I really want to like this as much as possible, I really do. But I can't. There are some brilliant moments and characters, and it is a perfectly consistent comedy, but... The best metaphor would be - "Bunch of jewels evenly scattered in dirt". Too many empty parts. Too many pointless arcs. Something great happened? Back to nothing for a few dozen chapters. Great character is introduced? Forever forgotten. Again and again and again. Is it good? Yes. Is it great? No way. Separate moments are, but as a whole... more>> it is lacking. I will only recommend it if you are really insensitive to your own time and patient to mediocrity.

The elephant in the room. The one in the title. Regressor. Most of the novel? He's just not here. It is just pathetic how the author remembers that there was someone like that towards the very end and hurriedly starts character building. The most annoying part is that the result is not bad, just the timing couldn't be worse. To neglect the key character you are building your whole story around so much, and for so long, just unbelievable. What was not neglected - BL jokes about him. I wouldn't even continue reading this if there were even slight hints that it is something more than just a joke, but there weren't such hints. But the number of such jokes is annoyingly high. Well, whatever.

Onto the good parts.

Characters, the most important for me. Side characters are great. Most of them are very simple, one-dimensional even, but there was enough attention to their development to break through their simplicity and make them shine brightly, even if some do not change much or even do not change at all. But the same way few shine, others don't. Because there sure are too many of them. There are more than a dozen who enter the plot and stay constantly relevant, having even key importance, but they get zero attention past their introduction. It is especially noticeable when such misfits are a part of mc's harem.

Oh yeah, the harem. I usually hate it with passion, but here it's not bad. There is MC, there is fMC. And then there are some fools who MC keeps around because they are useful. The only ones who have a chance to develop something like a mutual emotional attachment are aforementioned unfortunate souls who don't get any attention after their entrance.

Again, MC and fMC. They are the best part, nothing to say without spoilers.

Action, comedy and politics. Each is very good, and each is spread too thinly to be called the focus. Story is... There? I guess. There is even a proper ending, but too much feels unfinished.

To summarize - too many unused and underused assets. Too many pointless and loose ends. More than enough great moments. Amazing MC and fMC as an axis of everything. Amazing supporting cast. I think the comedy part is the best bet - if you like the humor here, even not-so-good parts will keep you entertained. <<less

it looks like a lot of readers gave reviews but only read a few chapters so they questioned the plot. Many are also disappointed because they expect something like other novels, here I will help answer some of your questions, without spoilers :

1. What are the reasons women are attracted to mc? What are their motives? > If you want spoilers, go to the Regressor instruction manual wiki or read half of the whole chapter and you'll find the answer, I will not give spoilers because it will reduce the... more>> reader's interest.

2. why is there no character developmant for mc? > I'm sure you mean character development like getting stronger or changing from a bad character to a good one, but not all character development is like that, sure this MC is different.

3. why is there a weak to strong tag but MC doesn't get stronger? > He got stronger in his own way, not physically. In the definition of weak to strong but not in physical strength.

4. Why doesn't MC try to get stronger (physically) and only manipulate people and rely on others? > Go back to the first chapter as the system says in mc's stats and see mc's potential in his stats! 'No matter how hard he works, he's...' You know what the system says next.

I can say this novel is really different from the others when it comes to MC and character development, so many people feel it's not what they expected because it's 'different'. Also many feel cringy with the character of MC. Well, some feel uncomfortable with the mc's character but some also find it funny, so not recommended for anyone who find it cringe. As someone said in the review there are a lot of negative reviews here because personal reason than objective.

I'm say it again this novel is DIFFERENT if it's about MC & chara development. So, don't expect it like any other MC, he is very ruthless and cunning, sometimes many people can't stand it. Really, not recommended for those who have a weak mentality. <<less

Despite the interesting premise and relatively strong start which showcases our protagonist's quick wits, this novel's prospects quickly go downhill. Women in the story become obsessed with the MC at a ridiculous rate and with increasing degrees of psychoticism.
MC's ruthless pragmatism is refreshing in a genre dominated by either mass-mu*derers or wet blankets. However, he quickly becomes a fantastic (as in; remote from reality) manipulator and there is very little justification for the almost universal high esteem he is held in by the women in the story.

