“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

Easily one of the best light novels I've read. I found it a tad bit slow and or unnecessarily verbose towards the middle on occasion but overall excellent story, excellent translation and editing and all round fantastic experience.

I haven't read too many light novels but this is definitely the best one thus far. Even better than Overgeared and EER in my opinion.

I finshed reading the main story and let me tell you

IT'S AMAZING TILL THE END.

This is my first korean fantasy novel and I'm damn lucky to have picked this one. From world building to powerups and ranks and special attacks. Everything is perfect.

MC's evolution is a thing to behold. The way his character is described by antagonist gives you chills and thrills.

Loved it!!

But why isn't MEMORIZE translated properly, I wanted to read the story of martial god.

A good story with a good ending, these days it's hard to get a story with a good conclusive ending that is not rushed.

Early chapter may seem kinda boring. But when you read more and feel the MC growth especially in the real world you will see that this story is not one dimensional isekai story.

From a gambling addict to a hero. It's a very emotional and funny journey.

I binged this and really like it! It's very enjoyable.

Setting

I like how the MC isn't completely removed from his real life and alternates between the fantasy world and the real world. A change of environment between arcs is always nice.

The plot armor is pretty thick, MC always never fail at doing what he strives to achieve, but IMO, it isn't bad since MC is always shown to be trying his best and knowing his place. At the very least, his achievements won't feel like they're miracles, even if... more>> they do, it's not overused to the point you feel jaded. However, the people he met and benefits he received, they are all pretty convenient to the plot progression. You'll have to turn a blind eye to that.

Characters

MC - He isn't frustrating, annoying or too unrealistic. There are instances that I don't agree with the MC, but it's more than tolerable. In the beginning, he isn't OP, and relies on his comrades. Only at towards the middle/end, he is OP. He also exhibits growth in character and thinking.

Side character - There are a few characters I grew attached to despite not really liking them at first, and there are also realistic scenarios where not all allies are helpful to the MC, but they don't appear so much to the point of annoyance. Overall, I like most of the side characters, but most of them don't really develope in terms of character.

Harem

There is not a lot of harem in the main story. Most side characters are girls, but the story never focuses on them trying to gain the attention of the MC, well, apart from 2 side characters, but it never never takes away the focus of the plot. It happens so seldom that you won't feel annoyance towards those characters. The real harem happens during the side stories.

Cons

Honestly, there are enough pros in the story that I don't nitpick the cons, where eventually I'd forget about them. One thing that bothers me is the typical harem story after the main story, so I stopped partway. There's only 1 best girl.

Spoiler

Binged this, awesome, what a good read.

Now, while I do have a bunch of complain, the one that makes no absolute sense was the contribution point. Like how on earth the sacred empress and co even gotten to level 8?? Like... wtf they did? prostitute themselves to the parasite to halt their invasion or something?

MC was like the first and the only lethal weapon to ever combat the parasite, while the other human was akin to some defective tasers that worship overrated gold coins. He did literally the impossible thing... more>> one after another and continue to be the only one to do so. At one point, it's like MC is buying a rifle, but he cannot have the bolt because he's not handsome enough. <<less

It's a weird review looking back at this novel. Since I enjoyed it and thought the world building / story telling was great I'll leave 5 stars.

However the MC is erratic for 200 chapters, harem is too large and rarely fleshed out and MC plot armor is immaculate. Plot point will be ignored for 100's of chapters to tie into later arcs and MC's behavior are explained but never explored (Which would of been so much more interesting than the power scaling).

I thought it was well written and fun but... more>> for some reason I had less fun reading it than others of similar premise. I think it's because imo the best girl of this novel was still worse than say the worst girl of EER. Still would recommend a read. <<less

I started the novel when the main story was completed.

I put it down for a couple months and came back when even the afterstory were completed.

There’s enough character development for two novels in here.

... more>> Read until the very end of the afterstory, and you’ll find that the author tied up as many plot holes possible, some of which I completely forgot were there before he revisited it.

I aspire to write a novel at least half this good one day.

I’d put it up there with “Everyone Else Is a Returnee”, and give it 6.5 stars if I could. <<less

absolutely enjoyable, its my favorite out there, there's some plot hole, but can easily ignored, which novel who doesn't have a plot hole tho?

it's a fckn emotional journey, the villains are good, they're not beaten one sidedly. Yes the MC got plot armor but its a logical plot armor.

at the first you maybe confused, "why the MC like this? " "Why is the god like that? " But just read it, you gonna understand later

the conclusion it's 10/10🙆‍♂️

This is definitely the best novel I have ever read in my life, 25 years, this is the only novel that can moved my heart, make me laugh, smile, mad and cried. It's truly a masterpiece.

