Light and fluffy.

The story is a quick and short fantasy romance with no big ups and downs and centered purely around surviving romantically in a new fantasy world with a fantasy creature.

Can you even call it smut though? It is more explicit than most romance fantasy genres but that alone doesn't make it a smut novel.

Now this was just cute!

Very light read about a romance between a teenager and a curious mermaid, one thing I really liked about this story was that the mermaid was very much a non-human creature, it wasn't a human conveniently disguised as a mermaid, but felt like an actual different species which made the interactions between the leads much more interesting because the author takes the time to explore nuances and mannerisms that make them so different.

The ML: 4 stars for my beloved mermaid!!!! I swear he is the cutest... more>> ML in this world. Very soft, sweet and indulgent ML, he is a bit vain (who doesn't love ~aesthetics~ I mean come on) which made for great laughs. I kept finding myself saying, "awwww baby!!!" The FL: I liked the FL, she isn't cold and calculating, she's a teenager who is helbent on surviving. She wants to be independent and does her best yet at the same time she knows when to accept some, which is honestly the biggest plus for me to see how pragmatic she was. My only gripe is that homegirl was just okay with leaving her parents and her life behind, there was no angst, she just.. Accepted her fate. Other than that, I liked her a lot!

The story: there isn't angst, not to say that nothing bad ever happens, but it's dealt with very quickly. The story doesn't deviate from its original plot: explore the relation between FL and ML of two different races, and that's it. So it makes for a very light and interesting read, perfect for when you just want a light romance between two youngsters :) <<less

This novel is so good!
There's everything I like in a novel, there are cute scenes, hot scenes (actually it should be cool kkk), everyday life, ups and downs, little misunderstandings, and misunderstandings make sense because in this story FL goes to another world (?) and has a racial and language barrier (this is so cool to read, but unfortunately not all trips to other worlds address this barrier).

It must have negative points, but for me they are so small that it didn't interfere with reading and I don't even remember them (I just read the whole novel at once now).

I stumbled onto this story without knowing anything about it, if I had I wouldn't have expected to like this so much.

It's cute and sweet and surprisingly relatable and believable.

The FL was just helpless enough to feel like a real girl from a modern world suddenly having to live in a very primitive way, but also not useless. By the end she's gotten to a point where she could survive on her own, but any increase in her quality of life is entirely dependent on the ML, which is realistic.... more>> The progression of their relationship was perfect too, it didn't feel the least bit forced, which I was concerned about. Intraspecies relationships aren't usually my cup of tea, but I was 100% on board by the time it came to fruition.

This story was simply beautiful. I initially thought that the interracial relationship between MC and ML will make me uncomfortable but surprisingly, I love it. The author really did a good job building a chemistry between MC and ML so I really didn't mind at all with the fact that MC was human while ML was a mermaid.

During that 1 year, we could see MC's struggle to adapt to her new life in the strange place with no one she could rely on other than ML whom she was hard to communicate to because of different language.

Actually, MC accept the reality quite faster but it didn't mean that she couldn't get frustrated. The target of her frustation was none other than ML who was always by her side. While some found that MC was annoying because she lashed out to ML who was innocent, I however found that MC's reaction was quite realistic. If I was in her shoes, I already gone mad long time ago. Imagine, you have no one to talk to in a strange place and the only companion you had couldn't understand you and vice versa. But MC gradually overcame her frustation and finally managed to communicate with ML (although limited). Later, MC found that she started to fall in love with ML. As for the rest, you probably could guess it.

I also love the extras with ML's POV. I finally know what ML thought when he met MC until they became together. As for the alternative plots after the epilogue, I choose to ignore it because I don't want to shatter my ideal ending that already rooted in my heart. <<less

Came for the smut, stayed for the ML. This novel is so cute and I genuinely felt bad when the ML felt hurt by the FL. FL is kinda cold but also kinda friendly. The ML is a male mermaid and he's super cute. It's an adorable novel. Very enjoyable 8/10

It's a cute little story with a cute ML and a good FML. Nothing serious. Just slice of life type. Good for a short read to freshen up after reading something heavy for the mind.

Still is one of my favorite novels to date. Cute character interactions, a great translator and well-paced story! Although some might find the situation hard to believe, the author put lots of thought into explaining the main characters resourcefulness and survival techniques, such as finding food and shelter. It's no replica of reality, but then again it's a mermaid novel. Hell, she even mentions the MC's menstruation, it's nice to have a novel acknowledge realism like that. I hope this author keeps writing, she's got talent.

This is honestly one of the most heartwarming romances. It's reasonably short, but very well written. The style is very much "show not tell" and even until the end we don't know any more about the mermaid race than the MC does. Although I do like to know more, I think this fits the style of the story really well. I would have loved to see more of their life during child-rearing, but understood the author basically saying they ran themself ragged and had always planned to end there.

