MC is not an embroidered pillow, MC is more competent than everyone who dares to say so.  He has Hyperthymesia, meaning he remembers absolutely everything... more>> he's ever done, seen, read, or heard and it comes in handy while also being a torturous existence.  His personality is cold and uninterested... but also not so much.  The crew he's set with would never solve any of the author's well developed time (loops, paradoxes etc.) Without him.  Although his condition is to thanks for much of it, it is his own intelligence and reasoning that can make it useful.   <<less

Paired with the ML who brings him out of his shell, this MC is intriguing and well... competent, more so than the rest of the characters.  He solves the cases he's given and solves his own issues along with it.  At no point is he helpless even when he should have been, for the fact that he is so well adjusted despite hearing the voice of everyone around him in his head and being kidnapped as a child, this MC deserves an award and a ticket to a stranded island. <<less

Debated on adding this but what he does at the beginning in terms of idleness can be summed up as him being simply unable to... more>> do anything else but be idle.  Furthermore, the MC is the librarian/bookstore owner of the game they're in and having read all the books in his shop and been to thousands of games he is undeniably the most knowledgeable about the world they're stuck in making his bored and idle tendencies interesting.  He's quite unsolvable so actually voicing his opinion doesn't happen often in the beginning.  Later, you will see how he is similar to a puppet master pulling on the players strings as he gets them to do what they should and forces them to understand what he wants them to know all while keeping in line with the rules.  For having so many limits he is extremely competent when it comes down to it. <<less

MC is indifferent to the point of feeling like he has a personality disorder the more it goes on.  I'll say there's a very very good reason for it in the end so don't mind it too much.  He starts off as well- an ordinary person, he's just some guy who has the feeling of almost being like a video game audience serogate.  Someone needs help?  He'll help.  He does everything without having too much of a personality or showing too much on his face and he is the most unordinary ordinary person.  Eventually, as there's no way you haven't guessed it: he's not that ordinary and is very overpowered which paired with his personality and indifference make how he handles situations end up well almost every single time.  Is he strange?  Sure.  But he gets more done than he should all while having little motivation to do so.  <<less

A different type of revenge plot that takes place because the MC is never at the front lines as a suspect nor is he at... more>> the front lines as an ally to many people's assumption.  He works entirely behind the scenes while going around and acting like the family's "screw up", going out drinking, criticizing his brother, slacking off at work, and handing off credit to his brother or others each time.  He has gone through this whole scenario before and is now fixing everything he couldn't in his past life in this way where no one can guess that he's doing anything unless he let's them.  Now, it's not as if he's overpowered, he has many issues along the way but due to his acting and understanding of everything around him he is the only one who can change the original outcome.  If you're looking for competency, he's got it in an interesting way. <<less

This novel is also by Mo Chen Huan so the intelligent protagonists crossover.  Like the Earth is Online the MC is someone with applicable experience... more>> in the problem they face later on without being outright overpowered or knowledgeable in the beginning.  MC has extreme yin energy meaning anything with lower yin energy than he has he can directly beat up and kill with his bare hands.  Where the daoists in the book will use talisman, spells and magic to dispell and kill ghosts our non-magic using mc directly and brutally tears them apart.  He needs no help, he is truly capable.  Although he has a lot to learn in the novel, he does not need assistance and many times in the book when people are initially going to help him realize he is either more powerful than them or can handle it alone.  This MC is quite capable all on his own, knowledgeable about the situation or not, if he's told once he can figure it out.  Watching him is wonderful, as you will never be worried on whether or not he is in danger.  High eq, iq, and strength. <<less

The MC goes into this book "Thriller Trainee" with only having read the first part of rhenfirsr instance and immediately after stopping he is transported... more>> in.  So as apposed to other transmigrations into books he is seeing something he does not have all the information on meaning every accomplishment there on out is due to hin and him alone.  World renound magician... don't let it throw you off of what the skills he has from that mean.  The title shouldn't be taken lightly, slight of hand for example, trickery, fast memorization, an amiable appearance at the drop of a hat are all things that turns out in a life or death instance game world come in handy quite a lot.  He has the skills and he can pull it all off on his own from this disadvantaged starting point on information.  MC works for himself and himself alone normally, so it if it wasn trhe case that he was competent, he'd fail far more often.  Although certain things will come easy to him the amount of other skill he has far far outweighs any handouts making everything seem deserved and making the story interesting to read and him good to cheer for.  He is truly capable. <<less

Everyone must follow their fate if they choose A, with all the rewards it seems to be the better choice 99% luck and continual help... more>> to win the game... or choose B and get 1% luck but you're free.  Anyone else it seems will not take the advantage because it is indeed difficult to be in camp B but MC's thought process and understanding of context clues brings him truly so far.  It's a game, he knows its a game, so why can't he play it like that?  Seeing him figure out the rules quickly is satisfying because it makes perfect sense each time.  Really, props to the author for the way they set it up each time because it never feels like a leap in logic just one incredibly intelligent person with problem solving skills and a menagerie of other things that help him oppose fate.  If it's "I can do it myself", no one fits those words quite like him. <<less

Thought about it for a while because he matches every other MC not so well in terms of themes- no MC is not an extraordinary... more>> Genius but he is incredibly smart, he doesn't save the world or have some master plan but damn in MC isn't confident.  Putting him in the list.  This MC is a lucky koi.  He's been reborn,  his life was full of misfortune and misery and he was doomed to spend it alone the first time.  Now that he has the chance to redo it with all his knowledge all he really wants is to not be alone, and he gets that.  He's not cunning or harsh, and he's quite kind but serious making people like him quite a lot.  In fact, him being liked is the most justified game I've seen in an entertainment novel, so you can root for him but he doesn't need it, things will work out this time.  It's like he's been given ungodly luck to make up for all his past misfortune this time around and no one needs to help MC, he is walking across the water just fine without your life boat.  This is not to say he does nothing, MC works so hard and makes improvements on himself still this time around, saves others when he knows they need help and finally... finally isn't alone.  He's with others but ultimately he does it alone.  I'm calling him a competent MC, he deserves it. <<less
