A surprisingly charming novel despite the copious amounts of angst.

I very much enjoyed the writing style of the author, which tends to be very understated. The dark parts come almost with no warning, but it is very necessary to read between the lines.

Spoiler

From the start, you know the MC is someone who likes to make light of his own suffering, who doesn't like thinking or describing the bad stuff around him. He likes narrating things from a comedic standpoint, even though his life is shitty and sad AF.

He tells the reader only about random Mary Sue encounters and tyrannical Presidents in the prologue, but then proceeds to literally kill himself from a single word from a crazy asylum brother. Unlike other transmigrators, he didn't get hit by a bus or die from an external force. MC committed su*cide. And that act alone exposes the dark underbelly of the narration. It didn't happen randomly, it was a long time coming.

And that sets the tone for how the rest of the story will be explored. Things shouldn't be taken at face value; read with suspicion at the unreliable narrator.

[collapse]

Any readers who thought that the MC's sad backstory is something the author came up with on the spot missed a lot of crucial hints and didn't get the author's writing at all.

The MC is pretty relateable. He has unending optimism (and sometimes very stubborn/blind) while hiding a lot inside. Despite appearing like he thinks everything is a joke, he feels the most deeply out of everyone.

I think there's a good balance between angst, intentional/unintentional denial, and fluff. There were a few parts at the start of the novel that I can see being frustrating for some readers, but personally I liked the setup and subsequent character development quite a lot.

I would actually reread this novel again: like I said, the comedy, understated feelings, quick pace, contributed to a great experience.

Spoiler

One of the only issues is that near the end, a few of the event triggers started feeling more unreasonable; like the author cannot allow the characters to execute a single plan or pass by a single day smoothly.

The angst started feeling more contrived as similar plots repeat. [MC tries to help the ML but puts himself in danger -> he thinks it will be ok -> it goes badly, MC sacrifices or gets very hurt -> ML gets hurt.] Seriously, it ALWAYS goes wrong.

Anyway, still, overall a good novel.

[collapse]

Translation was pretty good. The translator on Foxholic seemed to have changed or gotten better after a few chapters. Earlier translations had more issues, but later on things started making more sense. There were a few mistranslations of double-negative language (Chinese can use a lot of double negative language that MTL will not catch, turning the intent of the sentence into the opposite of what the author said), but overall a smooth read. <<less

I had to drop it at C27.

Plot is all over the place. MC's attitude is kind of annoying. I think it's trying to be funny/comedic but certain actions (or lack of it) are frustrating.

Just not my cup of tea I guess.

3 stars. So it is a good novel, definitely cried a few tears on the really heartbreaking scenes and the MC is a little funny but I dropped it without completing it even though it was about to end for one reason

It might be a spoiler but it's important for those who want to avoid r*pe scenes/dubious consent esp twisted ones.

--> After the ML realizes its the MC (he died and came back in a different body again), instead of rejoicing and apologizing for almost killing him and violently... more>> beating him (smashing his head against a wall) at least on 2 different occassions (when he still didn't know it was him), the ML just picks him up and ties the MC to the bedpost without a word, strips him and just... starts? There's nothing affectionate at all. Apparently the MC deserves to be "punished" because he left him (su*cide) according the the ML. I can't deal with it because the MC didn't kill himself because he wanted to, he was forced to die by someone else and instead of being beheaded he requested to be allowed to cut his own throat. Not exactly "leaving your lover selfishly" now is it. The worst is that the MC also agrees silently while crying thinking he deserves to be punished through rough painful s*x even though he just wants a hug from the ML.

I'm not sticking around for this twisted mindset. My thanks to the translator for bringing us the novel. Won't deny the novel was interesting but some parts are just questionable. <<less

The Angst is real in this novel.

In between the main pair (Yan He Qing x Xiao Yu An), and my OTP (Li Wu Di x Xie Cheng Gui), the tears just won't stop running every few chapters. The sweetness and fluff between YHQ and XYA was always interrupted by the Angst. It makes it sweeter tho. The translation are excellent, thank you translator and author-san for your hard work!

