Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amus**ent of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

This was one of my favourite novels to read. I read in a month and 2 weeks (I finished oct 11 2021). I was really amazed. It was really sad tbh I have a love and hate relationship with Kim dokja lol. SPOILER:

The plot twist, the characters, the wonderfully powerful and fully fleshed out female characters whose powers have nothing to do with b**b flashing. Good characters, good people, conflicted people and unreliable narration... This story has them all and more besides!!

Gorgeously rendered story with satisfyingly long epilogue to give further devastation and hope.

First of all, I think the strongest point of this novel resides in it's protagonist. Kim DokJa is such a charismatic MC: he's smart, cunning, a true strategists but so human, lovable and dense as a brick. It was nice, for a change, to experience a male lead who is actually... Well, interesting, full of flaws and not so linear.

And not to be rude to @ all the other male leads, but reading through DokJa's point of view is such a fun experience: having a character that isn't attached to... more>> an absolute moral code and that isn't afraid to appear evil at times (all for the sake of staying truthful to themselves, the people they care about and their goal) is refreshing, to say the least. I also found him incredible relatable, so ready to fight constellations and outer gods face to face, but still being hesitant and unsure when human emotions and a heart to heart conversation are on the table.

Second, the female characters in this novel are well-written. And there are actually a lot of them, which is such a nice surprise. I love action, I really do, but one of my pet peeves with the genre revolves in the female characters being there to just as a mere love interest for the ML. Here? In ORV the female characters actually help with the plot, they're powerful and well-rounded characters, with complex feelings and backstories.

Third, it's apocalypse time boys, there's no time for romance, we got answers to find, scenarios to complete and a whole lot of bad guys to fight. Although I do enjoy a good love story, sometimes in this kind of settings where there's so much at stake, any attempt at romance comes as half-assed. Usually, the rest of the plot ends up swallowing the love story and therefore the development seems forced and artificial. Not with ORV tho: there's no time for any of that. Although I can assure you the book explores different types of human conecctions, romantic love isn't the focus at all.

I could go on and on, but ORV is indisputably a roller coaster of a novel that you need to experience for yourself. The amount of times I laughed, cried and raged while reading... I signed up for an action book, but I got that and so much more. This novel has a certain depth to it: it doesn't conforms with great arcs, figthing scenes and mythological creatures, but it goes beyond that and explores the bond that binds character, author and reader together, and the symbiotic relationship between them. <<less

Hot damn, this story T.T Ahh, I cried so many times. The MC is too easy to cry for. Man, this was such a good story? There is a very obvious amount of love and care that went into it. All the foreshadowing and circular plot points felt very airtight? At least as far as I can tell. And I can understand it? Normally, when these types of tropes are used, it gets super complicated or there are plot holes everywhere. But it was very easy to understand! Even... more>> when the scale gets super huge. Also, all the themes in the story are super heavy! And they were handled very well! Depression, loneliness, abuse wow Also, I love the themes and how they all connect to each other, even to the medium of the story! I love almost everything about this haha. The found family, the adventure, the plot twists, all the feels man. And I especially grew to adore these characters so much.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this!

What I look for in most novels are good plot and character development. I can say that this one is really good at that. All characters that have major roles in the story were definitely wonderfully written. Their personalities vary and they don't feel like static characters. I really love stories that are able to give justice to their characters. Everyone in the story has some sort of backstory and they reflect well on the characters' personalities.

The plot is really interesting and gets a little more... more>> complex towards the end but I can still say that it was written properly and a lot of things were explained well. Of course there may be some things that were left unanswered though but I think the author deliberately left them like that, especially at around the end.

This was very interesting to read for me, so much that I actually want more but at the same time the ending for this story seemed fitting. Although personally, I really do want to know what happens next... >.<

BTW, MC kinda reminds me of Cale from tr*sh of the Count's Family (namely the self-sacrificing and wanting to save everyone part of them...) so if you liked this then maybe you'd enjoy that one too and vice-versa. <<less

Still not finished reading. But so far whenever I read I just cannot stop until finally something urgent come up like the need to use to toilet or I just fall asleep. The plot is so good and I love the MC. The story is a layers of mystery that just wait for me to uncover each layer that full of surprise.

