“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

Born with “lucky eyes,” Seol has always been able to choose the path to good fortune. But absorbed in gluttony, he exploits his loved ones, runs from debt, and loses his powers. He tries to escape from his life on Earth and travels to the world of Lost Paradise, where he is forced into servitude as a wretched, but powerful warrior battling a legion of evil.

He dies miserably – but a goddess sends a vision of this terrible future to his past self. Armed with this insight of what he could become, can he redeem himself and overcome the horrors that await?

It's overall a very enjoyable read, as long as you can ignore some flaws. The main flaw is the main character's personality. He's supposed to be in his mid 20s after having had a pretty good life until gambling, but he often acts like a virg*n teenager. It wouldn't be so bad if the author was just going for a story without romance or s*x, but there's a pretty decent amount of it and it's introduced early on. Despite being in such an environment and with women throwing themselves at... more>> him, he acts like he's never seen a woman before. What started out as a 5 became a 4, and even while writing this review I'm wavering between 3 and 4 because of how annoying it is. There are other inconsistent and rather irritating things as well, like the author doing a great job making the world feel real and not always just rainbows and sunshine... but then having everyone
Spoiler

treat people as addicts if they want to choose to live in that world, even though so much time was spent emphasizing that it isn't a game.

[collapse]
There's also too much plot armor for my liking.

However, despite the inconsistencies, it's still a very worthwhile read. The author does a great job making things engaging and somehow manages to make the ability to revive people not just destroy any tension. There were a few scenes that were especially dark, and it was so difficult to put down that the sun rose before I realized it. If not for the problems outlined above it would be a solid 5 and one of my favorites... but as it is, it's relegated to just being good. <<less

This is the 3rd time I'll be writing a review for NU. First of all, this novel's amazing! Development, one of its main highlights, are written very well.

Spoiler

Family Relations

His journey to ask his family forgiveness.

Strength

Heck, he has a true development here. He even acknowledged some fights that he could've lost if not for luck. He even lost when that said luck ran out.

Plot development

There are times where he loses, unlike other MCs who always has Deus Ex Machina effect.

Harem

This will be mentioned in the side stories but I'm just surprised that the author did this so good. Fights on his harem, hierarchy, etc. It's not like they'll be just "Oh hey, you love Seol? Then let's be friends!"

[collapse]

All in all, a novel that I got attached into. Author-nim really grew up thanks to his experience from writing M E M O R I Z E (Which I'll rate 3.5/5. A novel worth reading. <<less

Thoroughly enjoyed the story, especially the parts about his family. The premise of two connected worlds is unique and despite him being absurdly strong, there were still many moments of pure despair. Like having absolutely no clue how he can overcome the situation. The only issue people may have is that it's a little too r*pey, like for every female character a random villain will think "I want to r*pe her". Not that big of an issue for me, but I can understand how this can turn off some readers.... more>> I enjoyed SCOG and only hope MEMORIZE will be translated soon for me to read. <<less

the plot is superb. I'm so immersed inside this little world of SCOG.

the most amazing thing I could point is the MC character development. He start as a tr*sh, and I could feel the struggle he need to go through to change himself. Thank fully people around him helps a lot. Not just that, the development of his power, the plot, and people around him also got detailed.

well if I could complain, it is about the ss. Here I wonder what I read from the wiki's (before I finished reading,... more>> I already looked up at the wiki to find spoilers bcs I couldn't stand it) and it turns out it all explained in the ss. I don't mind about the harem part, but it is too forced and rushed. I can't enjoyed it.

overall, recommended novel. Try reading it folks. <<less

(bear with my english)

Ratings: 3.5

Average Novel. It got pros and cons just like any other novel.

... more>> Pros: First character development. The theme of story is redemption. Our MC starts as a gambling addict who is a absolute bastard and has lost everything. After receiving feelings full of regrets and fragmented memories from his future self, he starts to change himself. There are some epic moments in the story and I got goosebumps reading those. (I rarely get goosebumps)

Cons: First of all, author didn't handle MC's character well. MC is a 26-27 year old man who graduated with good marks from top university. He then fell into gambling and lost everything. In some flashbacks, we can see that MC matured early (like when he was a child he took care of those orphan kids). He had a girlfriend in college and lived together with her for some time. But current MC became a dimwit, dumb, s*upid, basically those Japanese teenagers when it comes to dealing with a girl. I will give you some example-

    • He gift panties, bra to every girl and thinks its normal.
    • He put a ring into ring finger of left hand of a girl and thinks its normal. (Which was completely unnecessary)
    • He usually sleeps with his head into girl's b**bs and thinks its normal.
I refuse to believe a 27 year old man who had a girlfriend before and matured early does not know what these implies. Author also made MC's personality into a man-child who likes to make s*upid pranks. I did not like these moments in the novel because they were childish and did not suit MC's personality.