Even though there are closure for the couple when Xiao Yu An committed su*cide at that time,

I still hope to see some alternate universe story on Li Wu Di and Xie Cheng Gui in the extras. (I still tears up at the thought of this couple 😭😭) <<less

Seems like people either hate or love it. Unfortunately it's the first for me. This plot is really non-sensical—nothing makes sense.

To give you an example, MC & ML had to walk to the temple and ML explained that it was because of him that they had to walk BUT when they return to the palace, it was not like they were trying to hide that went together. So... why not the carriage when you had such a hard time walking (and also the MC seem to injured himself... walking? It... more>> wasn't even clear how he got hurt).

There were a lot of situations like this. Also seems like the story piles on unnecessary drama and misunderstand just for the sake of it. It seems that the author thinks that a good plot is by piling as much misunderstanding as possible.

To me it just very irritating ting to read when you know most of it is unnecessary and easy to resolve. <<less

It was such a good novel, full of sweet moments and lots of angst/heartbreak - I really felt for the characters.

I would suggest that trigger warnings for themes such as su*cide, ptsd and self harm be included.

I'm so confused. I read this novel and think that it is wonderful. I really can't understand why it got such mixed and controversial reviews; because of them, I almost missed such a beautiful story. It is well-written and fast-paced, with a good plot and well-rounded characters. The author has a good sense of humour, so at times it was really funny. The first few chapters were so funny that I thought that I was reading a comedy, but there is nothing funny about the story itself. It is eventful,... more>> romantic, and sometimes heartbreaking, and it is definitely worth reading.

There are a few aspects of the novel that I really liked and that distinguish the novel from other stories about book transmigrators:

First, the identities of MC and ML were too unique, which made them star-crossed lovers.
Spoiler

Just imagine that MC is the emperor of the northern kingdom and ML is the crown prince of the southern kingdom. The emperor's country invaded the prince's homeland, killed his family, and showed mercy to no one; soldiers killed everyone indiscriminately, including children, women, and elderly people. Soon, the crown prince became the emperor, took revenge, and conquered the state that invaded his homeland. So MC became the former emperor of a fallen country. Even though MC and ML love and care about each other, the hate between their people runs too deep. Every time they are together, everyone thinks that one of them has ulterior motives and plots something. MC and ML have no control over the overall situation or their predicament.

[collapse]
This isn't the story where MC will be nice to ML; ML will change the original character's behaviour, and a tragic future will be avoided. Even if MC is acting differently, everyone is suspicious of him, and ML can change nothing.

Secondly, I loved that there was a linguistic barrier between MC and other characters. One thing that always bugs me while reading books about people who transmigrated in ancient times is how well they adapted in terms of language. Language always evolves; I believe Chinese has changed a lot too; some words aren't used anymore, some have changed their meaning, and there are also many new words. Additionally, China has so many dialects, so the fact that sometimes MC and other characters had miscommunication because of this was funny and at the same time realistic. MC had a lot of fun; he purposefully used new terms to confuse people.

The most unique feature of this novel, and also the most discussed one, is MC. A lot of people described him negatively—his IQ, his character—everything was questioned, so I expected that he would be one of those characters who is described as a smart person but actually has a low IQ. I also thought that he would be narcissistic, but I was wrong. MC is an intelligent and humorous individual; he thoroughly enjoys uttering gibberish and rarely takes things seriously. But if you read the whole novel carefully, then you will understand why he acts in this way. It is his coping mechanism. This is how he deals with stress and negative emotions. His past life was too hard, so because of that, he developed into this kind of person. He always goes with the flaw and takes pleasure in small, insignificant things. He doesn't dwell on negative things and quickly finds distractions. But actually, he is a caring, good, and clever person. He isn't s*upid; he knows that what he is saying is nonsensical; he just doesn't care and doesn't even try to act normal in accordance with character. He doesn't take his life and well-being seriously. He hides his pain with his smile and jokes. Even when a knife is held to his neck, he still keeps acting crazily.

