Yu Ziyou and Zhong Wan served different masters.

They had once been the closest of souls, and were the bitterest of enemies.

After losing the fight for the throne, Zhong Wan brought his two young masters with him far toward the borders for the sake of survival. He relied on the little friendship that existed between him and Yu Ziyou when they were young. He borrowed some of his personal belongings while also dropping various hints around which made everyone think that there was something intimate going on between them.

Given the Yu Clan’s powerful authoritative presence in the imperial court, this appearance of a close tie allowed Zhong Wan to live a much better life than before. As such, the stories he cooked up began to carry more and more weight.

As rumors of their lovely romance spread a thousand miles into the horizon, Yu Ziyou, who was located in the distant capital city, eventually caught wind of his deeply moving and epic love affair. In a trance, Yu Ziyou, who had been completely brainwashed for seven years, believed in them. He guessed something special really did happen between them back in those years…

beautiful! I normally stray away from political danmei dramas since they tend to be heavier than BG. However, this was lighter and the comedy on it helped lessen the tense scenarios. I absolutely adore MC and ML.

Both have their own problems, doubts and all. Good thing that they managed to get over it with each other's help. ML is psychotic and clearly has a mental problem. One thing I like about this is how MC helped ML through his episodes, never judging. MC feels for ML, similarly ML feels for... more>> MC. Their past are tragic but luckily it's a happy ending.

There a quote here that I absolutely adore, and IIRC, it was the turning point of their relationship.

"Although I do go to you, why do you not come to me?" When this appeared, my mind played mitski's Why Didn't You Stop Me? It's so fitting.

Overall, better than I thought. Just beautiful. I adore their relationships and MC's occasional teasing. ML' bragging about his relationship with MC was so funny too! Would recommend, 5/5 did not disappoint. <<less

I cannot see where the high rating is coming from. Believe me, I tried. I read this novel in its entirety but was still unable to see it. The plot and story is all over the place, the relationship is weird and borderline creepy and not really in an engaging way either. My mind felt like it just wanted to close this book and never to open it up ever again at some points.

MC falls in love with ML in his youth, but his family falls from grace, and he was unable to act on those feelings. They are separated for many years, then then reunited on rocky terms. ML seemingly doesnt live with purpose other than to cause chaos around him. MC digs around and learns of ml's birth right and the reason for his madness. As it turns out, ML is the emperor's bastard son and his position threatens those who covet the title of crown prince. They band together to fight against the bad actors, and ML is roped into the fight for succession. The emperor favors ml, and everything points to ML succeeding the throne, but the story makes it clear again and again that he does not want to become emperor; ML and MC are only doing this to save their livelihoods. In the end, they do eventually reach a satisfactory solution that has everyone happy, safe, and brings justice to those that were wronged in the past.

from how the beginning was written, you wouldn't think that zhong wan had any special feelings towards yu she when they were kids. But he was in fact, smitten, the whole time, and those feelings never really went away. Zhong wan is such a romantic but also the world's most unreliable narrator. Everything about their relationship is so sweet and romantic: the farewell, the awkward reunion, and the confession. <<less

I am only up to chapter 22. I must say, my interest has increased. It was abit confusing in the first few chapters but as the story builds and we get to know more about the MC and ML and their sidekicks, I must say, it gets funny particularly the misunderstanding created by the MC and ML sidekicks. There is also a sense of mystery as to why the ML changed his personality from when he was young. Also, why MC is doing what he is doing now ie risking... more>> his life to 'save ML'. So this story is a bit of the palace mystery (waiting for the truth to unravel), the misunderstanding between ML and MC, and some supporting characters which seem just as endearing as the story unfolds. <<less

The characters would act as intentional/unintentional wingman... Steward Feng... You're truly unbeatable

Love this book. It's serious but also so funny, after every serious moment the MC/ML will say something so shocking you'll laugh.

The ML is a menace, Yu She the menace. The ML is actually crazy the things he says, lol. The MC has a way with words, he's so funny and the way he thinks is shocking but who can blame him with a partner like the ML, he is the only person that can handle the ML.

