Yu Ziyou and Zhong Wan served different masters.

They had once been the closest of souls, and were the bitterest of enemies.

After losing the fight for the throne, Zhong Wan brought his two young masters with him far toward the borders for the sake of survival. He relied on the little friendship that existed between him and Yu Ziyou when they were young. He borrowed some of his personal belongings while also dropping various hints around which made everyone think that there was something intimate going on between them.

Given the Yu Clan’s powerful authoritative presence in the imperial court, this appearance of a close tie allowed Zhong Wan to live a much better life than before. As such, the stories he cooked up began to carry more and more weight.

As rumors of their lovely romance spread a thousand miles into the horizon, Yu Ziyou, who was located in the distant capital city, eventually caught wind of his deeply moving and epic love affair. In a trance, Yu Ziyou, who had been completely brainwashed for seven years, believed in them. He guessed something special really did happen between them back in those years…

This is easily one of my favourite historical danmei.

I love reading palace politics so the book was very satisfying. Both MC and ML are very well written amd the plot is logical, entertaining and keeps you engaged.

The best part about the novel is its humour. The character of MC and his reactions and thought process are hilarious.

... more>> The relationship between MC and ML and the many misunderstandings and incidents that happen will leave you laughing out loud.

The romance bewteen the two is a slow burn with a sweet amd satisfying end. The confession scene is easily in my top three favourite danmei confession scenes. I really like both MC and ML and their relationship.

Overall, its a right balance between humor, angst, romance and drama.

The only star I deducted is because of the ending. I dint know what was I expecting but it felt kinda rushed to me.

I would also like to thank the translator for doing such an amazing work! <<less

i knew this thing is an antique when I can remember "the blood no longer disgusting and the undergarments suddenly become enchanting"

HA! This thing is seriously hilarious. I actually think this is supposed to be a tragic story but the author just smashed those shameless personality into the characters and boom, its no longer sad. Tbh I started reading this because of the summary (it looks super interesting imo), and yeah it kinda live up to the summary ;)

i gave this 4 star because this novel failed to hook... more>> me in certain chapters (i left this behind and started another novel instead of finishing this) but then I returned and finished this. Overall this is a good read! <<less

As expected of a novel that's been 16 years in the making, it's curated beautifully in all aspects. I'm so glad I picked it up, it was a pleasant surprise.

MC is a crackhead, ML is a literal crackhead and they both have a tragic past. They made me cry when they described what they went through, and I was so happy for them in the end.

The characterization is stellar, the plot gripping, I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. The translators did an amazing job too!

The... more>> only two things I'm slightly peeved about are 1) I wanted more detailed descriptions, I felt like they are a mere brush on the canvas instead of the whole picture, but I also think I was spoiled by MXTX's and Priest's descriptive passages. And 2) side ships. There is one but I wished the author lingered on it a bit more. These are very very minor things that did not detract from my overall enjoyment though. So full marks! Highly recommended! <<less

Hilarious.

Not a moment without crack in it. Both the MC and ML are just endearing.

Honestly, the politics of this novel wasn't too shocking but the flow of the story was appropriate so I didn't mind it too much. I gave it 4.8/5 cause I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Rating: 4/5- A really intriguing plot. Not overly complex but intelligent and interesting. Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed reading this. It's not a very long story but it's very well written and I personally liked the actual plot and all the political drama and family discord. It was well thought of and very well played out. Although I felt this CP was incredibly awkward and not really a favorite of mine, as characters alone they're both realistically written and very enjoyable to read. In their own right they're very strong and have... more>> many likeable points.

I would definitely recommend reading this for the story. It was very well told and excellently translated. <<less

This was honestly my favourite novel. How I wish I could go back in time and reread it again. Overall, this was a mix of court politics (written slightly mystery-novel style), fluff, angst and slow burn. What I liked about it was that the court politics were not over-dramatic "dogblood drama", but rather pretty well-planned schemes. Written in a mystery style, hints were slowly given to you bit by bit.

