This was such a light reading and so fun. Shen qingqiu my boy really gave me fun time by his inner cursing lol lol. As expected of mxtx truly satisfying!

My fav of all MXTX story. It's light and such a fun read. It's a meh compared with her other works and an okay compared to other transmigration novel. I think what makes this my fav is the characters and the dynamic between them.

Re-read another round.
I like how it injects a bit of comedy inside the storyline to make it less serious and it’s hilarious to see the inner thoughts to Shen Qingqiu.

Scum characters always have a back story; there’s always a reason for their growth to be like that.

And that’s why the author is one of my fav

Decent story. This type of thing never really suited my taste so it got me hooked for a while. Stopped reading because I'm more interested in the romance aspect (there's not much honestly, you can tell they love each other but I prefer if it was straightforward with I love you and kisses) and the plot started to uninterest me. Other than that it's pretty decent.

I especially liked the death scene as well. Adds a little bit of spice into the mix and the nice additional, "dead but not dead" thing is great as well. Love a nice heartbreak happy ending.

I don't know how to do the star rating thing but this gets a 4/5 from me. Not bad of a story but my attention span says no.

This is the first web novel I've ever read and finished through. Its rating is pretty high because I don't have anything to compare it with, so my views might be a little naive and seen with fresh eyes. Before I start, I 'd like to say kudos to the translators and editors. You've worked hard, although imperfect, it is still very good work done. Now that that's out of the way, I'll go on to the actual review.

The MC is very hilarious. Shen Qingqiu's (SQQ) internal monologue is very... more>> entertaining to read, and I never got bored with him. This is very good, since his POV is the only POV through the whole book. The worldbuilding is alright, which merely described a few things here and there. Aside from the Mountain Peak names and the names of other Peak Lords, one doesn't need to memorize plants or animals so this is a pleasant story for first timers. I am more likely to focus on the thing between SQQ and Luo Binghe's (LBH) romance, so I don't have much complaint over the world building.

Although I am very entertained, and I love this story primarily because I have a positive bias due to it being my first one, I actually have a lot of gripes. My gripes might number more than my sole praise of "I like the MC" but rest assured, I am merely infected with the parasite called "remembering the bad things more vividly over the good things." I like this story, I'm not lying! Look at my high rating of four stars.

Now, on to my gripes. They are all really petty and not really severe. I'm just being nitpicky, so if you read this spoiler-y bit, I implore you to not heed my opinions and not let it judge your decision to read SVSSS.

  • The romance between Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu was so sparse. Of course, I know Chinese gay webnovels need me to read between the lines, but I felt like Shen Qingqiu's feelings had close to nothing to read between. SQQ might love LBH, but I can't help the nagging feeling that SQQ doesn't actually love LBH like a lover, and more like a teacher indulging his student. Anyway, this isn't really a big gripe. I'll take whatever I can, I'll eat it up even if I complain.
  • Shang Qinghua x Mobei-Jun is severely lacking when it comes to canon moments. This is one of my most nitpicky gripes. I can't get enough of these two!!!! Mobei-Jun had been bullying Shang Qinghua for the majority of the time so I want to see them being lovey-dovey!! Agh!!!! I want to eat dog food of these two, even more than the main pairing!!!! *Cries*
  • This isn't a gripe, but I actually don't mind Luo Binghe turning out to be a yandere obsessed with Shen Qingqiu. Seeing how clingy he is during his white lotus years, and how he turned out in the original novel, I think it'd be more realistic that Yandere!Luo Binghe is canon. He's bound to have a few loose screws here and there.
  • For some reason, I forgot the rest of my gripes while typing this. If it's possible to add more in the future when I remember, then I shall add them. Lol.

I started reading with low expectations, as I didn't know what to expect from the summary, the plain cover and also being never have heard of the author.

I LOVED it.

Plot? Unpredictable. There were way too many instances that caught me off guard and added to the richness of the plot, and overall I just love the little world of Scumbag System!

Note: I don't usually like these wuxia-system plot novels as the technological part often feels out of place with the setting, but here it is a fundamental part... more>> of the story and I wouldn't have had in any other way. It's close to perfect!

