“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

Excellent novel that is able to actually give it's MC a story arc. The author strikes a good balance between fantasy world and real world, exposition, world building, and side characters. The side characters are one dimensional as is typical of web novels, but they're not all the same one dimension -- a concept that flies over most web novel authors.

I'm surprised by how much I liked this novel as I usually prefer something more high octane. This is the author's second novel with the same outline and it shows.... more>> My complaints would be it can be a little jarring using real world terminology in fantasy land (even with story context) and some parts can drag on (though never more than 1-2 chapters, very forgivable) but are comparably minor and do nothing to take away from its strengths.

5/5 -- My favorite novel as of right now. <<less

This is the best I read so far the character in this novel all act as a proper human will act on the situation given this novel dont have the magic of harem sh*t that every girl fall in love on the MC and male and female character almost have the same amount unlike other novel. Its an emotional roler coaster every character introduce have purpose and not like other novel that after an arc the character introduce in that arc will be forgoten after a new arc. And the... more>> world building is good to. This is my first time writing a review its just this one is so good that I want others to read it 5/5 for me realy enjoy it. <<less

I just read to the newest chapter currently (184) and it was as if getting out of a hypnosis, I couldn't stop reading.

This is hands down the best Novel ive read so far. The World is incredible, the character develepmont is actually amazing while losing nothing of the mystery and just the right amount of character progressing to keep you hooked for days on end.

This novel has some of the best character development i've seen in both korean and chinese novels. It doesn't follow the usual overpowered trope, but systematically and genuinely develops the main characters strength. It made me want to post a review, which i've never done nor considered doing before. If you want a novel that is interesting, actively world builds, develops the main character both mentally and physically, this is a novel for you.

Great read.

Too game like. Event-action-plot armor-growth. Typical webnovel writing. Nothing special. I just kind of sad when authors dont stick to a main story line. I understand how webnovel works but when author doesnt have a clear direction of the story and only add a lot of subplot to make the webnovel seem more interesting without considering cause-effect in story, the novel become bland especially considering plot armor stuff.

The intro was extremely jarring. It almost felt like the author threw something on the page to start the writing process and then just left it there. Don't let that stop you from reading it however.

Even though the intro leaves much to be desired, the information given is still pretty important to the rest of the story. The one thing that stands out about this novel is the consistency with which it is written. I've noticed a common trend with these types of long standing web-novels. The author usually doesn't... more>> start out with a clear plan and the novel suffers for it. You have characters that are there only for colorful dialog that the author wants to say himself. You have entire arcs that are painted over later as if the events that transpired before were only there to string the narrative along. Items, abilities and characters that were useful or important become forgotten and tossed to the side. That is not the case with this web-novel.

Characters aren't just backdrops, each one has a purpose. Minor and major antagonists are fleshed out; aside from the punk in the tutorial. There is a clear and present sense of danger for the protagonist in all major encounters. On top of this the author manages to paint clear and colorful personalities for the characters that are throughout the story. That being said, there is a lot to be desired. Despite the great character interactions and wonderful personalities that are being presented in the beginning. Only the protagonists personality really grows and changes. Most of the notable secondary characters show that they have wants and desires apart from the MC and they go along with his plans out of their own self-interest. This was a major tipping point for me in deciding that this novel was going to be great. However during the later half of the novel these self interests become muted. The characters that I had grown to love become generic tsunderes, yanderes or muscle-blinded idiots. I admit that its easy to fall back on these tropes as the character stales a bit but I was really hoping that this wouldn't happen with them. Two notable characters that beat this trend are the noble "Dylan" and the wonderful "Agnes". This brings me to my next point.

The MC shows such grit and determination that the feats he is performing are almost natural. He is given excellent guidance throughout the novel so if he was anything but extraordinary we the readers would be pretty ticked. But that would have at least been interesting. As it stands now the main character is steamrolling everything in his giant suit of plot armor. He's given OP items almost willy nilly throughout the beginning of the story. This makes it hard to appreciate the things he earns later on through herculean effort.
Spoiler

When he came upon the "nest" he shouldn't have had to rely on "future" vision to find a feasible way out.

