what to say... initially I thought that this was a wuxia transmigration story but I was wrong... and i’m glad that I decided to read it despite the initial hesitation... the translation was wonderful and had a consistent tone all throughout and was completely in line with the period/setting of the story... although it felt short, I also think it was just the right length for a story of this sort, it was enough to a tie up the loose ends that needed to be tied up... the MC and... more>> the ML were both adorable... like bright spots against the gloomy fog-heavy setting... <<less

before you decided to read this novel, you need to read the synopsis and especially the author warning

This is a super Jack Sue novel

You need to throw away your brain. Forget brain! All you need is happiness and excitement of love

... more>> The plot is simple, but it's lovely

It's a super light fluffy novel

If you want a heavy plot, or a realistic romance or even a realistic MC, then, don't read this

There's no logic in this world, so you don't need brain. But I am happy that author didn't try to drag the story longer. It's pretty good for a light reading

Translator quality is also pretty good <<less

I enjoyed this VERY² MUCH, ahhhh it's so cute and fluffy, I reaaaaally regret why I didn't read this earlier, bruh it has a semi realistic sense in Medieval (I don't really know if it's medieval hahaha) times and the main characters are enjoyable, they really fit for each other, there are so much to say, but I can't put it into words srsly, This may be one of my favorites

The MC is too lovely, soooo precious, really wanna... more>> just hug him tight and keep him by my side forever, he is THAT lovely

The ML is also likeable, a cute and childish personality, he is basically ur dream gong

Though both of them has flaws but it really made them more alive, I just love this two cinnamon rolls

I enjoyed this a lot. Big thanks to the translator for translating this (≧∀≦)

This story has quite the interesting duality. It's quite dark: both leads experienced traumatizing things, a big part of which shaped their character while growing up; the setting is medieval and it's very much the strong preying on the weak; people are ruthless and ethics are non-existent. Yet it's also light: both leads have their own moral code that sets them apart from the rest of the cruel world; they are increasingly kind and affectionate towards... more>> each other, they support and heal each other; particularly the MC is quite kind even to others and there are times when he helps others realize sth important and beautiful about life. The interactions between the leads are surprisingly pure and straightforward. For the largest part of the novel, they are only just friends, yet they express their adoration towards each other so openly and creatively. Creatively as in, I have never seen this amount coupled with quality of verbal expression of affection. It's very touching and it's downright impressive how the author came up with all of these heartwarming lines. Particularly Jian Qiao's words are lowkey lethal xDD he's just going straight for the kokoro over and over and over and over and... so on XD

All in all, it's a dark and cruel, yet healing and wholesome story. It's beautiful (▰˘◡˘▰)

In case you're wondering about a possibly abrupt ending you might've seen other reviews talking about: personally, I didn't see a problem at all. Imo it made sense to end the story in that manner. The author addressed everything that was important, left out stuff that wasn't necessary and rounded off the story nicely. Sure they could've extended it for another tens of chapters but would that necessarily have made for a better story? *presses X for doubt* xDDD

It's a good read, and I would recommend it. If you're at all into sweet talk and verbal cotton candy, do yourself a favour and dive into this masterpiece ahahaha xD <<less

This is one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read. I've read a lot, so that's a very big compliment.

In a world that lacks ethics and human values, in a world where human life is treated like garbage by people of higher authority, in a world where extortion and assault are common place...... this couple is really the purest thing on earth.

We accepted dubcon in BL, a long time ago. But in such a disgusting world, there was no dubcon or assault in MC and ML. The more disturbing... more>> the world, the more these two shone.

I want a little Jian Qiao in my pocket and Rege is the best husband material. MC is very smart in things that do not involve emotions. The people who are annoyed by his weakness do not seem to remember how severe his trauma is. And believe me, when you die once and remember it, not wanting to experience again, is the most reasonable thing in the world. Fear of death is very normal.

Jian Qiao is the cutest little bean on the planet and you cannot convince me otherwise! If I was Rege, I'd fall madly in love with him too! I felt so much heartache for him and felt just as happy when he recovered! It's perfect!

When I first started reading it, I could not imagine how I'd fall so madly in love with this story.

In my opinion, this is one of the best novels ever written and I'll die on that hill!!! <<less

Was it the best? No, but it was so sweet and wonderful to read.

The plot was more or less finished in the beginning so it wasn’t anything groundbreaking. The romance and the development of the relationship was what made this story so wonderful.

I don’t know if it’s because this is a pretty short story or if I am just numb rn but I didn’t grieve and feel that much as I should ve.

nontheless this was a beautiful story. I love love love the writing style. Everytime they talked about each... more>> other I felt like I read a love letter full of poetry. It might be a bit cheesy or cringy but all I could think was that it was beautiful and wonderful.