Romance wise, it was fluffy, humourous, and angsty. I loved how MC was top-level shameless but does it with a sense... more>> of purpose (be it for survival, to get someone to do something, or to seduce ML). He's smart, and together with ML, their scheming brought about many misunderstandings between each other and later, the downfall of their "enemies". As the story unfolds, you get to understand the complexity of both characters, which was really well developed, and you really feel for them. It was pretty heart wrenching, and I cried. Later, they also made me laugh and giggle from all the s*upid and shameless antics, so it balances out.

Gotta admit though, trigger warning that ML was suicidal. He's pretty deranged, but for valid reasons which were revealed later, and he also got better bit by bit. I was slightly uncomfortable with how crazy he was at first, but I grew to appreciate the complexity of his character after learning about his background.

Honestly, the best part of the novel was the balance between the fluff, humor and angsty slow burn. The plot was interesting although not wholly unique, but the characters keep you on your toes in anticipation of what smart/dumb/shameless/cute things they might do next. Please do give this a try!!!

(Translation was AMAZING, explains all the meaning of the chinese phrases and contextual knowledge that you would otherwise miss without proper T/N. As someone who can read Chinese, I can tell a lot of effort was put into it. Kudos to them)

Edit: The audio drama, which I listened to after reading this, was also very very VERY good. I re-listened to it many many times, and now I'm back to read the novel too. <<less

• Really liked the fact that I could read both, MC and ML, emotional and mental up and downs. How they cared for each other, not just with their actions but words as well. I like it when the novel I'm reading, is not only revolving around what MC had to go through in the past/going through in the present but also what ML had been put through/is going through. Which is kind of a fresh air for me.

The story is quite mediocore, about imperial fights and all the mess, but I put additional rating for its comedy. Like, it's legit one of funniest character I've ever read. Read it for your own amus**ent

"I don't know whether to laugh or cry" probably the best description about the whole story, haha

Our ML, Yu She (Ziyou) is a tsundere who overthink too much with strange way of thoughts if it's related to MC. It so amusing to find out what in his mind, and his steward Feng also led astray... more>> by him.

The MC, Zhong Wan (Guiyuan) is a kind and smart person. But in front of ML, his imagination becomes wildly wholesome, h**ny soap opera material, and pure comedic.

Does Ziyou actually know or not... that men can't become pregnant?" Zhong Wan's voice trembled. "And does he also know or not... that even if they could, we would need to have s*x first... "

Here, Zhong Wan couldn't help but be a bit unable to accept the situation. How dare Yu She try to force him to have a child without even contributing anything?!

Then, between MC and ML, there's Steward Feng whom also a cherry on top in this whole circus

The pair truly entertaining throughout the whole story, but also heart breaking at times. <<less

I really adoreee this novel. The ML and MC interaction is always the best and made me laugh every single time. This is prob the only novel that made me laugh so hard despite the drama of the people around them. I also admire the author for not making this novel gruesome like the typical historical fight for emperor position novel, its just pure lovestory of the two MC. Its too fcking sweet ahhh I love them and their kinks lol

Oh a gem that's been completely translated! Many thanks to the translator!

Turns out I chanced upon the audio drama a while back but didn't understand it (did not read the summary) so wasn't hooked but this story was worth reading. It was the perfect blend of angst, romance, plot and comedy (oh it was so much funnier than I expected especially with such a heavy beginning).

I loved the characters, from the leads to the side characters and all their dynamics (esp between Lin Si and Zhong Wan and their... more>> "brotherhood"). And the politics were both heavy (poor ML) yet very brilliantly wrapped up.

There's also a very adorable side CP

regarding the very adorably dumb 4th prince and Lin Si but alas the scenes are not many. I wished there were more ACTUAL scenes of them interacting then just ML telling MC of what had happened.

Most of all I just adored how much affection the ML and MC truly had for each other and the way they supported each other (it was much needed for both of them).

A very satisfying read. Now I shall go back and appreciate the audio drama again. <<less

I couldn't stop reading this one and I love it so much I registered an account here just to comment lol. At first I hesitated to read this because of the summary BUT!!! The summary is very very misleading.

This is a very interesting story the ML and MC has such fun personalities. There's angst but not too much, not angst between the ML and MC but more of those people around them.

I so love the story. I wish there were more extras on their lives after everything that happened!