Secondly, its one of those novel in which protagonist has 5-10 girls after him, but their relationship does not progress. Then in epilogue, he accept them all, and have those 5-10 unnamed children with them.

Thirdly, Author tried to create suspense and mislead readers in a terrible way. (Like when yuhui was introduced, author mentioned, she smelled like his ex-girlfriend and even resemble her). Story is heavily influenced by Korean drama shows, like keeping identity of his ex-girlfriend as a suspense, and those silly pranks. These were the worst things in novel.

Lastly, translation is sometimes annoying. Imagine reading Harry potter books and full names are used, like "Hermione granger" "Ronald Weasley", even during conversations. This happens every time in this novel. It looks they were trying to increase wordcount. I found it very irritating.

It got more annoying moments. For example not using his OP danger sensing ability when its convenient. When he has ability points and those elixirs stored up, and he is about to die multiple times. But author forgot about them for ending fight in the novel.

In Short, If you hate those Japanese spineless protagonist, then I would suggest you skip this novel.

If compared to rest of the Korean novel, its can be considered as a good novel. But it definitely does not deserves these overwhelming ratings. <<less

I'm not even sure where the hate is coming from. I personally liked it. I've read tons of novels (online) and the only aspect in this novel that was kind of half-baked was the "Organizations" and how the author made it seem like they're running the show but failed to capitalize on their dynamics. There wasn't any big arc on them and I personally think it's a missed opportunity because other novels, especially those about virtual reality games, make it clear how big of an impact organizations on Earth would... more>> have inside another world because of financial backing/manpower/city administration/powerful members, etc etc. The organizations that were emphasized ended up only three (for me at least), with two being in the same city, when there're 5 cities (?), excluding the Capital.

Still a must read for me but won't be in my top 10, I think. <<less

Yeah, I like the story. But I just hate his family so much. You have no idea how many times I wished to have MC cut ties with his family. I hate every single scene that involves them. I mean, it's a logical reaction for them, yes, but I just hate them so flipppppping much.

Ah, and harem is a bit annoying but okay, not exceedingly so.

I had wished the MC to be more mature, less dense and act more coldblooded. I swear I'm about to drop this novel if the... more>> author spent another chapter of him neglecting the Guide's note. And I just couldn't understand why he's acting like an immature brat in that parasite lab, wanting to save everyone and whatnot. Well I understand it's to show character growth later on but I seriously wanted to punch the MC in the face when this kind of behaviors happened.

Other than the above, I like this story and it's writing style.

.

Edit after reading up till c425:

Yep, I don't like the MC too. He's too dumb to be a protagonist. I'm getting increasing annoy by chapter. He has this amazing ability to judge a character's danger level and see if they are friend or foe. But no, a lot of times his plan failed and he struggled because some characters that he doubted a little but decided that they posed no harm came back to bite him in the ass. I'm so annoyed by the fact that he didn't even care to use his precious ability once or twice to check their color. Like, seriously??

And I also remember that particular plot where the goddess especially tell the MC to treat the princess well, but then he just proceeds to throw that at the back of his head and didn't even bother to contact her once. And of course the princess fumed and is extremely pissed, but then what? He proceeds to say harsh words and be angry to the princess without considering the situation at the slightest. The most amazing thing came afterward -- the princess choose to forgive him and apologize even after he threw a fit! Hey girl, I heard you turned the palace upside down for it and now you just pretend nothing has happened after hearing some not even close to nice words??? If this isn't plot armour/ harem energy then I don't know what is.

I saw a comment here that says it isn't possible to portrait MC as both SMART to devise plan but DENSE to romantic affairs and such. Yep, it is impossible. MC is just dumb as hell. It is even hilarious that the author say that he's brainwashed by his mother and his childhood friend regarding romance, like gifting female friends underwear and putting rings on their ring finger. Like what the actual f***???? I once again confirm my hatred to harem stories. Dumb as hell. I feel bitter about me missing the "Imperial harem" tag of this series. <<less

If I could I give it 4.5 stars. Not because this is a Master Piece nor the greatest novel I've read but because I thoroughly enjoyed it. The novel relied too much on the fate concept and thus the author does not handle well plot armor as its too 'on the face'. But is well written, is well balance in character development, names aren't too confusing like with other Korean novels (cough*Omniscient Read..) (totally bias comment), it has good comedy moments, and handle harem tendencies with comedy. But I... more>> repeat, if you are very picky this may not be for you. <<less

This is a great novel, if you got patience to read till the end (including side stories).

