Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

“He only knows how to quarrel with his older brother every day. He is arrogant and willful!”

“He looks good, but unfortunately, he is an idiot.”

“Isn’t he a useless person? Just serve him well.”

“It is a pity about that child of the Chen family.”

There were the group of scoundrel friends who were full of thoughts, the rats eyeing him covetously and the old, cunning people who were secretly scheming.

Chen Qizhao put on a mask of arrogance again. ‘Do you like acting so much? Why don’t we act together?’

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

The story feels like "lots of running around, data, data, data, beein anxious and no real sweetness.".

After reading and fighting to the end, I feel absolutely tiered out. MC is always running around to solve the future problems.

Later when the biggest event happened, MC had a breakdown and the writer inserted lots of anxiety and depression problems. This kind of annoyed me because in my opinion it is really unneeded.

... more>> The writer always tried to put up more and more tension but had never a real tension relief.

The family dynamics was a big part of this novel and started out interesting but until the end it never became really "solved". I feel that the problems never were really addressed.

The same for MC and ML. Basically they were only showing their best sides to each other and they never had a deep conversation about anything.

Well.... at least the writing itself and the translation were good. But I most likely will never touch this story again. <<less

Simply beautiful, such a beautifully written and moving novel.

I think it is one of the few danmei novels that take depression and anxiety seriously, by seriously I mean that they are not cured with the power of love but with therapy, time and company.

Besides that, I love how the mc's path is written, how he started and how he ended up being, his evolution and process as a person.

I think this novel highlights a lot the problem of communication and how things can change with it, this is something that... more>> unites your family and it is something gradual, it is not that out of nowhere all your problems are resolved.

And it is so real in some parts that it moves me, I cried for everything he had to go through and I cried at the end when I empathized with him and was happy for him, really, he deserves all the best.

Going on the romance side, it has nothing to envy of the best danmei novels. Even though it is not purely a romantic novel, their dynamic as a couple is very beautifully written. They complement each other even though they are both "quiet." Neither of them resembles some of the danmei character stereotypes, each has their own distinct personality and together they make a beautiful couple.

I could say a lot of things about this novel, but if you are reading this I hope you read this novel and form your own opinion because it is really worth it. <<less

This was so good. I felt so bad for the MC, he went through so much and even after his rebirth, the emotional burden was so heavy and he had to carry it alone because it's not like he can just tell anyone about it. It's a good thing that his family and friends could help him.

I also love how their relationship developed. It felt very natural. The ML is more mature than the MC but he doesn't interfere and just lets the MC do his thing while he supports... more>> on the side. His gentleness and accomodation helped a lot in easing the MC's psychologist burden and gradually heal.

The family dynamics were very interesting and it was nice to see them getting through the storms together despite their conflicts, and eventually learning to patch up their relationship. <<less

i am more lenient in giving 5 stars to novels. I based it on the tags and chracter development of characters. This novel is kinda heavy considering our MC had a tragic 1st life. There's some light undertones when he's pretending to be a dandy rich 2nd generation but people will eventually realize that he is more than that. His protectiveness for his family and for shen huhu. This is more fleshed out than other novels about rebirth. There is a BIG impact of rebirth to MC, take note that... more>> there's the major tag of Psychological. And wow for the twist and turns of the villains. The main problem goes way way abck and its our MC who slowly unfolds it. Connecting what he experienced on his 1st life

i mtled it like 100+ chap, HE of course but there's extra chaps for diff ending. Anyways our MC deserves a happy ending for the tragedies that he suffered. Well thats what's nice for rebirth/2nd life but in reality we only have 1 life. <<less

Really good. The suspense and conspiracies in the start really hit me hard and each time, the plot was building up to a greater hand behind. I really loved how the author balanced the scheme plot and the romance plot, and I also loved the sweetness between the MC and ML at the end and how the ML really takes care of the MC as he is struggling. I did feel that it would be better if the MC had told the ML about his rebirth, so that he could... more>> actually have someone who believes him to share it with, and they could have helped each other. However, most importantly, the fact that the author really took the issue of the MC's illness seriously and gave him time to actually get out of it and rest was really different from several other rebirth stories. Just loved this novel. <<less

done. This story is good, it's really my taste hahaa.. The plot revolves around MC who wants to fix his past, and I really like the MC character here really! He's tough because of his youth experience, he handles things alone quietly huh even though it's known to everyone in the end. But I really like that! This story is good, the plot is perfect, and I really like MC here, sometimes I wanna cry seeing when MC remembers his previous life

I did not expect to like this story so much. It's actually a little slice-of-life, the emotional line is very subtle and realistic. One of my favourite novels for sure!

