Yu Ziyou and Zhong Wan served different masters.

They had once been the closest of souls, and were the bitterest of enemies.

After losing the fight for the throne, Zhong Wan brought his two young masters with him far toward the borders for the sake of survival. He relied on the little friendship that existed between him and Yu Ziyou when they were young. He borrowed some of his personal belongings while also dropping various hints around which made everyone think that there was something intimate going on between them.

Given the Yu Clan’s powerful authoritative presence in the imperial court, this appearance of a close tie allowed Zhong Wan to live a much better life than before. As such, the stories he cooked up began to carry more and more weight.

As rumors of their lovely romance spread a thousand miles into the horizon, Yu Ziyou, who was located in the distant capital city, eventually caught wind of his deeply moving and epic love affair. In a trance, Yu Ziyou, who had been completely brainwashed for seven years, believed in them. He guessed something special really did happen between them back in those years…

Honestly I’m really lazy to write reviews and I feel that anything good or bad has already been written in a much more eloquent way by many other people.... but I loved this novel soo much, thought I’d just help convince others to read. Read it! it’s cute, entertaining, fluffy and a bit sexy and everything one needs when escaping reality with danmei. Yes there might be better political intrigue or more realistic characters elsewhere but these two are just too endearing. And it is not misleading to say it... more>> has comedy.... really funny moments. <<less

Okay this novel is so good, characters are well developed, I heard the author took 16 years to complete this story, absolutely worth it. Both ML and MC are strong (not OP) and suffered so much in past and they are each other's first and only love. The love between is cute and fluffy and MC is hilarious at times. I recommend it, don't hesitate. You can read this on the website Perpetual Daydreams.

This is amazing! Both main leads were funny, but had their own personal characteristics.

The other characters weren't just there for show too, all of them were unique!

The plot was nice and unexpected, filled with twists and turns.

All in all, it was worth the read!

hoping for more extra chapters~

This is such a good read and really underrated. Under 120 chapers but it says all it wants. The author says it took 16 years to write??? But its a well planned book to me. I have read books that are great but are just WAYYYYYY too long..

Give it a go, only two way to go, either you like it or don't but.... its a short read... I love the all the characters. Not good at explaining but go read more reviews.

This isn't what I was expecting from the summary, but it's a great read.

Zhong Wan, the former charge of a prince who was accused of treason, returns to the capital under the Emperor's orders. There, he encounters Yu She, his rumored former flame, who in his absence has turned has turned from an upright prince to a feared madman.

The first half of the story focuses on Zhong Wan's investigation of Yu She's change of temperament, his schemes to protect his charges, (the children of a prince accused of treason)... more>> interspersed with scenes of Zhong Wan and Yu She's past. The second half focuses mostly on their relationship and the schemes of the court.

The story centers around the MC and the ML. There were other interesting characters, and I would have liked to see more of them than I did. The plot is decent, interesting enough but it's not something that truly wowed me. And though it did leave me satisfied, I do wish that the epilogue was a bit more fleshed out.

I really liked reading about their relationship. There's the cute and obvious fluff, but there's also the small details that you really have to realize by yourself; they aren't spelled out to you.

If you pay close attention to the characters' words and actions (especially in the earlier scenes between the MC and the ML, when they won't say or do things outright. Like, for example, the ML gesturing for the servants to light fires against the cold and ending conversations early because he realizes the MC is tired, vs later on draping the MC in his cloak, hugging him, and making sure he rests) you'll realize that there are a lot of subtle gestures and feelings that you might miss if you're just reading through the obvious dialogue and actions.

There's beautifully poignant scenes interspersed with comedy; I think the author did a great job of dealing with heavy topics but not making the story so angst filled that it's depressing or a chore to read. Though some may not like the comedy, as humor is subjective, this really had me laughing and enjoying myself every chapter.

After everything, I think this is a great story with good writing, a decent plot, hilarious comedy, touching prose, and a heart-warming romance. Those are this story's strengths.

If you're looking for incredible, surprising plots, intricate world building, monumental character growth, or a vast cast of interesting characters, I suggest that you go look for something else.

I'd also like to mention, as a plus to this author, they wrote a mute side character who communicates in sign language (and writing), showing the realistic drawbacks (he could've gotten out of that interrogation two hours earlier if his hands were free! 😂) and some pluses (when in an hours long debrief, he chooses to write, because it's faster and more detailed. When they need to have silent conversations, they sometimes use sign language.) but also not infantilizing him - he's still very capable.