Many, many thanks to author and Translators (HIGH QUALITY translations, peeps!) I didn't face any mental acrobats while reading action scenes or etc, and I just adore the writing overall-not too much detail, but still conducting vivid imagery of the world and the characters' personalities. Plus it was just too funny. Translators have also kindly left explanations for terms and the like. Also, from the start I was constantly holding in my laughter and squeals as I completed the novel in 2-3 days.

I'm half tempted to tag this as horror lmao, as the creatures introduced really makes one's skill crawl and ML definitely made me gasp and want to run from his Yandere tendencies. Ah, might want to tag as tragedy too due to how my heart bled when MC was accused of various crimes and was resigned to fate and ML's anger.

Characters? LOVABLE!

Seriously, I never really got the hang of master-disciple relationships, be it platonic or nawh but seriously, there are plenty of lovable, funny characters: case and point our HILARIOUS MC, who's back probably hurts from carrying the entire plot (not that the plot is bad but still, he really leaves an impression on you) and how cool he actually is as a character who was suddenly transmigrated. Naturally, he's a little dumbass sometimes in how he takes risks that could harm his life for the sake of others but it wasn't too annoying imo.

Personally, I'm not too big a fan of the ML simply because of my personal trope preference, , but he is definitely a very interesting person and I don't think any of his actions were unreasonable and is in line with his character. I really loved his child arc. Feel free to disagree with me tho, lmao.

Next, important point: GOOD. FEMALE. CHARACTERS. Gosh, I'm sure any avid fujoshi can agree with me that finding a reasonable female character in yaoi tales is like finding a needle in a haystack. In Scumbag System, I wouldn't say there was an ambundance of these good Fem charas, but there are a few who I had good feelings for.

Genre: Romance. Ehhh in this case I have to admit that I feel the romance had a sorta good buildup, but honestly it didn't have a prominent presence in the story. I don't really understand why MC would fall for ML, but I'm a simple minded person so I don't really care either lmao, the meagre (?) romance, action and plot kept me happily humoured to the end.

*There is snu-snu, but no comment. Not bad, not.. Good?

Even then, there are still many side stories which weren't lacking in quality IMO. They really added to the story and characters.

I personally loved the scenes with the MC meeting the original ML, as well as the scene where ML grieved for MC, and a specific side character's story.

It's been some time since I've read it so I might have forgotten some stuff but anyway:

This was my first 'transmigration' genre novel and I quite enjoyed it as I only read ancient wuxia/xianxia type of novels before.

Starting with Shen Qiao, who reads a st*pid harem novel, gets transmigrated into the main villain blah blah blah... Our MC's relationship with the ML at the beginning progresses steadily as SQQ wanted to grab to a 'golden tight' to not get killed in the future, but couldn't get too close to LBH... more>> at first because that would be OOC. However, soon they basically become a pair of a master and his favorite disciple. All cute and stuff but here comes the angst and the master turns his back on LBH after he revealed some secret traits, that shattered everything into pieces... Which is also totally not how it sounds like, but I didn't want to spoiler anything lmao

PROS:

    • Shen Qingqiu's (MC's) character. Literally. Without his 'wtf is going on' inner thoughts while at the same time acting as a mighty peak leader I would've probably dropped this lmao
    • I liked how all the sect leaders were acting like a huge family, supporting and caring for each other.
    • Also, I enjoyed the novel's humor, the comedy part was well-written.
    • I personally love MXTX, and as it was her first novel I may be a lil biased hehe
    • papapa scenes included hehe
I really wanted to write more but I literally can't think of anything memorable that would fit here, so let's move on.

CONS:

    • Such a pity, but basically Luo Binghe's (ML's) character. He was so adorable as a kid, but later he became really clingy, totally yandere, and possessive in an unhealthy way. It kind of gave off a vibe of mental illness and if I'm not wrong he literally did say that 'he's gone crazy' soo idk mixed feelings...
    • LBH's dad and the Holy Mausoleum plot in the novel are kinda annoying and weird.
Wanted to write more here but every con I can think of is somehow related to Binghe so eheheh...

