As the loyal hunting dog of the king, Oscar of the Serpentine ducal family is well-versed in dark sorcery. The second son of the Serpentine family, he confronts a looming disaster trapped in the most secret part of the mansion.

“If you release me now… I’ll spare your life at least.”

Zachary Thaddeus.

The moment Oscar met his blue eyes,

he realized he had been reincarnated into a bleak fantasy novel.

Zachary, a prince of the Holy Empire, was kidnapped by the Serpentine family and mentally broken,

becoming the protagonist who later tears the Serpentine family and the kingdom to shreds.

To survive, Oscar must break the brainwashing on this impending disaster.

After desperately undoing the brainwashing on Zachary,

Oscar chooses to marry to escape from the Serpentine family himself…

only for Zachary to return and burn down their honeymoon home.

“Fu*k, you say you released me? You abandoned me.”

…?

“Was it so horrible just having me by your side? I asked you to let me stay close to you!”

…???

What should I do? It looks like his curse isn’t completely broken yet.

It's good, but also lackluster.

The romance part is wayyyy too late to come ... more>>
Spoiler

we have to wait until the chapter 90 for the ML to FINALLY have a personality and start talking again bc before he was under the influence of mental damage. Before that the plot is... well absolutely nothing happen. And even after that, it's reallyyy slow.

[collapse]

It's just way too slow, which would have been good if the book was longer, but here it just seem unbalanced.

The plot is basically nonexitant either too so well.

Read it if you want to pass time, but not if you enjoy a complex romance / plot. <<less

The ML: Zachary Thaddeus

My brain: *Smirks*

Me: No.

My brain: Zachary...

Me: NO.

My brain: Daddy-eus.

Me:... that's not even a good joke.

*cough cough*

On another note, I'll just set up my tent here until there are more translated chapters.

E-yup, I'm waiting. Waiting for translator-san to release another chapter. If you go by the date of me writing this review, and compare it with the then latest release, then you may notice my eagerness to devour yet another chapter. Anyways, I guess that must speak for itself on what an awesome work this is. Maybe this is a veeeerrry early verdict, and I could very well be proven wrong in the near future (because the MC-seems to be a bit of wimp) and in the long run, the content... more>> might become repetitive as well-a common reoccurring theme in "most" NU novels, except for a select few; but for the time being, I'm sticking with my initial analysis:This is a novel that's too good to put down. And we are well into building that suspension-well there isn't much suspension after the initial foreshadowing done by ch1-3 and the plot synopsis as well, but still-I'm wondering how the MC is gonna be undoing the "curse" on our beast of a snow-white ML and how in the long run is he gonna be bending him (ML) to the point of completely blackening him - making all our MC's "predictions of the future plot" come true but all in the wrong direction.😂

Anyways, I guess that's onto us readers to wait and find out. But yeah, thanks translator-san for picking up this gem of a novel to translate. And welcome to the NU fam😁You are doing an awesome job at translating this series. Keep up the good work. 👐 <<less

I'll give it 5 stars since I love the characters. Oscar is lovable and it's hard not to like him as a character, while Zachary is your classic crazy but obsessive ML who doesn't care about anyone or anything except for the MC.

Though the plot toward the ending is hella frustrating because of usual prolonged misunderstanding, the story overall is beautiful.

And I really, really liked the side story, the smut there was amazing and f*cking hot. Especially when they did it in the snake passage (?) holy sh*t 🔥🔥

I think the side story is making up for the abruptness of the main story's ending. It's just so good and beautiful.

I would totally recommend this. Don't ever let the slow pace at the beginning stop you from reading this story. <<less

Tbh, the story would have been more interesting if the protagonist is Erhan and not Oscar (mc).

The MC's personality is sooo naive and annoying. Sure he's smart, soft-hearted and your natural white lotus bottom. But he's so stuupiiid. If looking at it in another perspective, I could even describe his plan to undo the spell on the ML as betrayal to his own family.

I know the Duke is not a good person, but it's obvious that he treated Oscar quite well. His personality is just cold. The only thing annoying... more>> about him is that he treated Erhan, his biological son, harshly. But for Oscar, I really think his actions and mindset is foolish and naive. He knew the ML is powerful, he knew the ML has the power to destroy his entire family and the first thing that came to mind is to free him? Seriously? In a matter of life and death, between the family that you've been with for quite some time and the ML who obviously brutally killed your og family in the og story for revenge, you chose to side with the ML because what? You think he'll be merciful once you treat him with kindness and he'll owe you one once you free him, enough to spare you and your mother? Not to mention the MC isn't that kind as the others think at all, he even had the thought that it's enough as long as him and his mother were spared from the ml's supposed revenge.

Erhan on the other hand, has the potential to be a better MC, in my opinion. The fact that he never received his father's care, grew up with a disorder that made him dislike being touched and yet has to suffer from the pain due to the spells he put to himself in order to hide that disorder and soon softened to the MC because the MC is obviously the only one who showed care for him in this household. Not to mention, he's the heir of the Serpentine family.