The MC was a gambling addict and caused lots of problems to his own family, breaking their trust again and again through various clever and emotional tactics. His life gets overturned when he met an individual, who lead him to an another world "Paradise". The MC tries to lead a fulfilling second life till the end, until he died on the battlefield. The MC was given another chance to fulfill his desires and find... more>> his path by the Goddess "Gula" for his outstanding records in battlefield fulfilling his contract.

The story is all about how the MC proceeds in his second life and how he makes up with his family.

There are romance, harem, emotional moments, tragedy and heroic battles, following with a lovely ending (don't ignore the side stories).

All you need is patience and understand the point of view of many characters in the novel! <<less

This might not be for some but I sure as hell loved reading this novel. The Second Coming of Gluttony is a redemption story of a man who was a backstabbing manipulative gambling addict changing himself for the better. I just love how the author was able to create a detestable bastard of a man and change him into this likeable protagonist that you just want to see more of. If you want to see how it unfolds then by all means, read this novel.

This is one of the few times that I've read ALL of a novel's side stories and extras. Like much of the novel, they're a natural extension of the narrative that references existing characters and neatly wraps up everything. This is also one of the few times I'm somewhat disappointed that the story was so good, since the author's prior work (MEMORIZE) doesn't appear to be fully translated (and the extras mention the other work's characters).

If you're into a seemingly irredeemable main character that takes 500+ chapters to achieve redemption--... more>> look no further. It was hard at the beginning, reading through some of the awful things that the main character did to those around him. Patience is a virtue here. Everything ties together, and everyone has a role to play.

That's not to say all is perfect, as the author readily admits through a character-cum-marysue in the extras. There is an entire chapter on ramen, the 'true harem ending' won't please everyone and the pacing can be... inconsistent. Regardless, there is originality here in spades. The worldbuilding and character development in particular make up for the occasionally cheesy dialogue and romantic cringe. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how few plot elements are 'abandoned' in the novel. The 'multiverse', familial and romantic clashes which at first seem out of place eventually tie together nicely.

The experience was not what I expected, given the first ~250 chapters. Still, it was an experience I'm glad to have enjoyed. Looking forward to Ro Yu-jin's next work. <<less

Well this "S. Korean Second Chance" WN kicks off in surreal manner, as it does a lot of vital little things to set itself apart from all the other group Isekai novels with game elements. Like the way in which our own world connects with the other and how Seol Jihu develops as a MC, rather than remaining a nuisance from start to finish. The struggle of having to go through hell is real, rather than taking the easy way out. Plus I certainly underestimated the "Yandere" tag, with the... more>> diverse range of crazy b*tches there are to choose from.

Just a shame Seol has to act dense sometimes, to enable cliché moments. Doesn't change the fact that this WN is full of well paced battles, with plenty of fulfilling downtime interspersed in between, culminating in a typical final battle. Followed by a batch of ramen & harem filled side stories, to end things on a light-hearted note. <<less

    • It is a hero-saving-world novel. So the hero-like MC's temperament is a little annoying but not completely, there are sometimes the MC has a villain temperament. It is likely the Writer's intent.
    • It is likely a rush-end at late in the novel. The opening of the novel's climax is not impressive (the second coming).
    • Sometimes his innate ability baseless disabled, which nonsensely leads to next scene.

Let me get this out of the way, the start is really bad imo. The MC Jihu acts like a generic protag from other isekai ln's and it's really hard to get through the first hundred or so chapters because of him. After that though, this series gets really good after its start. The characters I found really likeable and it has some pretty good fights.I'd give it five stars but the start lowers it down.

I finshed reading the main story and let me tell you

IT'S AMAZING TILL THE END.

This is my first korean fantasy novel and I'm damn lucky to have picked this one. From world building to powerups and ranks and special attacks. Everything is perfect.

MC's evolution is a thing to behold. The way his character is described by antagonist gives you chills and thrills.

Loved it!!

But why isn't MEMORIZE translated properly, I wanted to read the story of martial god.