Spoiler

The plot is also seemingly directionless once they escape the dungeon.

[collapse]

On the other hand, the translation quality and style are decent, excluding the action scenes which are very poorly written.

Note: Spoiler tags used for your convenience; text within is vague

I liked Regressor Instruction Manual for a while. I've read 300+ chapters of the novel and some of the manhwa so far. I put it on hold, may drop for good. I got tired of a few things.

Mainly, it became too much of a harem. Not just a subplot—the main plot. MC spends most of his time manipulating and leeching off one emotionally disturbed woman after another. Yeah, he doesn't actually spend all that much time with the eponymous regressor.... more>> It should be called, "Yandere Girl Instruction Manual."

Protagonist's competency or lack thereof

Spoiler

Because the women he manipulates are so obviously unbalanced, it doesn't feel like he's a great mastermind most of the time. It's also revealed there's a reason he's so successful at that aside from perceptiveness.

Similarly, many of his plans and wins aren't impressive. There's a major one near the beginning where all he actually did was go visit someone and say a few sentences, but it gets dragged out for so long because throughout the MC is reflecting on it like he's walking on a tightrope and brilliantly succeeding.

It seems like the story overall implies that he's not so weak as the system suggests in the first chapter and/or clever enough to use what he has so effectively he competes. But the text itself repeats that he's weak over and over. He'll improve, but it only tells us about it by pointing out it's pathetic compared to others. That's just discouraging to read again and again.

He himself goes back and forth between, "I suck, no point in trying to do x" (often when the author doesn't want him to do something that makes apparent sense) and "Mwhahaha, I'm brilliant" (when he wasn't all that or the author wants him to do something odd).

[collapse]

What the plot did or didn't do

Spoiler

There wasn't enough action. The beginning made me feel like there would be at least a little more than there is.

I also have A Very Serious Personal Problem with characters who can do magic, but don't and don't care—mf'er, that's effin' magic! M-a-g-i-c!! Why??!! He does use it, but I resent that he isn't more into it. Like I said, personal problem.

There was so much focus on talking, manipulating, and the characters... But as the story continues, they're all 'over the top.' Little interesting psychology to enjoy, mostly just silliness. Overall humor level was smile-not-laugh for me.

(Although also entirely harem, I have laughed way more at I'm The Fated Villain [up to chapter 237] and Gu Changge pulls off better manipulations. Changge is a better villain all around. Though it goes downhill quickly too, I ❤️ Gu Changge. He is appalling and adorable at the same time.)

[collapse]

I must know if the MC is a true villain!

Spoiler

I picked it up because rumor had it that he was a villain character. He is, but... it's too comedic a story overall. Comedy villains often feel like the opposite to me. Not what I was going for when I picked it up.

Plus, he's trying to seem at least semi-good most of the time and... he's merely a bland kind of evil in secret. Yes, I'm saying he isn't evil enough, he's just a scumbag.

(Reverend Insanity and Warlock Of Magus World have much better villain MCs. But don't let anyone trick you into thinking that Otherworldly Evil Monarch's MC is actually evil.)

[collapse]

Purely in its favor, where I stopped, there was a reveal playing out about what happened with the MC in the first timeline. I was very interested in that and enjoying what had been shown so far. But it's so long, it required way more investment than I had.

My final judgment is that it has some initial appeal, but what it does in the beginning doesn't last. So unless you are truly into the features I mentioned, like collecting obsessive girls and letting them do all the important work—or enjoy its sense of humor—you may get bored eventually. <<less

Ummmm. I've read the entire thing lol more than 3 times and he does not lose control of his fate lmfao wtf?? Hayan is a yandere, obviously but first of all she's not his only chick. If you get far enough you'll even see them SEPERATE for a whole year with no contact except phone calls lol. For those of you who think that Kiyoung cannot control his own fate? I'll pray for you lol. Read farther. After the blue guild arc - it gets really good. And after the... more>> princess arc it gets real. He literally has the continent in his hand. Ya'll haven't even met his children and you over here talking about his fate is out of control lol. Once you figure out what God is controlling the system, lmk if he doesn't have control of his fate OR if he even controls the Gods fate.

