“It’d be best if he doesn’t like me. Because I want him to love me.”

Nan Can is just alright to me. Compared to Qiang Jin Jiu, Idk why I feel quite dissapointed with this. But the plot was nice and interesting as it was leads to one another. As much as I wanna love the MC and ML, they also didn’t leave much huge impact to me. But kudos to the translators for their good job and still I don’t feel regret knowing Cang Ji and Jing Lin :)

Loved this novel! I found the plot to be fun, this novel has it all, the hot, the heartbreaking, the funny, the adventure, the mystery, the romance! The pacing was good although it should've been longer imo. I could've easily read another 100-200 chapters of this novel. There were really only two arcs, so I think it could've been drawn out more lol. The characters were fun, they reminded me a little bit of Mo Ran (like a combo of the lovingness of 2.0 and the shamelessness of.5 somehow) and... more>> Chu Wanning, but Jin Ling was much sillier than Wanning. I found this couple so refreshing, because unlike many others who are very shy, very concerned about propriety and afraid to touch, etc, this couple was so intimate with each other almost the entire time, lots of platonic intimacy, cuddling, hugging etc. Long before they got together officially. They have really good chemistry. Overall I had good feelings the whole time reading this. The translation was very good also.

In terms of the literary quality, the end was a bit rushed, everything came together probably way too nicely, and not all the loose ends were tied up, but this is danmei not classic literature so it didn't bother me personally lol. As you'll see, this is tagged with r*pe:

Spoiler

What happened was the shou was drugged with an aphrodisiac and would've died otherwise, so the gong took care of it for him and returned him home, the shou could not remember anything about it. So there wasn't consent, but it did save his life, sooo.

[collapse]

Which personally did not bother me at all given the context, but the gong can be pushy sometimes, so if you're someone who can't stand that might give this one a miss. There is some papapa in this but it's not really explicit, most of it gets cut out except for like one explicit scene.

All in all it was a very satisfying and refreshing read! <<less

Brilliant!! Superb!!! Awesome!!! Truly loved it.... it's one of the best novels I have ever read.... the ML and MC had gone through so much but they still ended up with each other... the trials and tribulations they went through and the experience of various other people mentioned takes us through the dark passage of the minds of humans. Truly an interesting read... thanking the author and the translator for bringing us this piece of gem....💎🙏 truly an un-putdownable read....

My god... what a novel.

First of all, this is beautifully written. I came here from a load of fluffy and light novels and the contrast between those and This is just.. mindblowing. The quality of translation is also excellent. From the battle scenes to the romance ones, the author never fails to disappoint with the sheer beauty of their writing.

The plot is so so interesting. If you're like me and tend to not read tags, you will be in for a rollercoaster. We get to experience not only the story... more>> of the main couple, but of other characters around them who feel so fleshed out and genuine. There is also some angst!! Be warned, because I was certainly caught off guard myself!!!

TBH, this reminded me a lot of TGCF lol. If you are a fan of that novel, you will love this one.

Let me also say that, if you feel like dropping the novel at any point... DON'T! The first half seemed to drag on just a tad, but everything afterwards was 1000% worth waiting for. Not to say that it was boring at all though. In fact, the first few scenes hold such a beautiful tranquility that it's probably my favourite section of the book.

Overall, this is an absolutely beautiful piece of work and I really cannot recommend it enough. I implore you to give it a shot !!<3

(P.S: let me snipe at some of the other reviews who say that Cang Ji is too brash and Jing Lin is too unemotional when a) Cang Ji has just been introduced to the human world and b)
Spoiler

Jing Lin was literally taught to sever his emotions to become a weapon rather than a human!!

[collapse]
Rather than a case of bad character writing I feel this is what fits their characters the best and only serves to compliment their growth more.) <<less

One of the best danmei novels I read. I kept delaying reading it because I was scared it was going to be too heavy or have too much angst or be too bitter, but the only regret is that I didn't read sooner.

There are heavy and sensible themes mostly in the beginner, but I didn't cry much just a little bit. Those are things that the protagonists are watching and hearing about but not experiencing themselves so it helped, there's no way I could read that without becoming a waterfall... more>> if was written in first person.