I find this novel very full of substance (business/plot-development is so meaty!) while not lacking the presence of the ML as well. Although the romance is a back-burner, it's subtle and has a very cute 'crushing' feeling to it.

I honestly really like how I kept expecting things to 'wrap up' in a dramatic way, like in other novels, 'oh I'll be... more>> everything to you don't worry about it!' / 'oh don't worry, I'll take care of you for life!' or some unrealistic explanation to resolve situations -- but actually, it doesn't do that. This novel is amazing, and it feels good. I don't feel queasy reading the family atmosphere even though they're not 'close' as other novels, I actually find it refreshing that it felt.. Realistic. It felt nice. Unrealistic fantasy of a 'perfect' family or even just -- a family that doesn't cling to one another and love each other completely, although there's care -- it's hard to show. I find this so gratifying to read, and I felt good. I like this novel a lot.

It's underrated and subtle, but I think this novel creeps up on you like spring rain. It's a very nice novel. <<less

Honestly this novel is kind of a breath of fresh air among many regression revenge story. I love how the author didn't gloss over the details nor the ruthlessness, but also portray a great picture of someone with trauma. It's both very subtle but also really deep.

I love how Qizhao didn't immediately become 'a different person and the people around him loved him because of his change' like other mainstream regression stories, but he actually used his smarts to stay lowkey and acted as usual while controlling everything within his... more>> grasp.

I love how the author subtly portrayed the contradiction of his mental age in details like he wasn't interested in game etc anymore, how the drinking games of his friends were easy compared to business banquets, how he called his elders by name, etc, but he also still liked dressing up youthfully, liked going to school and play with his friends, and still subconsciously being the baby of the family. It wasn't portrayed in a jarring way like 'everyone are babies, only I am an adult and I have to take care of them all' or 'we can't fall in love I'm way older than you!' like many other regression stories. It showed that while Qizhao was mentally in his 30s, his inner time had been frozen at the time his family perished, and he had always been trapped as that traumatized child who hadn't had the chance to grow into a proper adult.

Although his adult self was vastly different than his teenage self, he was still Chen Qizhao, so much so that his family and friends actually didn't notice any major abnormalities until they witnessed his emotional outbursts. They just wondered 'when did he start to act like this?', instead of 'this is so unlike him'. I love these details.

In either timeline, past, present, or the both alternate timelines in the extras, Chen Qizhao had always been the talented, sharp, decisive and ruthless genius, with an inner heart of a well-behaved, kind and lonely child, wanting to be close to his loved ones and be praised for being good. He was just too traumatized and was forced to be a desperado in his previous life. Even then, I love the consistency of his core character. I also love that he actually used the chance of his regression to take a different major and given the chance to do things he hadn't had the chance to in his previous life!

And most importantly, I love how his trauma and mental problems were portrayed. It was very realistic how he behaved, how he dealt with everything, setting up mental defenses, how his health deteriorated over time, etc, to how he struggle to get better. I love how realistic his journey to mental recovery was. It wasn't smooth, it wasn't linear, it wasn't gone just because the source problem was gone, and it took so much energy and determination both from himself and his loved ones. He knew he was sick and he cooperated well with treatment, but at the same time he built up his emotional wall even thicker that it only worried his family further the more he became obedient. He would still relapse, and he found it difficult to shake off his bad habits. Yet he still tried his best to protect and not worry his loved ones. I love how real those were.

Also, I love how his illness and trauma didn't get magically cured just because he fell in love, even years into the relationship later. Because YEAH REAL LIFE WAS LIKE THAT! LOVE ISN'T A MAGIC CURE! 😭 Love won't fix anything, but it COULD be the warmth that accompany you in your journey to get better. I LOVE THAT! 🤧💕 And I also appreciate how awkward his family dynamics was, esp his big bro and dad, and how they didn't actually change themselves, but they just learned to listen to each other! That was beautiful! They were still the same three awkward men at the end of the story, but they all tried their best to show they cared! 🤧 And of course I also loved the romance! I love how easy they were with each other, how in whichever timeline, they just 'slot together' without much fuss and dramas! No exaggerated or hot-blooded romance just because Qizhao went back to be a teenager, but it was a decisive, calm, and mature love story. It felt both easy and passionate. Both lightly cute and full of s*xual tension hahah! 'I love you, you love me, let's date!' just like that!

