Hello, I'm the translator for this series, Calvis.

I really wanted to do a monster reincarnation / kingdom building series for translating. At first, I thought of just reading this myself, but I thought 'why don't I just TL and read it with the readers together?' Anyways, this series is an easy to read, action packed story of a man reincarnated as a goblin. It's a pretty popular series, and what I really like about the story so far is the fact that it has all the elements that I love... more>> (Fantasy, Gaming elements, Harem, Reincarnation). So I've wanted to share this with you all.

If you want something action-packed with kingdom building, revenge-driven, adventure and a unique fusion fantasy novel, or just some good old enjoyment, then this would be the novel for you. As for me, I'll be on the lookout for possible waifus haha. Anyways, these types of novels are a personal guilty pleasure of mine hehe.

Also I'll be reading at the pace I'm translating so I'll be anticipating my own releases as much as you do [Okay I'll admit, I did read the first 50 chapters, sheesh. I won't read any further :) ] I usually can't put down a monster reincarnation novel down, and with the popularity it had in Korea, I'm sure it won't disappoint in terms of personal enjoyment (it's been pretty awesome and hilarious for me so far). Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the novel as much as I will be having, and a quick shoutout to Sai101 and uptime who will be busily proofreading this series. A sincere thank you to both my PRs and to the readers. ^^ Yours Truly, Calvis <<less

Honestly? It's kind of average.. At the moment, it really reminds me of "Re:Monster", certainly not in a good way. Gaming elements = indicator for poorly written novels, where the author easily pulls everything out of known skill systems, makes the world building rather shallow and flat. We also get a crappy evolution system that breaks with every form of traditional fantasy due to female goblins evolving into fairies and the like.. X.x

The first few chapters as well as his motivation for revenge are kind of questionable. What the f**k... more>> did he expect from the Sword Saint Ha-Yuri, that she would wipe his ass whenever something bad happened to him, just because she gave him an oral promise which she broke? Then you could kill half of humanity for making empty promises, the world is full of such people. She even gifted him 1 gold out of the blue. Can't even take the protagonist seriously, when he feels like a 6 year old brat throwing a tantrum, simply because life didn't go his way in a world centered around survival of the fittest.

Furthermore, the author wants to sell us a ferocious world where the MC survived from day to day, 5 phrases later the group is betrayed by the supposed super "trustful" person, how did he even survive so long if his insight into human nature is that bad? The beginning could have been way better and more conclusive, for now it's simply a filler read, hope it gets more enjoyable. <<less

This is your typical failure of an MC that gets reincarnated with all his memories attached. The only difference is instead of coming back as a human he comes back as a goblin to get revenge on all those that looked down on him (which is basically every human aside from 1 prostitute, who, oh happens to reincarnate along with the MC. LOL, really?) There are a few funny moments while reading this, but the jokes get recycled and gets old fast. The MC gets all the chicks, goblins, fairies,... more>> dryads, humans, in the future, he'll probably be banging gnomes, hobbits, orcs and chickens too.

The MC talks to himself a lot, so often times you'll be reading useless muttering about him telling himself that I must get stronger, and not become a useless buffoon this time, and try to save the prostitute he was sleeping with and make her come to her side, many, many times. Yes, it gets annoying. You'll also hear the MC comparing himself or his weapons to other weapons saying something like "Hmm this sword is good, but its not better than the sword one of the top humans use", or "I'm strong, but many humans can still defeat me, so I need to get stronger" numerous times.

Basically, because he was a loser in his past life, he now sees every human, aside from his pretty, but overpowered female harem members as enemies and sworn that he would kill them all, while getting stronger, oh did I mention he wants to get stronger? Well get ready to hear that a lot while reading this, at least half to a third of the chapters have him mentioning this.

Read this... if you like loser MC's becoming overpowered, thick MC plot armor, in hopes that MC's harem may rival even Genghis khan, useless mutter, and repeated use of the manly word "I want to get stronger" <<less

I was inspired to read ahead by pretty good start, but no more.

Two problems with this story: plotholes and a**holes. Hence -2 stars.

  1. Under plotholes I put everything that is wrong with the story, like leveling system which rises your race and class through same means. Or that intermediate swordsman have status equal to beggar.
  2. a**holes? Everyone. Seriously, only those characters do not seems to be a**holes, who have not yet had enough screentime to reveal their assholish character. Only one I pity so far is Sword-Saint who receives overwhelming amount of hate from main and side characters. She is either truly only innocent character or just two-faced b*tch, which still puts her above MC and his crew morally.

A fairly okey story, with an average plot.

The biggest problem with the story is that the MC’s drive is focused mostly on revenge, which is fine as a plot drive.

