Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

“He only knows how to quarrel with his older brother every day. He is arrogant and willful!”

“He looks good, but unfortunately, he is an idiot.”

“Isn’t he a useless person? Just serve him well.”

“It is a pity about that child of the Chen family.”

There were the group of scoundrel friends who were full of thoughts, the rats eyeing him covetously and the old, cunning people who were secretly scheming.

Chen Qizhao put on a mask of arrogance again. ‘Do you like acting so much? Why don’t we act together?’

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

Good story, good portrayal, interesting perspective, but felt long (imo). This is the story that is really heavy on the plot and the romantic relationship between MC and ML is quite subtle.

What is a big shining point? Subjectively, because it's all personal opinion :) Not saying this just because it's different and no other story I've read about rebirth had it, there are some stories which also pick it up, but it feels quite real when we get MC who is confused how to feel about his rebirth, has a... more>> lot going on on his mind and is not beaming with confidence and smartness being very happy that now he can protect his beloved family. This is the part of his portrayal, but also indicates part of the character who he was against. A lot of work was done on his charecterization not only through the eyes of many people around him, but also his own feeling of self-loathing almost. What about his portrayal? And why Qizhao is like that. Many called Qizhao a fool in the story and looked down on him. From the point of view of smartness Qizhao actually is not, but he's not shrewd, his biggest flaw was youth and inability to read people, to guard against conspiracies. This is why he was plotted against so easily. When it comes to his family it could have been a normal family relationship, he could have grown up and realized that his father is not bad, he's just strict, yet also upright, he doesn't really know how to communicate with his children outsde of work, his mother is a kind lady and his brother actually cares about him, but growing up in such environment he also doesn't know how to express it well, but what happened to them did not allow him to walk through the process of normal growth, he did not have adaptation period when the tragedy hit their family, only later through hits and bumps he saw the world and people as they truly are.

And although he is reborn now, but he knows the dangers of such a big conspiracy that was plotted against their family, yet he can't do anything at the moment about it. He may know the future, but does it matter? Can he truly prevent everything just because he knows it? Maybe that's a great appeal of such a rebirth story, that not everything is a matter of convenience. That he doesn't walk around with confidence and defeats enemies left and right in a day or two. And this novel truly has a sense of time. He can only slowly hint and point, probe and investigate to direct his family to pay attention to potential dangers they were not aware of prior. It eventually showed that not everything was uncovered by him in his last life. But he lives under tremendous stress day by day, being afraid that something will happen to his family, because he already lost them once. For others what he talks about is a probability, but for him it was a reality. So the story has a sense of inner tension that Qizhao goes through. He also blames himself a whole lot, because he knows that everything started from that fateful project he was asked to invest. Because he wasn't shrewd enough to see that the one who is helping on the surface is actually the one who ruined their family. Now he can do something just because he knows these things. Though in reality you can't really guard against everyone, that's too paranoid.

What is also interesting is the family relationship, because of his rebirth the family did not convert into some sappy bunch of people who felt love all day long and express it, excluding the mother who is the main comforting link between all members you know these people care about each other, but it's a bit awkward anyway. Although Qizhao is quite overfilled with blame, but some of it is directed at his father and brother too. Not in a negative way. He regards both of them very highly (like he often mentions his brother especially that he should have been a proud son of heaven and that his vision was what helped him to make a comeback), but he also wants them to open their eyes too, he considered them so smart why they put their guard down so much, didn't see the true face of a so-called friend or people who work under them.

And you'd be surprised that his anchor point that allowed him to settle down isn't his family, don't get me wrong, he loves them, but he doesn't know how to connect with them now that he went through so much. But Shen Yuhuai is a different case. With Yuhuai they became friends when the Shen family were the only ones that helped him when he was in trouble or made a comeback and Yuhuai was there when he was at his breaking point. Through several years they had this friendship he depended on and now it is the same. But eventually this feeling evolved into love. I can't say I had the feeling of fateful lovers from them, more like the strong feeling of compatibility they had and were not aware of before. Although I admit comparing to the entire plotline their romantic development is subtle.

I wrote about Qizhao so much because as MC he really occupies a big chunk of this novel. As for the plot you have to see it for yourself, it's all business. Because it occupies the other big chunk of the novel and is a center piece it's not vague like many other novels where you can't even tell what industry MC or ML belong to :'D

As for its' length, to some it may be quite a dynamic novel with many ups and downs. To me it wasn't the case, I had a feeling of mulling at times. In real life things are not done in a day or two, so I applaude that the confrontation had a sense of time, but the feeling of mulling over things might have come from descriptions and repetition of some things. Again, it's all subjective, it's all my own feelings, maybe someone read it in one breathe because they were so excited about it :)

In general it's a good read, if you look for something like this. It's a journey, not only a plot journey, but also psychological journey of the main character with the ability to finally be free and shake off the burden that weighed down on Qizhao for the entire time. <<less

I love this!