The novel is not a cliché action and adventure novel like the others, it's contained deep and meaningful stories that really related to real life. This novel make me, a person who was usually viewed as a "real wise guy" by people, realized of how immature I'm by looking at how Seol turn himself from... more>> a scumbag at the bottom of the society to a wise man, a respectable leader, a responsible husband and a faithful son.
Truly a satisfied and worth-remembering journey.

I would like to express my gratitude to the author who have give us this masterpiece.

Thank you. Thank you so much. <<less

It's a good novel, no doubt. The MC of the novel is kinda interesting as he is both smart and s*upid (for real and it does get frustrating). One thing I really like about this novel is his journey to redemption (for the things he did on earth) and I was really glad to see how it concluded. Plot wise, it is rather good but the quality kinda dropped a bit towards the end. The side stories are mostly light-hearted and borderline parody.

The novel is one of my favorite novels in my list. The author makes pretty much zero plot holes, develops every character to connect with the main characters, and crafts such a vivid world that seems to beckon the imagination. Although the beginning seems cliché, the author quickly escalates the situation in a controlled yet exciting manner.

If I have to describe this novel, I would say that this is a 'Diamond'. The Main and side Characters are amazing and have their own personalities. The training arc is just amazing. And the character development is even more so.

Now if your going to read this fine piece of art I would suggest that you understand our MC mindset when he interacts with other female characters. Because a lot of people complain on how much a pu*sy he is and whatnot, and maybe you'll think of this to... more>> but please bear with me here (though in my opinion dropping a novel because of his way when interacting with women is just immature to me). Reason no 1. Our MC thinks that he is tr*sh/scum and not deserving of any praise, even if he did a good thing. Coming to the realization of every bad thing that our MC's done to his family and ex in the early chapters, When you experience that, it is very hard to move one and get out of that rut.

Reason no 2. Our MC just betrayed his own gf for multiple times! Of course he's not going to get instantly over it, then bam! Alpha MC when someone throws herself at our MC, that! And the war against Parasites,

Spoiler

For example when our MC went to give the anti-evil ice power to the mage that he recruited (Eun Yuri) he explicitly says that he get's tired too. With him moving, preparing for future wars, and fixing his relationship with his family.

[collapse]

Now Character development. It will come, but not instantly, Our MC's Character development spans for the whole novel. And yes even side character get some too.

Now to the main problem. His child like attitude. Honestly I don't know why people don't like this kind of attitude. It's kind of refreshing to have an MC that know how to actually have fun for once, not just a hard boiled protagonist that wrecks everything that he likes (although he has this kind of trait too but on a somewhat smaller scale) or a naive guy who's shy to interact from everyone.

Although he still has some flaws here and there, was there ever a rule for a protagonist to be perfect in everyway? That's all and thank you for reading my review. If your still curious please give it a read and don't give up half-way. <<less

One of best novel, if we're talking about my recent reading list. Plot well build up, world setting good enough but most importantly character development very satisfying. Honestly, sequence of events and twist kept me mesmerized. If we're compere this novel with solo leveling, then former way better then latter one. Even though ending not seems like proper ending, but I'm totally happy with this.

An amazing author and an amazing translator.

Synopsis is strange and doesn't gives any justice to this amazing read so I'll give it a try myself.

It's a story about a gold-hearted guy who lost his way in the world of gambling and distanced himself from his family when he suddenly receives a dream from his past self which was essentially a bundle of feelings and emotions and some forms of fragmented memories after which he decides to quit gambling and change himself and clear up all his past and present regrets.... more>> But the change isn't easy simply because one decides to. When he starts his journey to another world he has this MC aura given he got top privileges, an innate ability but along with it came many character flaws which he gradually corrected step by step either by himself or the people around him. He has his ups and downs, gains power to achieve his goals and at the same time got burdened with responsibilities.

Pros:

All his powers and abilities were gained through his hard work and he deserves every part of it.

Not a one dimensional mc

Supporting characters have their own personality, MC doesn't completely overshadow their existence.

Females aren't just for decoration and devote their whole existence to their harem king. They are around doing their jobs, living their life and loving their man.

Cons:

Dense af when it involves romance, his density is justified with reasons in later chapters tho. <<less

It's a good novel, but there are just some parts of it that I can't agree with, especially when MC gets really caught up in hero roleplay. Thus the 3/5 rating for personal reasons. Otherwise, great storytelling, great character development, decent plot progression, and overall pretty satisfying experience.