The revenge reason is truly shallow however. This is from ch 1 ... more>>
Spoiler

MC lives as a beggar and is given money from the Saint Sword and offered help if he needs it again. MC goes out of town after using said money, is ambushed and betrayed by his friend he brings his dying female friend to the guild of the Saint Sword and is refused help. Female friend dies and MC also bleeds to death and swears revenge on the Saint Sword for being a hypocrite that only offers help.

[collapse]

His thoughts of getting revenge is then mentioned again and again as his reason and goal but as mentioned his revenge drive is like that of a jealous kid who don’t even care for reason.

Another part that irked me was that the MC is said to have lived for 10 years as a warrior but was proven to be one of the most untalented persons ever to have the warrior class and he was stuck as one of the weakest warriors through all his time there. So what does he do when he reincarnates as a monster? He chooses the warrior class again and because he has no talents in weapons he chooses classes that are focused in all of them and starts to learn ghe usage of them all.....I was like wtf dude you have 0 warrior talent but because you have no talent you keep picking the warrior class and keep posting logic about how it’s better to stay with your previous class and knowledge since it would be way worse to pick something else..... sigh....

Another point is that monsters are good, honorable, kind and stick together while humans are greedy, mu*derous, raping animals. Which is fine as a story but if your gonna be the good guy then why are you slaughtering and attacking humans? You refuse to eat them and eat monsters to stay human and keep your humanity but right from the start you were killing humans within minutes from being reincarnated. Oh right it’s cause you gotta evolve and grow stronger for your revenge plot...

Overall there are just no real bright side to the story and these points really rubbed me the wrong way. It was fine up to around ch 20 but afterwards the plot drive is missing while the author keeps reminding us of the revenge plot every few chapters. But as mentioned revenge plot is just meh. <<less

As much as everyone says, 'this is pretty average'- it is. That said I rated down for a few reasons:

  • The story itself gets more and more mediocre as it progresses.
  • Every original purpose given is dropped/sidelined.
  • There seems to be no logic or point to his raceswap/timejump, other than to force the story. I'm not saying there needs to be one- but the game-like setting implies it should be somehow part of that apparently godlike 'design'.
  • All females are depicted as either 'fodder' or 'potential harem member'- in at least one case, both.
  • So many 'just for shock value' depictions- all blatantly bs/illogical.
For a 'made up as you go along' story, it started out ok & looked like it would get better- but by ch 80 you'll be struggling to care anymore as the... more>> 'clan building' is just 'narrated junk that happens', and the MC is just 'a guy in charge without a real goal/plan', despite the fact everyone kisses his bu*t and praises his supposed genius. You'd think the other clan leaders never saw a strong young'un before... <<less

This is my first review (or comment) on this site, even though I've been around here for ~1 year. I really like this story, mainly because it has the time travel element (the Korean version) but it becomes unique with a twist of evolution and the MC being another race. The first few chapter look promising to me and the future chapter will probably be even better if those army building tags are pulled of right. The only thing that worries me is if this novel will be abandoned or... more>> have really inconsistent releases but i've seen really good comments about this translator so I think it'll be alright. I also hope this becomes one of the translators main projects so that we can get more chapters out faster (if thats what a main project entails)

Lastly, I want to thank the translator for his good work and for picking up this novel. <<less

It starts interesting when it is building the setup, but it becomes dull afterwards.

The characters here are really bland, generic, cliche, or just not fleshed out. There are times when the characters' backstories are well established, like with the MC, but they end up barely portraying any personality. The side characters are just given one defining trait, and that is much it. The story does try to remedy the problem of its weak cast by constantly introducing new characters to keep everything from becoming too stale. One thing for sure,... more>> you don't come into the story for the incredible characters because there is nothing much about them.

The plot is... decent, I guess. It feels like an amalgamation of various ideas from other novels of its type. Revenge, reincarnation, game-elements, etc.. It has all been done before, and this novel doesn't really do anything different or anything outstanding. Also, the story easily breaks apart under scrutiny because it has lots of plot elements that isn't explained or it has plot developments that are just forced. In the end, it really adequate for any readers that just needs some mindless action and undemanding entertainment. The plot is of an easy popcorn variety that is most likely to satisfy the undemanding readers.

And there is the writing. It is also decent too I guess. Nothing really bad, but there is nothing good about it either. The prose is really simplistic and mundane, without any sense of artistry. This might be more of the fault of the translator, but it remains as that, a pedestrian writing that doesn't provide anything to enhance the reading experience.

Overall, the story is just mediocre. An okay read to pass time but it has nothing that makes it stand out. It is a by the numbers novel that will satisfy anyone that doesn't demand too much. <<less

Sweet. Green is back. Picked up by Asian Hobbyist October 2019. And I hope they will keep translating this.