Spoiler

They wrote a suicidal male lead who had fits of madness due to his drug / poison intake. And even with the wild mood swings, desire to make those who hurt him suffer, and erratic memory, I don't recall an instance where he said truly cutting words to the MC or actually hurt him, (other than a too tight wrist grab). Even dealing with mental illness and the side effects of drugs, he's still capable, and he's still very gentle with the MC.

[collapse]

I also really appreciate that they have such a healthy relationship that doesn't seem to fall into most of the weird tropes that you get when people write gay relationships. Or when they do, it's not a toxic mess.

Spoiler

I also think it's hilarious when you realize that the MC is the sly and cunning deviant, (but still innocent... he's just bluffing 😭 It's all bravado with him) forced to become mature because of his experiences, while the ML is still the pure and honorable one who wants to do things right when it come to Zhong Wan, even though he's otherwise a madman.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Though there weren't as many women as I'd like, it's still more than I'd see in a lot of BL. I like how you could see how they were forced into the roles they played by the misogynist social structures, while still being distinct people with desires of their own. The Princess Royal and the Imperial Consort, who had to rely on their brothers and the husbands they didn't choose, ambition fueled by their own greed and the choices of the men in their life. And Xuan Congxin, doing embroidery she was horrible at, bold and intelligent and so much more clearly suited for power than her brothers. I'm glad she got a chance.

[collapse]

And all of this was written, in a historical Chinese setting, well. At least, to my inexpert judgment.

And kudos to Sleepchaser for such a great translation. Thank you! <<less

I loved this story. It has a great mix of political maneuvering, second chances, and romance. All the characters seem well fleshed out, but the main characters especially are easy to relate to and root for. I like how both of them are reasonably smart and help support each other throughout the story. The ending also was especially satisfying - I couldn't imagine a tidier way of paying back debts and giving the main couple a happily ever after.

I found this novel through the manhua and I am so glad I did! It was a wonderful read.

The story has been written very nicely. Everything fits together well and even the revelations of the secrets about their past happens slowly and keeps the readers interested. The novel isn't too deep but isn't too light either. Although the couple have been through hardships before getting together, there's not much angst between them later on (only funny misunderstandings) ! They are very trusting of each other which warmed my heart. It's... more>> not the cheesy and fluffy kind of love, but deeply interwoven and heartwarming.

I also liked how the MC wasn't too kindhearted. Even though he had regret and guilt in his heart towards his foster parents (which he shouldn't have had since he already did more than enough), he still wasn't willing to let that steer his entire life. He is in love with the ML and, although he still cares about his foster family, he wanted to stay by the ML's side. It was extremely sweet.

The ML, although he loved the MC since long ago, is a tsundere! It was hilarious. However, after reading along, I realised that it wasn't just him acting hot and cold, but that
Spoiler

he considered himself unworthy of being with the MC because of past events.

[collapse]

Lastly, as many reviews have already stated,
Spoiler

the ML is su*cidal. However, he only has those thoughts at the start of the story. After that, he can no longer bring himself to die since he wants to grow old together with the MC.

[collapse]

All in all, totally recommended for people who are looking to read decent palace drama, a good love story and also sob a little for what the characters have been through. <<less

I want to cover my face the whole time. This duo got the short hand of the stick but it was so hard feeling sorry when they kept on doing embarrassing things in every chapter. Their reputation? Non-existent. Seriously, please breathe!

Their interactions were sweet and charming. The mischievousness of Zhong Wan would make you laugh and at the same time, make you feel so sorry for this poor dude who got no idea he's digging his grave. Yu Ziyou's not far off, while he's mind was a bit influenced by... more>> past poison leading to bouts of insanity, he actually is very devoted to Zhong Wan. The things they gave up, the things they held unto? It was pretty cool.

They only appeared briefly but there's a lot of side characters that made me love them.

Spoiler

The departed Prince Ning and Princess Consort Ning - They love Zhong Wan truly. Lmao, little Baobao's such a matchmaker. "Take care of yourself" This is actually Princess Consort Ning's last words. She was worried for Zhong Wan. Too bad there's not much seen from Prince Ning's side. Anyway, I love the chapter where it introduced what led the birth of Xuan Rui.