I'm going to spoil the first 20 or so chapters in this review, so brace yourselves for minor spoilers!

The Second Coming of Gluttony is a novel with a pained maain character. Seol Jihu is originally a kind and attentive man, filling all of the Prince Charming criteria.

He was born with a super power which allows him to choose the best course of action, by showing the right people to involve himself with, basically teaching him the do's and dont's of live. He figures that he could abuse it rightly by... more>> gambling. Winning a lot in the process and falling into a pit of gambling and alcohol addiction, the moment he strains his power too much, effectively losing it.

Many would get angry at the protagonist, for throwing away all the good things in his life. Like his perfect and gentle girlfriend or family, the moment he gets out of control.

However, many fail to notice how much of a b*tch addiction is. No mattter how good of a guy one is, make him starve for a week, and he starts biting his fingers bloody.

Not every main character is unbreakable and unshakeable in his thinking. Call it weakness, but nevertheless it is the weakness of man. Bury a white vest in tr*sh, and you start mistaking it as a part of it.

Once he feels all of the pain, regret and vanity his future self felt and sent back in time isn't simply a way to toughen up Seol Jihu, but an appeal to the unviolable core of his being.

The downward spiral of addiction is caused by the unwillingness of the afflicted to face reality, making them run towards gambling, alcohol and all the stuff that ruins your life.

Don't misunderstand, he is a bastard who couldn't see the graces life bestowed upon him, but that makes his fall all the more of a shame. It is one thing to see scum walk the path of no return, but another to see your perfect brother or boyfriend do the same altogether.

All this. Everything he did or messed up, nonetheless, doesn't change the fact, that he used to be a titan of a man! His vest used to be white, and everything he did used to be right.

If his former self could see him, wouldn't he judge him, count his sins and damn him for being such a son of a b*tch? Wouldn't he try to right his wrongs, even if the world regarded him as but a worm in a pie?! What makes his character strong, is that he manages to look in the mirror and deny the small man he sees inside of it all by himself. <<less

Really great story although the MC has that cliche naive harem thing going on... oh well. The fighting is really great and the training arcs are fun to read. The world is pretty cool and most of the characters are good, although the Japanese girl I find extremely annoying to read about. The MC's life while not very relatable to me still struck a chord emotionally. I find the MC's sense of humor and c*ckyness endearing but I will never really understand why he underutilizes his eye powers so much.... more>> That being said even though this is not my favorite novel here it is definitely written in a way that is way more fun to read than most novels I see.

Edit: Also, I have no idea how MC's personality changes so fast. Like I understand giving up one addiction for another, but don't you have to be kinda a sociopath to destroy your whole life for gambling? Like he was the type of person to give 0 f*ks about his family before with his gambling addiction... then he gets addicted to this new world and suddenly he keeps his priorities straight and never goes too far... I understand people are like looking out for him and stuff but it doesn't make much sense to me. Still going to keep at 5 stars because even though I don't really believe the personality shift you honestly don't really see anything about the character when he was a gambler so it's easy to ignore that part and just treat it as an unrealistic backstory. <<less

I swear this WN is absoulutely gold. At the start I didn’t have much hope for this WN, afterall it felt like a standard isekai; an MC with an op skill to determine what decisions he should make + feelings recieved from his future self which helped him escaped his addiction of gambling to another world. After reading past a few arcs I was hooked. This is not a power grab isekai story, but a harsh growth isekai story, one where the MC gains power through hardwork and hardwork so... more>> that he can slay a god. The MC is always learning how to be a better person, he is not always right, he made mistakes fall and stumbles through and that is great about this novel. A different isekai, its a tragedic world where our MC traveled to, but not too much despair. <<less

The best novel I've ever read in my life. This novel far surpasses other novels in terms of character development, fight scenes, planning and plotting, training maniac, suspense, etc etc....

Interesting start where MC looks pathetic but to change himself he gets the chance he was looking for.

All characters have their own uniqueness nobody is over shadowed by others and most importantly they grow continuosly with the MC.

Unlike others novel our MC is quite average but with the time he learns from his mistakes and develops himself as a ruler, he... more>> got the mentors and friends to support him.

Its gets more interesting when MC has to go back to earth to make up with his parents and atone for all the sins he did in the past.

Overall the novel is fantastic and something new which you won't find anywhere else.

And lastly I thank the author for his hardwork.

I really love this novel..... <<less