MC has a well-developed personality that shows through despite really not having much in the way of dialogue due to language barriers. She is cold and independent, but becomes very vulnerable and reliant on the ML due to him literally being the only intelligent being she ever interacts with after transmigration and heavily relying on him for survival.

I was a bit surprised that many survival tactics present in other transmigration novels didn't come into play, but honestly it does make sense. She was only 15 when she transmigrated, which is not really old enough to have a lot of the odd skills that many MCs have in novels at a young age. I was somewhat expecting her to be more overpowered when her first skill introduced was archery, but actually it's not overplayed. She's not the most undefeatable person, she just happens to occasionally be able to supplement her food supplies with prey.

She never introduces modern knowledge or technology really, just fire and making basic tools. Even for clothes, she never figures out tanning or similar and has to make new ones every month as they rot. But why would a 15yo know how to tan? Most adults probably could not figure it out on their own as modern tanning uses chemicals that would be difficult to replicate, and only heavy survival enthusiasts would know, for example, that you can tan with brains or egg yolk. Plus, since the ML took care of her, she wasn't necessarily put in a position where she had to sink or swim technologically.

MC definitely adapts to the world instead of changing it, and it works very well for this story. It is a sweet, precious island romance between a human and a merman, probably one of my favorite stories! <<less

THIS STORY IS ONE OF THE DIABETES KIND. I want me some Andrew Mermaid!! He is so sweet, coquettish, and very loving. He's always there for Ye Zheng. And when he does something good, he wants to be praised. Ahh, let this old woman praise you!!

Their interactions were so adorable and heartwarming. If you want to read a fluffy story of a mermaid and human, please read this. It's like the Little Mermaid but instead of the girl, the guy is the mermaid. I also read some comments and they say it's a bit like the "Shape of You" movie. With that said, I will watch that movie. Personally, I enjoyed this a lot. It was interesting, cute and funny.

I'd recommend this if you're looking for a medium length, rather light and mostly sweet read. The leads' relationship is quite cute and it was interesting to see them getting along and gradually growing closer despite being of different species. As well as how the author set the mermaid species' traits and characteristics in this novel. If you're unsure whether to read this, I'd say give it a try. As for the translation quality, nothing really comes to mind... more>> which means it must've been good. Just as a heads up, the first 4 chapters from a different translator than the rest will have flaws but it'll still be readable.

I'd like to address some points mentioned in a review, which initially made me hesitate to read this. It's about the MC's supposedly rude behaviour towards the ML as a result of him doing stuff not fitting well with her as a result of species' culture differences. To that I can only say that she's not even 16 when the story starts, and although she's smart and proactive about her life, she's not perfect - as none of us are. Having lived a normal life, it's no wonder she wouldn't know about interacting with other species like that and would try to adhere to her human culture and values, or at least the core of it. That said, if a member of another species touched your body with no ill intentions, and you could see they think nothing of that kind of thing, you might still personally view it as an invasion of your privacy and react accordingly. With that in mind, her behaviour isn't that unreasonable, and oftentimes it's actually rather funny.

She geta pregnant, has their kid who grows up within 2 years, not only that IT MEANS HER HUSBAND WAS ROUGHLY JUST OVER A YEAR OLD WHEN THEY MET. Worse, somehow we have thrm switching between each other getting pregnant? I dont mind Mpreg, but its not believable, at this point the ML is a f*cking clam and didnt need her to reproduce at all.

Interesting concept although it requires many suspensions in disbelief. She would have already died a hundred times over from things like a lack of immunity to this new environment and drinking unclean water let alone the potential of toxins from her ‘potatoes’ or parasites from the raw food she is eating. I do like how the translator points out interesting aspects of animal physiology along the way to both acknowledge and teach the difference between this world and ours.

This gap between fantasy and reality is true of any prehistoric story... more>> in a world with a dominant non-human species where a human wanders in so I wouldn’t consider it a negative unless you can’t handle that premise. I started reading randomly based on the description alone and didn’t even realize the story would have a non-human race. It was not a bad read despite this.

It’s worth a casual read at least, there is enough unique about it to keep a reader engaged. Even among this genre it takes the unusual route of the other race being humanoid but not having a human form.

I will have to see if the story still keeps me engaged in the future. <<less

It was such a lighthearted read, simple and yet content but nothing more, so it's an easy 4 stars.

This was the first time I read about mermaid story in Chinese/Asian novel (if it's a tv drama, there's a bunch of it) so the first impression when I read this novel was weird and confusing lol.

I think some of the extra chapters are unnecessary, because it was the "cancelled" plot of the story. The author shouldn't have included it in the novel... So make sure you only read the extra chapter about their lil family and not the other extra chapter! <<less
