable cinnamon roll. From... more>> the start, she took a liking towards ML despite ML being a bit prickly in the beginning. Later on, she discovered her talent and passion in badminton and went on to harvest gold medals one after another (yep, she never lost). Still, at the very least, we do get to see that she worked hard to reach that far and that she also had some minor stumbles along the way. FL was someone who was very scared of change and the passing of time, but because ML always assures her that they will always be together in the future, she gained courage and accepted the changes.

ML had a high IQ and excellent characteristics. He was sick when he was younger because he was counted on by some evil employees. He was honestly such a tsundere towards FL at the beginning but gradually softened after getting along with her. He first treated her as a best friend, then a younger sister, and finally a romantic partner. He was patient with her and supported her from the very beginning. He didn't coerce her into being with him since he knew she was such a pure person. He let her grow her feelings for him naturally and waited for her to feel the same way. Really, ML and FL were really meant to be together.

I also would like to commend the various supporting characters in the novel. They really added a lot of warmth and wholesomeness to this novel. I even thought that if it weren't for most of the people in this novel to be good people, it probably wouldn't be this light-hearted and smooth-sailing. So kudos! Great slice-of-life novel and adorable childhood friends to lovers romance! <<less

This novel is just pure of sweet and fluffy moments! I can't help but wish I had a childhood friend when I was growing up T.T Sadly, I am not like Shuishui, which is fine since I doubt that I'll be as adorable as her hahaha

Well, what can I say apart from how this is just a light read full of diabetes inducing moments. There isn't a lot of drama going on unlike other novels. While there was one girl who liked the ML, she didn't do much.

Spoiler

I can only remember one time when MC receives an anonymous message from someone claiming to be ML's girlfriend and that she finds MC annoying for always talking with her "bf" on the phone. Of course, that was settled quickly but since I only MTLed this, I don't recall reading if ML dealt with the sender :/

[collapse]

As another reviewer mentioned, it's sad that MC retired at a young age. But given that she was injured, I felt it was fine. Although I don't know how realistic some parts of the novel is like MC is supposedly an Olympic champion and yet she rarely does interviews.

About one of the comments that talked about the kidnapping plot,

Spoiler

I admit the family had problems early on as you have parents who rarely stayed home. But it was mentioned that ML often got sick when he was young so they hired a family doctor. It was only after the doctor felt greedy that he wanted to earn money when he came up with the kidnapping plot.

As for the housekeeper (I didn't know if he was actually the butler, it only said housekeeper when I read it) same with the doctor, you can pretty much do anything because of greed. And the main factor that affected their plot was MC.

One evening, MC dropped a book outside ML's window so at night they tried to retrieve it. At that time, the doctor and housekeeper were plotting and they saw the back of MCs coat (ML was wearing it cuz MC was afraid he was cold) as they were running outside. They thought she heard their plan so they wanted to get rid of her using the chicken pox scheme. But too bad MC was too honest about getting it before so, instead the housekeeper was fired.

And of course they had to kidnap the MC too, or else she could have alerted others and make it difficult for them to get away. Also, I don't know if I read it right but in a very crowded amus**ent park (worse because of the ML's mom is a celebrity), it's quite understandable that no one would notice the kidnappers. It also mentioned that they were not exactly near ML's mother. They went on their own to play so they got separated. The fans didn't just stare while the children were getting kidnapped. In fact, they found out way later.

It was also explained that either the doctor or housekeeper leaked the info about the kidnapping and ransom details to the mom's anti fan.

Anyway, that's just my understanding from reading MTL. After the kidnapping, there aren't any major issues as ML's mom retired from the entertainment industry.

[collapse]

If there was a novel that had the same feel as this, it would be "Ascending Do Not Disturb." While this is not a cultivation novel, I think the dynamic between the two main characters are similar, even the personality. The FL is adorable, hardworking, talented and loved by others. On the other hand, the ML both had some type of illness, are very handsome, intelligent and appeared cold towards others. Lastly, when they are together, they are in their own bubble. Everyone else is invisible around them haha

So, if you enjoy fluffy and lighthearted novels then this one is definitely for you. <<less

Super cute fluff. Reminded me of my own country's national badminton player and his story of how he fell in love with his wife.

MC is a really diligent and hardworking child, it's adorable. What I admire the most is her ability of self-control. How often can you see a child who is so hungry that her stomach rumbled, but still didn't eat anything randomly and wait until she was called to eat, and even then controlled herself to eat with manners? That's an early indication that she was educated well... more>> by her parents. As for ML he is true to his description in the novel: his maturity and actions made people ignore his age. If not the author and someone suddenly gave reminder that MC and ML are, actually, of the same age, it was really easy to think of ML as someone at least a few years older than MC. The constant calling of "Big Brother" totally doesn't help in making ML feel younger. However, without the emphasis on them being of the same age, maybe a lot of people would be holding their mobile phones to call the authority just because ML doesn't act his own age (and probably, more mature than his fellow college colleagues).