I like how the author portrayed MC's mental illness, it was very realistic. The MC's very smart and scheming after experiencing all those horrible things before his rebirth takes a toll on him after his rebirth and is completely understandable. Alas! When he thought that he avenged his family before his rebirth and dying lonely in front of his family's grave is truly heartbreaking! I'm glad he was given another chance to finally trully avenged his family after uncovering the truth and finding the right culprit.

The ML, here... more>> is not your typical domineering president of a big company. He's scholary, a brainy young chemist. He's very gentle to the MC and always fought side by side with him. He never exposed MC's lies and tries his best to understand and be patient with him.

Overall a very nice read especially the extra chapters, the "what ifs". <<less

I really enjoyed this novel. The suspense of it had me at the edge of my seat hoping wishing and praying this child would be okay. I kept hoping he’d seriously take the time to talk to someone about the truth of everything but even until the very end he kept it to himself. I get that he probably decided to keep quiet after his dad and brother claimed he was lying, but I do wish he’d have expressed himself to ML more.

Not to mention I felt like his development... more>> was never expressed to us. Wish is fine, but I’d like to know if his paranoia and ptsd ever got better and whether or not he finally stopped randomly lying to ML.

outside of that, I really did enjoy this. It was so good and sad. I cried almost every time my bubbas was overwhelmed. I wish them a very happy rest of their life <<less

this is first and foremost a corporate espionage revenge story. Literally it is 99% of the story. Even the romance is sandwiched between more and more corporate interests and familial gains.

this is not to say it’s bad, in fact it’s very well written. The mystery comes in layers. The author does a good job of really fleshing out the motivations of MC due to his past life’s mistakes. In fact... she REALLY doesn’t let you forget it.

but it’s really quite slow and drags a fair bit. By chapter 70+ I... more>> was very ready for the corporate espionage part to be over. The romance doesn’t kick in until really late and the burn is SLOWWWWWW even though it’s quite cute and sweet when you get to it.

if you want a smart read with lots of twists and turns, go for it. But if you’re looking for a fun flirty romantic read, this is not it. <<less

Super good revenge novel. Loved how the author didn't just magically erase the MC's trauma from his previous life and showed us the aftermath of it. Like how his character changed and how he cares so much about his family and the ML that he's always in an anxious mood. I also love the MC's mom!! The way she notice the difference in the MC's personality and signs of the MC not being in a good mental state. Most of all, I love the ML because throughout the whole novel,... more>> he has been extremely patient and doting whether it's the past or present life. <<less

What a fun novel! I love the mystery and the hidden bosses that pop up. Many people might get frustrated by the lack of clear communication between the MC and ml, and I think it's definitely something that wouldn't work well in the real world. The author even shows how poorly it works in the Mc's family. In this romantic novel though, the MC and ML are supposed to have such great tacit understanding, that even when they don't say something, the other can figure it out. This setting does... more>> lead to some really nice s*xual chemistry between the two as they feel each other out.

I also think the different family dynamics are really interesting - especially the mc's. The "showing love through actions, but only saying tough words" is such a traditional Chinese way of expressing familial love, I completely empathized. Expressing emotions verbally isn't the way every culture works, and for some people, this is really hard to understand, especially when young. And honestly, it can cause a lot of misunderstandings on both sides. One side sees someone who never thinks they're good enough and the other side sees reckless rebellion that needs to be tempered. Everyone is too close to the misunderstandings to communicate without further misunderstanding. No one has a cool enough head to try and see the other person in a more generous light. It takes distance, ability to calm down and listen to each other, and willingness to revise the mental image of the other person to really get past the misunderstanding. It was so heartbreaking to watch the MC trying to do that with his family.

Finally, I like how they portray the mc's mental struggle. I think the mentality now a lot of the times is to try to fix everything with a pill. But hospital stays and pills can really only do so much. Sometimes, people need to find ways to move past what is causing the mental issue - either by completely removing the cause as the MC does, or finding support from others (partners, family, friends). Sometimes, finding other things to live for and believe in helps. Or shifting mindset or understanding of the situation. But usually, passively taking a pill and going to therapy isn't really going to magically solve the problem. And sometimes, there's no real "fix", but finding a way to live with what's happened and not let it prevent living in the present. <<less

I think this is one of the few novels that deals with the trauma of losing someone realistically.
Yeah, the MC is reborn but he still lived his previous life, experience and knowledge exist and is brought over and I feel that nothing is glossed over.

