It is the best story I've read so far. It has everything, funny, thrill, suspend, love, sacrifice, and... everything. I've read it 3 times already.

This is my first danmei novel and it got me hooked on reading it all day. Really love how the characters' chemistries are in the story and how we got to try to solve the mysteries along with the characters. This might be the first danmei for me but it sure opens up my world for danmei and BL novels. Big thanks for the translator of doing a really good job for bringing this novel for english readers <3

I absolutely love this, the last battle feels a little bit rushed and some mysteries aren’t actually solved, but those things don’t take away from the story at all. It’s very easy to understand, especially if (like me) you don’t understand Cultivation novels

Very deep feelings reading this. You can't help being deeply touched by the fates of each of the characters. I also liked the humor sprinkled throughout the story. And also the shamelessness of the main characters love 😄

In this second life, do you think Wei WuXian can clear up his own name? And in this second life, can you count how many uncles Jin Ling have? XD. Just read it!

I don't want to drag anyone who's not yet tained here so a little warning. This novel includes profanities, a lot of explicit details about s*xual interc**rses (especially in the extras).

I rate this novel 4.7 out of 5 stars. After a lot of flashbacks, your heart will receive a lot of butterflies and band aids so you'll definitely... more>> heal despite of crying in so many chapters so worry not!

I highly recommend this novel to the readers who love WuXia novels and wanted an exciting roller coaster ride! Yes to homo in the second life is a must! *Winks* <<less

I seriously like this book. I have read lots of Yaoi book since last year and after watching The Untamed, I put it at the back as I wanted to read other first. Finally picked it up and I must say, I personally enjoyed it. It was a great journey....

This novel was amazing. Spectacular. Amazing. Fantastic. I love it so much and it holds a special place in my heart.

I was immersed in the story and all of the characters, but the dynamic of the main relationship was so well-written and one of the best part of the story. The relationship between the MC and ML develops slowly and gradually, a slow-burn romance to die for. The care and respect that they have for each other is just amazing to read about. The romance is realistic too (!!!) and... more>> subtle at times, but definitely there, and absolutely beautiful. The main characters are so loveable (yet well written and realistic!) that I've gotten probably overly attached to them. The MC is somewhat morally grey and layered, and I love him for that.

The side characters are also so good, and the relationships they have with the main characters is complex, detailed, and incredibly interesting to read and think about. I also love how the novel depicts truly well-written familial and platonic relationships. Some of the characters aren't very likeable to me, yet I can't bring myself to hate them completely. I see bits of myself in them and I love that about these characters.

Lastly, the plot. It's quite good as well. Compared to longer novels, this one has a more succinct plot, but I still found it interesting, especially with the format of the novel and how it jumps from the present to flashbacks. Typically when I read novels with this type of format, I get bored with the flashbacks, but the ones in this novel were surprisingly well done. Though this novel has a HE, there were definitely parts that were absolutely heartbreaking and broke me. A perfect balance of angst and wholesome, comedic, moments.

Overall, this was just so good. I've read MXTX's other works before this one + a few other novels, but this one beats all others. I've also re-read this several times before leaving this review, and as another review mentioned, I pick up new details and layers to the story each time. This isn't to say that this novel doesn't have some minor flaws (small plotholes or a side character I would've liked to be fleshed out more), but it's truly a masterpiece nonetheless.

In short, I adored this novel and everything about it. Enthralling characters, an interesting plot, and a beautifully written slow-burn romance. <<less

Everyone basically knows this novel, it has an anime, a drama and even an audio. It has everything which just shows how popular it is.

So I'm just gonna talk about what I like.

I loved the juniors so much and how Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji was like the parents and they were the children.

Too bad the author didn't wrote more about them so I was happy with the extras when they appeared.

I love MC and ML's personalities. Almost all the characters were fleshed out and had distinct personalities.

I've never written a rewiew before but FOD made me want to say a few words. The best danmei I ever read. Wei Wuxian is also my favorite character. This novel holds from beginning to end, there's no way to let it go.