[collapse]

The ultimate face slap that I was waiting for didn't happen.

Spoiler

I was actually hoping for Zhong Wan to get his certificate from the imperial exam.

[collapse]

Ugh, what even are they doing?

Spoiler

Lowkey waiting for the whole background of the framing. Honestly, and what does Shi Hong think about this after?

It's a HE. No tragedy, no dog blood.

I felt for the helplessness of the characters but there's no bitterness at the end.

The romance between Yu Ziyou and Zhong Wan remembered me of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

For me is a well deserved 5 stars.

Incredible!

Im amazed of how the author managed to bring me from present to past to present and I am not confused at all, then made me tear-up at the first half and laugh so hard at the end of every chapter. I am lost for words for ZW and YS antics.

I like the story pacing, plot did not really go deep in politics, no complex palace intrigues but the way the story flows is quite enjoyable. There's this nostalgic feeling that you want to reminisce your teenage years as the... more>> leads remember theirs.

Kudos to translators! They made a good job. <<less

Give this novel a try!

Half of the book was fluffy romcom, while the other half was politics. The plot was good, not a masterpiece though. The ending was unexpected but believable.

ML- Whenever ML opens his mouth, you cannot know where he was getting at. He uses his words to torment others mentally while actions do the physical part. He plays the role of a suicidal mad man who is very smart underneath. Sometimes he gets more annoying than a mother of a maiden, well, one can say he's a guy... more>> with proper conduct, but his behaviour gave our flirty MC a very hard time.

MC- A shameless genius with a sincere, kind but courageous heart. "No matter how low one fall, no matter how unfair the circumstances are, just hang on, do your best, be confident, do not lose hope, one day there will come a day, when you can show the world, this is who I really am." MC showed this kind of attitude. But while in the other hand he was so a thick skinned, flirty guy, who was way too shameless when it came to his boyfriend ML. He was like waiting for ML to fu*k him and was asking for it.

There were lots of hilarious conversations between ML and MC, which make one laugh until their jaw hurt. Both of their characters were h**ny, but lovable, adorable.

A very nice book to read to be light hearted. <<less

Pros :

The ML is such a loveable character and gotta be one of my top fav ML. He used to be a patient and gentleman person then he became a black bellied lunatic ML. But I must say that ML is the model child for lunatic MLs out there. Even as a lunatic, ML still have a bottom line and morals.

official A : my wife don't let me eat this because she concerned about my health

Official B : my wife prohibited me eat that etc

ML : (also wants to brag)... My wife don't let me eat drug.

Officials :...

ML : (continues to brag) What he said makes sense, drug isn't healthy so I decided to stop eating it.

Officials :...a'ight

[collapse]

The humour in this story is good. The way ML interpreted things are sooo funny. I like how the relationship between MC and ML progressed, they start from being wary to eachother to opening up about their feelings to lovers.

The side characters are quite nice. They are not brainless and steward feng needs to get the best wingman award.

Cons :

From the description, I thought it's going to be a melodramatic historical novel that gonna need a lot of brain juice. But it's not a heavy read. <<less

I can't believe I put this off for so long. I feel bittersweet now that I've completed.

This is truly a recommended novel. Although the plot maybe not be much for those looking for political intrigue or even heavier plot. The story is balanced out with politics, palace scandals, fluffs and most importantly the comedy and humour. I LOVE THE HUMOUR. Totally go for it. Also the translators did such a good job. Woaw!!! This was a great journey. I enjoyed so much, I loved actually. The story's balanced, the political plot is interesting but it's not heavy, so if you like this, TYQHM is not for you. However, if you like a romantic story with amazing characters, you should give a chance to this excellent novel.

The book is full of surprises so you won't get bored, there is always a new thing to be discovered (and the end is perfection in it self). Maybe I'm overacting, cause Those Years in Quest of... more>> Honor Mine is already one of my favorites novels, but if you're reading this, believe me it's worth to read; I kinda "eat" it, my reading was so fast that now I'm regretfully, I miss them so damn much. Anyway, Zhong Wan (Guiyuan) & Yu She (Ziyou - Heir) are special, they aren't the usual characters that we see out there, Zhong Wan is loyal to the people he love and he has a adorable personality, he's intelligent to an extremely level (also he's a complete shameless person, you'll love him) and Ziyou is crazy, completely mad hahahaha I'm kidding, he's perfect! He loves Zhong Wan above anything and anyone else, be patient with him at the beginning, okay? Well, I guess this review won't help even a single person to decide if they will read it or not, but I just wanted to say how much I love them. <<less

I liked this one.