I really love the novel, the pace and characters were great.

I only wish the siblings of the main couple got to marry too. But oh well...

It’s bit too slow but it’s a nice pace.

I love how the romance is not that much but when the teasing comes, it’s like so goddamn hot and makes me giggle.

The extras are nice to give bit closure of “what if” situation.

There are some reasons why I can’t give it full star

Spoiler
  • some repetitions of how elder brother is better than the younger brother is too much. I got it, one is “good” one is “not”
  • I love that they try to address the MC’s issue to therapy, but I’m sad that they just can’t believe about the dream. Although later MC’s brother seemed to somehow “accept” but not much was mentioned
  • The childhood part of MC and ML keeps being mentioned and here I thought that the reason why MC can go back is somehow related to ML, but alas nothing was mentioned
  • the Yan brothers give me in*est vibe lol, not complaining for that, what I’m tired is how the younger keeps whining and the older is too restrictive.
  • i wish that MC will tell ML about what happened. I’m sure ML will understand
[collapse]

All in all, I enjoy this and SYH may not be the best ML, but he’s surely one of the greenest one. Hehe

Satisfying second chance story. Although most of the plot is predictable, there are revelations that MC, Chen Qizhao, uncovers which adds suspense. Also, flavor is added when a close relationship in the last life develops into a romantic one. A happy ending for everyone except the villains.

I didn't read all of the extras since some of them were "what if" alternate worlds. Nah, not interested. I'm happy with the current ending so pretended they don't exist.

Spoiler

The ML's name is Shen Yuhai. Their romance is slow in this life but it's better than the last life where they didn't even realize their feelings for each other... although the actions of interest and care were there.

SPOILERS...

...

MC has many regrets from his last life. He slowly finds out that the deaths of his family and ML were disguised mu*ders.

His father was poisoned by aromatherapy and his meds swapped. His brother's car accident was caused by the family driver and his later su*cide was possibly mu*der. ML's death in a lab accident was likely caused by tampered lab equipment.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC finds out that his revenge in his last life was one step short. He took down Lin Shizhong but there were others behind LZ. They were Gu Shen and his father, Gu Zhengsong. These people had used MC's family's business to trade in illegal drugs. To eliminate discovery, they wanted to wipe out MC's family and their business. This was also a new discovery that answered some of MC's questions from his last life.

I really enjoyed this one, it’s written (and also excellently translated) in a way that makes you want the keep reading the next chapter, you’ll keep telling yourself “just one more”.

This story is a 4.5 for me but I rounded it up.

So let's start with the story. Compared to Dear Mr Lu another beautiful revenge story that made my heart ache, this one is much more sweeter.

It is incomparable with the revenge of Dear Mr Lu (I mean the plot is different so), but the romance is amazing.

... more>> I don't know if I got it wrong but some people said that the romance was kind of bland. That's for others because to me the romance in this is healing.

To be honest, having someone be more patient with you even more than your own family is pretty hard to find.

The MC lost everything in his last life. He got a chance to start again with all the pain, trauma, depression and anxiety. He is trying his best.

He lies to the ML, yes, but that's because he doesn't know how to explain what happened, why it happened or how it happened. Even if the one you love has seen all your good and bad if it comes to starting again, would you be willing to show them your bad side?

The story is beautiful. Yes a bit draggy in some areas but otherwise beautiful.

For me having such an ML in any other story would have felt boring but not this one. The ML's calm personality was something our hotheaded MC needed. Not some enemy to romance thing or whatever but just a calm and safe haven.

I strongly recommend this. If it's not your jam though that's cool. Everyone has their vibe.

The translator did their best. There are some mistakes here and there with the names and pronouns but nothing a quick editing wouldn't fix. So a small star for that. <<less

First of all, awful translation; it's obvious it's machine translated without much editing afterwards. There are worse out there, but this one is pretty bad too. The wrong pronouns are used in the entire story: no, it wasn't only mistaking "he" with "she", there were instances of mistaking "he" with "you" and "you" with "I", so it changes the whole meaning of a dialogue. How do I know? Well, the dialogue wouldn't make sense with the pronouns used in the translation, so you gotta think and guess the real meaning.... more>> BTW, my rating has nothing to do with the translation, because to me a translation is completely separate from the content of the novel. I'm just giving a heads up here.

I read the entirety of the main story and one of the extras. I didn't read the other extras because I got bored.

