Basically this is a cryfest-guaranteed kind of story. Both characters are lacking, but they try their best to be better. I find the concept of the ML regressing quite fresh. ML is an as*hole in the past, and sometimes I don't know why he can be that awful for little-to-no reason. And MC is such a pushover and I often can't understand why he chose what he chose. I first read 10 chapters before dropping it. But then I read the webtoon and found myself enjoying it more than expected,so I gave the novel another try. And boy... It's absolutely a good decision.... more>>

One thing to point out is that the webtoon skipped and even changed a lot of things (and orders), and obviously the rating. While the gist of the story still remains, the relationship between the MC and ML takes a very different route.

The novel is basically... 80% plot and 20% romance. It centers around how the MC and his friends try to defeat the final boss at the Tower of Test, and holy smoke, it was such a blast.

One thing as to why I don't consider it among "the best" is because, sometimes I found MC's way of talking annoying. And there's a point in the novel that makes me think that all the tears I have shed was in vain. I was quite disappointed. But the ending was beautiful and the lack of romance (and some action) was well paid off in the side story. <<less

There's some parts that feel so deliberately done, and I couldn't help but think "how convenient!", "no way that could happen by chance" etc. For example, when MC and ML first spent the night for the first time together, it just so happened that MC was in heat, he was in isolated recuperation, ML was in house-arrest, the empress was away for some time (for something that didn't actually produce anything to the plot), etc. It just seems deliberate and I couldn't help but be skeptical.

HOWEVER. I could confidently say that this novel is among those that dangerously ALMOST cross R18 line. The s*xual tension was amazing, and I couldn't help but wonder for so many times how it's not mature rated.

But thankfully the webtoon now is mature rated, haha. So the future (skipped) smex scenes would be included uncensored! <<less
