A LOT of people have lists I've used to find books I've enjoyed. This is my return favor; I hope others can use this to find novels they will really enjoy as well!

Important notes - List is in reading order. not preference or any ranking system. My reviews are listed here as well just so you can see my thoughts. I tend to rate things more highly if I think the general rating is lower than it should be. I also tend to LOVE well written angsty stories, and character growth is DEFINITELY a plus. Spoilers are NOT HIDDEN because I couldn't figure out how to get them to work right.

I had my suspicions when we find out that Arsion left to go to the Holy Knights when Ariel was sick, but the only reason he left her is because he was fulfilling a pledge to the goddess. My original thought was that because she was so sick Arsion dedicated himself to the goddess to save her life, but actually he was fulfilling his pledge to the goddess that if She sent him his mate (that he apparently knew was out there, and I sincerely hope that particular plot point is going to be explored in book 2) he would kill as many monsters as would satisfy Her. When Ariel becomes sick at 17, Arsion realizes he has not kept his promise to the goddess, and literally runs to the battlefield for 3 years. The SECOND he has killed the appropriate number of monsters, Arsion runs right back to the palace and demands that they move forward with wedding approvals so he can get married RIGHT NOW and is ANGRY he has to wait for royal approval to hold his wedding.

Meanwhile, Ariel has had to put up with all kinds of ridiculous rumors for the last 3 years spread by jealous b*tches (I hate hate HATE that word but it's really accurate for the situation. I would really like to cut one of these hateful people) because Arsion is GORGEOUS and the only son of a duke, while Ariel is the okay looking second daughter of a fallen noble who is basically a commoner and an accountant. Deeply in love, hurt at being left without a word of explanation for 3 years, and feeling like she is going to lose her best friend that she adores to the Holy Knights, Ariel comes up with the c*ckamamie idea that she's going to seduce and corrupt Arsion so he can't join the Holy Knights and leave her behind. This goes about as well as one would expect - Arsion plays dumb, she gets to take the lead and follows the (surprisingly well-thought out, detailed, intelligently-written and well-informed) book she found, Arsion is MORE than happy to be seduced, Ariel realizes that she is taking away his self-determination and makes a break for it, Arsion tracks her down and demands she finish "teaching" him, all misunderstandings are resolved, we get a wedding.[/spoiler]I do need to say something about the losing v**ginity scene - it's the only non-con or dub-con scene in the whole book, which is disappointing but also feels very REAL. This book is FANTASTIC for the enthusiastic consent though every other scene, and once the misunderstanding between the two is resolved it's all happy times all the time.I'm also REALLY looking forward to what I'm hoping will be revealed in the second book, especially what the Crown Princess and the Commander of the Holy Knights were talking about. I love a good mystery about the past! <<less

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ HOLY COW THIS WAS AMAZING - it deserves the impressively high rating, but it does feel a lot more like a modern literary fiction... more>> than something written for just entertainment; this is the kind of novel that would be analyzed and discussed in a book club or literature class. It's a slice of life story that is by turns funny, sweet, poignant, sad, and honestly has a lot to say about life and growing up and falling in love with the person you're with. The entire story was beautifully written and feels very REAL - ML does not get over his ex immediately and FL doesn't act like someone who's 22 but her real mental age before her rebirth, the friends get together and do dumb things, the FL can remember everything but uses some of her knowledge to get ahead and what she DOES remember is always something emotionally significant to her, so there's a good reason she remembers it. None of the characters are perfect, and it's not hard to understand their motivations for their actions - but there's also a tremendous amount of character growth, and progression in how they act and think, and it's wonderfully carried out. Especially the radio show scenes - they read like small vignettes that add to the overwhelming feel of the novel - it's just so well done. The writing and translation are top notch, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book. There are beautiful moments when Yu Dong and Xia Feng start to really UNDERSTAND each other and moments where they are teasing and having fun together - and while this is a very low-drama between the MCs series, there is some drama with exes and the things going on in their lives and the lives of their friends. Yu Dong, Ren Xinxin, and Xiang Xiaoyue are ABSOLUTE FRIENDSHIP GOALS. They are the epitome of women supporting other women, and the three together are nothing to mess with. I adore how the friendships and casual interactions are shown - you can tell how close Xia Feng and Shao Yifang are and how the girls watch each other's backs and genuinely support each other. The parents are all SO funny and I truly love all the depictions of long-term relationships and friendships. It's true to life and fulfilling. [spoiler]I have to admit, I had real hopes for Ren Xinxin and Shao Yifang becoming an item, but alas - she maybe ends up with an alien. [/spoiler] <<less
