Dangerous Personality

After a bizarre kidnapping incident, Chi Qing unexpectedly acquired a mind-reading ability. His personality began to stray further and further away from the norm as he consistently failed his personality tests with: You’ve been classified as someone with a highly dangerous personality.

——Until he met someone he couldn’t read.

Only by that person’s side could he obtain a moment of peace.

Chi Qing had clearly been thinking nothing but “stay away from me,” yet what came out instead was: “…give me your hand. There are lots of cars on the road, I’m scared you might get run over.”

Xie Lin: “…?”

Wow. I found one of the most outrageous reasons for giving a 1-star for a BL. I mean, no matter which way I look at it, the title 'Dangerous Personality' and the tag 'Depictions of cruelty', don't indicate an appealing, appetizing and appreciative novel. Isn't a serial cat-killer in the same vein as a serial killer? Or are cats more valuable than people nowadays? No, that's not even the main point. Why read something that's clearly not fluff and give it a 1-star for not being fluffy? Even more... more>> outrageous is that, the author clearly didn't detail very much about the gutting of the cats. It was just routine descriptions of the case and somehow that is interpreted as talking endlessly about killing cats? The author didn't even provide the killer's POV. It was so tame. I'm pretty sure that person has never read or seriously watched a criminal investigation series. Or else how is this interpreted as 'too gross to handle'? Even more horrible things happen in real life. Don't people read these kinds of novels because they talk about cases like these? It's such an extremely biased review.

I haven't finished reading it. It's still ongoing so I'll update my review in the future. However, so far, it has a pretty immersive vibe to it. I like the suspense and drama~

Update:

I'm MTLing it. It's very nice! I love how the investigators inexplicably end up being similar to the suspects. The running gag is quite cute~ There's a deeper intonation to their actions. For ex, their qualities do make it quite easy for them to be criminals but their choices prove that they are good people in the end. So, it was quite ironic how the ML wasn't allowed to take part in investigations because of his psych eval. Oh, this is something that is made clear in the first few chaps. So it's not a spoiler. Anyway, this a good criminal investigation novel.

For those with weak stomachs, don't read it. More importantly, don't review it based on those skewed evaluations. Don't expect rainbows and fluff from this novel please.

I mean, this novel is about an MC who has zero empathy and mind-reading abilities. He gives zero sh*t about everyone else's troubles and inner pain. I guess you can interpret it as a defense mechanism. If he cares about every single person he reads about every day, wouldn't he go crazy and take revenge against society? So I feel he's quite sane by only having mysophobia. The other one is even more of a mystery. He can easily understand the mindset of killers. While that does make it easy for him to kill people, he comes from a family of police officers so he is more inclined towards solving cases. I find them both quite appealing and unique as main characters. But this genre and setting itself makes it difficult for people to accept it. Mm, to give an idea about how not normal our protags are, here's an excerpt:

"One of them will stare at the corpse expressionlessly when he encounters them while the other one keeps smiling even in the face of the corpse. I guess they do match each other very well."

Hahaha. This is how their colleagues view them. So expect reading about these kinds of not normal protags and their very disturbing ways of investigating. If you are not prepared to read about bloody and gory cases (tbh they don't go into detail either), then don't read it. Thank you very much.

Update 2:

Oh my God!!! These two are so cuute~
Spoiler

So, their powers are so linked to their personalities too. Like, MC can't feel emotions so his power is mind-reading so he can somewhat understand people. ML has read criminal psych books since he was a kid so he can easily understand killer psychology and his power became dreaming about the kills & keeping a lid on his dark personality. So, during their confession, it was so funny. They just complete this comedy sketch like confession scene and after that, since MC is such an emotional blackhole, he just had to spoil the atmosphere. Then the author did the most spectacular phenomenon of twisting a confession into a morbid scene. I mean, look at this snippet:

"In the end, Chi Qing said, "How did you come to the conclusion?"

Xie Lin's hand moved away from the top of his head, and then dropped, and landed on Chi Qing's wrist. He took Chi Qing's hand and put his hand on the fifth intercostal space on his left chest through the coat cloth. That is the position of the human heart.

Similar to the location where the cat's corpse was pierced in the cat killing case.

Xie Lin's hands were cold. His clothes were too thin today, and he suffered a day of freezing in pursuit of good looks.

But in stark contrast to his cold hands - his heart was beating violently.

The beating frequency was transmitted to Chi Qing's palm, and Chi Qing's hand seemed to become a kind of linker at a certain moment. He found that the heartbeat that came at this moment was the same frequency as his.