This story has a very interesting revenge story and I really like that it shows that MC is actually still traumatized and his mental health has been affected, even when he's changing his family's and friend's destinies, he still suffers from anxiety, depression and hypervigilance. That said... I really don't like how he keeps lying to ML.

Spoiler

At first it was kinda cute and endearing how he would pretend to be well behaved with ML because he thought ML liked well behaved people and he had a crush on ML that even he wasn't aware of. That said, it gets old pretty soon, because in MC's past life, ML saw MC at his worst and ML was still MC's friend and would always accommodate MC, even when MC wasn't pretending at all. You could tell that in their past life, ML still liked MC even after seeing MC's darkest side and even died trying to help MC. But even after they get together and even after ML had caught him a few times doing things that "well behaved" people don't do, he's still pretending. And he keeps lying to ML and trying to make excuses about where he is and who he's with, even after he promised ML he wouldn't lie to ML anymore and even after ML told MC that MC didn't have to lie to him. It's all so annoying it made me roll my eyes so hard. MC wasn't being cute, he was being fake. I couldn't get over that, so I just got annoyed at the couple's interactions; but if it wasn't for that, they would've been such a great couple. That's why I didn't bother to read the extras, I didn't crave more of their interactions tbh.

[collapse]

Then, the ending was a bit boring.

Spoiler

It took too long to finally get rid of the final boss. Another reviewer said that there's a reason why the ending is a bit slow, because it was necessary to show how the MC healed, but I'm not talking about that. It's fine for the MC to heal slowly because yeah, you can't get rid of trauma overnight just because you got your revenge, but what actually made it boring for me is that it took them too long to get rid of the last boss. They had everything prepared to catch him and his last plan shouldn't have been able to be executed, but the author wanted more unnecessary suspense and made seem like the last boss almost succeeded. That last suspense was seriously not necessary. By that point, revenge was already taken and it was just fatigue inducing to add another episode of suspense when the dust should've settled already.

[collapse]

Anyway, decent revenge story with great family members and a pretty forward look on mental health for a Chinese novel. But... it's just that, so 3 stars. <<less

I really love this novel. Sigh..

I love how the MC has the golden finger of knowing what's gonna happen but at the same time not too OP and not too dependent on ML for solving his past/present. Unlike other novels where MC is feeling too superior but in fact just relies on ML. For MC in this novel, the struggle is real, the trauma and depression brought up from the previous life is real.

Its just a complete package. The love story side is slow burn and sweet without being too... more>> sappy. Its actually pretty much straight forward. 😊❤️❤️❤️ Im really glad that I had decided to read this novel, because I tend to skip on novels that have slow romance tags. Or based on the comments shows little amount/part for the love story. 😊😊❤️❤️❤️ <<less

The novel is good.

Bussiness novel with rebirth theme.

MC is smart and scheming, which isn't without a price. He has lot of character development compared to his past self. Calm, cold, and clear minded.

But his past experience really had given him lot of psychological impact. Which in this novel has shown. (Compared to lot of rebirth novel if I say)

Spoiler

How much his parents and brother's (also ml) death effect him. How he had to take the family business in to his shoulder despite him being naive and young. Later he die (my guess) after he save the family business and taken revenge.

[collapse]

I also like how the novel shows his his rebirth doesn't correct everything. He already has mental illness, addictions, and awkward family relationships. He had to step by step overcome all.

Spoiler

I really like how he interact with his family. Past life he had awkward, rebellion teenager mind who always would fight with family. Even after rebirth it doesn't change, but he try his best to be not. If he feel he is going to get irritating he will be quite, quietly sit with his family like he wasn't even there try to accompany them. Be with his family even for bit.

[collapse]

Another thing I like is how indirectly the novel mentioned mc's self harm. It never mentioned by word, or clear image but hint by hint. I'm really impressed at how both ML and mother known mc's self harming but being quiet and try to show support as much as they can not to alram MC. And how MC know that they know about it, but also being silent at that.

Spoiler

While MC being hospitalise for his mental health, we have a mother who remove all sharp objects out of the room. But we doesn't even know until MC asking where his hair cutting scissors is. That's when we feel something is fishy.

Then one time while mom wasn't in the room MC looking at mom's pencil box where we got to know there is a pencil cutter blade. Next mom come to the room then there's her paused as she saw in the paper cutter neatly placed in the box and pencil scraps in tr*sh can. That's when we really know mother know but she silence about that.

Another time MC spending lot of time in bathroom, even after shower where he take another shower and when MC go out with towel there's ML in the room, looking at mc's body where I suspect he probably notice mc's scares of his self harming. But not ML or MC mentioned about that.