I will update my review later when I finish.

It starts really good and strong until about 60% progression. Then it become somewhat boring and the pacing changes. From there on it have ups and downs in keeping me interested but I keep reading because wanted to know the ending. The ending did not disappointed.

the last book was eh. The first few books were crazy good. I couldnt stop reading and scrolling to know whats next, the characters are super good and the mc's halo is super strong lol. Barely found any loopholes in the novel, everything has its reasonings. Not an open ending kind of person so eh

One of the best webnovels I've ever read. It's so meta. It's like exploring an existential question of what it means to read and be part of a story. It's also nice since I can relate to lots of the themes and stories in the story since I've read a bunch of different genres. 10/10 would recommend.

Personally, I love this novel. This is absolutely gold and is one of my top favourite novels. If you're looking for action, character developments, a new world, I absolutely recommend this. Would also recommend this for people who had read 'Solo Leveling / Only I Level Up' or similar novels.

Twists would sometimes leave me in tears, laugh out; characters especially grew on me. It was a rollercoaster full of turns and twists.

However, I do admit some bits were a bit confusing, especially near the end. Nevertheless, the journey, the excitement... more>> as I've read through, left me no words when I've read the ending.

10/10 or a 9.5/10. Future readers, you're in for a ride. <<less

It's been a few months ago that I finished this and finally today I had time to write a review hhhhhhhhh

Geez, I love this story so much and I like seeing the development of the characters and their relationship to each other

It may seem boring at first and seem unreasonable. But in the end all of it is explained and BOOM, THE PLOT GO WRRRRRRRRRR. Maybe little confussing but yeah you can deal with it.

Gwhjsiajdh, the epilogue hit me like a truck damn it

I have just finished reading it. Still can't let go of the end but for me, I think that was the best way to end this novel. I gave a high score because I like all the characters and I love the plot.

I'm not exactly saying its bad. But it doesn't mean its good either. If there's one thing that bugs me while reading the whole novel (and I've read everything), it's the fact that you're forced to accept whatever is written in the novel. "It's already there, so deal with it" was the feeling I got for the most part. It was infuriating on my end because I tend to obsess on the smallest of details and everything just happened without precedence. I'm sure you'll spot quite a few of 'em... more>> once you read it yourself. Although it was explained, the timing was off, I guess. It was an okay read, nevertheless. <<less

First of all, I think that rating this novel one star may be a tad too much.

[I meant to click 3.5/4 stars, so apologies]

Of course, it starts off with the typical reincarnation. Kim Dokja, an office worker, realizes that the novel he's read has come to life.

... more>> He passes the first scenario, meets the protagonist, Yoo Jonghyuk.

But it gradually gets complicated. Along with the concept of modifiers, outer gods, regression and a bunch of other things, there are so many things I'm confused about so far, but it's probably because I haven't read until the end.

Along with the nebulae, 'stories, ' and scenarios, there's so many complicated things that I haven't seen unfolded. And what about the Fourth Wall??

Like someone brought up before, most characters like Kim Dokja's mother are discarded after their respective arcs. Han Sooyoung's Avatar-and-lost-memories-arc gets a bit confusing as it's only brought up once or twice so far, 300 chapters in. Some characters and locations - Peace Land, Murim, etc. Don't really drive the plot and could be built upon more (?)

Of course, that doesn't mean the novel isn't good. If you have a better attention span than I do, you might be able to catch all the details. The modifiers and the portrayal of the constellations in the Star Stream, along with the whole streaming system is quite well thought out.

I, personally, liked the poetic names, like [Prisoner of the Golden Headband] and [Queen of the Darkest Spring], along with the whole sponsor thing. I also like Dokja's personality as a whole, but so far everything's getting a bit complicated.