OH and for people who are saying he isn't a good person - DUHHHHHHHH?? The literal synopsis is that he is a villain who will hide behind the regressor lmaoooo. Tags say "cold protagonist, Cruel people, twisted personality, ruthless protagonist, manipulative characters, masochistic characters, depiction of cruelty" AND LO AND BEHOLD, MY FAVORITE ONE ITS SO CRAZY GUYS ITS UMMM "ANTI-HERO" LIKE OMG WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? OBVIOUSLY.. He's not a hero LMFAO smh

That is all, my little chickens,

& if you have any questions about the novel just ask. Its always best to get opinions from people who have actually read the novel, not skim through here and there. <<less

I like how this is an award winning novel but with a lot flaws. Many of the characters "development" felt a bit rushed or were lacking in detail. Other than that I have no complains since I'm mostly brain dead when reading so I suggest the manwha.

There are many great things about this book. The beginning is a solid start and sets the tone of the series. There are fairly well developed and distinct characters that continue to be relevant throughout much of the story. The world is well-developed and interesting as people and events happen and force the MC to react. Some story arcs are better than others but in general they are of high quality and original.

Despite all this, I have stopped reading at around chapter 330 and I have little expectation of picking... more>> this up again. I have one big problem with the story that many others have commented on already. I don't like the Main Character. I don't want him to succeed. Watching him outwit and entrap a rival isn't fun for me but annoying.

I have had this problem before with many arrogant CN Main Characters, but I want to stress that while CN MCs are one-dimensional pieces of garbage, our MC here is a fully fleshed out piece garbage. He has an original personality, is at times clever, and he is capable of recognizing his own strengths and failings.

The MC is unapologeticaly a piece of garbage. This is a cornerstone of his personality and even a source of pride for the MC. I was able to enjoy him as the MC for a while but his attitude and unwillingness to try and be better to his friends and others ultimately turned me against him. He has somehow managed to make actual bonds and friends with people around him, yet despite seeing how his lies and deceit actively harm and in some cases destroy their lives he never tries to change. The MC is unapologeticaly a piece of garbage. This stops being a draw after a while, if it ever was one to begin with. The MC is the biggest problem with the story as he makes it so hard to get drawn in and get attached. <<less

As I grew old, though I still like selfless MC more, I prefer selfish MCs more, but my favorite is someone balanced in between, but this MC is none of that, he simply a extremely selfish peace of tr*sh. He let one of the side characters get bullied badly just so he can be the prince in shining armor, and reap the benefits of loyalty.
Spoiler

His plotting led the women to be obsessed with him, that she mu*dered another woman brutally, but he doesn't feel an once of guilt, he covered for her because he's scared while thinking how he can distance from her safely. It just feels immoral and distasteful to cheer for a self-centered guiltless bastard.

[collapse]

The regressor of the story isn't the MC, and he's a selfless hero kind of character, but he failed to act at the start, just a few words giving his knowledge and experience could have made a lot of difference, either to form a formation and defend, or gave them more edge to flee, but he choose to remain silent witch didn't make any sense.
Spoiler

This regressor was very interested in the same female and that picked the MC's interest in her because the MC knew he's a regressor, but the regressor didn't approach her while she was bullied which didn't make sense, given the chaotic situation, a beautiful female is obviously vulnerable to envious b*tches and h**ny bastards.

This is the one of the novels where the protagonist is real and follows his personality not like other authors who say the MC is very evil but he goes on saving people for no apparent reason and getting losses where the person who is saved is angry at him and regressor instruction manual protagonist is not like that at all. The best thing is how he manipulates people around him as he is weak as hell

Very unique novel. I don't understand how people can praise generic plots and think bad of this one. I recommend this for people that want a MC that can overcome challenges through lies, fabrication, agitation and evil schemes while being very weak. If you are specting generic OP MC this is not for you.

Honestly it gets tiring. Once, twice, maybe thrice. But having random women fall onto the floor trying to lick his shoes as if he was the strongest or handsomest being is just not fun anymore. Point is, he's smart enough to know he doesn't deserve these women but use them anyways. Blame it on his attribute, sure. I just wanted to enjoy the process of him being a cunning bastard but now he is just... Dumb.

