my absolute favorite and it’s not even close. the novel that ruined me for other novels.

stayed up 24 hours to catch up to the translations and mtl’ed the rest (chapters are very long so even though the translations was at 43.1 from where i last read it, it felt like 100+). the mc is one of my favorites and i adore the ml too. however, what i enjoyed the most was the found family the mc has, from his basically 4 adoptive parents to his 3 close brothers. his step-sister is also quite fun to read... let’s just say the way she acts around mc is different from how she is inside (not in a bad way). his blood-related father is something else too. i like how the author decided... more>> to write antagonists, especially their endings. their punishments felt just right, not overly cruel but not overly lenient either. overall, though i sometimes get lost in the business talks, i very much enjoyed reading this novel.

the translations that are available are 10/10. the mtl is on the line of readable and bearable.  <<less

(*looks at lwj*) well, he certainly shows his passion during the bed scenes. speaking of the bed scenes, i honestly was pleasantly surprised on how explicit and kinky they are considering the soft vibes that the novel gives off. can’t remember them all, but 4 of the explicit scenes are at chapters 66, 72, 73, and 77 for all my fellow degens.  <<less

tbh, wwx is not on the list of my top mcs. he’s a little too self sacrificial for my taste, always playing the hero, even if the situation did not call for it. i personally didn’t like how he handled *that* secret, but ig the author needed to have a big buildup somehow (and i admit, it was pretty satisfying when everyone found out). however, that is not to say i don’t love wwx. he’s incredibly intelligent, speechlessly shameless, soft to those he cares about, and ruthless to the ones who hurt them. i think i would’ve liked to see the wwx who was brought up by his parents, free and unshackled from the jiangs (and by that i’m looking at you yzy). although highly unlikely, mxtx please make that au happen. pls. 

anyway, other characters are great. my favorite ml is here, along with everyone’s beloved shijie. the juniors are adorable, there is a scheming ho, and lqr spat out the adequate amount of blood. plot is great, the steamy parts are also here, and the couple dynamic is to wait 13 year for. would recommend if you for some reason never read this before.  <<less

not bl, but i highly, highly recommend it. there are so many lovable characters. we have our adorable puppy fei liu, our cinnamon bun xiao jingrui, our princess but not really mu nihuang, our meng-dage, our water buffalo xiao jingyan, our favorite mother concubine jing, our little marshal lin shu :’(, our beloved strategist mc mei changsu, and so so so many more. the plot is absolutely engaging and the revenge is very satisfying. please read it, though keep in mind that the tragedy tag is there for a reason. ... more>>

i read this a long time ago but i remember really liking it. while it might not be as good as the others, this novel... more>> holds sentimental value to me. bits of what is in it are strawberries, a scooter (?) with a terrible paint job, one-sided rivalry, birthday cakes, christmas apples, first tim—, and omg they were roommates. the plot is nothing revolutionary and there are some things i would’ve liked the author to touch more upon, but i mostly read for character relationships and i’m satisfied with the main cp.  <<less

read the tags and trigger warnings before starting this one. though ml was adopted and they’re not blood related, in the eyes of outsiders, mc and ml are brothers and grew up together. mc is obsessive while ml lacks empathy for others. there is also r*pe between the two, so if that turns you off, please steer clear of this novel. ... more>>

that being said, i endured the pain for dozens of chapters before i could see some signs of the sweetness ahead. was it worth it? idk, but it was very memorable and i remember gushing when the two finally got together. they deserve each other tbh. i’d prefer if there are more moments after they got together, but i love this novel nonetheless.   <<less

you know... priest novels are kind of a hit or miss for me. all her characters are very well written and her writing is no doubt top notch, but i either don’t like the setting the novel was taking place in, the plot, or the main cp. i wasn’t planning to read silent reading, or mo du, because i don’t like modern crime solving novels, so i put it off for a long time despite seeing it completely translated by one of my favorite translators. then i got bored, had nothing to read, and decided i might as well try a few chapters or two of this novel. ... more>>

and wow. a few chapters turned to a dozen, a dozen turned to a hundred, and before i knew it i was up all night and day binge reading the entire thing. everything in the plot seemed to connect; the reveals of the motive, the killer, and truth were written in a way that made sense, and priest didn’t drag the cases on to the point where i would get bored. i felt like i was entertained for a good chunk of the chapters. 

the main casts were well written. everyone needed to work as a team and it wasn’t just the mc and ml that was doing the work. the romance was cleverly woven into the plot; throughout the cases we see the main cp grow closer until the tension between them snapped and they finally got together. i like how both teased the other, showing that the interest went both ways. not gonna go too in depth on them though as it’s better to read it and find out yourself. 

while there are some questionable things and flaws in the novel, i really enjoyed reading it and would recommend for any who like this genre (and for those who don’t, just try a few chapters first).  <<less