Overall, a nice story, however, as I re-read it later there were quite several things that bothered me. Most of the time comedic, but halfway through there is some angst. There is also some original SQQ's backstory, which will be revealed in the flashbacks, and a side couple that has some chapters in the extras. <<less

I really liked this novel. It is obvious it's an early novel of MXTX, but even then it's stuff a fun read. I've already re-read it a few times now.

It always made me laugh that the ML is such a cry-baby, such a difference to what his original story counterpart was supposed to be.

It's also nice because it doesn't just focus on the MC and ML and their relationship, it has a plot that is still going on that is also being taken care of. And the side characters introduced had their own story going one that is also delved into. If you haven't read it, and have read MXTX's other work, I recommend this as well. It's still good even if it's written differently then MDZS and HOB

I think this was my first bl transmigration novel with male yandere, which I completed. Really nice story and the MC is s*upidely dense, but this makes him kinda cute too. My rating is more like a 4.6.

So I have read this story a long while ago and the review is coming a bit late after perhaps reading a bit too many fanfics so my review might be a bit biased... But hey, regardless of my original thoughts, this story has inspired so many to write wonderful works that expand and improved on in the fandom. 8/10 Would go down this road again!

I actually created an account just because I want to write a review on this novel.

I almost didn't read this because of the reviews of those who gave a low rating on this book. Fortunately, my friend finished reading this book so I also took a shot.

It isn't bad, and I was surprised when I was reading. I actually kinda liked it even if I'm more of a modern setting reader and I'm not very familiar with cultivation novels but I surprisingly liked this. One's judgement on whether the book... more>> is worth to read or not depends on one's self. Don't mind the reviews and just give this novel a shot and see for yourself if it's worth your time.

The plot is simple and straight forward, and while reading, you can't blame MXTX for the wtf happenings because the book where Shen Qingqiu transmigrated to is a creation of one of SVSSS characters.

The first half is satisfying to read and the pacing is just right, but the second half wasn't as satisfying as the first part. In the second half, some scenes that would require more words and descriptions are compressed into a single chapter, but the other scenes that didn't necessarily need a super detailed explanation occupied about 4-5 chapters. The scenes of the second half are sometimes rushed and sometimes draggy. I feel like I ran 5 kilometers after reading the rushed scenes.

For me, it was a good read and can also be my favorite. The characters all had their personality and presence. It didn't seem like they're just there for display. Basically, this novel is not centered on the life of the main character and the male lead.

One of my favorite characters is Liu Mingyan. SHE'S SO COOL! If only she was written with more details and appeared on many scenes. I really like her character and personality.

I've also finished watching the donghua adaptation after I finished reading the main text and it's worth to watch. Still exciting even if I already have an idea on what will happen next. Most of the dialogues are not changed and that makes me so happy~ I'm waiting for the next season. <<less

Eh, this book was a bit disappointing. I did find it humorous and there many moments where it was entertaining nonetheless, but the relationship between the MC and ML was lacking. It seemed a bit one-sided. If you're looking for a good romance novel, you might find their love a bit "shallow" development-wise. (Although, I did LOVE the funny dynamic between the MC and one other character that appears later in the book).

I can't help but compare it to 2HA, which also has a similar shizun-disciple hate-love relationship. The love... more>> is just not there. At least not from the MC, I can't help but think that this is one-sided lol. <<less

I'm a big fan of MXTX!

And this is one of the best danmei's I've ever read, as expected. One of the few books where the side characters actually have a personality. I loved all of them and I wished there was a better ending for the demon snake...

Plus, the extras were quite hot haha I'm sure the ML will gradually become better in bed.

I don't read BL novels but I wanted to give this a try and OH MY GAWD!

the ML yall is the best narrator out there LMAO his comments are sooo relatable and hilarious, I like when the narrator is female cuz it makes me relate to the situation more and enjoy the novel but this ML is just AIYAAA ahem anyways, the plot.

the plot is not something extra but the characters and the progression of the story make it so damn interesting. And yes the relationship of the main couple... more>> is slow and that's what makes it special, for a novel that has super smutty scenes this is a rare jewel.

anyways whether you like BL or not I totally recommend this novel
