tbh there is angst actually. But afaik its only on the first timeline
The MC has basically no libido and has definite plot armor, which can be a bit annoying... the women make up for his failings though, and the plot armor is only really bad occasionally. He is mainly just OP in his ability to convince people, which is pretty unique. It's also refreshing to have an MC that's as pragmatic as he is, very few others I've read so far even come close. Overall it's a really entertaining story about a manipulative as*hole that constantly rolls crits for charisma checks, and I highly recommend it. Edit 877:
I definitely understated just how annoying the MC is with his harem... it's not resolved even by the end ffs. The ending itself is alright, not my favorite but not bad either (aside from the neglected harem). I still recommend it, but but down to a 4 from a 5 because of some inconsistent / forgotten stuff and just how annoying him ignoring his women gets.
- Premise and characters are (initially) interesting. Actually villainous MCs are super rare in these stories, so I was excited. Note the "was".
- Fairly unique take on the System/Tower setting. The way the MC's appraisal skill quips on how much better everyone else is than him was actually pretty funny.
- This one is a double-edged sword: The MC never really gets OP (compared to the characters around him), which means he actually does need to rely on his scheming skills. This leads me to...
Cons- This is a story where the MC is supposed to be a schemer. After the main story starts... he's just absolutely terrible at it. Like, the worst teenage villainess can come up with better plots. Since this is supposed to be his strength, it kind of unravels the point of the novel.
- Characterization is bad, especially for female characters. A character's given personality at any time is determined by what the plot demands. This makes the MC do s*upid and/or impulsive things all the time, despite, you know, the entirety of the novel being about not being that.
- World building is just odd after a bit. The novel tries to pull off the "these people are ignorant rubes from a medieval time, so they're easy to trick/lead" idea, but most of the characters have been summoned from modern Earth, so it makes no sense. Magic is clearly D&D based, which is fun at first, but then the author becomes the world's most railroad-y DM before dropping the idea all together.
- The female lead is awful. Yandere characters are hard to do, and the author drops the ball super hard. In addition to not having a personality outside of "MC is my everything", many a plot point is just "female lead got upset and is trying to kill someone/blow them up". There is also a harem, which is similarly characterized.
If you are new to webnovels and/or can turn your brain off, this might be a novel you can enjoy. Otherwise, it will try you. You may also be able to enjoy this as a meme/so-bad-it's-good novel as well. The MC got an overpowered dragon wife and yandere dragon child who loves him. His 4th job change is a unique legendary due to the luck of being the first to study a dragon closely. The regressor pays LOTS of importance on the MC due to his management skills, influence (honorary bishop of the holy church, dragon's chosen, etc) and doesn't want the MC to leave the guild (Not like that's gonna happen anyway since the regressor is like the world's protagonist)
Plus, the MC is gradually starting to pay interest in Black Magic. I think he might study it later.
The Yandere girlfriend is "contained" to a certain extent, she won't kill or hurt some women around the MC as she knows that they are valuable resources to him (but she will still kill those not so important yet try to flirt with him).
Yeah, so good so far.
I ended up dropping this novel after reading about 120 chapters.
While the novel has a few flaws, they are small and easy to ignore.
What eventually drove me to drop this was the main 'love interest', Jung Hayan.
It's not because she's a yandere, though. I neither like nor dislike yanderes. If they are done well, I can even enjoy them.
What really drove me to hate this character was her uselessness. She's a powerful, genius magician but emotionally she's a wreck. A perfect example of a character with high IQ but with a rock-bottom EQ. She is basically a child in the body of a grown woman, unable to function without her 'parent', Lee Kiyoung.
Calling her a child is really a perfect description of her. Those of you who have read some of those japanese 'dad-adopts-little-girl' novels can exactly imagine what kind of feeling this character gives the reader: a helpless little girl that needs to be protected by their adoptive father.
While that kind of thing can be cute, it's no longer so cute when the 'little girl' is 21 years old. Initially I didn't hate it, but after reading 120 chapters of her childish behaviour, I couldn't put up with it anymore.
I became so frustrated because I really do want to continue reading. It's the other good parts of the novel that prevented me from giving a lower rating.