"From here, " Xie Lin replied."

It was so funny. They're abnormal people so here we have an abnormal confession that still ended up being cute to death!

Update 2:

Hehehehe. I love this~ This one is a major spoiler. Don't read it before you finish the book. I just wanted to fangirl so I mentioned it here.
Spoiler

So, it's revealed pretty early on that they were both survivors of a kidnapping case 10 years ago. However, they realize it pretty late. And when they start talking to each other about it, it ended up being so sweet instead of traumatic. Lol. Like, ML was talking about how he delivered himself to the kidnapper and tried to find a partner to get out of there. MC was speechless bcoz he was the one who replied to him in morse code that ML was being noisy then lol. Even since then, they were both quite peculiar. Moreover, I realized that MC may be subconsciously not evasive to ML's touch because of this interaction. Like, they escaped from the same traumatic experience together. So he's in a safe zone of sorts and hence, special. The foreshadowing is too layered. It was amazing.

My goodness, this turned out to be such a good read. I love both the main character and his male lead.

I also love the way they handle the mind reading. It's so refreshing!!

Spoiler

I especially liked how even after the MC could read the ML's mind, he realized that he was still special.

A lot of these mind reading tropes have the love interest remain unreadable, or only readable rarely. However here, the ML lets down his defenses with the MC which completely lets MC read his mind.

It's just so sweet!

Dangerous personality is a ridiculously accurate title for this novel. I love them both so much, but if I didn't know them, these 2 would definitely scare me irl with their conversations.

Their dynamic is a very common trope, ice cube MC x flirty but cool ml, however I think it was done really well.

It's also more comedic than I thought it would be. It's definitely not light hearted all the way through, but it did have some really funny moments. The author is a master at blending light and dark moments.

The pacing was absolutely smooth, I read it in a day, and never felt bored. This is definitely a crime novel, the plot is really interesting and well written.

The cases were so wonderfully written, I think they touch on a lot of very raw human themes. The novel definitely doesn't do a deep dive of human nature, but it's pretty close.

On the villain:

Spoiler

The villain, Z, has his own backstory that is absolutely tragic.

It was sad but also understandable. He's definitely not a 1D villain, he felt quite real to me.

[collapse]

All in all, I was very caught off guard by how good this was! Definitely reccomended it if you're looking for a good romance-crime novel.

Just be wary, some parts do have rather vivid gore. I've been reading a lot of horror novels for a while but the descriptions here still made me shiver a bit.

Definitely DON'T read while eating, trust me. <<less

Ahhhhh!! I am quite satisfied with this book. Nothing much to say but those who liked "Silent Reading" They will also like this book.

The interaction between MC and ML was sweet. I don't know how to express myself but I never regreted reading the book.

This novel is great.
The cases were very intriguing. I could actually follow the cases and make some of my own (albeit incorrect) deductions, since the leap from the hints to the deduction and conclusion aren't as big as some other mystery novels. I do think there are some plot holes, such as the MC's power (origin unknown) and the ML's brother's death, but case wise, there aren't too many big leaps where you'd think that the conclusion is to absurd to be deducted from the clues given.

Romance, great! They... more>> support each other and help each other improve throughout the novel. They fit each other really well, and notice things about each other that other people don't notice. They respect each other!s boundaries, and overcome them slowly together. One thing they could work on is hiding (plot related) things from each other, but the author handled it well, and I like them even more because of it. They find out by themselves anyways, so no harm done?

Spoiler

(Spoiler of extra - not main plot) Somehow, the ML proposed using a knife? I didn't know whether to cry or to laugh when I read it so I did both

[collapse]

Characters are really nice. I love the MC's growth. He tries to hold a conversation even if he is terrible at it. At first I was under the impression that the only reason he could find out about the criminals was because of his telepathy, but I was very wrong. He is just as smart as the ML, and is capable of coming to a logical conclusion by himself without telepathy or even ML. However, he doesn't say his deductions out loud a lot, so I misunderstood him (I'm sorry ~ (´Д`) ~). Only difference between him and ML is ML has higher EQ to understand criminal's motives, which he makes up for with his telepathic skills.

I see some misunderstandings about ML's "power" (not really a spoiler)
Spoiler

He does not have powers. He doesn't dream about crime scenes or sees in the criminal's pov through the form of a power. He understands a criminal's psychology so well, that he can easily guess the criminals method of mu*der and motives. As such, he can recreate the crime scene perfectly in his head by "fitting" himself inside the role of a mu*derer. It is not his power. I'm sort of stuck in a language loop today so I find it hard to express what I mean, but I hope you get it.