It made the achievement feel hollow, even if it was an awesome adrenaline pumping experience.

I could go on and on for days about this novel, because it was amazing and ticked almost every single box in my likes catalogue. It also could have been so much better.

TLDR: Guy fights against an alien horde along with his trusty buddies. Manages to befriend some unlikely people along the way. Has colorful interactions with the characters and is a masochistic trainer who takes an interest in lilacs and teddybears. He regularly smashes his head on evil rocks and often finds himself in situations that could have been so much easier and pleasurable had he just went with the flow.

TLDR the TLDR: He's an irredeemable sinner who can't seem to reconcile with his family. He's a savior who punishes the wicked. He saves the princess, fights ghosts, kills mole people, trains till he pukes and then trains some more. He's the golden boy with the golden rule who follows the golden path. Read this sh*t, its good! <<less

This novel is pure gold. Plot is really generic for a level up weak to strong novel. You have an average MC with cheat like ability that screwed up very badly and drop to the bottom of society due to poor life choice. He is given second chance to redeem himself in a new world. Sounds very much familiar with hundreds of similar light novel in this website. But what differentiate this novel among the rest is this novel has a well planned conversation among the character.

Each character has a... more>> strong personality to them. The conversation is very interesting, tied up very strongly to each person traits and characters, there are a few very strong conversation where the MC is asking forgiveness from the family and make me almost feels like the author has some personal experience on it. Most important is that most things happen on the previous chapter is not forgotten, none of the character is introduced and never appear again like other similar novel.

The main issue is that more often this novel didn't offer multiple point of view to explain what happen behind the scene. As a result it might be confusing for some, however if you read each conversation carefully the author left enough clues to guess what happen.

Each Arc feels different, that make the story different each time and not monotonous.

This novel is not for people that expect invincible, genius, strong MC, your typical Mary Sue character that most people prefer in level up stories. This novel is for those that prefer the MC is just an averagely talented person with some strong ability similar like Grimgar. A few times the MC become slightly greedy and arrogant only to be punished greatly next. The MC struggle a lot in this novel to the point of vomiting blood even during the training session. The MC has many flaws but that is what make it interesting for me as I really hate the stereotypical perfect MC most often found in Chinese novel. <<less

Great story and solid translations that unfortunately suffers from excessive dystopia, yet another as*xual MC in a world where everyone else is getting laid one last time before they get horribly r*ped and/or dismembered, bad guy plot armor to increase dramatic tension.
Even with all that, I gotta give this story props for being the best Korean entry into dark fantasy I've read, and I tend to judge dark fantasy very harshly. If you think the gripes below will not be deal breakers for you, I really encourage you to check this story out, because despite my frustrations I'm enjoying myself and cheering for the various characters.
So here are the gripes: and honestly despite my ranting these weaknesses feel more like traditional Korean melodrama tropes exaggerated for a dark fantasy world experience, so take it with a grain of salt if you like popular Korean storytelling
The Earthlings being transmigrated as mercenaries into this world are being so badly managed it damages verisimilitude, especially when the MC graduates training with a great deal of fondness for the various instructors who did their best to make sure everyone would die when they got into the field and had their first fight. I was halfway convinced that the human companies sending recruits to this world actually had a side deal to betray their native employers to the various invading species from other worlds, but even the blackest mercenary groups do their best to ensure their soldiers survive to maintain their strength and bargaining position, reduce training costs, and loot the battlefield to maximize profits. Not to mention these people were hired at the behest of Gods the overwhelmingly strong invaders are cautious of, seems unlikely the Gods would hire people they weren't reasonably sure they could trust.
I just want to read about one Korean MC who has s*x beyond the monthly fifteen minutes of missionary position allowed by Confusion traditions. Oh, no wait it's time to be a workaholic again and just feel kinda bad and judgemental about other people enjoying their bodies. You know what, for this MC lets take our reincarnated existence and avoid love altogether because your first lifetime without love went so freakin' well!!