It had a good plot, a decent back story and memorable characters.

Not too much palace drama and schemes to make my head hurt but enough to keep me invested.

Some things were glossed over. No character was perfect. They all were awful people (except xuan yu and congxin) but their imperfections made them all endearing.

It was a good read. I had fun.

Wowwwww I have never seen such a shameless MC before he is similar to wei ying in shamelessness. This novelll is soooo good and sometimes at the start of the chapter it will be angsty but at the end it turned into humour....

MC - Shameless, Naughty, genius mind, loyal

What a shameles MC! I couldn't stop sneering and grinning whenever his mouth blabbers about those things.

The main couple's interactions are hilarious and there are times that I am embarassed by the both of them. The author is good at playing the scenes. Like, I thought the chapter will be angsty but then the author drops hilarious bombs at the end of the chapter so instead of crying I ended up laughing.

did ya guys think about how Zhong Wan and Yu She are possibly related to each other?

[collapse]

Some things were a bit unclear from the beginning to me, but as I was reading, it was all gradually falling into place and things started to make sense.

Spoiler

I was also wondering why Zhong GuiYuan immediately fell in love with Yu ZiYou and why he was adamant at staying in the Capital to help him despite Yu She being so cold towards him.. turned out he had already fallen a long time ago.. And Yu She knew about his feelings as well, besides him being imsecure for some time, he just didn't want to implicate Zhong Wan into the mess of his life.... oh man I'm just writing my train of thoughts here while I'm crying silent tears over how amazing this novel is

[collapse]

I love how smart both of them are, but at the same time they have those moments when they behave in such a immature and silly way which is just so cute.. They have very shaped out personalities as well, they really are well-written characters.

The humour was amazing. Period.

I laughed out loud so many times that I lost count of it. Almost every chapter had at least a tiny humourous element which could be found as comic relief in a very heavy scene or as a resulst of accumulated embarrassing misunderstandings.

One thing that has possibly left the deepest impression on me is the character developement they went through. It was such a journey from the beginning to the end, seeing their values change, setting their priorities, learning to forgive themselves and to wholeheartedly love another.

There were those little scenes when they said something briefly or did a little act which carried so much meaning - things that indicated their inner growth - and I always had the urge to cry whenever I encountered that.

One scene that broke and warmed up my heart at the same time is when
Spoiler

Zhong Wan broke down in tears in Yu She's embrace. I felt that in that moment of vulnerability they had gotten closer to each other than they had ever been. I cried while reading that. I cried badly.

[collapse]

I must mention the twins, too. Xuan Yu is a little cute airhead, while Xuan CongXin is a smart and strong girl. I'm really happy with the way they ended up in the story and I think that especially CongXin got what she truly deserved.

This is one of the quotes from the story I found moving -

Spoiler

«Yu She rose to his feet. And for the first time, he said calmly and without stress, “Imperial Father, from start to finish, I have never thought of wanting the throne. I only wanted... ”

Meanwhile, in the Imperial Clan Court, Zhong Wan looked at the dazed Yu Mucheng. In a hoarse voice, he said, “Ziyou only wanted to try his best... ”

“To move the misplaced broad and powerful gear from twenty years ago back to its correct position.”»

Anyone, please do me a favour and teach me how to prevent my tears from flowing!

[collapse]

Another one —
Spoiler

«Yu She fell silent for a short while. Afterward, he said, “Then your official position in the future... ”

“You can give me any position in passing. I’m fine with anything.” After a bit of thought, Zhong Wan rushed to say, “But don’t make me become an academician at Hanlin Academy. Give me a more practical position. I’m not looking for achievements and I don’t care about promotions. As long as I can help, then it’s good.”

Yu She gazed at Zhong Wan profoundly. “You don’t want to be conferred the position of marquis or higher?”

Again, Zhong Wan smiled. And he only mouthed, you don’t want to be the emperor?

The two shared a smile. »

No position or power mattered to them. All they wanted is to be together and love each other in peace. Truly, nothing else mattered.

[collapse]

There's so much I am recalling as I'm writing and I'm amazed again at how much I just love this story!