[collapse]

If there is one part of the novel that really falls behind the other parts of the novel, it's the depiction of mental health. I'm no expert, but I at least understand some basics. There are some parts that seemed realistic, but there were some parts that felt completely made up.
Spoiler

One of the most memorable made up parts was the mental health doctor (no idea what it is in English), who somehow disclosed another patients's confidential to someone else without their consent. I'm staying in a place where there are no mental health "doctors", only "experts", so I'm not exactly sure if it's the same as doctors, but yeah. Also, I'm pretty sure he implied that love (which he referred to as a magic potion) would solve many things (which at the time was implied to be to MC's mysophobia), which is irresponsible as heck.

[collapse]

Overall, I did enjoy the novel, and I'd recommend it. It was fun reading it while it lasted. (I blasted through this novel at the speed of light - took me less than 24 hours to finish it all because I had a whole day of free time). Have a nice day. <<less

Satisfying crime novel. Protagonists are geniuses with extremely high degree of self consciousness. If you like crime investigation and smart MC in BL, this novel should be suitable for you.

The cases are intriguing. The characters are memorable. The plot... well, I think there may be a few glitches on the plot, probably because I read it through MTL, but it's still tolerable. And its slightly open ending is also verrry nice.

Just be aware, there are depictions of cruelty. Those who are squeamish should not read it while eating, in the... more>> middle of the night, or when you are stressed. <<less

This novel is a good start for those who want to try reading crime novels because it's not overly complex. There are descriptions of cruelty but the overall tone of the novel is fairly light-hearted with a dash of comedy. The MC and ML are quite OP so there isn't any sense of danger.

That said, I personally found this novel average because the cases aren't intricate enough and are solved too quickly. I also found the fact that MC and ML's luck to always bump into crime cases illogical. It... more>> is also a running gag in the novel hence the reason for finding it kind of unserious.

The MC and ML are alright but the side characters are lackluster. I like MC's character development in the way his mysophobia didn't get "cured" and his personality remains cold but he learned to empathize with others and show care in his own cold-hearted way. His callous way of speaking is surprisingly endearing and his conversation with the ML is always so fun!

As for the romance, I found the couple to be more like partners than lovers. They are perfect for each other due to their personalities and past but they lack the spark so I found their relationship kind of dull.

Final thoughts: It is an ok read, not outstanding but not particularly terrible. At least it didn't feel like a waste of time. <<less

This is an interesting read. Both the MC and ML are outliers, who endured trauma in their past. There are several mu*ders, which they join together to solve using their unique take on crime. Overall, I liked this book, and I liked these two very strange people who slowly fell into their version of love.

I actually like this more than I thought I would. One thing to note is that if you are like me and don't enjoy the enemies to lovers thing then the start of the MC and Ml's relationship can come of as unpleasant but it's not actually as bad as it looks. Even later on you come to learn that the Mc's attitude towards the ML can even be called favorable to some degree for him. If he really didn't like the guy it would take all of 2 seconds... more>> for him to forget the guys existence. I also feel very sorry for the MC as you can clearly see that he's just suffering from trauma and having it compounded by his power. <<less

I want to put 4, 5 but...

It's been a while since I read this novel and yes I like it. Sweet, humorous, action and the writing is not boring.

Even if there are plothole and I find the end a little bit weak compare to the rest of the novel, I enjoyed it.

I read light novel to have fun and light read after a working day or when my brain is in another space. So every day. The novel make a good job of it.

Sorry for my Frenglish😊

My mind was left reeling after finishing this. Had to spend a moment to run through the whole plot in my head with how everything came together in the end.

Plot wise, imo it's pretty solid. Had fun deducing by myself who the criminal was while reading.

Spoiler

I liked how it revealed that all the cases are somehow connected and all the criminals were spurred on by an evil mastermind with a sad backstory (but don't all evil masterminds have sad backstory?), which led to the revelation of our leads' backstory, which is kinda heartbreaking, the things they had to go through.

Defo recommend to read from me. <<less

The cases were really interesting. I liked that their mutual pining wasn't dragged out; once the MC and the ML realised that they liked each other, they got together pretty quickly. The side characters were also likeable.

Spoiler

The overarching plot was that someone was behind the scenes, pushing the criminals to commit those crimes. He was also linked to the kidnapping case 10 years ago.

However, by that point, I got really bored. Maybe I'll come back to finish this one day and see if the reason the MC got his powers is explained. <<less