If you are interested, I will write about his past life.
Spoiler

His past life was too unbearable. His mother was a mistress, his father cheated on his wife, and he doesn't care about anyone, including MC's mother and MC. MC and his brother are illegitimate children. Their lives were hard, and when MC was 6 years old, his mother committed su*cide right in front of him. Then MC father finally remembered that he has two sons, mainly because his wife couldn't give birth, so he took MC back as an heir but separated him from his brother, who has physical disabilities, and because of that, their father didn't want to bother himself and take care of him. Afterwards, there wasn't anything mentioned, but I believe MC's stepmother would not be delighted and definitely wouldn't have loved him or taken good care of a child of his husband's mistress. MC only mentioned that his father was an animal, and he took revenge. I guess he was neglected and bullied. After he grew up, he found his brother, who at times had mental health issues. He tried to help him, but in vain. His brother hated him and blamed him for abandonment. MC dedicated his whole life to his brother. He hoped that he would get better and maybe one day he would forgive him; he was his only family, but this never happened. MC himself said that in his past life he lived in hatred towards his father and in guilt towards his brother. He never knew what happiness was. He also has insomnia that was caused by his mother's su*cide, and it never gets better. At the end of his past life, he had a terminal illness. Even when he was ill, he still blamed himself and thought that he was a useless person who yet again let his brother down. And as his situation got worse, he, like his mother, committed su*cide. The circumstances and the way he did it were so distressing that it broke my heart. He is a good person; he is caring, but in his past life, he gave away everything he had but didn't receive anything back. And like that, he transmigrated in the novel. He just committed su*cide because there was nothing worth leaving for him, and now he acts really recklessly; he goes with the flew because he doesn't know what to do, spouts nonsense, and doesn't take anything seriously. He thinks that his life has no value and that the country he rules will still fall. So I don't know what people expected from him. It is already a miracle that he is sane; his behaviour is peculiar but understandable. Just because he is reckless doesn't mean that he is s*upid.

[collapse]

Also, I liked his behaviour after he transmigrated.
Spoiler

He was the first character who transmigrated as a villainous cannon fodder and wanted to kill the protagonist and not hold his thigh to save himself. In addition, he tried to follow the plot of the original novel. He didn't go directly to ML to help him out, but let him go through the script. It was only later in the story that he decided to go against the plot and change it, yet again, not in ML's favour. Everything he did for ML, he did because of his own feelings, not for the script.

[collapse]

One thing I'm not sure about is this tyrannical CEO nonsense.
Spoiler

MC keeps repeating that he was raised as a tyrannical CEO and that he read a lot of books and learned a lot of things to become one. I never get what he means, but I think it is the identity he came up with in order to deal with his life. He needed some distraction to feel less guilt. He read a lot of web novels to escape reality, so I think it was just for fun. His stories look more like stories a little child would imagine in order to deal with abuse.

[collapse]

A lot of people also wrote that MC has a hero complex. I don't think it is true. Most of the time, he was forced into the corner and had no other choice and also because of all this guilt he feels because of his past and current lives. Also, he is a good person and will help if he can. A lot of people are dependent on him, and he feels that he let them down. I personally think that what he did was more than enough. Most situations and troubles were unavoidable, and it is already a miracle that he made it alive. I don't blame either MC or ML for all those situations. The development of the story is logical, and there aren't s*upid, unnecessary scenes that have no purpose and are there to make the story more dramatic and make no sense. It is a turbulent and chaotic time, and both of them are doing their best. No one can control everything. And because of his identity, MC is like a magnet for trouble. It isn't his fault. He is doing his best.