Maybe just... more>> the downside of this story was the snusnu was not detailed and very brushed over lol

The ML and MC are a match made in heaven! What I love about this novel is that the ML is so different from other MLs, he's really extraordinary.

I also like that there are angsty moments but while this moments are happening, the author would add in a funny scene that will make me laugh out loud! Literally!

I can't remember how many times I've laughed because of this story.

I also cried a lot because of what the MC and ML experienced. I'm just happy that even though they missed each other for 5-7+ years, they've found each other again.

It's so funny how the ML is so tsundere but it's also heartbreaking when you realize that ML really likes MC but he only pushes MC away because he doesn't want MC to fall in love with him and be sad when he dies <<less

TYQHM is absolutely HILARIOUS. You literally can't go a chapter without dying of second hand embarrassment or laughter. It's a light story, the politics talk aren't too dense and as you read it's super heart warming. I love the main couple they're perfect for each other, the remaining characters are a bit too much in the background but nothing is and shouldn't be perfect in this world. In conclusion, it's super enjoyable and funny, would always recommend.

Also thank you so much for the Chrysanthemum Garden translators!!!!!!

I'm really happy I came across this novel. I absolutely love the humor! The couple is absolutely hilarious but honestly love each other and want nothing more than to protect each other. Overall a a really good, serious plot but my favorite is the interaction between the MC and ML. I definitely recommend this one.

One of my favorite couples by far! They're hilarious and they LOVE EACH OTHER SM! I found myself tearing up for them, cringing for them, laughing because of them, but mostly, I found myself becoming all soft for them. I love them lmao. The plot is so nice as well. The translations really helped make everything easier to understand so that you don't feel too lost reading a story that's focused on politics.

This is one of he funniest novels I’ve read. The main characters are hilarious in their own unique ways and are literally perfect for each other. The story is nice too but I live to see interactions between the ML and MC. The translations are perfect too. It’s well written, easy to understand, and absolutely perfect. So happy I picked this up 💙☺️

Made me laugh out loud quite a few times (and cry a few times) while reading. Mostly at their crack antics & hilarious misunderstandings/thought processes. Almost butterflies at some parts.

One of the novels that I actually stopped for quite a bit in the middle (travelling for 3 weeks) and picked up again but still enjoyed it.

The start was a bit slow & confusing as the background is being set up. It gets much better after a short while.

So far the only tsundere ML that I’ve enjoyed, with some proper rationale... more>> (actually going crazy bc of tragic backstory) ; made for some funny push and pull with the MC. MC is a super intelligent, honourable gentleman who is also a h**ny cut sleeve which just makes it all very hilarious.

At its heart, it is predominantly a romance novel and I thoroughly enjoyed the dog food. The bumps and issues along the way helped up the tension but you kinda get the sense it will turn out well regardless—and it’s well-written enough that it’s not that predictable, and is actually a joy to read.

Other than the slower start, the tsundere aspect also took a bit to get used to as it affected how the plot moved. Also wished the many villains were smarter/more grey than just obviously selfish characters.

Overall, had great fun with the crack power couple. Would re-read! <<less

This book started off with a promising premise and two very interesting main characters. The humour left me in splits and I was excited to read how the plot unfolds. Unfortunately, after 60% of the book, the plot plummets. Nothing much happens for a major part of the book, and the MC and ML skirt around each other for too long to be endearing.

Had this book been shorter and the plot less circuitous, it would have easily been a five-star novel.

  • MC and ML have a very angsty relationship at the start due to their past misunderstandings but they slowly talk it out and such. They match well together in terms of intelligence, scheming and romance. LIKEE REALLY. Tbh I wished the MC had gotten like a powerful position @ the end too cause in a way he be sacrificing a lot for tht prince ning oldest kid and the ML but whateve urghs anyways the ML literally be only focusin on protecting the MC which was really sweet
  • So yes I wish there were more complicated schemes? Plus the MC dood so sed his reputation tarnished HAHAHAH the rumours always send me like their comedic duo is funny as hell aka MC & ML like the MC fr so unserious the ML be havin serious moment and MC be makin it funny like LMFAOOO his humour is top tier fr Im happy tht MC nd ML talked it out and got together and became an unsuppressable duo
  • Read it its quite fun and also amazing translation!