Kudos author for writing this amazing novel! For a revenge regression novel I'll give this 4.5/5, but I'll put it as 5 just because I think it's such a breath of fresh air among regression revenge stories! 😄 <<less

The mc's growth wasnt abrupt and very logical considering how much he went through his past life. His relationship with his family and friends was so awkward but they found the middle ground to compromise with each other healthily. He also didnt miraculously get better in his second life, and the author made the characters feel alive and so realistic that you can feel their distress at their most helpless times.

I usually hated it when a novel is about to end but for this one, I just wanted it to end but it kept on going without much progress after so many chapters. I almost dropped it after the MC was diagnosed with depression because it felt like the author used such a sensitive topic as a plot device to develop the relationship of the MC and ML (testament to their lack of tack). After they got together (simply because the MC practically offered himself), he got better.... more>> All along, he was just sexually deprived.

What I also hated the most was the MC habit to lie for every little thing. It was uncalled for given his past experience but for him, it's fine if he lies but not when people lie to him (such double standards). <<less

Similar to good child. The MC gets a second chance at life. He's a rich second generation. Used to be a rebellious dandy. The MC is smart and wins the game of schemes against the invisible enemy who controlled things in the background.

The ML is a researcher and a student. He's a hot guy with glasses. Very smart.

Psychology plays a role. The MC has some problems but who wouldn't after everything he went through.

... more>> The schemes and revenge is dragged out until the main storyline ends at chapter 112.

Haven't read the extras yet. <<less

This is a revenge-driven and family-oriented novel. There is not much BL until the latter half.

It has a very clear and logical progression of events. The past and present life was wonderfully intertwined with the present knowledge and discovered secrets. The schemes and conspiracies were well-written.

Spoiler

I love how the MC has psychological problems. It is very reasonable after what he went through.

I felt really really bad for the MC’s past life like he really had no one with him like ML was there to help but he disappeared too and MC didnt even realize his feelings for him before he left and he just supressed his feelings after he left...

When he rebirthed too, I felt bad for him. Although he did have a new life and changed his past but he was still so trapped that I just cried for him. I loved his outburst when confronting his family. I know they wouldnt believe it but atleast he got to say it?? Anyways. Fortunately his family is with him now, fortunately his love can accompany him in this life.

Ugh the extras about the parallel universe where ML didnt die was so bittersweet. When MC asked “It would look ugly if you put a wedding ring on it.” (something along these lines cuz his left hand had a big scar) really just broke me. He was so insecure and I’m glad ML was there for him.

Very meticulous and detailed plot, with an amazing MC with 3d side characters and their complex interrelationships.

Spoiler
  • MC seems a very realistic person.
  • It seemed very realistic how he suppressed himself and didn't leaked out emotions, keeping things all to himself and became all quiet and plotted things in secret.
  • After going back to 18, he didn't immediately rushed out crying and making a scene after meeting his parents and elder brother and go OOC acting all sticky and talkative with his family like usually happens in rest of rebirth novels.
  • It was very meticulously shown how distant he was with his family as they didn't spent quality family time together for bonding. So he quietly sometimes accompanied his mom to watch TV or eat meals with them, His rebirth didn't make him go OOC like I have seen in rest of the novels. Though he did cared for them.
  • MC as a person was a meticulous guy who properly plotted things and gradually came to know about the hidden knives pointing at his family. He wasn't all knowing OP God.

Spoiler

Considering the romance part, it was slow burn, and satisfying. It was how ML and MC got along from hi hello acquaintances to friends to lovers. And their chemistry and interactions always carried a subtle spark and serial tension with a sense of comfort and romanticism as many a times they silently accompanied eachother.

  • ML wasn't cold aloof guy, nor he was overbearing with a sense of superiority and seeing MC as little cute rabbit or a kitten as someone mentioned above. (Such description of MC in bg or bl are my pet peeves)
  • Both of them gave space to eachother and never interfered or spied into eachother's matters.

Good story, good portrayal, interesting perspective, but felt long (imo). This is the story that is really heavy on the plot and the romantic relationship between MC and ML is quite subtle.