Unfortunately, ML too needs defense. He was labelled as useless for letting MC suffer. I don't think ML should take the blame. He did everything in his power to protect him, but he is just a person. He isn't all-powerful; he needs to deal with court, with war and rebellions, and, on top of that, protect MC. He does his best. Did MC get hurt? Yes, he did. Can we blame ML for that? No, we can't. Most of the time, MC gets hurt because he acted bravely and wanted to protect someone.
Spoiler

Besides, everyone hates MC, so everyone is waiting for their chance to hurt him. Every time MC gets hurt, ML himself is in a dangerous predicament and on the brink of death, so he can't protect him. On one occasion, he got hurt because, despite his identity, he tried to shield MC. So he isn't bad and will protect MC at all costs. But the only way to protect him would be by sending him away, and I doubt that MC himself would agree.

[collapse]
Neither MC nor ML are overpowered characters; their abilities are normal.

There was a misunderstanding too. I hate misunderstandings, but only unreasonable ones; this one was completely justified.
Spoiler

ML colluded with the Emperor's enemies, and as a result, MC almost got killed. Two points were really important here. Firstly, someone died while protecting MC, and he felt guilty because he played with the lives of others. He finally understood that he couldn't save both ML, the state, and the people he was governing. Secondly, ML truly collided with rebels; he might not have known that MC would be ambushed, but he played his part. MC also felt guilty because he knew this would happen but didn't stop it because he was following the plot and didn't care. It was this moment when MC thought that he should be serious and protect people. He thought that ML hate was so big that he could not change anything, and ML might hate him too. Which is logical. If someone took part in your assassination, that could not be out of love, could it? At the same time, ML felt guilty because of his betrayal. MC was kind to him, and he repaid him with this and thought that MC hated him. Which is also logical. He wanted to explain and confess his feelings, but they didn't communicate well. ML didn't know how to explain himself. Honestly, at this point in the story, even if ML had confessed, it would change nothing. MC wanted to protect people, and ML wanted his revenge. They stand on opposite sides, and nothing can be changed. What could MC do? Run away with him? He is emperor, and he can't abandon people. There are a lot of people who MC genuinely likes and cares about. Or could ML forget about his responsibility as a future emperor? I don't think so. They do have feelings for each other, but it isn't enough to change the course of history. Hence, a tragic and heartbreaking misunderstanding occurred.

[collapse]

It was a bit funny how hard MC tried to match ML with his future love interest. There, he did really s*upid things because he wanted to salvage the situation and fill up MC Harem, which, compared to the original novel, looked pitiful. Sometimes it was too excessive, but I kind of get him. If I had transmigrated to my favourite Danmei, I would hide in the bush too to see how MC and ML interacted and try to help them communicate more. How am I supposed to know that MC would change his s*xual orientation? Truth be told, if the protagonist from my favourite novel had fallen in love with me rather than with ML, I would have killed myself. Seriously, if Xie Lian had fallen in love with me instead of Hua Cheng, I would search for the nearest cliff to jump. Apart from that, I think the author did it in order to lighten the story; otherwise, it would be too tragic.

What I liked the most is that the characters are well-rounded. Every single one has their own story, even villains. Because of their life experiences and war, it is hard to say who is right or who is wrong. Everything they went through was terrible. I loved every single one of them. Even if you don't like MC, you will definitely fall in love with the side characters.

The novel is extremely well written. It crowles under your skin and makes you emotional. There are many side characters whose stories will make you cry. Those stories are sad, but beautiful. I don't think MC should feel guilty. Yes, he changed the plot, and a lot of people who were originally supposed to live died, but he gave them a chance to become better and die with honour and without regrets. Living with regrets is sometimes worse than death.

What I think is that the author specifically wrote about MC as a weird, reckless person who would speak about socialistic values, the Constitution, and Marx in ancient times. His smile will be innocent and naive, and despite his problems and feelings, he will try to make others happy. This story needed exactly this type of protagonist because the story itself is too sad, and we needed someone who would lighten the mood and make us smile, and MC does that. He is cute and lovely. Please believe me and go read the book. There are a lot of chapters, so it seems that it is too long, but actually, the chapters are too short, and it isn't that long. It deserves a high rating, and it deserves to be read.