This is a wholesome novel with a very well built relationship between two people. I always got surprised by their relationship dynamic. The starting of the novel can be confusing but please stick with it and you will not regret it.

This novel made me laugh in almost every chapter. But I still almost stopped reading at about chapter 20, because I felt the romance between the protagonist and ML seemed too abrupt and out of nowhere. As I continued to read, I discovered the romance actually resulted from deep-rooted, heartbreaking and heartwarming past events. The anx in this story was mainly built up by the ML, who had the brains to plan thorough, intricate campaigns to screw his enemies, but was clueless in understanding the heart of the one he... more>> wanted to protect most. This novel is amazing. A must read. I love the relationship between the MC and ML and also the side character are so lovely. And the 'lost in translation' communication that was going round and round is hilarious. I love the eunuch.

I enjoyed reading this novel. It has comedic elements woven in through an otherwise political, semi-angsty story. I thought the main couple had personality. The schemes and overall plot weren't exactly unpredictable but they kept you engaged enough. As for the secondary characters, you dont really feel anything for them tbh.. They werent really developed enough to like/dislike. Translation was great!

If you like reading palace historical novels, then you must definitely give this novel a read! Excellent translation, MC is smart, witty and suffered a lot in his youth but treats his friends and family with utmost respect. Him and ML are so good together, and they discuss everything openly so there's no misunderstandings that deteriorate their relationship. Their interactions also give rise to funny moments and the novel is a HE.

An honestly good read. I loved the main characters too. The political intrigue was also interesting, and was not overly complicated that you’d feel that it was forced. The way humor, fluff, angst and a little court drama were all thrown in together in the chapters made reading more interesting as well, making one want to keep reading the next chapters to fond out what happens next or how a particular point in the story would unfold. Translation was great too.

Only one word.. PERFECT. Man, what a bittersweet and hilarious novel. One moment, I was laughing my arse off then the next moment, I would cry as I lament their complicated situation. Anyways, I really love it. The author really deserve recognition for their hardwork. Kudos also to the translators for the job well done. And mannnn, the couple's interactions are sooooo cute and funny xD. I love how shameless and at the same time easily embarassed ZW is. And I do agree with the other commenters, MC and ML... more>> both were written like how a real person is. The complexity of a person's personality is very well played out and made them more real. Aishh, tbh, I really want more extras T^T I want more of them huhuhu. <<less

This probably one of my favorites. Even though this is historical and drama, it's just right and not to heavy to bear, plus the comedy is also good as well! The plot wasn't complicated, well described and pacing was just right. Translation is superb as well. Overall, I really like it!

My favorite about this novel was actually the main CP, they're just both hilarious, scheming and smarty pants. It's just that MC just wanna get laid so bad that it's very funny every time they brought this up. ML on... more>> the other hand, I didn't get him at first but he trully liked MC. Other characters were also well described and wasn't treated like air. The only thing I think was lacking was the side CP's love story.

All in all, I was so happy to find this gem. So I definitely recommend this! <<less

I skipped reading in the middle and directly go to chapter 100 to read the end.

Why? Because just by reading one third of the story I've got the gist that there's not much mystery or even intrigue in this novel. You can guess what happen in the previous dynasty by the on going conversation.

And I think, I made correct decision. The story seemed haste, the characters didn't have much to offer in term of growth and development. The main couple relationship was okay but not as romantic or deep as I would like them to be.

When I read the synopsis, my first thought was there'll be anguish and drama, but no there's none of it. The plot was very straightforward.

I gave 4 Star to appreciate translators hard-work and dedication to diligently finish the job. Thank you ⊂ (´･◡･⊂) ∘˚˳° <<less

Really great. The CP is hilarious once they've gotten together. But even before that, their interactions with each other and people around them are both so outrageous. But in between the comedy lies the sucker punch of a heartache. You will laugh with them but you will also experience hurting for them. I can't recommend this enough. It's a must read with good quality translations!!!