If only Erhan was the MC and he's the one who's reincarnated, it would be much more interesting to see how he'll try to help the ML while also being the "villain" and enemy of the ml.

But to the MC, it's not much of a challenge since he's obviously not the biological son of the duke who tortured the ML and the ML immediately fell for him upon first meet because... uh? His face (girly and beautiful) ? Then later ML became obsessed with him because uh? he promised to save him (even tho he obviously failed the first time).

Let's all admit it, the ML is a Stockholm syndrome patient and a yandere that doesn't really know love. He's obsessed, that's all. <<less

The author has a way to display Oscar’s naivety while still being able to display other people’s perspective through their actions. I guess the undertone of certain characters are really interesting while the MC is well sadly very weak and because of his transmigration he low key stubborn on his beliefs. By the same token he is kind of charming. It’s frustrating but cute at the same time. He is not dumb but has very low self awareness due to not really interacting with people.

Characters are complex and gray. Room for exploration and development. Protagonist is frail, but determined and tries to do things out of his power, still succeeding despite being hurt and damaged afterwards. ML has had a difficult life and acts like it. Looking forward for more development.

(The rating is for the story, and not the translation. The translation is excellent!)

This story was promising initially but like other reviewers Pcome and IrregularPer, I'm dropping it after 109 chapters. I really struggled past chapter 100.

It might just be a matter of taste. The ML shows all the signs of being a future extreme yandere. Without being too spoilery- he exhibits loads of the usual red flags and toxicity, and while I'm all for the wife-chasing-crematorium genre, I have a feeling MC is too naive, weak-hearted and... more>> clueless to realize he's a frog being slowly cooked in a boiling pot.

The first time they interacted sexually, I felt genuine disgust at what happened, and this is from someone who regularly reads dub-con and has zero issues with the concept in fiction.

ML started as a wronged individual and you do feel supportive of Oscar's efforts as a reader as he tries to make amends and rescue ML before he could blacken and destroy his family, but then ML devolved into a scheming, manipulative conman who takes full advantage of the MC's guilt and lowered defenses against him. Granted we have omnipotence as the reader, but MC also frustratingly waives away all the obvious clues that ML is not as innocent as he seems, under the excuse that it's normal for a "servant" to be that way. He has no backbone or conviction in his own sense of self, which ultimately destroyed all pity or forbearance I had for him.

I did like Oscar at the start, and felt a little maternal towards this kid who's trying desperately to help prevent a future calamity from destroying his beloved mother, stepbrother and to some extent, his stepfather. He really loves his mom, and he tries very hard to get along with his stepbrother even though he's just a transmigrator. Hence why I felt doubly hurt that he is toyed with so cruelly by the ML, but I suppose that is to be expected with yandere emotionally abusive MLs.

In short, stay away from this novel if you're against red flag yandere tops and naive, gullible bottoms who will eventually end up in the top's spider web. But if that is your thing, then I think you'll have a grand ol' time with this piece of work. <<less

Oscar is doing his best to 'free' the Zachary for the best perceivable outcome. Oscar's a soft soul who ardently puts in the effort for many years to come... I also enjoy the complex family dynamics, but I stopped vibing with the story- ... more>>

after Zachary regains his consciousness. We get his perspective of how it was not only painful, but comfortable to give up his free will.

Zachary remembers their past interaction, and develops a selfish possessiveness for Oscar who is incredibly concerned for the him. He's is anxious that if he regains his freedom, he will inevitably be separated from Oscar. Zachary desperately doesn't want this, and subjugates the very man who cursed him to reinforce his current relationship with Oscar.

Zachary 's deliberately harming himself to keep Oscar's attention on him. And he's taking advantage of Oscar 's concern for him to mol*st, isolate, and intimidate him. He feels guilty and tolerates Zachary's actions so that he won't harm himself during these episodes.

It's intentional, and I hate it. Zachary doesn't explain his actions; except during episodes of heighten emotions, in which Oscar confuses it with delirium under the curse. This sort of communication is intermittent and is emotionally taxing and stressful for Oscar.

Zachary wants to isolate Oscar and doesn't explain why he's disturbed by Oscar smiling at his family, getting assistance from his stepbrother, or writing letters to friends. To Oscar, these are inexpiable reactions that he accommodates and caters to.

Oscar is also unsafe around this brute given his weak constitution. Since Zachary's regained his consciousness, he's pinned Oscar down regularly, given him bite marks that are slow to heal, etc.

And Oscar's attempts to communicate with Zachary has been ineffective with convenient memory loss or derailed with heightened episodes.

He acts impulsively and sabotages Oscars's deliberate lifestyle by acting out. And because Oscar accompanies him during his episodes, he's weary. I don't think Zachary is faking his episodes, but he's taking advantage of it to mol*st Oscar.