What is a big shining point? Subjectively, because it's all personal opinion :) Not saying this just because it's different and no other story I've read about rebirth had it, there are some stories which also pick it up, but it feels quite real when we get MC who is confused how to feel about his rebirth, has a... more>> lot going on on his mind and is not beaming with confidence and smartness being very happy that now he can protect his beloved family. This is the part of his portrayal, but also indicates part of the character who he was against. A lot of work was done on his charecterization not only through the eyes of many people around him, but also his own feeling of self-loathing almost. What about his portrayal? And why Qizhao is like that. Many called Qizhao a fool in the story and looked down on him. From the point of view of smartness Qizhao actually is not, but he's not shrewd, his biggest flaw was youth and inability to read people, to guard against conspiracies. This is why he was plotted against so easily. When it comes to his family it could have been a normal family relationship, he could have grown up and realized that his father is not bad, he's just strict, yet also upright, he doesn't really know how to communicate with his children outsde of work, his mother is a kind lady and his brother actually cares about him, but growing up in such environment he also doesn't know how to express it well, but what happened to them did not allow him to walk through the process of normal growth, he did not have adaptation period when the tragedy hit their family, only later through hits and bumps he saw the world and people as they truly are.

And although he is reborn now, but he knows the dangers of such a big conspiracy that was plotted against their family, yet he can't do anything at the moment about it. He may know the future, but does it matter? Can he truly prevent everything just because he knows it? Maybe that's a great appeal of such a rebirth story, that not everything is a matter of convenience. That he doesn't walk around with confidence and defeats enemies left and right in a day or two. And this novel truly has a sense of time. He can only slowly hint and point, probe and investigate to direct his family to pay attention to potential dangers they were not aware of prior. It eventually showed that not everything was uncovered by him in his last life. But he lives under tremendous stress day by day, being afraid that something will happen to his family, because he already lost them once. For others what he talks about is a probability, but for him it was a reality. So the story has a sense of inner tension that Qizhao goes through. He also blames himself a whole lot, because he knows that everything started from that fateful project he was asked to invest. Because he wasn't shrewd enough to see that the one who is helping on the surface is actually the one who ruined their family. Now he can do something just because he knows these things. Though in reality you can't really guard against everyone, that's too paranoid.

What is also interesting is the family relationship, because of his rebirth the family did not convert into some sappy bunch of people who felt love all day long and express it, excluding the mother who is the main comforting link between all members you know these people care about each other, but it's a bit awkward anyway. Although Qizhao is quite overfilled with blame, but some of it is directed at his father and brother too. Not in a negative way. He regards both of them very highly (like he often mentions his brother especially that he should have been a proud son of heaven and that his vision was what helped him to make a comeback), but he also wants them to open their eyes too, he considered them so smart why they put their guard down so much, didn't see the true face of a so-called friend or people who work under them.

And you'd be surprised that his anchor point that allowed him to settle down isn't his family, don't get me wrong, he loves them, but he doesn't know how to connect with them now that he went through so much. But Shen Yuhuai is a different case. With Yuhuai they became friends when the Shen family were the only ones that helped him when he was in trouble or made a comeback and Yuhuai was there when he was at his breaking point. Through several years they had this friendship he depended on and now it is the same. But eventually this feeling evolved into love. I can't say I had the feeling of fateful lovers from them, more like the strong feeling of compatibility they had and were not aware of before. Although I admit comparing to the entire plotline their romantic development is subtle.

I wrote about Qizhao so much because as MC he really occupies a big chunk of this novel. As for the plot you have to see it for yourself, it's all business. Because it occupies the other big chunk of the novel and is a center piece it's not vague like many other novels where you can't even tell what industry MC or ML belong to :'D

As for its' length, to some it may be quite a dynamic novel with many ups and downs. To me it wasn't the case, I had a feeling of mulling at times. In real life things are not done in a day or two, so I applaude that the confrontation had a sense of time, but the feeling of mulling over things might have come from descriptions and repetition of some things. Again, it's all subjective, it's all my own feelings, maybe someone read it in one breathe because they were so excited about it :)

In general it's a good read, if you look for something like this. It's a journey, not only a plot journey, but also psychological journey of the main character with the ability to finally be free and shake off the burden that weighed down on Qizhao for the entire time. <<less

I love this!

I like how the author portrayed MC's mental illness, it was very realistic. The MC's very smart and scheming after experiencing all those horrible things before his rebirth takes a toll on him after his rebirth and is completely understandable. Alas! When he thought that he avenged his family before his rebirth and dying lonely in front of his family's grave is truly heartbreaking! I'm glad he was given another chance to finally trully avenged his family after uncovering the truth and finding the right culprit.

The ML, here... more>> is not your typical domineering president of a big company. He's scholary, a brainy young chemist. He's very gentle to the MC and always fought side by side with him. He never exposed MC's lies and tries his best to understand and be patient with him.