The bad guys in this story are intimidating enough without having them shoot bullets across hundreds of yards of old-growth forests or having bullets that curve around corners into secret rooms or even having bullets at all, for that matter, since none of the Earthlings seem to be able to bring them over or recreate them on the world they're fighting for. While most of the characters in this story do a good job of fighting back and generally trying to not die, the slow-slow-slow stat growth of the incredibly underrated MC is getting a little bit old, especially since the author is repeatedly forcing him to be the hero at the tip of the spear. One example: MC, full adult male discovers a way to multiply training time so that he can spend the equivalent of 16 months in intensive workouts during basic. His physical stat rating afterward: the high end of low rating? Starting stats of every four and a half foot tall fifteen year old girl he needs to rescue: high end of high. Da f*ck?? Don't worry, in the three months of spear training, fighting, and working out since that arc before the last month of basic training, the MC's stats haven't advanced at all. Huh??
Anyway, if these sorts of frustrations aren't deal breakers, check it out. A genuine four-star rating awaits if you do.

Although I can't speak for the future this series is pretty good and has amazing character development.

The MC is a pretty despicable and has a gambling problem but because of an event he becomes desperate to fix his life and makes things right by the people he hurt and because of this you can see the MC going from a horrible human being to someone that is much better than they were previously.

Dont even get me started with the MC personality, hes a guy in his late 20s but still behaves like a teenager when a girl show slight interest in him, the author simply does not know how to write romance at all, but this has a harem tag so its expected, the story is good in the beginning but as it progresses more and more the story gets worse. But in the end I guess its my own fault for reading a novel with tags is dislike (harem)

It's not the most original. In the beginning the MC's gimmick is interesting but half way through the story the MC is presented with a mechanic that kind of makes it obvious the MC can't lose a fight, even if he struggles the reader knows that this trump card always exists and it kinda makes the story less entertaining. It also becomes super repetitive with how the main character gets stronger, as further and further in the story he stops getting better from actual knowledge or interesting development as opposed... more>> to just training for x amount of time until he is strong enough to beat y character. I will say by the end of the story I was reading cause I wanted to know who he would eventually end up with, and if that's one of the reasons you are reading I will say you will be pleasantly disappointed. <<less

As is common with many web novels, this one follows the stream of consciousness of our MC/author. World building is limited. Characters are a mix of 1D with a couple 2D ones. Characters that are not the MC never take any sort of independent action, as if they are robots that only exist to respond to the MC when called upon. Plot holes build up over time, including some rather glaring ones. All of this is quite common in these types of novels, as this is a power fantasy, and... more>> all that matters is the story is engaging enough that the MC's interactions with the world are interesting enough to keep me reading.

The gimmick of this novel is that the MC has his unique ability that while incredibly powerful, it is not an instant win card forcing him to be creative and thoughtful in various situations. Without spoiling anything, IMO the author runs out of ideas halfway through resulting in a degeneration of the story which I will now cover in the spoiler section

Spoiler

Again as is the case with many of these types of novels, the author builds up a world w/ rules and systems, then chucks them all out the window as if they couldn't be bothered to keep things consistent.

Our gambler MC can see potential good and bad outcomes with his magic vision, but he does not necessarily know how they will manifest or what to do with the information. He keeps upgrading his magic vision until about 1/3 of the way through where he upgrades his magic vision fully. Then, for some reason, the author chucks this ability to see fates out the window as for the next 1/3 of the novel the MC only uses the ability like 2x, compared to every single chapter. Maybe this would be fine if the world building was good, the characters were engaging, and/or the story was exciting. None if this is true, and IMO the plot holes in the world building really f*ck with the story.

Problem 1.) People come and go b/w the fantasy world and real world. It is emphasized over and over that only the MC thinks of the fantasy world as something other than a job. It is established early on that people will return to the real world for months at a time to enjoy their hard earned rewards. So about 1/3 of the way through the author stops mentioning this, and for some reason the huge cast of characters is always available at his whim and call.