ML is utterly detestable and I'm surprised that this doesn't have tragedy attached to it's title. This is just miserable with a kinky flavor.

The writing and translation is excellent, but doesn't excuse the twisted romance this story portrays. <<less

Ya’ll know that you can rely on Blossom Translation for a SCRUMPTIOUS little transmigration treat. Not many will serve and deliver to their audience like this. But loving the selection so far, the story is excellent, the characters have depth, the translation is great, the website is great. Tucking myself into bed with this lovely read.

I'm so glad, so glad I found this book. It's a true gem in my heart. However, this review is subjected to changes because I am only at chapter 56.

Every significant character in this story, except Oscar, is truly insane or borderline insane. There's a good reason why they all turn out the way they do, especially Zachary. If you are wondering if Oscar is involved with the brainwashing, no, he is not.

Oscar is your typical lovable, dense (in an endearing way), and good-hearted person. He has a very loving... more>> mother, but that love from his mother is only limited to Oscar. He has a good (?) family, but again, the family is only good to Oscar. It is a miracle Oscar manages to stay the way he is living with such a family, and witnessing the horrors that happened to Zachary.

It was really difficult to read through some parts because it was just downright horrifying or heart-wrenching. My heart really goes out for Oscar and Zachary.

The translation and writing is great. I love it. It isn’t overly complex that you need to dig your brains out for. You also won't need to edit the writing or translation in your mind as you read.

The characters have many layers to them. None of them has felt one-dimensional to me. The one that has yet to be truly shown is Zachary, but that is because he is completely brainwashed and mentally broken as stated. He is starting to show signs of breaking out from it at where I stopped.

If you came here looking for green flags and healthy relationships, nope. Just don't. Even the loving family inside here is not a green flag. No one is. Well, maybe except Oscar but even he might change.

If you came here to binge about insane characters (and possible yandere ML) with historical elements and world-building, and slow-burn romance, you can try reading it. That said, if you are the type to hate dense protagonist, Oscar might annoy you in some ways.

At the end of the day, it depends on your tastes. It definitely hit all my criteria for a good book, and it hit really hard. <<less

This is amazing. I love the plot and I am continuously at the edge of my seat on what's going to happen next. Even more so when the brainwashing spells really are that complicated to where it's understandable why MC is convinced that the ML may be still under them.

I honestly don't have words to describe the rest of plot without major spoilers. But this story does has a hint of thriller and horror without being it. The romance is like approaching a cliff on a speeding sports car that... more>> never seems to reach the edge. This story leaves you a little breathless with anticipation despite the fact that the initial scene in the beginning is still a little ways off.

I love this story the moment I read the initial scene. The build up to it is making me impatient but I have to read every word or else I might miss something important. But it's that right there that may be this story's downfall but I'm not too worry about it though.

Spoiler

It's downfall is that there may be too much detail going into the process of breaking the brainwashing spells that the ML is under. Reading how the MC goes about it isn't a hardship but it does become a little tedious after a while making it a little boring in someparts. But I'm not worried because the author uses a very well timed timeskip and summarized the process and I can feel another one coming very soon

[collapse]
.

The pacing of the story is smooth because of this. I honestly wished I found this story a few months later than now because I feel like I'm a few chapters away from a critical plot point! I feel so frustrated right now!!

Update: I was right critical plot point passed. HUZZAH! <<less

The story was good and interesting at first but as it continues it somehow got bad but not rlly bad, its kinda bad for me. The plot was there and the twist was there it just lack something. All the characters was good they are not the cringey type of a character well except for the MC.

The MC is too naive and innocent which it kinda didn't fit for the role of a reincarnator (i dont know if this is a word). Since I thought that the MC has reincarnated... more>> I expect from him but it turned out that his just so naive and innocent.

That's why at some of the story it somehow got less interesting and less thrill. It would've been better if the author somehow make the MC a bit more courageous and intelligent.

I like the ML he fit on my standard on how should an obsessive ML should act. There's nothing issue about him in my opinion.

Well this is all I can say, I did have fun reading this but I guess the fun didn't last long. If you like to read a naive MC x obsessive ML then I guess this is for you. ^^ <<less

Observations:

  • MC's past life isn't really relevant.
  • A good chunk of the novel (

) focuses on freeing the ML from servitude, though I didn't mind it.
  • The MC is really weak physically, personally, I wasn't that annoyed about it since the ML was there to help him.
  • ML's devotion is obsessive.
Even though the premise is the MC trying to save his family and himself, the novel is mostly character-focused, which is a strength.

Yeah, so obviously, content warning for themes of technically unwilling subordination.

Enjoy. <<less

This was really good. If you're hesitant just know MC isn't the annoying irritating naive type. Yes he is frail but not where it's for the plot, it makes sense a lot of it is backed up by reasonable reasons so don't worry about brain rot. There is a lot of up and downs if you just don't care if it's good or not you just don't want drama then ok don't read this.