P.S. I'm in love with the translator. All those notes and comments made me feel like I was reading a novel with my friend; it was really nice. The translator put so much effort into translating this story. Thank you for sharing this story with us. <<less

Well, I have lot to say about this but then it will be no longer a review. I'll just make it short as possible.

This was beautiful story, with lots of drama, heartbreaking scene and full of emotion package rollercoaster. A wild ride but definitely happy and satisfactory one at the end. (PS: The Tragedy tag is no joke)

ML in here is so fine AF, instead I had bit problem with MC. I am actually stunned and surprised with how much of a Green flag this ML is. Usually ML... more>> of this kinda genre and theme always end up turning.... you know, bind or confine MC and restrict them especially after MC tries to leave or reject ML......... but this guy..... He's so Green. I love Him ❤️

He is more Greener than most of the sweet and fluff bl novels MLs I have read so far.

Love the side Characters and side couples. I especially loved how the author ended this story, taking time, giving us sweet and fluff with Extra about AU (after wrenching our heart). Happy ending for everyone and every couple (even the ship that are not yet couple officially....... LWD X XCG). Definitely a satisfactory ending.

Thanks to the translator for translating this novel ❤️ <<less

This novel is especially interesting if you read it from the perspective that the MC suffers from disassociation. He doesn't take the world seriously, because he can't handle reality after.. Well, there is a big reveal in chapter 46 that is completely worth the build up. Everything in the first five chapters is viewed through this lens that exaggerates the unrealistic aspects of his life with him self inserting as a failed tyrant ceo. He works hard and does fine on the surface at home and in front of his... more>> mentally and physically ill brother, but is already mentally collapsing when the story starts. He is purposefully avoiding building a real connection to the new world as well as a way to protect himself. He acts as himself regardless of potential consequences because to him really regarding himself as the emperor responsible for the life and death of the country is not something he is ready for at all. He was a high flying ceo but he is actually just emotionally weak, to a point where he purposefully avoids certain facts. The only part of his sickness he ever admits to is in relation to his insomnia, which is never cured.

This is why he is so wishy washy with his handling of the male lead and always referring to him as a book character. He realizes rather early that the man is flesh and blood but the positive feelings between them are actually a great burden to him, so he insists on following the plot occasionally even once it stops making sense to do so. The MC lives in this state of underlying terror, and honestly for good reason. The humor, at least until the weaksauce ending where even the brother in the original world gets a happy end, is a front to cope with the various traumas. This is particularly obvious when the MC comes out from a torture scene with his optimism seemingly unaffected or even reinforced, only for another big reversal that shows just how deep his disassociation runs. This story is very intense and the tragedy genre is well deserved.

I am convinced that the 'family' the MC refers to in the first few chapters, although it might refer to his scum father and his relatives, also includes some psychologists who interface with the MC using his delusions about getting trained as a arrogant ceo straight from the television despite being a rather normal ceo in reality. Pushing women on him then becomes less of a braindead fantasy and more of a way to encourage him to build connections to the world around him and accept that there are good things in reality as well that he might miss if he continues to face the world at a distance. The MC is very sober about his problems in a way, but his logical thinking cannot trump his innate flaws of escaping from a situation. Everything in the first few chapters is meticulously preplanned. He's having a deep mental break but still manages to complete things step by step. The big wtf moment is one he does very calmly without hesitation. The "why" only becomes obvious later in the story once he is willing to admit his traumas and his inability to care about his own well being. The MC eventually reflects that many of his actions were reckless and resolves to treat his life more seriously, at least for the sake of his lover.

He is self aware, but still cannot fully control his actions or responses. This to me is one of the most terrifying ways for a mental illness to manifest.

I also doubt the AU dream extra
Spoiler

was anything more than a dream when they 'return'. The ML does not explicitly state he shared that dream, he just comforts the MC on the possibility of their dead friends going to a better (extremely Mary Su) place.