Overall a very nice read especially the extra chapters, the "what ifs". <<less

It is a very serious story which focuses more on the MC slowly taking apart his enemies who caused the downfall of his family during his rebirth. There is a lack of heartwarming scenes between his family members since he’s stoic and so are his family. The ML is also a serious guy.

The romance is subtle throughout and its like a soft vibe kinda romance. Nothing so overt.

Kinda boring tbh.

I really enjoyed this novel. The suspense of it had me at the edge of my seat hoping wishing and praying this child would be okay. I kept hoping he’d seriously take the time to talk to someone about the truth of everything but even until the very end he kept it to himself. I get that he probably decided to keep quiet after his dad and brother claimed he was lying, but I do wish he’d have expressed himself to ML more.

Not to mention I felt like his development... more>> was never expressed to us. Wish is fine, but I’d like to know if his paranoia and ptsd ever got better and whether or not he finally stopped randomly lying to ML.

outside of that, I really did enjoy this. It was so good and sad. I cried almost every time my bubbas was overwhelmed. I wish them a very happy rest of their life <<less

Frankly, this novel was better than I expected, it was a more nuanced version of the trope. Starting with-:

  • MC-: he had already obtained his revenge in his last life
    Spoiler

or so he thought *wink wink*

    [collapse]
So the plot focuses not only on the revenge aspect but also on his psychological problems for the ordeal he went through. He is a traumatized baby lol. He also doesn't think highly of himself and feels useless which kind of shows how much he put his dad and brother on a pedestal even if he fought with them almost daily in his previos life.
  • His family-: MC, in his teenage years was a problem child so when he turned into his 'calm, sensible' personality I fully expected his family to maybe be a bit surprised but ultimately happy and relieved. But this is where the story shines, his family (especially his mom) noticed that it's not a good thing to 'mature' overnight and took him to the psychologist. After learning his issues his family all tried to change bit-by-bit to better make the MC feel loved and cared for. If we are talking individually-:
  • His brother-: He is a classic tsundere. He deeply cares for his family and knows his responsibilities but doesn't like to outright show them and can come as a harsh and not understanding older brother. The MC and his brother mostly bicker but it changed around ch77 in which MC directly tells his brother his thoughts.
  • His parents-: Mama is very loving and supporting person who throughout the entire story is a sweetheart. His father is a typical strict dad but he also sees the negative impact it made on his children and tries to change them.
  • ML-: He is gentle but stern. He isn't in finance but is a chemist (?). He is the most understanding person and treats the MC as such. I also loved how he realised that the MC was lying but didn't expose him in several occasions. I really liked their romance- no miscommunication, they handled their feeling nicely. I really liked his sister too.
But of course this has some points it is weak in like-:

  • Villains-: it didn't make sense to me how easily they were defeated (It took the whole story but still for a 10 year long plan it was surprising easily to deconstruct) also the suprise villains weren't really ever a threat. But there was enough foreshadowing before any twists happened so ig that's something. Also this story mainly deals with the mc's trauma so they aren't really the focal point of the story.
  • The translation-: Mostly it's great, but sometimes there are some mistakes in characters name so it's a bit hard to understand.
  • They never explain the time-travel-: Like I get it is common in these types of stories but seriously are we just going to ignore that something almost scientifically impossible happened!! Also the MC is set as this pessimistic, untrusting dude but never questioned this?! I always get a bit scared when the time travel is not explained as there is a chance that this is all a hallucination of the MC he made to cope with the loss.
Still, this story was great and a bit emotional at times making for a great casual read. Also (emphasizing it again) this is more like a healing story than a revenge story so that can be a reason why some places are not fleshed out. As a healing story it is first class and does magnificent!

this is first and foremost a corporate espionage revenge story. Literally it is 99% of the story. Even the romance is sandwiched between more and more corporate interests and familial gains.

this is not to say it’s bad, in fact it’s very well written. The mystery comes in layers. The author does a good job of really fleshing out the motivations of MC due to his past life’s mistakes. In fact... she REALLY doesn’t let you forget it.

but it’s really quite slow and drags a fair bit. By chapter 70+ I... more>> was very ready for the corporate espionage part to be over. The romance doesn’t kick in until really late and the burn is SLOWWWWWW even though it’s quite cute and sweet when you get to it.

if you want a smart read with lots of twists and turns, go for it. But if you’re looking for a fun flirty romantic read, this is not it. <<less