Green Skin has some flaws, but yeah, not everyone likes Harry Potter and not everyone likes Wheel of time. Green skin is that kind of novel, not everyone will like this novel. No sugar coating, not for kids or readers that likes japanese novel writing technique where everyone becomes friend. No such shounen, young kids, bullsh*t here.

For me Green Skin is good. Its "raw", its more of a grown up read. No... more>> so much "everyone is a friend or become friends" feeling in it. People die in this novel, people get chop up into pieces in this novel. Not everyone are friends, women will be used for selfish gains. There is s*x. A strong 4 star. <<less

A good story premise, poorly executed.

I was really excited to read this, as I like species evolution novels.

The framework of this novel, the overall plot is good, but the author just skips from one idea to the next without adding story telling.

Such as the action sequences. ... more>>
Spoiler

MC picks up a dagger from a dead goblin, and throws it at the grouped humans. 2 sentences later.... Somehow he has killed 8 humans throwing a dagger. He did not loot any others, he did not time his throws between other goblins attacks.... just poor story telling

[collapse]

Or story telling between events to bring the world alive.

Spoiler

Him and his new goblin clan kill some humans in a cave. Then they show up back at their camp and show off to the other goblin groups. There are many things that happen between those 2 events. Such as clean up, looting weapons, MC showing leadership skills, like rewarding those under him that ranked up, the description of marching back with dead humans tied to shoulder polls like hunted animals, etc...

I could only get half way through chapter 6 before dropping this. <<less

This novel is a cheap imitation of Re:Monster. Monsters can evolve into other races that have nothing in common. It seems extremely s*upid that a hobgoblin can evolve into a orc, kobold, fairy and anything else that you can imagine. Humans can also evolve into monsters if they meet certain conditions. This didn't bother me when I read Re:Monster because it was just a JP novel that I never take seriously. But I expect more from KR novels. The description also made me think that the MC was going to... more>> stay a goblin. I thought he would become the a powerful goblin by using his previous life's knowledge. I also agree with another reviewer that it seems s*upid how they mixed the class and race system. The author should have made it harder to evolve. I don't understand how you can feel pride in your race when you change it every 5 minutes. The title green skin also seems outdated. The author should have just called it Monster Evolution or something. They can't even be called a goblin tribe anymore around chapter 10. I also don't understand how humans didn't know that monsters could evolve. They should have seen them evolve mid battle and stuff. They are literally always evolving. It's also funny how every human is Korean. The author fight start to become extremely dragged out and pointless around chapter 40. The fight with the fat guild master gave me a headache. It made me understand how his other novel is over 1300 chapters long and still ongoing. It also says that the main story ended before chapter 800 and it has over 400 side stories. This author loves to put filler in his stories like Chinese authors. He only cares about his word count. Everything about this novel feels extremely boring and repetitive. It makes me want to bang my head against a table. The MC also has a sick monster fetish and sees humans as ants. He could care less if all of humanity died in the most excruciating way imaginable. That's as long as it didn't include his harem. The author also loves misunderstandings and annoying situations. The characters do not have normal emotions or thought process. The MC even says that he doesn't understand why he does everything. This is because the author is just randomly pulling everything out his ass. There actions and personalities don't add up with what they do. It also doesn't make sense with their past lives. The whole story is just one big clusterf*ck. <<less

I liked this one a lot since its like in the middle of Goblin Kingdom and Re:monster/Goblin Slayer in extremities. It is a bit of a revenge story since it seems many of the human guilds and factions are very corrupt, and the MC is going after them one step at a time. Humans guilds have rampant corruption with its social castes usually associated with their job class or unique abilities (think of a caste system), so many lower class humans or "undesirables" are homeless/penniless and resort to banditry. There... more>> is r*pe, but more on the human side such as female porters being used as disposable pawns and s*xual outlets by adventurers.

The monsters in this world are quite honorable, resourceful, and tend to care better for their clan mates than the humans do excluding a few human guilds. For example, its normal for monster clans to look after their weaker members and not abandon them like a pack of baboons in the animal kingdom. The Blood Dagger clan's goblins remind me of the little yellow minions from Despicable Me. It's interesting how the "Green Skins" don't find humans attractive at all or r*pe them normally like in other fantasy stories; they would rather pursue their own females within their race as mating partners. The criteria for handsomeness and beauty for "Green Skins" is pretty funny.

Some notable points to this story is that: humans can become monsters if they clear some conditions, goblins are not into raping or show s*xual interest in human women in fact the only Goblins like the MC who likes human-like women are considered to have a special fetish, the evolutionary path is quite diverse, and there is an otherworldly store where the MC and other residents of that world can buy equipment, rank ups, unique abilities with points that are acquired from game announcement-like missions or actions. There is some snu snu, but its usually brief. There's quite a number of allusions and references to other MMORPG games like WoW and Aion Online.