Before you read this: I don’t really have super high standards for webnovels/lightnovels or any novel really so you may or may not agree with my review.

After that we really start seeing the MC grow up and mature more but he still has that same loveable and funny personality.

The ML and MC’s relationship develops at a pace that’s not too fast or too slow and that made reading the story enjoyable.

What really made the story stick with was the fact that the MC and ML had to balance their relationship and their country and that led to many different hardships and setbacks.

I would not recommend reading if you don’t like character death and any general angst.

I would recommend reading if:

*Warning - rant up ahead !!!

I’ve actually come this far in this novel is really awesome of me *pats my own back !!!!!

To be honest I wanted to drop this as soon as around chapter 30ish. But I had read some reviews saying that please don’t judge before reading at least more than half. So after reading satisfactorily more than half here I am !!!!!

So after reading this far I will admit that some people will like this novel but it’s just not my cup of tea. Some characters although... more>> in very tragic situations don’t sit right with me. So ya personally for me this novel was kinda torture !!!

Let me start with my view - *spoiler ahead !!!!! I can feel the author trying to desperately make the characters as realistic as possible. I can understand the author’s attempt to convey that real life situations and that everything is not always sweet. But for some reason this book fails to do that -

1. I feel bad for the side cp’s - they didn’t deserve that.

2. How does everything miraculously work out for the main couple ???? I know they have their own hardship but how come they switch between “cute n foolish” and “calm n mature” like a light bulb ????? Are y’all even human ????

3. People trying to dictate others - from the first few chapters till the chapter I’ve read - somebody is trying to control some other person either for their own good or because they are the only relative left or many more reasons

4. The MC seems pretty foolish - in more than half part he keeps thinking the ML as the book protagonist and keeps pushing girls to him - bruh give him a break - then when the ML confesses he is still foolish for some time before he realises during war that he loves him ?????? Bruh you can worry whole lot about the book plot but you don’t know your own feelings untill now ?????

5. The MC at the end of first quarter is affected by death of a loyal maid and then says to himself that why he thought nothing is related to him and why he didn’t accept these people from the start ——- despite this realisation that he should accept these people whom he calls book characters he still thinks the ML as the book protagonist———- I mean have you lost some part bruh ???? The MC very much behaves opposite to his character 😶

6. The f*cking lack of communication- I know that in ancient times people were very reserved - I also understand that in some parts miscommunication is funny - but here miscommunication is the cause of all the disaster that is called the plot of this novel - the amount of miscommunication made me want to beat up my neighbours howling dog !!!!!!

There Are still many points that I can complain about - but I want to emphasise that some people might like this kind of angst - but I clearly didn’t like it ! <<less

First off I just want to say, It is a happy ending! I absolutely do not like tragedies so I wouldn't usually read a novel like this but since I started off with the manghua and loved it I couldn't wait for the update and hopped onto the novel. Needless to say I absolutely loved it! Yes there are gut wrenching parts in it but thanks to the MCs character those parts dont last as long and we move to happier parts soon. So as someone who is allergic to... more>> tragic stories I can 100% tell you that this is a really cute novel (especially the extras), even with the parts with some angst it's definitely a Happy ending and worth reading. I completed this novel months ago, but I forgot to write the review. But it's one of my fav novels.

This story is different from other transmigration stories, here MC don't need to do anything, he was just offered an extra life to live again. MC's story is sad whether it's his past life or the present one, he is really pity. But he is an optimistic character, who looks forward and he have a good heart. ML is protagonist of the book, he is powerful.... more>> He is so doting towards MC. Only one thing that'll make frustrated is MC will treat everything as novel not as real life at the beginning, only when he faces a death situation did he realize that everyone are humans here with emotions and life.

But their love story will make you cry at some point, cause they are the kings of opposite kingdoms and so they'll be separated by life and death once. ML also go through pain which is no less to MC. But I really love MC so much here, he really needs a big hug. And ML already knows MC is from another world and their interactions are all so cute. Their plot is realistic and they take time to fall in love.