Problem 2.) narratively meaningless power scaling. It is established in this game that there is a level system. While the MC has his power to see fate, he can't do what he can't do so to speak, aka his level is important. Halfway through we get a huge fight with the BBEGs where many level 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, and a level 8 show up to repel an invasion. It is emphasized that the MC has the same stats of a level 7. However despite this preexisting system, the MC is able to beat the 3 BBEGs no problem, while the other characters, including the level 8, aren't even able to properly go toe to toe with their god damn minions. This is IMO the turning point of the story. The MC, for no good reason, suddenly has the power to rival the gods when there are multiple other characters with much more power than him that have never succeeded at doing what he does instantly. He doesn't earn it. The author justifies it was the MC "pushing his limits", but when all the other characters are dying wtf do they not have the ability to push their limits? It makes no sense, and completely ruins the power scaling established since the beginning. In a power fantasy, this ruins everything as the writing is middling to mediocre w/ no more interesting conflicts where we feel the MC might lose something. It basically turns into one punch, if one punch had no build up of its villains and was just Saitama one shotting people all day.

The other thing that bothered me was that we didn't see how all of the harem members were gathered. One of my favorite novels on this site. The story is one of the best when it comes to blending real life with a fantasy. MC has great character development, it's one of those rare novels that you can really relate to. Story is great, plus there's plenty of time to flesh out all of the characters. My favorite part of the novel includes his strained relationship with his family.

5 star novel, if you haven't read it, I definitely recommend it, plus the translation is superb.

I really wanted to give this a 4 maybe even 4.5 until I read the ending and side stories that is.

The whole novel is about MC "going back" to the past to change the outcome of the War and his own future. On the way he even gets people on his team that were on the enemies side in the timeline he came from. So he changes the future of thousands of people.

But somehow he cant change his future with women? He has a girlfriend he really loves and doesnt... more>> want to betray her but somehow he ends up Drunk and in bed with other women from his team over and over again even when he gets locked up in jail or moves countries. He even goes back in time to prevent it multiple times but it only gets worse. What kind of bs is that. A solid 4.2....

It's really a good novel.

1. It has really good plot and story.

... more>> 2. MC goes from being a scum to someone with leadership qualities.

3. If u are expecting any solo level things like crushing/defeating someone all by himself, then lower your expectations, this novel is all about team work. Even when he went to a trial to get power, his gf followed him and tries to helps him.

4. MC is literally human, so don't expect any god like things from him.

5. Author tried to make MC hilarious, by giving him prankster title, let me be honest he is seriously lame. It's all forced jokes inserted. He is like those middle school kids who do cringe worthy things to impress girls.

6. My suggestion is to read up main story. All side stories are kinda lame to be frank.

7.

It's overall a very enjoyable read, as long as you can ignore some flaws. The main flaw is the main character's personality. He's supposed to be in his mid 20s after having had a pretty good life until gambling, but he often acts like a virg*n teenager. It wouldn't be so bad if the author was just going for a story without romance or s*x, but there's a pretty decent amount of it and it's introduced early on. Despite being in such an environment and with women throwing themselves at... more>> him, he acts like he's never seen a woman before. What started out as a 5 became a 4, and even while writing this review I'm wavering between 3 and 4 because of how annoying it is. There are other inconsistent and rather irritating things as well, like the author doing a great job making the world feel real and not always just rainbows and sunshine... but then having everyone
Spoiler

treat people as addicts if they want to choose to live in that world, even though so much time was spent emphasizing that it isn't a game.

[collapse]
There's also too much plot armor for my liking.

However, despite the inconsistencies, it's still a very worthwhile read. The author does a great job making things engaging and somehow manages to make the ability to revive people not just destroy any tension. There were a few scenes that were especially dark, and it was so difficult to put down that the sun rose before I realized it. If not for the problems outlined above it would be a solid 5 and one of my favorites... but as it is, it's relegated to just being good. <<less