The evolutionary pathway for goblins is quite diverse. They can become hobgoblins, orcs (think WoW orcs, not pig orcs), kobolds -> werewolves, half-ogre -> ogre, minotaur, faeries, lamia, and demons like lesser Asmodians like the ones from Aion Online. The term "Green Skins" seems to refer to the various tribes, races, clans that used to be goblins at one point but have evolved over time, however, many of these evolved forms retain their various shades of green skin tone. <<less

I read this for the evolutions, but now they're far between and other than it being inferior when compared to "The Devil's Evolution Catalog", everything in between is boring, the whole revenge thing is fine, but it goes beyond that to the point where it's now at a stage where he'll try killing the only decent person in the entire world.

If you want a novel about going back in time and redoing everything, go with "I am the Monarch" instead.

I am a huge fan of regressor instruction manual (RIM) . And this novel, green skin (GS) , is from the same author. Thus I decided to give it a try. The starting was good but as it went on and on it became shitter and shitter. I am blown away by the fact that the gem RIM and the tr*sh GS have the same author.

There are a lot of negative points about this novel and others have also commented about the points.... thus I will not mention them. I... more>> will mention only one point.

That is,

The author has depicted every human, I repeat, every Freaking human apart from mc's girl as people who are stubborn, driven by lust, selfish and a tr*sh of a person. Like for real... how can the author not understand that a world cannot survive if everyone is either good or if everyone is either bad.... there has to be a balance, even if the balance is tilted to one side, it has to be there. The civilization should have destroyed itself long ago. Amen. <<less

Don't know who put Re: Monster into the recommendations section. This section meant for something you recommend. These novels have the same premise, but comparing GS to RM is the same as comparing pizza to vomit.

Unlike RM, GS is not so repetitive, and its MC is closer to a monster. Power-ups provided via quests or killing and not by overpowered skill assimilation that boggles out narration and kills the suspense. Reincarnation is more meaningful and not an empty pretext to kickstart the story. MC is not aimless, he moves the... more>> plot without fillers and cleverly provides action, without tiring you out. Besides him, many other characters exist to enrich the story, and it's nice to read from their POV. The story is not dragged out by the author (so far), and you can feel how he planned the story out beforehand.

If I need to choose the shortcoming, it will be the fact that revenge was a little unsatisfactory midway, and that the main revenge reason wasn't properly delivered. Also, the story turns bland sometimes.

I rate it somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for now. <<less

Bloggbigg - nailed it in his review

- Just wanted to say I now hate these two words, "For blooddagger!" due to overuse.

[collapse]

The MC is given another life, but hardly transfers an iota of actual intelligence over till his next. A mediocre character is given a chance once more, and remains mediocre in his next life. You kill monsters in one life, humans in the next... so what's the point then? Everyone just wants to live... but the MC doesn't even show a thread of introspection.

This novel is "a-ight"

Read it, liked it.

Not a cookie cutter type of Novel. Folks have their own motivations and the story is entertaining. Human becomes Monster and is actively acting like a monster with a goal in Mind. Very readable story and the gaming elements are not gimey random reward or deus ex machina but more of a merit system that rewards for battle experience.

So far, I recommend it.

Ok so I MTLED this all the way to the end... and I can say it's too their when it comes to this type of... more>> novel. It's very fleshed out and the reason why things are happening are actually well explained.

Spoiler

So, this world is like a GU pot, where a person that encompasses all of the original sins is able to ascend to a kind of Godhood and everyone left is recycled into the next cycle. One of the gods was basically kicked out of heaven and wants to get back there. He makes a religion and uses his influence in the world to get those who have sins to basically get sacrificed for him so he can ascend again. The MC becomes a living GOD AND CREATES HIS own cycle of ascension where people are thrown to the bottom of this pit and basically have to become zealous believers of him to ascend from the 7 levels of hell back to the regular world... Lmao the main antagonist from his previous life was thrown into the pit, lost all of her powers, found a husband, became an idol, and developed true faith in the monster MC, before making it out of hell into Heaven. Anyway, that fallen god, has angels that do his bidding and messed with the MCs religion which triggered an holy war and the MC fought that God and actually won. I didn't go into depth depth but there'ssome fun stuff in here, especially with his three kids, one of which was basically ancient disaster class demon plant hybrid.

There's even more stuff then what I shared in the spoiler, there's no real translator anymore so just mtl it

Finished reading the first three chapters. I think I like this novel. I don't unterstand the comedy tag, I have a dark humor but I did not find any funny jokes.

MC is betrayed and dies. After that he is reincarnated as a green vermin and has also time traveled to the past. Now he is the monster that the other humans would learn to fear.