Overall very nice read. Recommended. <<less

Very cute story! I MTL'd the story and it wasnt very difficult.

Mostly just fluff.

Spoiler

ML and MC are super cute together.

After the kidnapping plot, MC is scouted due to her badminition skills, so ML and MC are separated but ML visit her often because her school is only an hour away and attends a lot of her competitions.

Eventually, MC has to retire young (20ish) due to extensive training resulting in her knees being in a bad condition, and goes to university.

MC is mostly ignorant abt her feelings but has possessive feelings towards ML. There isnt much drama and no real obstacles that come in the way of their relationship.

Most side characters are very flat.

A short yet sweet story about two childhood sweethearts who supported and relied to each other. It was really good and nostalgic, expecially when the FL started to notice that everything around her is changing and even her childhood buddies are growing up. Her realization coincides with mine. This is far different from what I usually read and it feels so refreshing! If you want a love story with no love triangle and s*upid misunderstandings (well, there are some misunderstandings but it's quickly solved and the next scene to it will make you blush) then this novel is highly recommended.

Our ML is a GREEN flag! And our cutie FL, Shuishui, is so adorable. I can't end a chapter without having to say AWWW. They're so cute!

The story isn't that complicated. It mainly focuses on the couple's... more>> relationship and their life. There's no drama!

Thank you for translating this novel! <<less

The book feels nice but in the end I decided to drop this one.

innocence and pure are good qualities for protagonists but I don't like them when they are so innocent and pure that they believe everything everyone says to them. In my mind it borders on idiocy and when other people in book do not explain or teach them "to save their innocence" that feels like taking their agency from them.

Wow, what a fluffy novel. I'm glad that there's not much villains, and girl rivals or friends aren't obviously labeled as mini villains. Not much drama besides the first 1/3 of the novel, so we mainly get to see our two main leads grow up and fall in love ah~ However, it may not be for everyone as I got to admit, the ML and FL are quite the Gary and Mary Sues. There's, admittedly, quite a lot of author biases revolving our main leads.

Spoiler

FL has never lost in a professional sports game. Ever. Now that is the biggest stretch in reality for this novel, in my opinion. Although the author repeatedly makes FL humble and accept the chance of losing by stating how one can grow stronger in those times, they don't actually go through with making FL lose professionally lol. As for the FL winning the Olympics at 16, that's extremely rare but has precedence in real life, with a 13 year old girl recently winning a gold medal in the 2021 Olympics. While the author doesn't go through the nitty gritty way the FL does to get to that point, the author does emphasize FL's constant training, strict diet and practice regimens, and her respect for her competitors at least. But gosh, author really should've made FL lose some tournaments once in a while haha.

ML is, of course, super smart and skipped multiple grades. A little genius that got into university at age 14/15. The usual, haha.

[collapse]

Despite this, I find the ML and FL very likable and sensible. FL is kind, simple, yet also pure and passionate about her desire to excel in badminton. She isn't arrogant nor does she underestimate her opponents as she strives to constantly practice and push herself in training. Very reliable that she deserves her nickname, Shui-ge, lol. While ML is of course, the very handsome and smart guy. However, I like that even though he knew liked her, he was very considerate of FL whether when he was a kid and as he grew up. No lost brain cells nor attempts to imprison the FL here. ML genuinely cares for FL, as seen in his strangely intricate and complex actions on certain matters, and wishes for her to remain happy rather than to potentially trap her with his feelings. Also, very hilarious that he is considered a sis-con for FL for a long time haha!

There's a lot of misconceptions about this novel in the reviews that almost made me skipped reading it. I'm glad I gave reading this novel a try, it's quite a fluffy read. I'll try to clarify some misconceptions too, to encourage people to give the novel a try and see if it's their cup of tea.

Misconceptions:

1. ML falls in love with FL quick, it's obvious because he gave her apples.
Spoiler

They were both little kids then, who just barely met. FL was literally starving and her stomach was rumbling, of course ML felt bad for her and secretly gave apples. Too bad she didn't even eat it lol.

[collapse]

2. ML's mom was pushed down by a crazy fan, and her other fans did nothing but watch. This is unrealistic.
Spoiler

Whoever wrote this must've MTL or skimmed this part, because that's not the whole truth. Yes, a lot of her fans watched on the sidelines, but there were fans actively shouting to call for the police and an ambulance. Eventually, the fans even restrained the crazy fan and helped the ML's mom stand up.

Moreover, such a situation where people remaining idle in front of violence does unfortunately occur in real life. Not long ago, there were hate crimes against Asian women in the U.S. that were examples of this idleness. One situation was where an Asian woman was attacked in public, and the surrounding crowd mostly just speculated this incident, with only a few coming forth to stop the man. Another incident occurred to another Asian woman who was attacked in front of a hotel, with the security guards witnessing and then ignoring this incident. Although it's a sad truth, bystander apathy (the thinking that someone else will help, or it's not their business to interfere) is a real thing.