Best xianxia, I liked the relationship between wwx and lwj. Everything special about ML is connected to MC somehow. They fit together so well adding the great plot about the mystery behind the entire sequence of events and great side characters with their own character development 👏🏼👏🏼 After reading the novel, I just had to eat the entire mdzs franchise and idk what to do now that I’ve finished 🥲

Really great novel, but I would just beware of the nsfw scenes since some of them involve Wei Wuxian's canon dubcon/noncon kink, which a lot of people may find uncomfortable. However, there are only a few of these scenes, and they're mostly in the last stretch of the novel, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Although I wasn't that fond of long flashbacks, you wouldn't actually understand the story without it. This novel was well-written and all the characters, even the antagonists are likable. This story doesn't focus only in romance but more on in their sect problems or the conflicts. The balance of all the genres was excellent and the characters all have their own major roles to play (ig except the other sect leaders bcs they're useless af).

I feel like it is the author's trademark to make the MC and ML enter a relationship only when the story is about to finish (even in TGCF, it's like that) ??? I mean I ain't complaining but I really want to see more interactions as a couple between the MC and ML in the main story, not only in extras. However, their lack of label in the main story before the ending doesn't stop the dog food from being shove in my face so yeah...

This is one of the best translated c-novels out there. Exiled Rebels' translation quality is excellent. And the book itself, is a holy wow.

Before anything, this novel is categorized as BL. So yes there is a gay romance. But don't let that stop you from reading this masterpiece. This novel is 10% super slowly hinted romance (the best kind), 10% complex relationships with side characters, and 80% killing demons and solving mysteries. It's basically an epic adventure. The character development and pacing is extremely well done. I just finished reading... more>> 74 translated chapters, and I am now in book hangover territory.

The main character is Wei Wuxian. He is a troublemaker with good intentions. He is shameless, mischievous, reckless and an arrogant super genius. He single-handedly started demonic cultivation. During the sunshot campaign, he used his dark powers to fight against tyranny and oppression, thus earning him a legendary reputation. After the war, people feared and misunderstood him. Eventually, the dark path took a toll on his temperament. Wei Wuxian got out of control, was betrayed and was killed.

13 years later, Wei Wuxian is summoned into the body of a gay lunatic. The deal is that he gets to possess the lunatic's body for life, but he has to fulfill the original owner of the body's revenge wish. Along with that, he is also hiding his real identity because a lot of people hate/fear him for the demonic things he did in the past. Somewhere along the way, common goals align and he goes on a journey/adventure with Lan Wangji, an old friend from the past, who helps him hide his identity and stays by his side. Lan Wangji is very prim and proper, he is a stickler for rules, and the silent type. He has mastered the art of poker face and doesn’t show his emotions. Both men are badasses and there are a lot of hilarious interactions between the two of them.

I also liked reading about the flashbacks of the past, showing us how the characters met, Wei Wuxian's relationships with side characters (like the backstory with his sworn brother Jiang Cheng) and how Wei Wuxian turned to the dark arts and became the infamous grandmaster.

This book will take a while to get into. The first few chapters are really heavy with world building and character introduction. What's more, each character has three names - a birth name, a more formal name and a title. There are also a lot of different sects, with each character belonging to a certain sect. So that took a while to get used to. But once I got past all those important details, the story got better and better. Trust me.

If you like action and adventure, slow-burn romance, paranormal mysteries, humor, well-developed characters, ancient fantasy world settings, then this is for you. <<less

I wanna review you. I Really really do!! But I actually read you too fast that I didn't fully enjoy you that much But I love you so pls don't hate me. But to make it up for you, what I did do is read the manhua, watch both the donghua and live action.T^T.

P.s You know the feeling when your reading the novel and got curious and spoiled yourself... well thats what happened to me. I knew I shouldn't have read all of those meme!

I read this last year but,... more>> I don't know what else to say about this novel because I think all the things that should have been said about it, has already been said (good and bad ones). MXTX works actually made my danmei standards high. The characters, the plots. So I'm just going to list down this characters that made an impressions on me. This are all my genuinely review of them so don't take it to heart... or take it to heart, I don't care/mind. Also I reviewed this based on how much I enjoyed reading and being part of this novel/journey so, it might have its downside but what matter for me is I enjoyed it. Might not be your cup of tea though.

