“The woman standing before me is none other than Violet. She was the fiancée of the crown prince, His Highness Feld, who attempted to mu*der Baroness Mia Abazn and the crown prince of the neighboring kingdom using poisons forbidden by the Kingdom of Rolaud. This is considered the greatest betrayal towards the royal family. Therefore, the execution of the great sinner, Violet, shall be carried out.”

—Thus, I was decapitated.

Or so I thought.

However, when I realized it, I went back to the time when I was still a candidate for the position of fiancée for His Highness…

TLDR: Between 3 and 4 stars, rounding to 4 stars

This one could have been called Villainess Impossible. The story is very reminiscent of "The Villainess Lives Twice" but much faster paced. There's a fun look at the undercurrents in the fantasy kingdom and various factions vying for power, and a playful examination of just what would happen with the idiot prince and the heroine's fishery. 👍👍 Toss in good writing, a solid translation and a readable MTL, it adds up to nice way to kill an hour or two

This is a decent reincarnation (return to the past) Japanese novel. The story moves quickly and the MC makes some logical key decisions to prevent her demise. However, I'm rating this as a 3 star story, since the complete s*upidity of the Crown Prince, the MC's brother, and the King & Queen baffle me. I understand their behavior is an essential part of the plot, but I think more complex motivations would've pushed the story from a decent story to a great one.

Here, it's unclear whether we as the audience... more>> are supposed to believe that baroness was able to seduce so many people by her own merits or due to a protagonist halo. If it was because of some "otherworldly" influence, then that plot point should've been explored in more detail like in other novels. The actions of many of the enemy characters are extreme. See the following spoilers for more details.

Spoiler

Later, towards the end of the novel, it seems the baroness has isekai'ed into an otome game where the MC is a villainess. It appears she was pursuing a harem ending and when the MC didn't act out her villainess' role per the game, the baroness tried as much as possible to recreate its events. Still, there isn't a lot of time given to these ideas and/or the background of the baroness.

Similarly, I don't understand the actions of the MC's brother--in both the original and current timeline. How could he allow the person he loved to marry the Crown Prince? Also, why did he mu*der his parents and/or not question their deaths? Unless the baroness' influence brainwashes him, his cruelty seems excessive. As mentioned before, a more complex motivation would've benefited the story. Maybe he was always power hungry and was looking for a way to remove his parents or some such more nuanced position instead of blind love could've fleshed out the story. I have the same complaints for the Knight character and Minerva. What was the Crown Prince's faction's goals besides bankrupting the nation?

Moreover, the explanation of the time travel, i.e., the magic wand and the foreign prince's actions seem rushed. Also, why would Lucia even care about the MC after she died in the original timeline? How would she know where she was buried?

[collapse]

Nonetheless, it's a decent and quick read. If you want to read about someone returning from the past, using their social graces, and creating alibis/witnesses to establish their innocence, then I'd recommend this novel as good way to pass your time. <<less

I'll give it a 5 for the genre. Short, straight to the point revenge. No filler, no pointless drama, no poorly written romance,
Spoiler

although there is a rushed romance towards the end, but who cares?

just a textbook villainess revenge story condensed into less than 40 chapters. If you like these types of stories then you'll like this.

The plot was actually quite interesting. It's different from most of other stories with otome game setting. MC wasn't a transmigrator, instead she simply went back to the past.

Spoiler

The reason why she turned back time was also clearly explained by ML (Aldam, the neighbor country crown prince). In his kingdom, there's relic that had an ability to go back to the past. The royal family of ML's kingdom could use that power but he still needed something that had a strong affinity to the past. He chose to use MC's remain (kind of disturbing if I may say) to ignite the power. As a result, MC went back to the past with her memories intact, probably because of her strong resentment towards the past.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Btw, there was indeed a transmigrator in this novel. It's Mia, the supposed heroine from the original otome game.

[collapse]

The story mainly focused on MC's revenge to people who involved in her execution. Unfortunately, the way MC concluded all her schemes was a bit disappointing. It was so rushed and there were some things that didn't make sense. And the romance was probably almost nonexistent.

Spoiler

MC and ML only interacted with each other for a handful of times and all of them didn't last long. So for ML to suddenly propose to MC after that (and MC readily agreed), it's kind of sudden and rushed. Moreover, ML didn't have a good impression for the past MC (yes, they also met in the past) because she was histerical and far from the perfect noble lady image.

ML also didn't try hard enough to save the past MC from execution. He only adviced the king to re-investigate the case but that was it. As a related party, he should have a power to save MC (the king ought to give him a face, right?) but in the end, he didn't do it and rather chose to turn back time.