There has been no decent explanation of how he repays these women. Instead after one... more>> event, another comes in and he gains another woman to exploit and use and the cycle continues. I enjoyed his character design. However, the character can never surpass the author who wrote him. Now his tricks are predictable and dumb, he makes so many mistakes but gets justified because if his harem plot armors.

Spoiler

Mercenary lady paved his way for him. Like literally no reason to and in this novel it wasn't stated what advantage he gave back to her. Of course, she ends up in love with him and that's the reason why.

Okay how about his sister-like yandere girlfriend? He manipulates her and uses her but doesn't trust her love, instead using it as presents for her work. How about that random japan girl who just happened to be a big masochist trained by his alternate self? No story literally she became plot armor to justify how he gets money and important information.

Last but not least the girl who is smart and his *soulmate*. I love her but it makes me wonder where her guild leader is when she is using so much of her guild resources (and again this novel doesn't explain how our MC gives back the amount of help), do they not care anymore? Okay let's say I accept the plot that this chick who has no good stats but is manipulative and sly like our MC managed to climb the ladder and be influential in the same way our MC does. Then why would she give it all away to mc? Because she loves him of course.

Don't kill me because there's more. Reading from the reviews there seems to be a dragon mom and dragon daughter who will obsess over him. Nuff said, plot armor.

[collapse]

At this point I kinda want the women to die so he can see how incompetent he is without them. Yeah it's gotten to the point where I can't even feel anything for the female characters anymore. As someone else here reviewed, they don't feel like real people. Just convenient plot armour that moves.

In the case of our regressor, the MC seems to take care of him. The problem being the regressor doesn't really get any spotlight (Maybe in later chapters he will) and mc's shield brother also just gets run over alot.

I'm the type that can read over a thousand chapters of repetitive story but this blatant usage of human plot armour devices hurts to read. I had to write a review so people would think twice before vomiting their time. It's a good read, it starts slow and grows really well before plummeting and being plain dumb. <<less

The initial bits of the story are indeed the weakest... I managed to get through only coz of seeing a potentially decent yandere in it.... But boy does it get better!

The MC he's by no means too smart... he's just super good at choplogic and conning... What makes it better is that he often ends up buying his own BS and comes to questionable interpretations of various situations~ He's one of the few chars that I actually enjoy seeing get screwed over! His actions of flipping the board (not literally)... more>> after losing is what's been the most entertaining thus far~~!!

The girls are properly insane and that's gr8~!!Also, the misunderstandings are seriously gold... Hyunsung and Kiyoung have an awesome dynamic going too~~

The first run is actually getting fleshed out pretty well... And despite it being good now you can only say that the stage has been set for it to go further!

Currently I'd say this is a conditional masterpiece but it could very well surpass that tier~~ <<less

Although I haven't read much of the novel, I find this novel to be one of the best on the sites.

Ill keep this review brief...

The main character is unique in comparison to other j-novel and k-novels, his actions are unpredictable making the series interesting. Furthermore, the plot and story building is solid with real character development as you progress through the chapters. The translator/s is also skilled (active translations) using many literary techniques throughout the chapters, enhancing the reading experience. I would definitely recommend you try this series beyond the... more>> initial chapters. It starts slow due to the lower skill of the initial translators and the time it takes to setup the world, but it definitely picks up in quality. <<less

Up until chapter 550s, this story is golden. It balances well mirth, warmth and drama. The characters are all interesting in their own ways - even if some are not as well developed as others, obviously - and the plot is also adequate. This novel does not hesitate to subvert cliches and to make fun of them. The MC is smart and touching at times, when his cynism is overcome by the MC's warm entourage. Over all, it is truly an enjoyable read, especially after the MC grows more warm... more>> toward his team and guildmembers. Still, I had expected that the author would, at some point, pull the same bullsh*t as other do when your MC is simply too smart. As of chapters 560s, the MC makes a decision that is not only imbecilic (counter-productive) but moronic (that doesn't make any sense). Let me explain.