Their chemistry is OFF THE CHART. There is a flute scene between ML and MC, AHHH, I'm a flute player, now I can't look at my flute with direct thoughts again. SIGH.

MC's psychological shadow left me crying ugly. From the start, he knows there is a way to die

I'm really grateful for author for giving these two a HE, because from the views of the world, these type of characters are bound to suffer for the sake of the world and responsibility, but with so many twist and turns, they once again returned to each other's side. If it was a bittersweet or Bad ending, I would have cried so much. It's HE, thank god it have bit of fantasy (transmigration) . Or else how would two kings of opposite kingdoms have a HE? There comes the transmigration for rescue. JUST GIVE IT A TRY!! YOU WON'T REGRET!! FOR THEIR CHEMISTRY!! <<less

I really enjoyed the novel, I actually started from the 漫画 (manhua) and really enjoyed the storyline, craved for more, so I went to read it. I fully read the story in raws, and it's really enjoyable since I enjoy such a plot of transmigration and a little plotting with some angst here and there. There are tears and happy moments.

Of course, there are some plot or settings that some readers won't enjoy, for example, the MC's behaviour, character, and reaction added some form of comedic elements but if readers... more>> were to read and view the plot seriously, it's inconsistent, like how some reviews pointed out that even though he's a modern-day person who knows he's in an ancient setting but he doesn't even attempt to act like one. But I think that's perfectly fine, because all of us are different individuals who can choose to react in our own way in a different situation. If put into the same situation as the MC (transmigration into an ancient world) some might behave as the MC does, some people might go crazy and can't get used to it and drive them to insanity, or some may try their best to behave like an ancient person so any oddity is not discovered. If the MC doesn't react to the way your logic says, you don't like it, then don't read it. But this does not mean that it's a bad novel.

For another ancient novel, I have actually reviewed that "What I dislike about the novel is that there are modern terms used that ancient people won't use. That adds to the comical element which some might appreciate.", but that's because that's a really 100% historical ancient novel with no transmigration and all, so I found it quite weird to have modern-day terms spoken by the characters, which made it a little harder to get me invested into the story. But in this novel, I think it's fine and it can happen.

I feel like this is a novel that made me want to turn page after page and I can't seem to put it down. This is the kind of ancient/historical novel I would enjoy. Would I read it again? Probably. I mean... I enjoy HE story with a little (or a lot) hardships. <<less

AMAZING. Simply amazing. This is such a masterpiece, ah it's so cute. Ignore the bad reviews, if you don't like this kind of thing, you should find something else. I generally love this kind of this, it's so wholesome.

It's frustrating to read.

It's clear that both leads speak the same language but you just feel like the same words correspond to different things in their made-up dictionary.

MC is either a mental case or sinfully s*upid lol. From Cannon Fodder A to Nameless Passerby B, every f*cking one is more aware of what's actually going on than him. ML doesn't show even the slightest interest to potential harem members? Gotta encourage 'em. Whot he gave me a token that he gave to his lover in the original? Must be a... more>> misunderstanding. Like seriously bro...

I also don't like MC's character. So be it if it was a mindless fluff with White Lotus x Domineering CEO pairing, or sum comedic relief, but it's clearly not? Wars and conflicts be popping up like popcorn and our MC is this childish?

f*ck he also stammers and blushes like a holier-than-thou maiden and makes me wanna scream "MAN UP DUDE YOU ARE THE EMPEROR/CEO DONTCHA HAVE ANY BACKBONE??"

I don't have much to say about ML. He was more realistic than MC for sure, but... That's it. Yet to see sth about him that I already haven't or would make me distinguish him among a herd of similar MLs.

Side characters were the usual templates. A good girl servant, gay side couple 1 & 2, evil without a reason villains... Well yes.

Anyways, would I recommend it? I meeeean, it wasn't half bad when the plot was light, but all drama with this disastrous character line up... Author is asking for a beating. <<less