And when MC finally arrived home he see his room where again there's no sharp object and MC thinking "she did not need to go to this level, because he would not go to that extreme" then we know MC know that his mom know about his self harming.

[collapse]

With family, I'm much drown in to them. For me family relationships interests me more than mc's love relationship.

Spoiler

We have a cheerful mother and also a brother and a father who awkward but really caring about their family. It's really funny how MC and his brother's little fights are done. But they almost all have a 'serious' personality type. MC is serious about saving his family, the brother/father duo are always serious about work, and ML is also serious person. The only character with a more silly personality is the MC's best friend.

[collapse]

ML is gentle and clever, a scholarly type, while MC is inwardly irritable, paranoid, but acts dumb and mischievous on the outside for the majority of the story, hiding his mental issues from others. ML is serious but quite person. Can understand MC and doting to him even though his cold personality.

Relationship is little awkward, bland and out of place for me at the start. But it doesn't stop the story reading. In fact you can tell the Relationship is unique and interesting. With MC being mentally unstable and we have ML who being a quiet big tree to help him. He is quite, but vigilant. One can tell, a perfect boyfriend material for MC. And ML is for MC a very important person he lost one time and cherish him and wanted to get close to him even being the obedient little liar. Very well shown how much MC needs ML and ML also cherish MC more than he even know. It's really good healthy relationship with both have understanding and care of each other. But it's little boring.

So Novel is great. We have MC who learn form his past mistakes, have very much impact on his past and being mentally unstable at the death of his loved ones. Revenge and mc's unstoppable protection toward his family very well done. Other characters is also good.

Really nice revenge story with a little romance at the side!

There is no over-the-top face slapping but the revenge is still sweet and satisfying. This novel has one of the more elaborate revenge plot but still managed to remain cohesive throughout. The MC not only deals with the enemies he knew before his rebirth but also some that he didn't discover in the past. It is interesting to see the MC piece everything together.

I like the dynamic between the MC and his family. More often than not MCs in rebirth... more>> stories suddenly became so well behaved which is a bit unrealistic. However, the MC here is still awkward in showing his care towards his family and they only got closer after a while.

The MC is described as a madman in the title but he doesn't behave wildly and in your face. He's calm, cold and calculating. He has moments where he lost his temper but he reins it in quite quickly. He manipulates behind the scenes because he knew his actions look unreasonable without an explanation of his rebirth. The whole way through I was wondering if the antagonists will ever figure out the mastermind behind the scenes is MC but nope. I guess the MC played the playboy persona too well and the antagonists underestimated him due to his notoriety.

I think calling the ML average is a bit of an overstatement because he is from a wealthy family who later worked together with the MC's family to bring down the antagonists. The ML also managed to uncover some schemes and collected evidence that are useful for the MC. The MC tries to act like an obedient kid because he heard the ML like theis type. However, the ML was very observant and was able to tell when the MC lied. Still, the ML didn't call him out because he knew the MC have secrets and is willing to go along with him. Truly a man with high EQ. I didn't expect much from the romance but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. The romance is prevalent throughout the story but 90% of it was the getting-to-know-you to courting phase. Personally, I think it is reasonable because, before rebirth, the MC has never named what he felt towards the ML. So after rebirth, the MC still have to discover his feelings. Their spark comes in lingering touches and heated stares. If MC's family is his reverse scale, ML is his softness.

The romance might not be everyone's cup of tea because it is not passionate nor dreamy. Admittedly, despite how much I liked their courting phase their dynamic after they got together was lackluster. Nothing seemed to have changed aside from being more unbridled.

The side characters are ok but I personally really didn't like one of MC's friend, Yan Kailin. He just comes off as super irritating?? His character is the kind that plays around but is deathly afraid of his brother, hates being controlled but doesn't dare to argue back, like fooling around but doesn't know the danger.

Another thing to note is how high-strung the MC is about his family's death but seemed to be too chill about the ML's death..? Even if the ML's death is due to a lab explosion it didn't seem like the MC checked the authenticity of this incident despite how paranoid he usually is.

From what I've read, the events span over two years but it doesn't feel that way so it threw me off a bit when the author mentioned that. Regardless, it's an excellent revenge novel and the overall tone is not too heavy. Translations are great as well! <<less

I usually don't rate before I finish a story, but this is already one of my favorite stories and I'm finding it too good to try to use MTL to finish, because I worry too much about missing subtle aspects of the plot without the best translation possible. Engaging me enough in the story to be patient for the latest releases instead of taking the instant gratification of the mtl version makes this a 5 star for me.