If you don't get triggered by the tags in the description you're going in for a journey that spirals out the entanglement the protagonists carry leading them to the conclusion right where everything started.

Many things changed, they themselves changed, the only thing that didn't changed is the fact that they belonged to one another.

It's a HE and it's not bitter. <<less

There are quite the similarities to the plot to TGCF. The big mystery and all the way to the big reveal. It is also significantly shorter so the novel is a lot more fast paced.

There is certainly a lot of darker themes so please watch out for the tags if there are certain triggers you want to avoid.

I definitely felt the pain and anguish JL had to go through, I do wish we could deal with his trauma a little more but with the length of the novel probably not... more>> possible.

Overall, I enjoyed the novel. It's not perfect but still a good read. <<less

Five stars for the emotional turmoil Jing Lin's suffering had caused me, then the sweet as f*ck happy ending he gets with his Cang Ji gege.

Something that I didn't like, but adventure-loving readers might like: There are flashbacks from side characters' stories, and it makes up more than half of the first (and maybe second?) volume. If you like yourself some sort of story and mystery, you might enjoy it, but I just wanted to see some angst, comfort, romance and happy endings so the early bits got me impatient.... more>> Even with that, this is my most favorite read of all time, with Erha and Free Ren Yigu right behind it. <<less

Its an absolute gem and its 5/5 for me. I binged read this and finished it in just days and Cangji and Jing lin, I don't have words to define what I feel for these beautiful characters. The translation quality was amazing as well as the plot and I would also like to thank the translator for giving us an opportunity to read this amazing novel.

Rating: 5/5- I loved this! Thrilling, dark and wonderful! CP of the year 2021, thus far, goes to Emperor Cang and Jing Lin! I don't care what anyone else says! The CP in this story is one of the many reasons to read this novel. They are officially in my favorite CP list! I wish there were more extras with them but their chemistry and interactions throughout the book was so lovely and heartwarming but also emotionally devastating and heartbreaking! Plus that little stone figure is adorable! I always thought... more>> that HOB would top my list of Xuanhuan novels but I must say that Nan Chan can compete at the same level and may in some aspects give HOB a run for its money. The main characters are wonderful and colourful in their own right. They live up to the flawed and in likeable as well as the wondrous and likeable. All the characters in the book are not boringly oppressive and have many weaknesses as much as strengths. It's the various flaws, fears and weaknesses that really sets the tone for the book and pushes the stories development. Reading this was a similar emotional experience to reading ErHa, for me (although not as tragically intense). It is a heartbreaking novel but it also has a wonderfully redeeming end. I loved that the characters were not perfect and that the story was so intriguing, forcing you to want to turn the page but also making you feel as if you didn't want the end to come. My only qualm was a single dubcon scene between the main CP, although it does contribute a lot to the story I couldn't help but wonder if it could have been avoided or handled differently. It's not really a mood killer per say but Cang Ji is actually such a puppy and in a way the dubcon felt a little out of character for him. He's intrusive and a little pushy but his character was never really the dubcon type. Anyway- that's just my personal take on that and I didn't hate it because, like I said- it was crucial to the story and had its reasonings in that context and there was guilt felt. One of the biggest highlights for me was the plot. This plot was so excellent that I will remember it for a long time! It really keeps you on edge and the way the story ties up, even with all the painfully told stories of the side characters and the vicious greed and selfishness, the cruelty and greed of the world really is well told by the author. I definitely look forward to reading more work from this author. Lastly, the ending was spectacular! I didn't see the ending coming all the way until the last few chapters reveal. Kudos to the author for that! Managing to add the element of surprise and keep it going until that late into a novel is very difficult because it's often that you guess the correct villains, white lotuses, bosses etc quite early on. With this novel pretty much all my guesses were wrong which was such a great feeling. Overall, I absolutely adore the CP and the plot as well as this author! This is my new favorite in this genre and I highly recommend reading this as long as you can stomach the trauma and psych damaging story (at certain parts) and handle a bit of tragedy. Also, just read it for the cutie pie baby stone figure and our wonderful main CP! <<less

Uhhh yeah, even though I finished a lot of novel here, this is my first time to make an account just because I want to make a review on this novel.