3. The kids, ML and FL, got kidnapped right in front of the fans, who did nothing. Also, it's unreasonable for the FL to also be kidnapped for ransom too.
Spoiler

The kidnappers say this themselves, "[The fans] all went to see the celebrity, who would turn around and look behind their backs." With the ML's celebrity mom being injured by a crazy fan, the onlooking fans will focus their attention on her and the crazy fan, which allowed the kidnappers a golden opportunity to take the kids when everyone was distracted.

As for the FL being kidnapped too, wouldn't it be more unreasonable to leave her alone? If they just left her, she can inform people that ML is kidnapped. Even if they knocked her out and left her, a fainted girl will eventually draw attention, and make people suspicious that ML was kidnapped and may deter the kidnappers' escape. Even if people were clueless, FL already saw ML being kidnapped and can alert others when she awakens. By taking both of the kids, the kidnappers let others be confused for longer and let them think the kids were lost in the crowd so that they can cleanly make their escape. Rather than a ransom bargain, I would think the FL was kidnapped to better cover their tracks.

4. The housekeeper and doctor turns against ML and FL for no reason. It's unreasonable for the ML's family to ever trust them and allow them to get away with it in the first place.
Spoiler

Honestly, these two are just bad people. They might've originally not been bad when the ML's family hired them, but time and greed changes people. I'm not going to spoil much more on that, but the novel does go over their reasonings briefly and NOT right away, so you gotta read a bit.

As for the ML's family missing these bad apples in their midst, it is both their fault and yet not at the same time. ML's family is rich and busy, leaving ML alone often due to their jobs. This situation allows trusted workers like the family doctor and housekeeper to have too much leeway to exploit many things. I'm not defending the ML's family for being so ignorant, but I can see how they didn't know. Rich and famous doesn't make you omnipotent. The ML's family really needs to spend more time with the kids, which thank goodness they eventually tried harder to do.

[collapse]

5. Author constantly writes premature love as a problem except for the ML and FL.
Spoiler

On this subject, I rather think it differs from people's own perspective. Rather than being totally against premature love, I think the author is demonstrating their concerns over the potential problems that comes with premature love. One example shown is FL's friend, who was dating at 17/18 and met disapproval.... because her boyfriend was a 29 year old man with a son. I felt it was normal for people to worry about this friend, as the relationship had a large age gap, concerns for her future as an extremely young step mother, and the man's intention to quickly marry. As FL said, "Your boyfriend wants to marry you, mine needs to wait for many years before he can marry." It might've been different if this friend was in her twenties, but this girl was still a teen ah. As someone who had a 16 year old cousin try to date a 30 year old man, I can totally understand this worry about the age gap.

Another example is FL's mom, who had to marry young out of necessity. She couldn't be simple like FL, and had to think of ways to get a man she found acceptable to separate herself from her family, who was stuck in the old fashion ways of heavily favoring the boys over girls yet still expecting the girls to bend backwards for their brother's needs and wishes. Thus, FL's mom, who truly loved FL, was extremely worried about FL's relationship. I believe she even mentions how ML is so top quality that he will easily attract many people's attention. However, that's just a parent's worry. FL's mom is also very understanding, as she knows ML and FL's character, and wishes for her daughter's happiness.

6. Wrong info that FL winning the Olympics at 14 or younger.
Spoiler

This info must've been skimmed over, but FL won the world championship at 14, and the Olympics at 16. Moreover, while this may seem quite unbelievable, the Olympics have had 10, 11, 12, and 13 year old Olympic participants and winners. Why, just in the 2021 Olympics, a 13 year old girl won an Olympic gold medal. Admittedly, the author wants to make the FL awesome lol, and definitely skimmed over FL's 2nd Olympic win.

"Lin Miao always had massive attention online, from first winning the world championships when she was fourteen, to the Olympics when she was sixteen, and now to her dating."

This story had a very compelling and original way for our two leads to meet in childhood. It hooked me right from chapter 1 and I was racing through their childhood enjoying every second. The author did an amazing job of communicating some very adult and intense situations from the limited perspective of two precocious children. Highlights are: Their friendship evolves so they each follow different goals in life. The world building is sufficient. The small cast of secondary characters are well drawn.

Spoiler

I do feel the story stalled out about the time our MC rescued Little Ling. After that it became just one endless parade of perfectness. Our leads struggled and worked hard for all their achievements but it never felt earned because it was all communicated so quickly and conveniently. Her second win in a pretty famous competition was mentioned in one sentence and gone. After all those complex adult situations in their childhood it was like it all became much too easy in adulthood. Id honestly have liked it if shed lost once or if we saw him ever struggle with anything beyond his feelings for her. It also started to feel less real and meaningful when we spent more time hearing about how perfect their lives were through the eyes of netizens than the experiences of the characters. Can the last third of a story be a Mary Sue?

[collapse]

My personal criticism aside this is a very good childhood sweetheart romance. I really think anyone who loves the friends to lovers soulmate trope would find this a pleasant and kind hearted tale to while away their time. :) <<less