It would be nice to see the plot gradually unfolding, instead of being bombarded with twists at every corner.

But all in all, the concept's quite interesting, and I enjoyed it :) <<less

Absolutely unacceptable! How dare they end at 551 chapters?? I’m pretty sure it should have gone on for at least 3149 chapters! This is intolerable!

Needless to say, this novel was truly something that wrenched my heart out. From the way that each of the characters grew, the way the plot developed in an incomprehensible way, the vast setting, and the lovable side characters; I loved each and every part of this story.

As I read through the novel I enjoyed the way the author delved into what make us who we... more>> are. They decided that we are ‘stories’ and the author faithfully carried on that theme. Whether it be from the beginning when our MC first faced the tragic reality of his favorite novel ending or the glorious 5 part epilogue. He tackles each and every part of a story whether it be the core theme of one, the fourth wall, the clash between the writer and reader, the way a story is recorded, and so many other things.

The story tackles many things. From philosophical concepts of what one perceives as reality, the way a character’s psyche grows and evolves. The ways other world can so easily blend with ours and how we can never truly comprehend the vastness of the universe, let alone your next man. Excluding a good romance arc, the novel tackles each and every one of these concepts and explains them in the way the author perceives it. Because of this the novel makes no sense yet makes all the sense.

I understand why some people might look at this story and call it crap: the novel uses tropes from other stories, the unrealistic plot armor that mysteriously appears despite the impossibilities of it, and the sudden change in translation/translator. However, isn’t that’s the point if it all?

The novel itself is all about stories. Hell, one of the main powers one can acquire is literally ‘stories’. But I digress. The novel explains everything by the end of the story like any good story should do what he it be the plot armor, pupper characters, and unneeded side fillers. The rules of the world are never ‘broken’. And sure, there’s plenty of things that go unexplained or are simply incomprehensible. But isn’t that what makes this novel, this novel?

The setting can truly be incomprehensible from time to time. But isn’t that to be expected? What kind of a novel can perfectly explain another world through words? What we’re left with are just black marks on an expansive field of snow and our imagination.

From the beginning one cannot begin to fathom a person so how could they fathom an entire world? From my perspective, the novel isn’t a perfectly made dispute sequence nor is it an encyclopedia of a world made to teach you about the inner mysteries. No. It’s simply a story. A story made to communicate the themes and characters.

Thats just my opinion though.

All in all, this novel definitely makes it into my top 5. From the random tropes from other novels are thrown into the already messy pot of the plot. From the way there’s the subtle sub-context of other themes and sub themes. From the at that it faithfully sticks with and already complicated setting yet still manages to stick with it. From the ridiculous MC who is comprehensible yet incomprehensible. And the way this novel throws monkey wrenches into whatever one thinks. The ridiculous, indecipherable twitch viewers, and the hilarious sub-arcs made this journey both a confusing yet stellar ride. ;) (Pun semi-intended) <<less

I finished reading this novel (including the side stories at the end) a while ago and it is no doubt one of the most memorable novels of this type for me. The story is quite convoluted, chaotic, and very creative with lots of details here and there, which eventually got resolved/explained/pointed out as things went on. It was true that the beginning was pretty typical and could be confusing/boring but things heat up and get really interesting later on. This is the only novel I saw so far that went... more>> above and beyond the challenges in different arcs and because of that, I love this one much more than Reincarnator, which I like. Characters development are huge and pretty much cover all of the most important characters, and the characters in this novel are definitely not the typical type of OP characters. Instead, I see the vulnerability even in the MC and the original “MC” and how everyone struggle to the “perfect end”. By the end of the novel, I was really attached to most of the main characters (there were quite a lot) and couldn’t help cheering them on. The story gets better and better as I read, and I cried quite a lot around the end. I love the way this novel made me feel. It was an extremely satisfying novel to read. <<less