The MC's area of expertise is managing people and manipulating them. His social skills are simply the best there is, literally. He is compared to the Demon Lord of lies and deception. And yet, when his yandere girlfriend doesn't grow any further despite spending her days reading books, he thinks that breaking up for a time will help her, somehow. The details do not matter - you will eventually get to that moment. The MC quite simply rolled multiple critical failures on his understanding of his girlfriend, her yandereness, and how to properly deal with her. He never was perfect, but this failure seems quite out of character, and forced, considering it ushered a time skip of a year for the whole guild - which scattered for some other reasons. It feels half-assed, and I can't say I appreciate authors taking readers for idiots, especially after such a brilliant beginning.

I hope this failure soon gets resolved because it is a smear on such a good novel. <<less

Great start!

Spoiler

Main character is a weakling with the ability to see other people's status. He doesn't really care about others - kind of manipulative? There's another character that is a regressor or someone who travelled back in time - he is overly-kind and cares about helping weaklings. The story is just beginning but it's a good introductory so far!

This story is a remix of Death Note and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. If you liked either, you'll like this one.

The story goes, a group of people are transported to a tutorial dungeon, and one of them, recognizes that there is a person in the group who is a regressor (Yoo Joonghyuk, but on his 2nd regression). The only problem is that this person is NOT cute and lovable Kim Dokja, but more like late-season Light Yagami.

This magnificent bastard is Lee Kiyoung. Recognising that all his stats are sh*t except for... more>> intelligence and luck, he decides to cling onto the regressor Kim Hyunsung for dear life. Like Light, he is very good at manipulating situations and the people around him, but because he's doing it on the protagonist's behalf, and then to save the world, it is a tiny bit more palatable. The main attraction is Lee Kiyoung who 'wins' not by using force, but by using the power of his 'wit'. Even if some of his solutions are unorthodox.

It slows down around chapter 200-300 but if you stop there, you will absolutely miss the show stopper near the end ~ 770. That was worth it.

Spoiler

But OMG that bastard! That absolute tr*shbag! Look at what you did to Hayan! Not only look what you did to Hayan, but what did you do to Kim Hyunsung!!!

This beautiful, handsome regressor who already has trauma from the first round... although he distrusted everyone at first, he was finally healing because everything was getting better and it seemed like things were going to be OK... Through a convoluted series of events (which were engineered by the tr*shbag), he even got the regressor to confess and talk about his regression... you were talking about being partners and sharing the responsibility of making the world better... and then... and then...

Kim Hyunsung was actively suicidal near the end, being forced to watch Lee Kiyoung's funeral and thinking that he had mu*dered his best friend, his guild partner, and the only person he trusted with the secret of the regression. Massive amounts of mental trauma. While Lee Kiyoung was actually, comfortably sitting in another alternate dimensional space, watching his friend Kim Hyunsung going through some pretty tough emotional sh*t and feeling touched. Not realising that Lee Kiyoung had planned the whole thing from start to finish.

On one hand, he is an absolute tr*shbag. One the other hand, I am impressed that he won over the ML. Not even Light managed that.

very unique and a very good read only thing I've given 5 stars in spite of having clear flaws.

The major one is hayan the yandere, she acts borderline inhuman in her obsession with the main chracter. I don't mind this after the fact as there about 20 instory reasons for her behavior but aside from her back story most of them feel like justification when it would have been easier to just write hayan better

I didn't think I'd read this before, because it's a harem. But it turn out I can read it until 800+. What I can say is this novel getting better and better in each chapter plus more interesting to read. The MC is clever but his cleverness is something different. Like he's using dirty tricks in every his plans, but the plan is something you didn't think about it at all, I call that 'dirty intelligence'. In every chapter you will amazed abt the plan that his make.

If you dropped... more>> this before ch300+ You will miss the golden moment. There is already many golden moment until ch 200+ but if you continue it, you will find the golden moment more often, I mean the 'golden moment' is part that make you find it 'statisfying', 'interesting' and feel 'frustation'.

Oh!! Although in this novel there are many hillarious moments that make you laugh so hard but you will find parts that will make you cry, especially the way the author writes it's really beautiful!! And make the readers feeling the character's emotions! You will find some that part in the 1st timeline.

After reading this novel My standard for MC characters is high, bcs after reading it I'm having a hard time finding an MC that's the same standard as Kiyoung even with different character traits

And it's also hard to find a pure tr*sh, evil, humorous, and clever MC like kiyoung, it's so funny seeing his cursing 24/7 in every chapter😂 <<less
