ie. A lot of things were resolved ‘off screen’ - MC’s business, the war, the political situations
MC is in a new world where most people are pieces of sh*t and kindness is basically non-existent. He’s alone and weak, but he constantly fights against that hedonistic mindset. I can see how he fell in love with the ML, who literally grew up in that culture but still recognises it’s wrong.
I think they’re referring to the scene where MC was almost ass*ulted by the prince. Off-topic: if an SA scene occurs and your first thought is ‘what an idiot MC’, please reevaluate yourself. In this case, MC was definitely not s*upid- he knew the risks of going but also knew his territory would be at risk if he refused.
The aristocrats in this world are pure evil. The things they do are horrendous. But, I don’t think it’s farfetched. In fact, a lot of what they do (dwarves as amus**ent, having s*aves, drug parties) weren’t uncommon in real life history. Yes, people are grey but people, especially nobles, have also committed atrocities without any guilt.
People are also saying the MC became weak at the end, thought I thought he was strong when he walked to every church in the pouring rain and wore ML’s jacket despite the backlash. I do get why people don’t like how he basically gave up at end when ML was missing, despite his initial goal to improve his territory. The mentality of ‘I can’t live without them’ is never good. However in the MC’s position- someone who is only close to one person in the entire world and is dying anyway- it makes sense why he held ML of higher importance than his ‘people’.

- The plot grew angsty in the last few chapters for no particular reason-

[collapse]
It's true that there isn't anything here that's not been done before or that the characters are ground breakingly original but given it's relatively short length it does brim with interesting philosophies and unique world building for something this short. I spent over 5+ hours on this and consider every minute worth. Therefore highly recommend! The fact a life sacrificial trope where "I'll replace your life with mine" and a near death sickness trope took up the last few chapters for the characters to come to terms woth their feelings irks me a bit. The final conflict could have been them awkwardly solving their emotions and it would have made for a better story than the angst-fest that slapped me across the face in the last chapters
first warning: the title and even synopsis to me have nothing to do with how the actual novel plays out.
I won't lie, I didn't really like the ending as first, but when I reread the last 3 chapters I fell in love with it.
except from prince Andrew I wanted that man to die and burn.
I just wished they had told us who ended up ruling and probably given some extra, cause it felt like they whole story ended when the MC and ML fell in love and they was so much more story telling to be done.
As an adult, he was stabbed through the heart by a
woman he barely knew but claimed to love him. If
there was one truth he'd learned, it was that love was
destruction. Rege Grande was a formidable warrior and a
renowned playboy. The gallery in his family's castle
was filled with dozens of portraits of beautiful women,
all his former lovers. He had no intention of falling in
love with a man. After Jian Qiao died, he transmigrated into a medieval
world of startling cruelty, but the nightmares from his
traumatic past shattered his health. His only goal was
to improve the lives of his city's people. Rege Grande
was just another obstacle to overcome. And yet, somehow, this most improbable couple might
turn out to be perfect for each other...? MC is adorable I can't help but want to protect him completely at all times. I just wanted to reach in and give him a long hard hugggg ML is just as cutee, there was no need for excessively obsessive or possessive behaviour because his love was shown though his actions and emotions. Honestly he was the best point of the novel for me, I'm so sick and tired of cardboard MLs who only know how to spend money and superficially dote on the MC while being toxic and borderline emotionally abusive. Rege was just perfect for me I wouldn't have him any other way. The relationship progression was PERFECT we knew they loved eachother and they were amazingly cute and loving and ahhh I was giggling like a 4 year old constantly. So cute so lovable argh my teeth were rotten from the sweetnessss Side characters are well thought out, even though there were few.
I actually really loved Cassia despite her flaws, I think her character really reflected how women would have actually been and I absolutely loved when she was able to reach her own comfort instead of continuing to pretend so she could gain the favour of those sleazy nobles. She wasn't perfect but she was real.
- I wish the author could've made the ML's favourite painting into the MC, sadly it was just thrown/kept away
- their romantic relationship was full of fluff and sweet nothings but the conclusion seems so rushed to me Awesome translation quality from foxaholic! Cheers~