    • LanZhan, the untainted pure and majestic in the morning and a h**ny rabbit in heat at night. The epitome of the meme, where the guy says I hate *insert name here* while sticking wallpaper of that said guy and fr*ckin' waited for that said GUY for 16yrs with no assurance whatsoever if he will ever return, playing the inquiry just so he could atleast hear that persons voice.
    • WeiYing, both being a prodigy and dumb dense as f*ck at the same time. That said GUY.
    • JiangCheng, sad JiuJiu.
    • LanShizu, adorable, must protect radish son/child of MC and ML.
    • JinLing must protect spoiled boi. Shipped w/ A-Yuan. Still deciding if top or bottom, preferably top. dunno.
    • LanJingyi, force to be here and to face (scared of) ghost because his a Lan. Also he funny.
    • WenNing my fave unappreciated cute undead boi. (I you). Me: *sticking him to your face* Appreciate HIM!!!

    • MoXuanyu, read Zelda's work at Twitter #moxuanyu and you'd appreciate him a lot more!!! (pls pay me for promoti-) kidding aside so sad he didn't get that much story time. Me: *sticking him to your face* Appreciate HIM!!!

    • WenQing, your hot rich talented sister whom you always compare yourself and is your role model. Whose actually is a very resilient woman, can do all, healing, farming, housework etc. Also a surgeon.
    • JiangYanli, an angel. Metaphoric or...- both. Best sister award. WenQing was the last year winner.
    • LanXichen, best wingman. The we thought his going to turn out to be the second plot twist (preferably an evil guy) but is actually just a kind supportive brother.
    • JiangFengmian, best uncle, best husband, father...? Maybe, just... good, average, I guess? His spirit meme: I don't have a favorite child. Well just rest assured he is not like JinGuangshan <==worst father. His 100000000x way better than him.
    • JinZixuan, he could've been the 2nd greatest dad... to live, In your face dAd!! And the worst person to give you courting advice. I repeat don't seek him help for cOuRtInG.
    • Madam Yu, looks at WeiYing, hissess~ *angry Madam noises*. The president of the JYL x JZ fan club.
    • Madam Jin, Vice-president of the said fan club.
    • JinGuangYao, I'm taller than him. I want him to meet Levi though.
    • JinGuangshan, Let just agree that the whole f*****g novel wouldn't have happen if this f*****g c**t wasn't as sl***y than a f*****g

This is my fourth time re-reading this and that should tell you everything. It's true though that now I fast-forward through lots of things and, even when I first read through those plots, I wasn't really that interested.

This novel has flaws, there're some very awkward transitions and fast turns that make you wish they had a little more of polish, maybe a good editor that would have advised the writer to pace themselves at those points (the writer improved A LOT on this with their newest novel or they got... more>> a good editor this time who advised them properly), but even with all of this, it's still a four stars to me and I'm surely will reread it again in the future. And that's all on Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji (eternally Lan Zhan for me), they are just that amazing, ask anyone, I'm sure we all agree on this.

There're so many reviews, so I won't say more than this as I'm sure even this must have been already said.

Mo Dao Zu Shi is the very first novel of MXTX that I've read and I wasn't disappointed in any way.

  • The structure of the whole novel is already solid with the plots resolved considering that it was already revised by the author.
  • The story started on the present and there will be intervals showing the backstory bit by bit. There's not much romance at the start, but as the story progress and the past is revealed, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's relationship develops in a nice phase aligned with the story line.
  • You'll won't be thrown by sudden plot twists where you'll question where it suddenly came from because as you delve deeper in the story you'll start to link those prior information you have to the changes that happen.
  • You might get frustrated on the long backstories about the other characters and have the feeling that you would rather much prefer to get a development of the main couple, but those are crucial to understand what's going to happen next.
  • The smut scenes are on the extra chapters so if your uncomfortable about it, its totally fine to skip it and it doesn't affect the main storyline. But yes, it is a treasure trove to those who are fine reading it.

This was the first chinese novel I read and pretty much set the standard for all the ones I read after. To this day I still don't know how to summarize this novel properly. It's in a way a mystery story but also about a man and his life story.

It's simply a story that will always remain in my heart.

It is difficult to describe this book. It has everything one needs. The plot is spectacular, innovative, and addictive. Wei Ying, the main character, is funny and makes you smile often because of his outgoing and playful nature, but beware, you will shed gallons of tears for him. This book will make you suffer, but at the same time it is a balm for the heart. Everything will be okay in the end. In fact, it will be a huge relief and you will cry with joy to see them... more>> finally happy.

I loved this book. You can't get enough of it. <<less