This story made me realize once again how much I love a good romantic wrinting style. <<less

Finished reading it just now on May 24, 2023 (Wednesday). The time rn is 3:00 pm. This was a nice story! I had this in my bookmarks and when I decided to read it, I actually didn't know much about it. I didn't check the tags or reviews, just read the synopsis and was interested! Didn't even know it would go into medieval times, that was a surprise for sure!

But I'm glad I read this. It was a nice sweet ride ❤❤❤

Its a short story with everything on it similar to japanese short stories I often read tho this novel is pretty much LIGHTS OFF (which again ive taken privilege to settle its genre).

World building aint really much but its suffice, Character development is both visible tho MC's part seem too abrupt which shows on how his supposedly tough to overcome trauma suddenly dissappearing by the very last chapter of whole story.

But still a good read. And again lets thanks the translator, you guys are always wonderful

Sweet but surprisingly short story.

Despite the sweetness of the love though, it does get dark and twisty, especially regarding the scars of both the ML's and MC's past. And as mentioned by another review, this story really does get into the dark side of the medieval times, especially with the class differences and the lack of regard for human life when living as the rich and powerful.

While some people might be frustrated by the MC's character, I think he had a good character arc and his hesitancy makes sense considering... more>> his past life's experiences. I do wish the last part of the story was a little more fleshed out, but overall a sweet love story that I enjoyed reading! <<less

Writing a review to remember this story for my future self.

I never read this kind of MC. He has traumatic experience but he didn't become suicidal. He is weak but at the same time he is strong. He struggles through life even when life wants him dead.

I love the idea and the plot itself is pretty good. And the setting is quite unique. But the author seems pretty rushed at the climax. They put a wrong focus on this story. They emphasize describing jewelry, smell, perfume, clothes, beauty, but they... more>> put cramped the climax of the story in just 3 chapters towards the end.

It will be good if they can prolong how the struggle of MC to accept the ML's love. How he finally realize that he loves the ML. We don't really get to see his inner talk.

It's a bit disappointing considered they put a whole 2-3 chapter just to explain about jewelry, smell, etc. Like when the courtesan wants to buy the jewelry. Or that Cassia girl. They are just minor character to spice things up. The important things is when the two of them realize their feelings for each other. We didn't even get a whole chapter for them to be lovey dovey. Such a disappointment.

Read it twice and still love it. I just love how it's written and how both leads love each other. The story's flow is just so right, their ending doesn't feel rushed since their feelings were already present since the few chapters.

I might still get back to this if I need something to read.

Some lf the readers here rate this quite low just because of the MC being weak. And Yes! MC is weak, however, he didn't want to be like that. He was traumatized since he was a kid and that was the reason why his body became weak which he didn't even want and not his fault. Who wants to be weak right? No One. I also don't want a weak MC in a story however, our MC here may be weak physically and mentally but there are... more>> a lot of reasons why he is also strong unlike the others, which is why I love his character a lot.

Enough with the ranting. The story itself is a gold, just like what the other said, this whole story focused on the progress and development of the couple but it also focuses on the development of both MCs as an individual. The ML had a character development because of MC, while MC lessen his trauma and fear of blood and water and etc. Because of ML which is a very lovely happenings in this novel.

This story may be less than 50 chapters which is very short (so I really want more), however it is enough to show the steady realtionship between the two. <<less

Plot and characters are great!! I don't have any complaint but it'd be great if there were extras about their life as a couple, maybe some scenes with a MC or ML jelous. I have a single regret (? Idk how to explain, I would love to read a chapter where MC tells ML about his previous life, such as his traumas and why he reacted so strong when ML confessed his love for him but thats just my wish

Translation is good. And makes me feel like I'm reading a Western novel. The style, the description and the flow all feel very Americanised, save for our MC being of Chinese name and this being BL.

MC and ML separated feel very much fleshed characters. But when our MC and ML come together, ML is a blushing youth while our MC becomes naive in love and warfare. It's a bit jarring to the senses. However, completed to the end. It's ok to kick start BL journey from Western novels to Chinese... more>> novels but for those tastes leaning more dark, definitely not the type for you <<less

Yoooo, this novel was gorgeous?? I feel so bad for both of them and all the pain they suffered as they grew up. But luckily our ML is strong and managed to grow up bright and cheerful and share his joy with our MC. Poor babies. I love them so much, just wish that there was more of their life together and that our MC explained more about his past life to him. Would have been super sweet.

It's so good and heart wrenching. My heart ache for MC and ML. Their pain made them understand each other and I love it. Not to mention the way he always put MC's safety and protection first, I love doting ML the most.

So far the summary do no justice for the story, the title too but it's okay. This is my number 1 favorite short story, don't hesitate to read this masterpiece!