The story may be a bit confusing because it is sometimes written in a different perspective. And I tell you, the flashback is really really super super duper long *sigh* before it goes to the original timeline *exhausted*. Some scenes are also not that well explained but above things, the story line and plot is a massive thumbs up 👌👍.... more>> The ML and MC are both funny when they banter with each other, the Gong always teases the Shou and it gives butterfly in the belly. There's also the presence of angst 🔪 but that just add with the ingredients.

Give it a try, I assure you that you won't regret it! I binged read this novel for a week (chapters are super long so its worth it 👌) <<less

This story is easily in my Top Five list. Chapters were Exciting from start to finish with a cute power couple willing to sacrifice all for each other and funny side characters that lightened the tragedy-heavy plot. Also Very Well-translated.

My only issue with this novel was that some parts were a bit confusing and not all the characters' issues were explained/resolved. But I figured it was the author's intent to leave a little mystery for the readers to figure out for themselves.

First of all, the story's great.

There were some things that were confusing to me, but as the story progressed, most of it came together in the end. Some parts were really angsty and sad, some too cute and adorable and I found the humour great.

I grew fond of many characters (Fu Li, Huashang, Qianyu, the stone figure), while there were some which I couldn't quite fathom (Li Rong for example, I feel like he remained unsolved till the end somehow).

I liked Jing Lin a lot, he's just a precious lil... more>> boi. The part when he was confined in a coffin broke my heart; on the other hand, it's one of my favourite scenes.

Those cute moments between him and Cang Ji made me all fluffy and fuzzy inside, but I didn't quite like Cang Ji's overbearing personality, and the situations where Jing Lin couldn't stand up for himself when Cang Ji "mol*sted him". Well, I guess that's just how their personalities are? At least Cang Ji said it himself that he's quite a scum. This can pass though, I've read stories with much worse characters.

Now, Nan Chan made it onto my favourite novels list. Some things, characters, developements weren't that great, but nothing's perfect and I'm content with the experience I've had with this novel.

I'm really happy I read it! Time to look for some fanart on the internet~~~ <<less

I liked the story, especially the ML and MC's relationship, it is really heartwarming and I had so much fun with their banters.

I found the plot confusing and redundant at some points but thinking it in retrospective, it all came full circle at the end.

I appreciate the translator's warnings, though I don't think it was a very dark novel, it does touch topics that can be triggering for some readers. The translation was great, the notes helped a lot, I enjoyed having more insight about the culture.

Overall, it's a nice... more>> and heartwarming novel with intrigue and mystery, the humor also was very good and the characters were endearing. <<less

Disappointing is the word.

Had high expectations going in considering the positive reviews and this author being the same as QJJ's but it just didn't live up to my expectations...

You ever drop a novel because of a character?? Yes well I just did.Cang ji.....I hated his character from the very beginning and he didn't disappoint through the 51 chapters that I endured...

Cang Ji was very manipulative and even sexually assaulted Jing Lin (which never ended up being addressed). Now using SA as a plot device is not an immediate negative... more>> but that is only if it is done well. In novels like 2ha it is used to add to the psychological aspect of the novel while also being portrayed as a major character flaw that should not be admired. Cang Ji was only ever treated as a smug and snarky love interest for this behavior which made the novel borderline uncomfortable to read.

"he is mine, I want to eat him" and this was repeated in ever chapter it got really boring.. his pattern of dubcon and possessive behavior really bugged the hell out of me

As for Jing lin, he felt emotionally withdrawn from the romance, like all times it just felt like he was being forced into it ; he was emotionless and everytime he returned the cj advances it just felt like coercion idk...

"I have a man I love, in the clouds, in the sea, in my heart" Apart from poetic quotes like this, their romance felt incredibly flat and bland...

Now I liked JL as a protagonist and his plot really held on but can't ji really bugged me, I hated him so much I dropped this damn novel..

The author is great at world building though and has a way with words but I just wish the MC and ML dynamics were better <<less

Took some time to read this, and it was so worth it in the end. I am very impressed with this author whenever I read anything of theirs. I think going in blind is one of the better ways to take in this story so I won't say much, just that it's worth the time.