[collapse]

Also, the villains were all practically brainless. Sagius, Brown, and Feld were infatuated with Mia to the point of being blind. Sagius and Brown didn't even hesitate to kill their own sister (MC) and fiancee respectively to make Mia a queen. Feld was actually deceived by Sagius and Brown but his s*upidity also contributed to MC's demise.

I'm glad that they didn't have a happy ending either in the past life. It was mentioned in the side stories. For the record, I like the side stories more than the main story. <<less

It's good quick read. Just that it falls on the same problem as why people don't like those mary sue stories: brain dead antagonists.

The only redemption here is that at least they acknowledge it and play with that theme so making it a bit bearable. Otherwise, the MC is very smart and calculating. First time seeing one properly exploring her option and not immediately going "welp time to become a nun" or "act mentally ill" or "I'll take over the next heir apparent to the household" and the likewise.

Also love... more>> MC's explanation of her suddenly "going back in time" by simply acknowledging it as a dream until things is happening exactly as how she remembers. I also like the tiny details of her having ptsd with the crown prince and her acknowledging the difference of these people to what she saw and acting as such.

The romance is sweet but this is more on revenge quickie, the romance comes after like the tie to it all. <<less

TL;DR : Very bad, avoid like fire. The plot is ridiculous, see the spoiler below.

Translation is pretty damn bad. Worse, the story is atrocious. There is no world building, any descriptions, actual characters or real comprehensible logical plot.

I don't even really know what Violet looks like. I think she has purple hair. All we know about the heroine is that she has pink hair. Most other charcters don't even get that much of a description. Not to mention the kingdom (has no name) or any of the physical locations.... more>> Nothing.

The worst part by far, is that no one has actual character. There are maybe a few paragaphs dedicated to giving Violet some personality, but they are bad. There is basically nothing for the others. This story is all the cliches of the genre without anything extra. Things happen without any build up, pacing... anything. There is no heart here at all.

Spoilers from here of some of the s*upidity :

Spoiler

So the idea is that originally everyone took part in a plot against the villainess. This includes, the crown prince and fiance, his new lover (heroine of original game), the brother and the extra guy. Up to here, this is the usual set of suspects. In this story however, the king and queen, and the parents of the villainess and all the maids and staff in her house were also in on it. Literally, no one supported her. So why was there even a need for a plot ? They could have just killed her and no one would have cared, no one. No one !

Fine, so they make some plot so she is publically humiliated and executed for fun. What plot do they pick ? The most ridiculous self destructive one possible.

They actually poisoned the visting prince of the neighbouring stronger kingdom (probably stronger, hard to tell as so little is known of the world), unsurprisingly leading to a war with that kingdom in which they lost... Presumably, even in the original story all of the above had a horrible fate. This is the actual original plot. This is so dumb, I'm amazed.

Other annoying stuff in the novel. There are lots of stuff like:

Somehow the heroine has spent so much moeny in less than a year, as to have expanded a three year budget for the royal family and all the money of Duchy without anyone noticing. I just... What?

All the charcters following the heroine against the villainess are just silly and oblivious. Their behaviour makes no sense and is unrealistic. To the point one has to assume they are under a spell, but this means they aren't at fault... What do you want brainwashed people to do ? So this whole plot is weird because except for one or two people that seem intrinsicly malicious all the rest are also victims, yet they get the same horrible end, which includes torture.

I had wanted to wait until completing the story before reviewing but I need to vent. This actually deserves a 3 star but I'm giving it 4 star just cause I like the face-slapping trope.

This starts out pretty good. MC is vengeful, cruel and smart. There were some plotholes but honestly I don't care as long as it's not too big. It's just a shot story. But my main problem is the villains. The villains are too s*upid, psychologically problematic even. I think author tried to show how smart MC... more>> is but they shouldn't have degraded the villains to such a sorry state. This just makes the MC look super s*upid too since she did idiotically fall for their schemes in last life. Don't tell me she was blinded cause of love or jealousy cause no love can filter out those villain's dumbf*ck actions. The only f*cking reason why their schemes succeeded was cause of their power. Now this leaves the question of why MC suddenly became so smarter and clearheaded after her rebirth. I hope they'll give some actual reasons for this before the ending rather than just leaving the villains as naturally that s*upid. Otherwise I'll really rate this 3! <<less

A well-executed story of a reincarnation (return to the past) story. It is a very quick read because it only has 38 chapters, but it is worthy.

EXCELLENT short revenge read. This feels very similar to Villainess Turns The Hourglass but with an otome game twist. I REALLY loved that the MC worked hard to counteract what she knew would happen, and that her plans didn't always work. The ending was viscerally satisfying though - the consequences are a LOT more realistic than most.