So far I’d say the novel is decent at best. There are a few points which are quite annoying, for example Kim Dokja’s constant self-evaluation, he’s embarrassed or ashamed by thinking of the characters in some way or is ashamed because he would give up on saving someone. Eventually someone would come and be like “it’s okay, I don’t know anything about you but isn’t it okay to trust people?” and he will be fine for like 30 chapters until it happens again.
There is also the fact that he is super weak throughout the whole thing, so far, there are very few moments where he’s actually a part of the stronger characters. He is always using some loophole or Yoo Jonghyuk to barely survive or he dies but revives. I don’t quite understand how he is narrative grade but still needs Yoo Jonghyuk to save his ass in every moment, I know he’s hurt but he should have recovered enough to easily be able to crush lower - upper grade constellations but has to run away from even the lower grade ones.

Anyway, if you are able to get through that I think it would be a decent read.

Those people giving really low reviews - did you really read all the way to the end of the novel? As someone who's finished the novel (and ended up going back to reread it several times - it's the kind of story that makes you want to go back to the first chapter and reread it all over again as soon as you finish) I can absolutely say that it's the best web novel I have read so far by a long shot. You won't regret reading it. (There's also... more>> a manhua now - you won't regret reading that either, the art is god-tier and does wonders for the story)

It's a kind of story that will hook you in easily, feeding you hints and suggestions of future arcs and characters all the way through - the story doesn't stagnate and end up in a repetitive plot loop in a way that fantasy/action web novels often do, there's a clear direction the characters are always heading in. The MC survives to the best of his ability, and as a reader, you learn more and more about the Star Stream and the premise of the world-line the more you read, and there's a "final goal" that the MC clearly creates for himself and his companions, and it gets beautifully developed on especially towards the end.

(The ending... you'll cry multiple times when reading this novel, but it's so worth it. You'll laugh a lot, too. It's going to grab your emotions, pull them up from the forgotten depths of your soul and make you feel in ways you rarely feel in real life.)

I honestly didn't even notice any abundance of plot armour/deux ex machina. If there was any, it's nowhere near enough to spoil the book, and honestly speaking, you'll want the characters to survive (

There's something called "Probability" in the novel. I'm not sure whether it was intentional or not, but it's almost like an explanation for plot armour? It's very cleverly used, though at other times it seems a little random, but overall it's another good addition to the already detailed worldbuilding of this novel.

The setting is amazing. You can tell the authors put a lot of thought and effort into it - it's not a kind of setting that results from an author building up the world as they go to fit the storyline (and as a result, it rarely - if ever - ends up clashing with a previous arc or plotline, they work very well together) - the plot and the setting are both intertwined in a way that is both easy to comprehend (as long as you pay attention while reading) and detailed enough to draw you in.

Overall, this novel is an absolute goldmine. It's definitely popular, and it's easy to see why. Read it!! You won't regret it. (Take a pack of tissues and a punching pillow with you, though) <<less

The best Korean webnovel targeted toward males.... ever.

Story setting? f*cking amazing. You basically pack as much world mythology in it as possible, and that makes it super interesting in seeing how all these different mythologies interact in the same world. The world itself is incredibly interesting. Its a world of stories, where stories have power and exist as individuals. What a good idea.

Plot? Pretty good. It's a bit off here and there, but overall, its cohesive and well planned. You keep reading to find out what will happen.

Powers? The MC's... more>> powers aren't OP. He's actually just mediocre in power levels, and not that high. There are hundreds of people more powerful than him, but he mostly uses strategy to win, instead of overpower.

Characters? Extremely well written and developed. They all have unique character traits and personalities. They don't feel flat, and almost all of the major important characters have some development Arc and evolve and change in some way. Especially the main character and the MC of the novel itself. They have the most development and its really intriguing.

5/5 stars. If you like good stories, read this. Its the best shounen (?) korean webnovel out there. And the ending? Well, its one of the few webnovels out there that doesn't have a terrible ending. The Author actually knows what he's doing when writing the ending. Yeah, I know, its weird for webnovel authors. <<less
